Brands I want to try more of

I saw this topic on Styled by Lauren so I wanted to do my own list too.  Since so many of you are listing your Sephora VIB sale shopping lists, I’ll kind of join in with this post even though I won’t be partaking in the VIB sale this time around (*sob*).  Next year I’ll be able to indulge in getting these items from brands I want to try more of:

Charlotte Tilbury
Brands_Charlotte_Tilbury
The obvious choice.  Since this brand’s launch (and debut in Canada in June this year), it’s been a hot brand in the makeup world.  I got my grubby little hands on a lipstick via a gift card for my birthday, and I’m itching to try more from the line, namely the Colour Chameleon eye shadow pencil in Dark Pearl, an eye shadow quad, and possibly a blusher.

Surratt Beauty
Brands_Surratt
This brand launched at Sephora this year and I’ve been anxious to try something from it.  The first thing I have to get my paws on is their Relevée Lash Curler.  I’ve perused the displays and it appears that most of the products are made in Japan – the line does have a Japanese aesthetic to it.  I want to try their Artistique Blushes and Eyeshadows – which all fit into custom palettes, I’m a sucker for custom palettes!

Nars
Brands_Nars
I do have a few Nars items in my stash (eye shadows and blush) but I’ve accumulated a whole whack of lemmings from this brand during this past year of No-Buy.  I will definitely be getting the Radiant Creamy Concealer, Audacious LipstickAll Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, and if I can justify it, their most recent launch: Pro Palette (custom palette *squee*)

Becca
Brands_Becca
This is another brand I’ve dabbled in – but I’ve only ever purchased items from Winners / Marshalls so it’s high time I give the non-discontinued products a try huh? 😉 I’ve loved the Boudoir Skin Mineral Powder (essentially the same thing as the current Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation).  Aside from finally trying the infamous Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal and Beach Tint, I may check out the Ombre Nudes Eye Palette in (as strongly recommended by Ingrid of CurlySpringBlossom).

Hourglass
Brands_Hourglass
My only experience with Hourglass was a deluxe sample of their famed Veil Mineral Primer (which I didn’t like) but I’m interested in trying one of their Ambient Lighting Powders and possibly a Liquid Lipstick.  I’m gutted that I never did get to try the Eyeshadow Duos which got discontinued in favour of those swirly marble Modernist palettes which I don’t like the looks of.

Marc Jacobs
Brands_Marc_Jacobs
The Highliner Gel Crayon from Marc Jacobs has completely won me over – I want to get at least 2 more colours of this formula. In addition, the polishes are one of the best formulas I’ve tried – pricey but worth it to me.  I’m interested in possibly getting an eye shadow palette or the Magic Marc’er (a liquid liner that’s offered in brown!)

Ardency Inn
Brand_Ardency_Inn
I bought one of their Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments in Rose Gold during Sephora’s VIB sale and I really like it – I want the shades Orchid, Heaven and Hell next.  I’m also interested in trying their Americana Customer Coverage Concentrate which is a highly concentrated foundation that needs to be mixed with face cream – depending on the ratio of mixture, the coverage will vary from a tinted moisturizer to full coverage.

Tarte
Brands_Tarte
The only Tarte item in my collection is the famed Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed… and don’t hate me, but it was such a let down! The colour isn’t that great and it’s not a pigmented product.  Its status is firmly in the “meh” and “ho-hum” category – in fact, I really should have purged it in my last stash clean up.  But, I hear so many people go on and on about the brand, I thought I should give it another chance.  I’m eyeing the Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer (which used to be called Smooth Operator) and an Amazonian Butter Lipstick – I just love the colourful packaging of these.

Too Faced
Brands_Too_Faced
This brand has never held any appeal to me for some odd reason. I’ve only ever tried one thing from TF and it wasn’t even proper makeup; it was the Shadow Insurance eyelid primer (which I really do love).  I think TF falls into the Benefit category for me – cute packaging but no substance. However, I see lots of raves for this brand online so I really should at least try ONE makeup item. I’m thinking the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar eye shadow palette?  I saw a few of you recommended the shade Peanut Butter from that palette as a good transitional shade… and I just love the idea of peanut butter on my eyelids. 😆  Any other Too Faced recommendations?

Vincent Longo
Brands_Vincent_Longo
The Bay has a VL counter now and I’m quite excited to try something from this Australian line after seeing it featured in makeup artist videos.  I’ve read high praises for Water Canvas Foundation, Water Canvas Blush, and Lip & Cheek Gel Stain.  Has anyone used anything from this brand?  Recs?

