The Eye Shadow Tag

Immediately after I did The Lipstick Tag, I thought – hey, why isn’t there an Eye Shadow Tag?  I’m not really a lipstick girl, but I love me some eye shadows!  I’ve seen a Perfect Palette Tag on YouTube but I’m not really a palette gal either, so I decided to make some modifications to The Lipstick Tag and came up with The Eye Shadow Tag! 😀

The Rules

1. How many eye shadows do you own?
A lot (600+), you can check out my stash here. 😉

2. What was your first ever eye shadow?
May not have been my very first, but one that I started wearing with regularity when I first starting wearing eye shadows were the Revlon Wet/Dry shadows (I was especially obsessed with the single in “Lavendare”, a greyed mauve shade). They were the best eye shadows – pigmented, blendable, longwearing, affordable. Sadly, they’re discontinued.

3. What is your most worn eye shadow?
MAC Wedge, as a transition blending colour.  Coming in close in 2nd and 3rd most used are Satin Taupe, and Patina – both also MAC.  I talk about these in my Top 10 MAC eye shadows post.

4. What is your favorite brand for eye shadows?
I supposed it’s MAC since it’s the most prominent brand in my collection.  But I enjoy a wide range of brands as evident in my stash – I like variety!

5. What is your favorite finish?
Veluxe Pearl – it’s a MAC formula that has a very refined shimmer.

6. What is the last eye shadow you bought?
Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Shimmer Palette which I acquired in January when Target Canada was closing. I did a review on this, where you can see that I dropped the palette so a few of the shades are now shattered. 😥

7. How many eye products do you currently have in your bag?
I don’t carry around eye shadow with me on a daily basis, but I do tote around a pencil eyeliner in case I need a touch up.  In all the years that I’ve carried an eyeliner in my purse, I’ve only ever touched up my eyeliner maybe once or twice.  Currently I have Prestige Waterproof Pencil in Suede in the makeup bag in my purse.

8. What eye shadows do you use to rock a smokey eye?
Guerlain Écrin 4 Couleurs in Les Fumés is a no brainer.  It’s my go-to for a sophisticated smokey eye.

9. How do you store your eye shadows?
I have acrylic drawers that I keep my singles in.

10. What eye products are you currently lusting over?
I have many eye shadow lemmings. A new lust is the Burberry Wet and Dry Glow Eye Shadow in Nude.  So dreamy:

    1. For ages I only had a handful of eye shadows (those Revlons) but it quickly grew once I discovered MAC and the MakeUpAlley forum! They fuelled a lot of my purchases! 😆

  3. I LOVED those Revlon shadows (Coffee Bean quad!). I was really disappointed when they d/c’ed them and replaced them with the current ones, which have not gotten great reviews. I never had the one you posted, but that looks gorgeous. I also really liked the old L’Oreal e/s, which they also d/c’ed. Of course.

    I want me some Guerlain quads….but have so much still untried. :p

    1. I depotted all of my Revlon wet / dry shadows and they now live in these Ardene $1 palettes:

      And yes I have the Coffee Bean quad mixed in there somewhere!
      Truth be told, I’m not WOW’d by the Guerlain quads in terms of pigmentation – they’re more sheer in a similar sense as Japanese eye shadows, BUT, their colours and finishes are very refined. I wouldn’t rush to get one.
      Which old L’Oreal e/s? Aside from the Infallibles, I haven’t ventured much into L’Oreals.

      1. Hmm, I’ve heard that about the Guerlains, which is partly why I haven’t gotten one yet. They look sooooo pretty, though.

        ARDENE has palettes? *makes note*

        Back in the day, I had like one eyeshadow. (Not really, but YKWIM!) I wore L’Oreal Satin Taupe eyeshadow duo every day. Very old…pre-Wear Infinite and the ugly wavy palettes they have now. The taupe in that duo was lovely. I think I still have it; must go dig it up with the Revlon stuff.

        It was this but in different packaging and formula:

        I have not tried any of the new formulas, though.

        1. Ardene sells everything now! Clothes, makeup, it’s nuts. Same with Claires. I’ve bought some Claires nail polishes before and they’re decent!
          Oh wow, that L’Oreal duo looks amazing! That taupe looks like it would be perfect for a one shadow eye look.
          I swatched a few of the new ones when they put out testers and they feel very dry and unpigmented to me. Oh I forgot about the L’Oreal HIP line – THOSE were really good! I got a couple of those I think (Of course, discontinued!). They also did a limited edition line called “Color Appeal” which I liked – pigmented and buttery finish:

          But again, at the time I was trying to have some discipline so I did not buy any. Shoulda woulda coulda…

  5. OMG I was so excited when I read this title that I scrolled down to see if you tagged me before I even read your answers!!! I’m so excited! I just finished doing it and I’m going to post it tomorrow morning!!! Awe, I’m so sorry about your Targets 😦 I’ve always wanted to travel to Canada but I don’t think I could live there without my beloved Target!!!

      1. I know 😦 I have a Walmart that is 10 minutes closer to my house than Target but I still go out of my way to get to Target. It’s a shame 😦 They must have lost some major money building there and then leaving so fast though!!!

    1. If I’m honest, I only use maaaaybe about 10% of my collection. I’m trying to be better at rotating the products so I can use all the pretties! And, I will eventually need to make the tough decision to purge / let go of some of the ones I never use!

    1. It’s fun / scary to try to count up how many items you have! Sometimes I think, well, it’s not THAT bad but once I step back to really think, it’s like OMG yes, that’s a LOT, esp when my friends who aren’t that into makeup hears about it! 😆

      1. Yeah I actually need to go through my makeup and get rid of some things that are old or that I don’t really use. I hate the thought of getting rid of anything though lol.
