Here’s a Tag that I saw on Katie of Plus Beauty‘s blog ages ago! (I miss Katie, anyone else? I saw on IG that her move went well – I’m so happy for her!)
20 Beauty Questions Tag:
1. Do you remember your first makeup item?
It was a frosty pink sticky lip gloss from Avon. It was terrible but so awesome at the same time! I wasn’t allowed to wear a stitch of makeup until I was in high school (around 14) and even then, it was only lip gloss.
Sunny side up lipgloss from Avon (Source) This isn’t what I had but isn’t this awesome? I’d totally buy that.
2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications
A volumizing one that doesn’t smudge or flake and holds a curl, but can be removed without having to rub the dickens out of my eye area. Cover Girl LashBlast Volume checks all the boxes for me!
3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
I prefer sheer to medium coverage. Asian BB creams provide the perfect coverage for me.
4. Favorite high-end brand?
Shiseido. This brand seems to pop up on my blog pretty frequently, and when I step back to think about some of my favourite products in each category (foundations, eye shadows, blush, skincare), Shiseido does make it to many of those lists. Now if only Shiseido would launch a nail polish line, I’d be all set. 😉
5. Favorite drugstore brand?
Revlon. I think in terms of quality, they are pretty consistent across the board. I think their lipsticks and nail polishes are the best at the drugstore level. I also really like their face products – their PhotoReady concealer is a favourite of mine.
6. Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?
Concealer and brow pencil. Even if I running out to go to Tim Hortons, I must apply a touch of concealer and pencil those brows in!
7. What is your most cherished beauty product?
My MAC limited edition blush in Prim & Proper from the Give Me Liberty of London collection! 😀
8. How often do you shop for makeup?
This year – never. But before… I used to shop for makeup on a weekly basis! I think in the month of November in 2014, I estimated that I bought a makeup item every other day. 😛
9. Do you have a “beauty budget” or you spend freely?
I used to spend freely, whenever I came across something I thought was good value (especially at Winners!) or if there was a sale item at Shoppers. Since this year has been a No-Buy, my budget is ZERO. 😛 Next year I’m considering a monthly budget but I haven’t settled on an amount. And I likely won’t have the same dollar amount for each month since I will be buy more during my birthday month and the holidays, and I tend to spend less during the summer months.
10. What type of product do you buy the most of?
Nail polish. I just can’t get enough. The colourful little bottles of magical lacquers make me so happy!
11. Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?
I try to avoid them but I don’t actively exclude those “hot button” ingredients. But I do tend to avoid irritants such as eucalyptus or peppermint in my face products.
12. Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?
Shoppers Drug Mart has won me over. I used to be ga-ga over Sephora but ever since SDM upped their Beauty Boutique game, I don’t find myself as enamoured by Sephora. Plus, visiting Sephora is an exercise in patience and tolerance. If I see another teenaged girl putting mascara / liner / lipstick straight from the testers, I’m going to cry. SDM Beauty Boutique is SO much more civilized, and their Optimum Points program is so much more rewarding.
13. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?
I do love trying new skincare products but I like to stock some basics that I know will agree with my skin (Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion, MAC Cleanse Off Oil, Yves Rocher Micellar Water). Typically I will only switch out just one new product at a time, just in case my skin freaks out.
14. Favorite bath and body brand?
Cake Beauty. It’s a Canadian brand and their stuff smells yummy!
15. Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?
No, I find that usually the multifunctional products only work well one way – for instance, a lip & cheek stain usually works way better as a cheek product and is too drying on the lips.
16. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
I don’t think so? I don’t mess up applying makeup, but I am clumsy in general and drop things… in fact, I dropped an acrylic tray last night and a bunch of my most used makeup products went crashing on the floor. Nothing outright broke but a few of my transitional eye shadows in my z-palette crumbled a little around the edges. UGH. The SO was like, “AGAIN?” 😥
17. Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?
Yes, I’d love to learn some makeup fundamentals. More for applying makeup on other people than on myself. I’ve only applied makeup on a handful of other people and I don’t think I’m qualified! I just know my own face, really.
18. What do you love about makeup?
This is such a difficult question to answer! I can’t explain succinctly WHAT it is about makeup that I love. It makes me happy. It doesn’t judge me. I love the packaging. I like slathering my face with it. I don’t get bored with it. 😀
There were only 18 questions originally in this tag but Katie added 2 more, which I think are good questions!
19. Dramatic or Natural Makeup look?
Definitely a more natural makeup look. I play up my eyes a bit more but usually in neutral colours and I don’t do heavy liners. I pay the most attention to having clear smooth skin. I love this makeup look on model Sui He:
20. Worst makeup-related habit?
Not wearing lipstick. Or if I apply lipstick in the morning, not reapplying it at all.
Have you done this Tag? If not, please do it – I’d love to read your answers! ⭐
I definitely love Shoppers over Sephora 🙂 – especially when I use my points for makeup!