H&M Beauty
Brands_hm
It’s all the rage on beauty blogs right now so I won’t harp on too much. But come the new year, the nail polishes and blushes will be mine!  And maybe one of the eye shadow palettes! 😉

Oh gosh, so many more!  I won’t go into every one of these but Zoeva, MUG, Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Burberry….  ahhhh!

Polishes – there are SO many polish brands out there I haven’t dabbled in. I’m pretty mainstream when it comes to brands but I’d like to try these:
Ciate
Rescue Beauty Lounge
Misslyn – this is fairly new at Shoppers Drug Mart and I’ve been eyeing it
lacc – another new brand (and Canadian) available at SDM
Mineral Fusion (Chic and Polished introduced me to this)
• More indie brands like Cirque, A England and Llarowe.
And of course, I need a Bootie Babe polish in my life:
Bootie-Babe-rock-bottom-honky-badonky-and-tail-spin
I read more about this brand and the polish is actually made by Nubar.  From the current line-up, I’m interested in getting the shades Rock Bottom and Butt Out. 😉

Have you tried any of the brands / products mentioned in this post?  Yay or nay?  Any recommendations for me?  2016 is going to be one heck of an expensive year! 😉

      1. Yes, for CT I’d like to try the K.I.S.S.I.N.G and Matte lipsticks, the Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hynotize, Colour Chameleon, Mini Miracle Eye Wand. For Becca, the highlighters, and for Hourglass, the highlighters / blushes. Whew. That is going to be EXPENSIVE!

        1. Great list! I know… it adds UP. I have to be strategic in my purchases. Likely anything that I can get through points from Shoppers I will save it for that. I have some HBC points to redeem too. And I will likely wait until next VIB sale to get some of the items from Sephora. The only brand I can’t get a discount on is CT! 😥 BUT honestly, I think her prices are reasonable – I really expected them to be Chanel prices but they’re more like Nars.

  1. You’ve got some brands I have my eyes on, but at the moment am waiting for the ‘right moment’ – when ever that may be!
I own a CT quad eyeshadow and 2 of her lip glosses. I want to get a few of her lipsticks that are currently on my wish list. I have the NARS concealer and find that it has a nice coverage, but wouldn’t use it under the eye area as it isn’t moisturising enough that it could dry that part of the skin.
The Hourglass liquid lipstick, I’m not too found about, I bought a travel sized deluxe sometime ago and wasn’t pleased with the finish! 😦 I wanted to get that limited edition blush palette but didn’t make it on time!
Sephora just launched an Aussie online site and I had added a Marc Jacobs nail polish, do you have any recommendations for colours? They’re a little pricey, but sometimes the pros outweighs the price for me!
The Tarte Amazonian Butter lipsticks are so nice, well the ones I own and the packaging is quite cute. I think I have pink peony and tulips, which are very “spring” colours!
Lastly, those H&M makeup look gorgeous, too bad for us Aussies, we’ll have to wait next year for them. For now, all I can do is admire from afar. Sorry about the long comment, but you’ve got some great items on your list! 😀 😀 x

    1. Thanks so much for your thoughts on some of my wish list items! Good to know about the Nars concealer. I have yet to test it at the store – I should ask them to apply it on my under eye to see it fares.
Ooh thanks for the thumbs down on that Hourglass liquid lipstick. I saw it on a blog and it looked pretty but now that I think about it, I’m not too fond of long wearing products – I find them so drying and accentuate very lip line.
I only have 3 Marc Jacob’s nail polishes: Petra, Le Charm, and Fluorescent Beige. My favourite of the 3 is Le Charm… but Petra is a close second. I also have my eye on the shade Sally, which is a deep green.
The Tarte Amazonian Butter lipsticks are firmly in my BUY list! 🙂

    1. I was watching that Tarababyz’s YT channel and OMG she is out of control. She showed her CT collection (she probably owns 1 of everything from the line) and swatched all the products she owns – if you’re ever curious about any of the CT items, do check her video out.

          1. I seriously don’t know how she manages to use as much makeup as she does. Every palette I see from her has been obviously used. She must spend all her free time playing in that room lol.

            1. Maybe she has a sister / mom that she shares some of her makeup with? I also find it funny that she lives on a farm or something and is quite outdoorsy (those horses) – just the mix of the 2 don’t go together in my mind!

              1. I know it’s so random. But the girl knows what she’s talking about so I’ll take it! I love her vlogs though, it’s so cool cause her life is totally dif from mine.

