I just finished up another ill-gotten bar of hotel soap (L’Occitane Shea Butter soap in Milk, my fav) and decided to open up a full sized soap next. The Yves Rocher Tradition de Hammam Oriental Soap with Argan and Olive Oil was something I bought on a whim, in order to qualify for free shipping on an online order.
It’s listed as $17 for a 5.3 oz. / 150 g bar, but I know that I paid less than half that price when I bought mine. That’s the thing to always keep in mind with Yves Rocher (YR): never ever pay full price for anything from there. They constantly have sales and all the products go on sale in rotation.
This soap is not your average bar of soap, it’s quite luxurious and comes in a fancy metallic bronze coloured box, with the soap itself wrapped in frosted cellophane.
Upon opening the wrapper, the beauty of the soap itself is revealed:
It almost looks good enough to eat!
The bar is HUGE! What’s weird is that it lathers up in reddish brown suds, and when it rinses, it makes the water a little bit reddish brown too.
The main reason why I bought this soap was because I had tried the Oriental Shower Oil from the same range (it was a gwp), and I loved the smell of it (I’m not usually an “Oriental” fragrance fan, but this one didn’t have a deep musky base note – it was actually a soft nutty smell). Unfortunately, the soap doesn’t have the same fragrance – it smells mostly of olive oil to me. Which isn’t necessary a bad thing, I just expected it to match the shower oil. That was the only letdown really.
Pros:
• Leaves skin soft
• Rinses clean without oily residue
• Beautifully packaged and designed
• No animal ingredients
• Made in France
Cons:
• Fragrance doesn’t match the rest of the collection
• Expensive at regular price of $17

I call it my “happy memory” soap. Did it occur to you when you smell a certain perfume from your collection or something fragrant and it automatically flashes some significant memory? But actually, I’m a sucker for pleasant smelling soaps. That’s why I love passing by Lush.

Yes! Scents are closely linked to memory. Whenever I smell a Clinique Happy, I always remember being in high school, lol!

I’ve wanted to try this forever! Will see if I can pick it up in my next YR order. It almost looks too pretty to use.
I’ve liked some of the Pacifica soaps I’ve tried, but I’m very flaky when it comes to soaps. I try new brands all the time.

The pretty design has all worn away – it’s quite sad. But it is a nice soap regardless.
I’ve never tried the Pacifica soaps – they smell so tropical. I prefer milky soft scents for soaps, don’t know why.

I’m kind of glad it doesn’t smell like chocolate, I’d be tempted to lick it. I’ve been known to lick fruity shampoos in my past as a child… thinking they’d taste like fruit, but alas no. They tasted salty.

This is great! I’ve seen this so many times! I always pick it up and smell it when i’m at the shop lol but haven’t actually bought it! It looks really pretty but i’m more of a liquid soap fan, unless the bar soap really lathers up well. At the moment I’m loving the Nivea pure fresh shower gel!

I got a sample of a Nivea body wash in the mail just the other day. I have to try it! I actually use a mixture of gel and bar soap – call me weird, but I don’t like using liquid soap for my nether regions or my arm pits… so I use the bar soap and lather up using that just for that purpose. Of course there are days I just use the bar soap only all over my body too. 🙂

Haha when I first saw the cover photo I really thought it was chocolate! I used to love Honey I Washed the Kids from Lush, but now I just use Dove.
