First makeup haul of 2016

Sephora clearance section strikes! 😛 I went to Sephora last weekend and I got:

Buxom Look All You Want Set (reg $50 bought for $37)

I half blame Ingrid for this one. I’ve been curious about the Buxom individual eye shadows and customizable palettes ever since they launched. She posted a review of this set, which she received as a gift and at first she wasn’t too keen on it, but she actually ended up quite liking it! Image my surprise at seeing this on the sale area – all by its lonesome.  Besides the green eye shadow, I’d definitely use all the colours in the palette. I might pop out the green shade and get a single matte brown to replace it.

I was really hoping I’d find these since I bought one last holiday season, and I was so happy this store had tons in stock (I think I found some magical Sephora store?). They had other more bold combinations available too but of course I went for my usual MLBB type shades. I also toyed with the BITE Beauty Discovery Set but it was $52 and contained a couple of items I know that I would not use (matte lipstick and gloss) so I passed on it.

I really don’t know what possessed me to pick this up except that I really dig the look of the eye shadow brush. Also, I figured this would be a great little trio for travelling. I’m thinking ahead to my Japan trip – possibly this could be my one and only eye shadow that I bring. I read reviews online and everyone is saying the quality is great but the eye shadows are tiny – perfect!

Sephora Formula X Alchemy II (reg $15 bought for $9)

I didn’t even know that Sephora released a follow up to last year’s holiday shade, Alchemy!  Again, I found this polish by itself – hiding behind other polish bottles in fact. It’s a rose gold shimmer with a whole bunch of other colours in the shimmer. I was all set to pay full retail price for it but it rang up on sale. Total score!

Here is last year’s Alchemy next to Alchemy II. Last year’s was much more of a silvery taupe tone and this year’s is more rosey copper. 🙂

When I checked out, I received my VIB Rouge card. I didn’t pick up my VIB Rouge gift because I was informed that the gift for 2016 is better than the 2015 (Marc Jacobs mini lipstick). The 2016 gift is a mini Nars blush! Not sure that colour yet but it’s NOT Orgasm – yay! So I’ll wait until they’re in stock to pick it up.  Also, the Sephora birthday gift this year there is a choice between 1) minis of Fresh Soy Face Cleaner and Rose Face Mask, or 2) mini Marc Jacobs lipstick and eye liner.  I am betting 90% of people choose the MJ.

Also, full disclosure, on New Years day I also placed 2 online orders for nail polishes (no bricks and mortar stores were open!) but there’s no instant gratification with online shopping. So technically, nail polish was my first purchase post-No-Buy. 🙂  I’ll post about my nail polish haul(s) once I receive my orders! 😀

Let me know if you want me to prioritize any of these items to review!  Full steam ahead for January shopping. I’m just getting my feet wet. 😉

  1. I was watching Tati’s youtube video the other night and saw that Buxom palette.. It made me want to get one.. It looks really nice and she loved it too! Nice haul!👍🏻😊

    1. I’m curious about the Nars blush too. Some people speculate it will be Oasis… who knows. We’ll find out soon enough!
      Those Bite duos are SO worth the money – they’re tiny but I don’t typically finish up full size lipsticks anyway. 🙂

  5. Ah sheeet, I wanted Alchemy II but it was OOS online! Dangit. Now I gotta brave the Sephora. 😛

    Love the haul!

    And you hit VIB Rouge?! Whoooooooa! I saw yesterday that the birthday gift this year is a choice of the Fresh stuff or a MJ makeup set (mini lippie and e/l, I think?), and I’ll be all over the MJ over the Fresh.

    1. Yuuup, I made VIB Rouge toward the end of the year, from my friend who bought a bunch of perfumes for Christmas presents using my $20 off $50! Here’s the post where I talk about it:

      I didn’t even KNOW they had Alchemy II… pure chance I came across this. I’m actually thinking someone returned it, same with the Buxom set.
      The Sephora that I went to is the one on Bloor – they don’t have ALL the lines but usually I find good stuff because it’s not attached to a mall so it’s not crazy in there.

  7. Pretty much everything you got I spent the holiday season listing after. Especially the Buxom set. I exchanged a foundation for a custom palette and only grabbed shimmer colors, but they are all to die for.

