Untrieds: BITE Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss

Funny, when I started this series on Untrieds, I thought it would mostly be nail polishes but it looks like I’ve got a lot of other things I need to try out too!

I bought this BITE Beauty Lush Lip Trio during Black Friday, for $12.  Ever since Black Friday started being a bigger event here in Canada, I’ve engaged in risky shopping behaviour on Black Friday mornings.  (Side note, in Canada, our Thanksgiving occurs much earlier than in the US, for example, in 2014 it was on October 13th.  So Black Friday happens on a random Friday in late November – to us it has no associations with turkey, and we don’t have the day off – it’s just a manufactured day for shopping).

Back to this BITE Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss – BITE Beauty is a Canadian brand solely focused on producing high quality food-grade lip products without the use of parabens, sulfates or phthalates.  The full size lip gloss is $25 each, available exclusively at Sephora. This kit contains 3 shades: Strawberry, Currant and Rambutan –  1.7ml each (versus the full sized of 3.27g)  The clean lines of the tubes with its matte rubberized cap look very sleek.

Here are the shade descriptions from Sephora:
Strawberry – sheer carnation pink
Currant – sheer plum
Rambutan – peachy nude

L to R: Strawberry, Currant, Rambutan | doe-foot applicator is slightly tapered for a more controlled application.

They’re all very wearable shades, without any shimmer, which I prefer.  The consistency is a thick cream with a slight tackiness.  It has a medium amount of pigmentation – not translucent but not opaque like a liquid lipstick either. The shades in this set don’t all have the same level of opacity – Strawberry is the most opaque while Currant is the most sheer.  It is quite moisturizing and longwearing for a lip gloss. It’s not super shiny like a mirrored surface but gives a nice glaze to the lips.  Here’s an illustrated representation of what the lip glosses look like on my lips:

L to R: my natural lip colour [control], Strawberry, Currant, Rambutan
My favourite colour out of the trio is the sheerest one: Currant, as it is a MLBB (My Lips But Better) shade but provides a hint more depth to my lips.  I also like Rambutan to nude out my lips slightly – it applies smoothly and looks sophisticated against a darker eye look.

The one thing that I’m not a big fan of, is the scent of this lip gloss – I’m pretty sure it’s just the natural fruit oils mixed together but the product smells like a stale fruit salad. The product ingredients are noted online as including a fruit cocktail of oils: strawberry, blackcurrant, raspberry, coconut, mango, apricot, and avocado oils that are supposed to help fight free radicals that can cause aging of the lip line. It’s unfortunate that the smell of this product really overshadows its performance – but an unsavoury smell is detrimental to a lip product since the lips are situated right below the nose!  I wore these for a week straight to test them out and I dreaded applying them due to the smell. It’s a deal breaker for me.

    1. I much prefer BITE’s lipsticks – they’re very pigmented and moisturizing! What did you buy during Black Friday? The thought of NOT participating in this year’s Black Friday is already making me sad… but I must stay strong. No Buy 2015!

      1. I have only tried the VIB Rouge Bite Beauty lipstick and it really suits my skintone. It’s a shade or two darker than a true red.

Last year, I bought a Tarte “Magic” Set, Purity by Philosophy, and Clean rollerball trio. OMG you’re on a No Buy too? We are in this together girl. Stay Strong! I’m doing it until Dec 2015. I can’t handle the whole year or I’ll miss the huge Sephora sale. I’m just keeping it real here!

            1. Just factual things like How long is your No Buy? Why did you decide to go on a No Buy? What is the biggest challenge for you to adhere to your No Buy. Stuff like that. 🙂

  1. Ooh, they’re all pretty! I think Current appeals to me the most. I have some lip crayon things from Bite Beauty, and I love them, but I haven’t tried any of their glosses.