  2. God Ingrid is going to be the end of me with that Becca palette. I want it too and it’s all her fault, haha 🙂 Overall we have a lot of the same “want to tries.” I’ve never even seen an H&M and CT, Nars and Becca are all on my list. I like Exposed and don’t mind building it but I agree that if it were the first blush I’d ever gotten from them I wouldn’t be impressed. I think with the Tarte blushes you really have to get past that layer where the imprint is though… once you can’t really see the design, that’s when the product starts to “get good.” As for Too Faced, I really like the Semi-Sweet, though I didn’t at first. It has a great variety of warm and cool shades. Peanut Butter is too warm for me but I love to mix it with some of the cooler shades and it is a cute name for sure 🙂

    1. I know right. She’s the enabler of ALL enablers!
Hmm interesting about the Tarte Exposed blush. I might need to use a rougher brush to work through that armour layer! 😛
Do the Too Faced eye shadows smell like chocolate? ❤ Anything else from Too Faced that you'd recommend?
I put that Tarte Butter lipsticks on my list partly because of YOU! 😛

    1. I know, I thought about drugstore type brands but all of the ones you recommended aren’t available to me in person so I’d have to buy them online which really defeats the point of drugstore prices since they prices are inflated online! I’d LOVE to get my hands on Catrice and Jordana!

  3. That Ardency Inn Rose Gold shadow has been on my WL for a while, too! So glad you like it. But I just wanna stop getting eyeshadows until I use stuff I have that remains untouched 😛

I definitely want more NARS Audacious Lipsticks, Hourglass lipsticks, and would love to try Surratt eyeshadow, but again…as above! I bet you’re gonna get their eyelash curler, huh?

And yeah, I do really need to check out H&M nail polish!

Fantastic list – you’re gonna be spending soooo much money next year. LOL!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The Ardency Inn Rose Gold is really pretty and the quality is stellar – but yeah if you’re not going to use your eye shadows maybe you should use the untouched ones first! (haha pot calling kettle black)
Which Hourglass lipsticks are good? I don’t hear much about their lipsticks so I wasn’t sure. I’m SUCH a sucker for anything that’s customizable so Surratt appeals to me greatly – and YES the eyelash curler will be MINE. It’s finally in stock on a consistent basis so I can breathe a sigh of relief.
I really do have to pace myself with my makeup shopping though since we’re going to Japan next year and you know what THAT means? All the Japanese cosmetics I can fit into my suitcase. I already told the SO I need time in the itinerary for shopping lol. 2 weeks in Japan will surely put a dent in my cosmetics budget…

      1. I just have the one Hourglass lipstick (Fawn) and looooove it so much – really easy everyday lippie. I want to try more, but the rest of their colors don’t grab me. :/

Surratt looks sooooo nice. And so pricy.

You know I’m on tenterhooks now waiting for your eventual posts from Japan!!!! 😀 Awesome trip! I’ve never been and would like to go someday.

  4. I love your list! I definitely want to try a lot of these brands especially Charlotte Tilbury BUT I am really happy with my makeup collection right now. I’m trying to pare down my essentials and am also trying to go the organic/all-natural route as much as possible. This means I will only be purchasing essentials at the Sephora sale this year 🙂 bring on the boring!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. That’s a great goal to have. I completely understand being happy with your collection and also sticking with basics. I go back and forth on what I want to focus on with my makeup collection – if I should just stop with the buying and enjoy what I own… but then I feel like my heart has room to love more stuff LOL.

  5. I want to try Charlotte Tilbury. I love the Hourglass veil mineral primer but it is so embarrassingly expensive, so I just get samples at Sephora.

I’ve heard the original Chocolate Bar palette by Too Faced is better than the Semi Sweet. Only Too Faced items I own so far are the Sugar Pop palette & Born This Way foundation. I want to try the melted lipsticks.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh yes you just reminded me of the Melted Lipsticks – yes I’ve been curious about those too! I’m planning on purging a lot more of my lip products and kind of start fresh so maybe I’ll get one of those to rebuild my collection. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂

  6. Fab post! Thanks for the mention! I need more Charlotte Tilbury in my life! I still haven’t tried anything from Becca so thats definitely on the list to try and the hourglass powders look amazing too! I am looking forward to seeing how your spending habits in the new year hahaha!