    Fantastic haul and congrats on making it through your No Buy!!

  9. Well ! Now I’m super anxious to know, how you enjoy the Buxom palette :/ I use Gimme Gorgeous and Top Shelf every single day. I love all the shades, some feel gritty but when I apply them they look GORGEOUS !!! The Suede Seduction palette will be mine (one day ;)) Nice Haul !!! I feel that Smashbox eye shadows are so underrated !

    1. No pressure on you! I haven’t even opened the box yet! 😛 IF I didn’t have the blog, likely I’d not open it for MONTHS, but since this blog is holding me accountable for these things, I will open it soon to use and review. 🙂
      I agree, Smashbox eye shadows that I have are SO buttery! I want to get more!

  10. That buxom palette looks really nice! Not sure how I feel about the green shade either, but the rest of the colours look super usable! Alchemy II looks so gorgeous! The swatches I’ve seen of it look gorgeous! You are so on point with your blog posts, are you like still on holidays or something? Hahah

    1. I do really need to incorporate SOME colour in my eye makeup looks – I’m always wearing neutrals.
      Funny you say that because I had fully planned to cut back on blog posts after the holidays but I just have SO many posts I needed to post – it wouldn’t be timely if I just spaced them out. I have my 1st year blogiversary coming up too – so that means I have to post about that…

  11. Awesome post-no-buy haul! I was so tempted to get the smash box set because I too was intrigued by the eyeshadow brush, but then decided not too because I have enough neutral shadows. The Buxom looks terrific- let me know your thoughts after using ☺

  13. I am so proud of you!!!! Yay! for makeup hauls!!! I can’t wait to see more! Those nail polishes are to die for! Is it a weird texture once it dries on your nails though?? Would you suggest putting a top coat over it?

    1. Based on the first Alchemy, the polish dries smooth – it’s not textured. I do put a top coat over it just for longevity and shine.
      I’ve been shopping for makeup quite a bit the past week… so definitely keep watching this space for haul posts lol. Then you can see how I got myself into this mess to begin with! 😛

  14. I hope you like the Buxom shadows – I’m really impressed with them! You got a great deal on that set.

    The birthday gift this year sounds lame…I thought it was supposed to be a Marc Jacobs lipstick and eyeliner? I’m so mad because they ran out of the Nars birthday set when I went to pick mine up. And they were trying to give me a Peter Thomas Roth one that I had no interest in instead. Sucks when your b-day is at the end of the year and they actually have a b-day gift that you want.

    1. I think the MJ lipstick / liner is for Rouge? I’m not sure. I’m only basing it on rumours right now. Surely there are some January babies who have picked up their bday gifts by now! Oh that’s super crap they ran out of the Nars lip pencils and tried to pawn off the PTR stuff on you! You should try to get it earlier – tell them last year you were shafted!

      1. Yes I won’t make that mistake again – although they told me I’d be able to get the new gift when it came in. Not sure how that will work when my birthday rolls around this year. I’ll find out soon enough.

    1. I felt a little guilty, actually! I did really scrutinize the store when I was in Sephora. I didn’t linger too long or let the associates help me – they have the ability to get to buy things I don’t need! 😛 But also, now I have a taste for new makeup, I’m seeking out more! Heading to other shops in the upcoming weeks! 😀

    1. Yes I tried to stick to sale items. The regular priced items I can get any time or wait until VIB sale. I hope you can find the Alchemy polish – it was pour luck I spotted it. 🙂

  19. Those buxom shadows! I have been wanting to pick some up myself. But all the shades I want to customize my own palette are always sold out both online and in store 😣😣😣 can’t wait to see your thoughts on them! The colors look awesome!:D ommmgg! How exciting your going to Japan!!!!🙌🙌

      1. That green looks lovely though!!! 😊 maybe try using it as a lower lash line shade?? It would be a nice pop of color don’t you think 😊😊 but yess at such a steal why not!!! Now that your no buy is over woopwoooop!!!! I’ve been seeing soo many and I mean soo many you tubers going to Japan.. I totally wish I had the budget to go lol! It seems like such an awesome experience! Have fun!!!! Take lots of pics and eat yummy food!😄
