I received the Aloette Aloepure Restorative Enzyme Peel last Christmas from the MIL. And I just opened it a couple of weeks ago…
It’s the same concept as the Japanese cult product, Cure Natural Aqua Peeling Gel. I had used a peeling gel product before, called O’slee Rosehip Peeling Gel, which irritated my skin due to so much manual rubbing of my skin. I was hesitant to use this enzyme peel but I read good reviews online, so I figured I should just finally give it a try.
Aloepure Restorative Enzyme Peel is a bright green gel:
It has a thick gooey consistency and smells citrus-y:
The instruction reads:
Apply a thin layer of Restorative Enzyme Peel to clean, dry skin. Rub gently in a circular motion until small beads form. Once beading has stopped, rinse face with warm water.
When I first used it, for the first 30 seconds of rubbing, it seemed like nothing was happening. But the gel then turns more liquidy and thin, at which point the product starts to ball up on the skin. I’ve replicated the instructions on the back of my hand to show the resulting “beads”:
When I’m rinsing this product off with water, my skin feels *squeaky* clean. Afterwards, my skin does feel softer with no tightness or irritation. However, I did ask my SO to feel the skin on both my hands to see which was softer – he guessed the one that I didn’t use the peel on! Not very scientific, but…
The ingredients are quite good and includes aloe, hyaluronic acid, various fruit extracts – and is alcohol-free:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Carbomer, Papain, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycosaminoglycans, Carica Papaya Fruit Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Blue 1 (CI 42090), Yellow 5 (CI 19140)
Some people claim that the little peeling beads are dead skin being rubbed off, but I beg to differ – it’s just the product beading up on itself. I did a test on the back of my hand – applied the gel 3 times consecutively and each time the product beaded up. If it was really rubbing off my dead skin, why would there still be so much “dead skin” after the first and second peels? 😉
Overall it’s a decent product but I looked up the item online (for research purposes) and found out that the 65g jar costs $47! 😮 To me it’s not worth it, but it was a nice gift to receive! 😉 I’m not too familiar with Aloette but it seems to be along similar veins as Mary Kay.
Two questions for you:
1) Have you tried peeling gels before?

I’m nervous about using things like that after the green apple peel for “sensitive” skin nearly melted my face off! Imagine if I had used the regular one and not the sensitive one!

I was apprehensive to try this too, thinking it could break me out in hives. I’m glad it didn’t! If what you’re using now works for you, stick with it, I say!

Aloette! I didn’t know the brand still existed !!! 😁 I’m afraid of peels since my skin can really react badly to some ingredients/products. I just got an awful outburst of pimples from a new cream.😩

My MIL uses a few Aloette products – I assume she has a friend that sells the products.
Oh no, so sorry to hear about the break out from the new cream! Have you ever tried to look through the ingredients to narrow down the culprit? I’ve learned to read ingredients and avoid certain things – it helps a lot to reduce reactions and I’m more informed when I go shopping.

I know that like in makeup any “mattifying” ingredients doesn’t work for me ! Salicylic Acid in cream is a no-no too 😦 Even mineral stuff start to makes me break out !😞

I haven’t tried any peeling gels or Aloette brand before. But in general, I heard that aloe vera is good for burns or cut on skin. It’s soothing and leaves no scar on wounds. Great review!

Thanks! We used to have an aloe plant and it would sometimes sacrifice a leaf to help heal a cut for us – it was a good plant! Nowadays I have pure aloe gel in a bottle!

I did the same too on cutting a piece and you’re right, it sounds more convenient to have the gel in a bottle than having a missing arm on the aloe plant hahaha!

I have used peel-off gel masks (which I loooove)..but never one that beads up like this! Looks interesting! I especially love products that make my face feel extra, extra clean. Too bad about the price tag though, I don’t think I would be willing to spend that much on something that I would just wash off in a minute or two!

The peel off masks are really fun! It’s like when we were kids and put white glue on my palms and then peeled them off! Tell me you did that too… lol
I’m going to see if I can find an inexpensive one – there’s got to be something out there!

Definitely not scientific lol but it’s enough to say that there must not have been much of a difference. I wouldn’t spend $50 on it either, but I guess it’s always nice to try expensive things for free!

Peter Thomas Roth! I got a big sample of it in… something? I don’t remember what now. I figured I would give it a try, and now do it once a week or so? Sometimes less if I’m doing heavy exfoliation throughout the rest of the week. I don’t need a bunch of product to do it, and it’s made the gel last longer, which makes the price tag a bit easier to swallow.

Oh that’s right! Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel. My friend got that not long ago – I should ask her how she likes it. It has really good reviews online so I am guessing it does work well. You find it makes a big difference to your skin?

ya, it’s not dead skin coming off. It’s a chemical reaction from the product rubbing up against the oils in your skin.

My friend gave me this one year and I agree it’s not dead skin coming off. It’s a nice hoax, although the time spent massaging the face benefits skin — just not the way they claim to.

That’s a good way of thinking about this product – the benefits of massaging the skin! I feel like it does more good than harm so I’ll use this product but won’t seek it out to replace.

I use a peeling gel from the Body Shop, and apparently it opens up the pores on your skin which makes it feel softer at first. Then I always put hand cream or lotion on to seal the pores again but that always kinda dries the skin out a bit. I don’t know why that is. I’ve started using a regular hand cream from the Body Shop now, and I’m quite content with that 🙂

I do think the soft skin effect is temporary too. That’s why you have to keep using it to get that same feeling! This hasn’t dried out my skin at all so I’m pleased about that.

Hmm is this what’s happening with my Belif exfoliating cleanser? They totally had me fooled! Either way I still like the product and my skin is less flaky than last year, but I feel deceived! Ha, I’m so dramatic.

Haha you should sue them for the deception! 😛 I think the rubbing does help with some exfoliation.
But yeah, this product hasn’t harmed my skin and I enjoy using it so I’ll use it up but won’t seek it out to replace. If you like your cleanser, keep using it since it seems to be working to get rid of the flakes.

I know it’s pretty useless, isn’t it? It does feel good to massage the skin and it’s not doing any harm, I’ll use the jar up and that’s it. 😛

I’m obviously not an expert but I don’t really see anything in the ingredients that would chemically exfoliate? Is that what a peel does? Just chemical exfoliation? I’ll have to do some research! So obviously I’ve never used a perl before 😀
I sometimes use aloe gel alone on my skin if it’s feeling irritated and if you continue to rub it into your skin it will ball up like that. I think maybe thats just a property of aloe.

Yeah it’s really not a chemical exfoliation with this product as it claims – it’s much more of a physical exfoliation with the rubbing / massaging of the skin. It’s “peeling” my skin from rubbing it! At least my skin doesn’t get red / irritated with it, so it’s quite gentle.