    1. I’m not going to go CRAZY and likely will get MAYBE 1 item from each brand to dip my toes in first. I just have SO many wants… not really a lot of NEED, ya know? Plus, I mentioned elsewhere that I’ll be going to Japan next year so I’ll be reserving a chunk of my beauty budget for buying all the Asian goodies! I just hope I have enough space in my suitcase. 😛

      1. Hahaha! I can imagine your excitement at actually being able to buy makeup again! How you have had a no buy for nearly a whole year is crazy! I struggle for even a month haha!

  7. I haven’t tried any brands of this list *cries*
Charlotte Tilbury sounds so lovely and luxe! Would love to try some lipsticks from them
Too Faced hasn’t appealed to me either but I hear so much about their eye shadow palettes.

  8. CT is one brand I’m desperate to try but at last the price keeps me away. Everything CT has to offer is stunning, maybe I’ll nudge the old husband to get me something for the holidays. 😉

  9. OMG those bootie babe polishes…hilarious! And weird.

I was so disappointed in my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (Champagne Pop). It is gorgeous but it does not last. At least on me. I struggle with keeping products on my face though. My face is like a really good magician – it makes products disappear! haha! (groan!)

I totally forgot about the Marc Jacobs line. Because I need to add more products to my wish list.

Those Surrat Beauty products look beautiful! *Swoon!*

    1. Oh sorry to hear that the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector didn’t work for you – do you have oily skin? Was it the liquid kind that you got or the pressed compact? I’ve heard the liquid one is difficult to work with so I’m going to stick with the pressed version.
The Surratt line is stunning but OH so expensive! I was playing around with their brushes and then saw it was $250 so I back slowly away from the display… 😛

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I got the pressed compact – I have combo skin so my cheeks aren’t typically oily so I’m not sure why it doesn’t stick.
Woah – $250 dollars for a brush? Is it made of unicorn hair?

  10. Love this post! I share your desire for more Charlotte Tilbury and Hourglass products. Such amazing brands but they do come with an proper price tag so even without a no buy I have to pace myself 🙂
I had also forgotten a little about Marc Jacobs beauty: you don’t read that much about it but it looks so good 🙂 xx

    1. I really like the looks of that all matte CT eye shadow palette you got – I’m mostly likely going to get that in January! But yes the prices are prohibitive to get too many pieces. I figured if I only get 1 item from each of these brands to start off with, I should be ok. 🙂 At first I discounted Marc Jacobs because it was from a fashion label (I always consider those as money grabs!) but the quality and colour selection have been impressive!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh yes, the Sophisticate is lovely. Honestly, I loved all the colorful and shimmery palettes from CT but figured this is the one I would get most use out of.
Same here, I thought Marc Jacobs wouldn’t be great but bloggers seem to love it 🙂

  11. I buy a lot of NARS and Hourglass and actually these brands have 2 products that are must haves for me. NARS radiant creamy concealer and Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder are some of the best formulated cosmetics I have ever owned. OMG!!! Truly spectacular products. NARS foundations and the Audacious lipsticks are also beautiful choices. They are awesome. Hourglass has amazing brushes (Victoria Styles tells me) so I need to try those. I would also love to get Tom Ford lipsticks.

    1. Good to know about the Nars concealer and Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder – they’re both on my MUST buy list! 😀 Which Ambient Lighting powder do you wear? I was thinking of getting Dim Light but others have recommended Diffused Light.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Omg they are products you will love! I have all the single powders from hourglass (had the palette and dropped on day 2, a sad moment in life) but I wear Dim or Radiant almost daily. Next would be ethereal light but Dim is always perfect I feel.

  12. Great list! I am also obsessed w/ the m. jacobs liners. I personally have found the tarte lip butters hit or miss. I have tulip which is great and smooth but not long lasting, but i also tried a coral shade that was just patchy and awful. The more tarte products I try, the less I like. I haven’t tried the too faced semi-sweet choco bar, but I have the original one and I LOVE it!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hmm interesting about Tarte. It’s just not a brand that I’m that interested in but I’m willing to try something from it… I’ll stay away from the coral shade of butter lipstick then! Thanks!

      1. Soon, but not soon enough! I’m hearing of all these VIB Rouge and VIB Sales. I knew I did this to myself! The will power I must have! It ends in December. So I will be able to shop a little in the Sephora sale on sale or is it the $20 off $50 one of those.

  13. Good thing that I read about this. It’ so timely for a friend from Singapore is asking what would I want from Sephora. I got so overwhelmed with the brands when I checked the web. Now I’m overwhelmed with your list. 😀
But I’ll give priority to Surratt. Why, I just love Japanese brands!