It is! Their original scented hand cream is my absolute favourite – it smells like Rockets candies (not sure if you have those in the US? I think you guys call it Smarties there)

Ohhh! Yes smarties! I used to get those in my trick or treating bag all the time.

First, I don’t know when this happened, but I love that your blog is so Christmas-y and festive (I’ve been away for a while 😦 )
Concealer and brow pencil are my two must-haves, too!!! TWINS 🙂
I can’t wait to finally catch up on reading your blog! I am definitely going to do this tag 🙂

Looking forward to reading your tag! 😀

I agree with so many of your answers! 😀
Shiseido is definitely an underrated brand in the beauty world. I don’t think I’ve tried as many of their makeup products as you, but every time I do, I’m always wowed by how good they are.
Love your Christmas themed blog! I am totally not in the Christmas mood this year but little things like this are slowly getting me into it 🙂

Thanks – I think I went a bit overboard with the Christmas theme but ah well, it’s all fun for the blog. 😛
There are still lots of things I haven’t tried from Shiseido – they have SO many lines. I saw they sell a face cream for $300!!! 😮

Bahah, I’m guessing you aren’t going to try that one?!
Also, I forgot to mention in my first comment that it’s crazy how you went from buying something every other day, to a no-buy for the entire year. So impressive!

It took a lot of willpower at first, but with any new habit, it did get easier as time went on and I had more practice in the “no shopping” mode. 😛

You know I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from Sheishedo (also no clue if that’s spelled right -lol). I should try something out! What’s your fav?

Shiseido. It took me a while to get the spelling correct too haha. For a first Shiseido product, I highly recommend their Perfect Rouge lipsticks! They’re super pigmented and comfortable to wear:

Great tag! I miss Katie as well, but she should be back soon right?!
Love the look of that LE blush, so pretty. Out of curiosity, what will be the first thing you buy once the no-buy is over?

I think the first thing I’m going to buy is NAIL POLISH! I miss picking up nail polishes here and there. 😛 I may also head back to the Charlotte Tilbury counter, I was really taken by the whole collection!

hihi I can imagine! Nail polish is my favorite impulse buy as well.
And Charlotte Tilbury is absolutely amazing!

Katie just posted didn’t she? Saying she’ll be back in December. By the way, I would love to take makeup classes too! I feel like as much as I DO know about makeup, it is very scattered. I would like some kind of a step by step, structured training. Of course, a makeup course certificate would be helpful!

SO funny Katie came back just now because I had typed this entry up last week. Great timing haha!
I think a lot of makeup application is trial and error but it would be great to have the fundamentals and also learn more about different faces etc… like I said, I know mostly about MY face!

Seems like such a fun tag! I have to be a sneaky copy cat and do it myself sometime soon on the blog 🙂

So glad to see you around! I guess you’re slowly easing yourself back into blogging huh? 🙂
Cake Beauty stuff smells sooooo good. I’m currently using their body lotion and it smells like lemon cake!
Yes, I am counting down the days until I can shop again. But it has been a worthwhile experience to not shop for makeup! I have been enjoying shopping my stash. 🙂

Mmm Lemon cake! Sounds delicious! 😀
I’m glad to hear that you’ve been enjoying shopping your own stash. I have been trying to show love to items that I haven’t even used yet and try to get back to some favorites. 🙂

Aw, this post is too cute. My first makeup item was a Clinique lip gloss in air kiss (it was in a green circular pot and came with a lip brush).
Looks like your buying habit has gone back to ‘free flow’? 😛
