I write this post a bit tongue-in-cheek because who the heck has a stash of blotting papers? ME, that’s who:
I love picking up random blotting papers here and then and then forgetting about all the ones I’ve already got, and then buying more. I mean, they don’t expire, so why not?
The plastic film type of blotting papers are my least favourite – I find they remove too much oil / sebum from my skin, which leaves my face looking really dehydrated. I only have 2 of this type:
The Gatsby one is essentially a black film version of the Clean & Clear – when it removes oil, the film turns a darker black and translucent.
My favourite blotting papers are from Mary Kay and Shiseido – both are the linen paper type and remove just the right amount of oil but doesn’t over strip my skin:
Mary Kay papers are really large in size, so there’s no need to use more than one piece at a time for my whole face:
This one in the black pouch is pretty sucky, it’s from Rexall’s own label, Kit, and it honestly feels like tissue paper and works just about the same:
The Lise Watier blotting paper is such a neat concept:
The blotting papers reside at the top layer of the compact in a separate compartment, so you blot first, then you can powder your face!
The BEST packaging award goes to the Korean brand Too Cool for School:
First, I love the dinosaur illustration. Then there’s a sponge inside which has a light adhesive on it, which picks up a sheet of the blotting paper, and you blot your face using the sponge applicator:
And of course I can’t leave out Anna Sui:

Did you ever try the Burt’s Bees version? I think it’s discontinued now but I think I have an unused pack kicking around somewhere.
I think this was my first makeup item. I remember in junior high having blotting paper with powder built-in gifted from a friend. Was it crabtree & evelyn? I just remember vintage ladies on the cover of the pkg.

Oh yeah I’ve totally used the Palladio ones but I don’t love the blotting papers with the powder on them. Body Shop ones have the powder on them too.
Didn’t even know Burts Bees have blotting paper – interesting!
My first makeup item was an Avon light frosty pink lipgloss, it was nasty yet magical. 😀

I don’t use blotting paper. I’m kind of dry as it is, and usually if I get oily, it’s because I’ve been outside all day, and everyone else is oily, too…and yeah I don’t care 😀 Or I just use a tissue. I probably should care, though! :O

Eep! Although I think it’s funny that I balk at a $26 blotting paper compact, but am OK spending that much on one nail polish. Priorities!

Hahaha SO true. I do really wonder about the psychology of how pricing works. 😛 I hate paying big moolah for jeans but I’ve paid way more for a makeup brush – why?

If we’re being scientific, a makeup brush will last a lot longer than a pair of jeans, and it won’t go out of style, either 😀 RIGHT?

I used to use blotting sheets a lot more than I do now, I think my skin isn’t as oily as it used to be OR I’m more tolerant of a dewy look now (I used to be MATTE skin obsessed). Oily is totally fine if everyone else is too. 😛

They’re great because you’re just removing excess oil and not adding any product onto your skin. It doesn’t disturb makeup so you don’t even really need a mirror while blotting. I often don’t even need to powder after I blot.

Clean & Clear and Boscia (green package) are what I currently have. I LOVED the Shiseido ones.

This might not be the right time to admit I have never used a blotting paper in my life… they just don’t seem to have made it here, as you can’t get them anywhere.
Love the korean dinosaur one though, that would go on my list just for the packaging!

It’s the first time I read a post about blotting papers: good theme! I never used any but I can’t remember seeing them in store. I might have a look just to know if it’s easily available in Belgium :p

No, I haven’t delved into P&J but I really cannot wait because they’ve just started carrying the brand at select stores here! I looooove the packaging of their lipsticks – cats! 😛 And I bet the packaging for their blotting paper is just as awesome.

I’ve used ones from Boscia, Clean & Clear and NYX, with Boscia being my favorite. I saw that beauty blender has blotting sponges but I’m not sure how I feel about that. Kinda like the Makeup Eraser towel, it just seems a little icky to me.

Ooh yeah I don’t want to reuse something that removed oil and grime off my face! Unless I washed it every time I used it. Similar concept to cloth handkerchiefs!
Yes Boscia is quite nice – the only thing I don’t love about them is how small each sheet is.

I love blotting papers! I am a big fan of NYX’s and The Body Shops Tea tree oil papers. They really absorb the oils on the skin and keep you break out free from the tea tree, and they are pretty budget friendly $5-$10. Thanks for sharing!

I haven’t tried the NYX but now that you and Bree both mention it, I’ll have to seek them out! I did try the Body Shop years ago and I recalled they had some sort of powder on them? I don’t really like those ones – I find they can make me look powdery / cakey. Maybe they changed them now.

Yes! Check them out if you can they are great! Oh really?! I only bought the tea tree ones from the body shop because they didn’t have the powder in them. I know all of there other ones do and I hate that chalky feeling on my fingers 😖 lol. Let me know what you think when you get a hold of either of them ☺️

Loved this post!! I was recommended the Gatsby one by one of my Taiwanese students, the version that comes with blotting powder on top of the paper. It’s a great double product to have around when it’s humid and I need a quick touch up!

Ah ok, I do remember this post now. 🙂 I have Sephora’s blotting papers but they’re kind meh. A while back I used to use blotting tissues from The Body Shop, they don’t carry the ones I liked anymore. Boo!
