eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm collection

Happy Easter!
Today I thought I would share with you my eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm collection, since they look like little Easter eggs!

EOS1
Don’t they?

I own 16 of the eos spheres, listed here roughly in the order of my preference:
1) Honeysuckle Honeydew (light turquoise)
2) Sweet Mint (light green)
3) Coconut Cream (light pink swirl)
4) Watermelon Wonderland (red)
5) St. Bart’s Sunrise / Pink Grapefruit (coral pink)
6) Blueberry Potion (blue)
7) Sweet Vanilla Nonsense (ivory)
8) Passion Fruit (purple)
9) Pomegranate Raspberry (plum)
10) Barbados Heat / Wildberry (berry)
11) Summer Fruit (deep pink)
12) Indian Summer / Orange Blossom (dark orange)
13) Vanilla Mint (light blue swirl)
14) Aloha Hawaii / Strawberry Kiwi (crimson)
15) Lemon Drop (yellow)
16) Medicated Tangerine (orange)

Yes, I have a lot of these, but at least I’m not like this girl with 176 of them.

Not shown is the Strawberry Sorbet (solid light pink) since it is my least favourite flavour. I find the scent very artificial and unappealing, so I don’t keep it around.  It’s such a bummer that eos includes Strawberry Sorbet in just about every special multi-packs – so I just avoid buying them.

EOS3
L to R: Blueberry Potion, Watermelon Wonderland, Sweet Vanilla Nonsense – from the Alice in Wonderland set. Notice the Micky Mouse outline imprinted – between the scents and design, it’s my favourite eos set ever!

eos lip spheres cost approx $4 and are now available at most drugstores and mass merchants including Walmart and Loblaws / Superstores.  I have not picked up the Blueberry Acai or the new Fresh Watermelon flavours since I already owned the Blueberry Potion and Watermelon Wonderland from the Alice in Wonderland collection, I never felt they were different enough to warrant having both versions.

Rachel Roy holiday trio with 3 limited edition flavours: Aloha Hawaii (Strawberry Kiwi), St. Bart’s Sunrise (Pink Grapefruit) and Indian Summer (Orange Blossom).  My favourite of the bunch is the pink grapefruit.

Rachel Roy limited edition single in Barbados Heat (Wildberry) – all of Rachel Roy’s lip spheres have an etched wing design around the eos logo.

A bit more information about the eos lip spheres:

  • Launched in 2009
  • Key ingredients: olive oil, beeswax, coconut oil, jojoba oil, shea butter
  • Petrolatum & paraben free
  • Not tested on animals

Here’s a good Racked article discussing the allure of eos lip spheres.

The newest addition to my collection – Medicated Orange – a friend bought it for me as a surprise.  Too bad it tastes like chemicals. (click to enlarge for ingredient list)

In terms of hydration, I would not say eos is the best – they are a bit waxy and not very emollient.  What I do like is using them as a base for other lip products, since they apply fairly matte and don’t create too slick of a surface for other products to adhere to my lips.  I use an eos lip sphere every single morning as part of my makeup routine – I do not carry one in my purse as I find them too bulky.  I want to somehow fashion a dispenser system where a new flavour is dispensed daily from the bottom, and then I put the most recently used one back at the top so I can rotate all the flavours I own, like this:

Visibly Soft is the newest addition to the lip spheres family, touted as providing softer lips. I would say that it’s slightly more emollient compared to the regular lip spheres.  I’m just happy that eos finally launched a Coconut flavour! But why another vanilla / mint flavour? They could have gone with marshmallow for the other flavour, it would have gone well with the “soft” theme.

L to R: Coconut cream, Vanilla Mint

At the time of this post, I’m actually down to only 14 eos lip spheres since my oldest and most favourite flavours, Honeysuckle Honeydew and Sweet Mint, have gone bad and I had to throw them out.  This will hopefully teach me to stop accumulating so many lip products – I won’t be buying any more eos lip balms until I’ve used up more of my remaining stash.

L to R: Honeysuckle Honeydew (4+ years old – tossed out) vs Medicated Tangerine (less than a month old)

eos product development team, if you’re reading this, here are ideas for new flavours you need to release:
• Grape
• Green Apple
• Pear
• Peach
• Banana

You’re welcome. 😉

Do you own any eos lip balms?  What’s your favourite flavour?

  1. I love your dispenser invention! Pitch it to EOS! I’m not a fan on EOS. It’s not moisturizing enough for me. I tried to love it and just don’t. I do think they are adorable. I can see it being a hassle to easily throw it in your purse. The upside is that you’ll find it really fast, as it takes up valuable room!

    1. I hear ya, I was initially let down by how not emollient they are but I’ve grown to appreciate them as lip bases. And I love collecting them! I’m gonna make bank pitching my dispenser idea to eos, lol!

  2. I have never bought one of these. The sphere is just…IDGI. Haha, but I like your comment about using it as a lipstick base. Maybe I will try one…lemon sounds good. I marveled at your 16-count stash, then I couldn’t process the YT link at all! Holy wow!

    1. The spheres are totally gimmicky! If anything, concave shape would be better suited for the lips. Good on eos for creating a niche! FYI unfortunately the lemon flavour isn’t available in Canada yet, I got it when I went to Chicago.

  3. Only 14 haha! How do you manage to finish them when they get below where your lip can easily reach? I bought one of these in the strawberry flavor once and I didn’t like the taste so I tossed it. It wasn’t a very good first impression of Eos for me :/

    1. Oh I’m so sorry your one and only experience with eos was strawberry, it’s the worst flavour IMO. I threw that one out too. Give honeysuckle honeydew a try, it’s infinitely better!
I’ve never completely finished one of the spheres but I’ve been people dig out the product but there’s really not a lot below the base.

      1. I’ll have to look for honeysuckle honeydew next time I’m out. Can never have too many lip balms! But I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought strawberry was gross. Yuck.

  4. All right, found another fan of EOS! We’re pretty much matched with our collection, although I also have the Fresh Watermelon and Blueberry Acai. I’m currently using Strawberry sorbet since I have 2 of it. One of them came with the Passion Fruit when they were packaged together as a set. My favorite flavors are Sweet Mint and Summer Fruit. Green apple would be awesome for a future flavor! I’d actually want them to put out either a mango or strawberry banana one. You can check out my post about EOS here if you’d like. https://lehea1212.wordpress.com/2015/03/11/eos-obsessed/

      1. In response to your request, Watermelon Wonderland and Fresh Watermelon are pretty much one in the same, but Blueberry Acai has a slightly stronger scent/flavor compared to Blueberry Potion. Hope that helps!

  5. Did you ever make an EOS dispenser system? That’s such a cute idea! I’d never bring one of these in my purse; I agree that it’s bulky and not very practical. I much prefer the simple tubes like the Chapstick ones!

    1. Haha nope, I never did make the dispenser system! XD
Me too, I much prefer slim tubes for my purse. I did see a guy the other day on the subway whip an EOS out of his backpack. It was cute. 🙂
