July beauty favourites and 200 Days of No-Buy

I’ve never done a monthly favourites because I fear that my picks will become too repetitive month after month, since my favourites don’t change drastically.  Maybe it won’t be a monthly affair but let’s see how it goes. Before I get to my July favourites, I just want to acknowledge that today is my 200 day of No-Buy (aside from my birthday purchases, which is completely pardoned in No-Buy-land) – yay:
nobuyachievement200days
Onto the July favourites:
favourites201507_2

Consonant Skincare The Perfect Sunscreen SPF 30 – I brought this along on my road trip and as its name implies, it really is the perfect sunscreen. It provided protection while creating a nice canvas for my concealer and BB Cream and didn’t leave a white cast. I did a review on this here.
favourites201507_3
Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-in-One BB Cream in Light / Medium – overall, I much prefer Asian BB Creams but if pushed to recommend a North American one, this would be my pick. This is the lightest shade and it’s slightly too dark for me in the wintertime so it’s perfect as a summer base. It provides a light amount of coverage, but not so sheer that it’s invisible.  It also smells like iced tea, and I am a sucker for anything that smells like tea.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Buff 340 – I also brought this on vacation and it provided just the right amount of colour correction and highlighting for laid back relaxed days.

favourites201507_4
Lancaster Infinite Bronze Illuminating Compact Powder in Kaleidoscope – sorry to include an item that’s discontinued but I really love this bronzer (I have a back up!) so I couldn’t not include it.  It’s a massive compact with multi-coloured bronzers and neutralizers to make the skin glow. The compact has a whopping 20g of product so I’m not sure when / if I’ll ever open my back up.

Nars Blush in Luster – described as a golden apricot shade, it’s the perfect compliment to a bronzed skin look.  It looks unassuming the pan, but it provides the ideal amount of pigment and sheen to the cheeks.
favourites201507_5
Shiseido Sun Protection Compact Foundation SPF35 in SP30 – I brought this on my trip as well and have been wearing it the whole month of July.  It provides light coverage and added sun protection.

MAC 137 Long Blending Brush – I’m SO glad I bought this! It’s fantastic for all the pops of bright blushes I’ve been wearing.  And, I believe this brush is now permanent!  This is totally back up worthy. 😉

favourites201507_6
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Ro(Cocoa) #48 – a shimmery golden brown that I like to wear on my lower lash line.  It’s a bronzey shade without any orange which can sometimes make me look sickly.  The silky gel pencil formula is one of the most budge-proof ones I’ve tried.  I want more shades of this formula.

favourites201507_7
Lto R: Marc Jacobs Gel Crayon in Ro(Cocoa), L’Oreal Infallible Amber Rush, Essie Coral Reef

L’Oreal Color Infallible loose eye shadow in #892 Amber Rush – a coppery shade that makes an easy one shade eye shadow look, and is best applied with fingers (patting onto the lids) and it lasts a long time on the lids, so it’s a fantastic choice for summer.

Essie nail polish in Coral Reef – on Essie’s site this is described as “a hot pink explosion to make heads turn” but I disagree, this isn’t just a hot pink colour, it’s more of a coral shade (as per the name, duh) with equal parts orange and bright pink.  It’s the quintessential summer colour!

favourites201507_8
Bath and Body Works Waikiki Beach Coconut Aloe Gel Lotion – I love the fragrance of the whole line and this aloe gel lotion is so refreshing for the summertime. It also packs a lot of hydration – my skin feels really soft after using this.  It’s a similar concept to the Body Shop Body Sorbets but I feel the BBW ones are more hydrating.  I’ve been using this daily since I got it, you’ll likely be seeing this in my next Trash Stash!

Clarins Pure & Radiant Mask with Pink Clay – this has been a long time love of mine and it’s come in handy recently with the heat wave we’ve had – heat really wrecks havoc with my skin, causing heat rash and tiny little bumps on the skin surface. What I like about this clay mask is that it’s not overly stripping, yet it does help to clarify the skin.

favourites201507_9
L to R: BBW Waikiki Beach Coconut, Clarins Pure & Radiant Mask, Benzagel Spot On

Benzagel Spot On 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide – I was plagued by hormonal break-outs on my chin this month (more so than previous months, I think the heat was a contributing factor) so I had to resort to this and it worked like a charm. I do have to apply this sparingly or else it causes red irritated patches on my skin.

Let me know if you want me to do a more thorough review of any of my favourites.  Have you tried any of them? What have you been enjoying lately?

      1. For some reason I always thought they were loose shadows, which I am a bit leery of (no real reason, I’m just being weird) but it turns out these are kind of in between pressed and loose? That color is a beaut. I might have to try it!

Aaaaaagh and that Essie is on my wishlist!

    1. Not for me, it’s really 200 days because I had to restart my No-Buy in mid January because I broke it after 2 weeks into the new year! ><
If you get a chance, go try out the BBW aloe gel – they're fantastic!

  4. The BBW Waikiki line is absolutely delicious! And I can’t believe you are on 200 days of No-Buy. Mad respect, lol. I’d never have the willpower – which is so sad. I’m sure I could probably do it if I put my mind to it. 🙂

    1. I bought pretty much the whole line of BBW Waikiki collection! I layer all the way from shower gel to body splash and perfume! I love it so much. 😀
No-Buy was mostly difficult in the beginning – January has so many sales. I know it’ll become challenging again come Holiday time too… all those gift sets! 😮

  7. Congrats on your 200! 🙂
I’m ticking on my wish list the things to buy on my birthday. 🙂 I hope there’s a MJ highliner available somewhere.
I’m intrigued with Garnier’s BB Cream, to think that it smells ice tea. But then again, it isn’t available here. 😦 Same goes with the BBW Waikiki Beach. I’ve scoured the mall last week for this but to no avail.

    1. I think the BBW Waikiki is gone now, it was part of their summer collection and the stores are all now about FALL!
Too bad the Garnier BB isn’t there – I thought Garnier was a global brand? They also offer an oily skin version which I heard is good too. I hope you find your wish list items!

      1. Tough luck! I was about to ask my aunt there. 😦
Garnier products are also available here but on a specified items. I was wondering why, WHY they didn’t carry the BB and I was hoping for the miscellar also.

  8. Wow, that’s a lot of favourites! I always have the same fear as I tend to stick with the same products once they come to be my favourites 🙂 Also, big congratulations on 200 days of No-Buy!!!! Mac blending brush was something I’ve been eyeing, so this is just pushing me onto another shopping spree haha. I would love to hear more on Benzagel Spot On! And Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon looks so so pretty, I’m so jealous, I’m adding it to my wishlist. 🙂

  9. Wow that nail polish color is sooooooo pretty! I’ve been desperate to find a pretty candied apple color like that! As for that Marc Jacobs liner, I’ll have to try one. I see a lot of people use it in their inner rim and now I get why!

  10. Wait you haven’t bought anything in 200 days!? HOW have you done that (I’m 90% sure you’re a superhuman right now), huge congratulations! Can’t wait to have a bigger delve through your blog x

  11. I’m really impressed by the 200 days of no-buys! Congrats! I feel it would be difficult for me because of the season’s collections every 3 months where there is always something pretty :p The Essie polish looks amazing! 🙂

    1. The cosmetics brands know what they’re doing – constantly releasing new collections to get us to buy something “new”… ah, I’m worried about all the beautiful Fall / Holiday collections that will be releasing soon! I have to brace myself.
