Winners (TJMaxx) / Marshalls Haulage

Winners, oh how I love thee! For non-Canadians, Winners is the Canadian version of TJMaxx (or TKMaxx in the UK). It’s owned and operated by the same parent company as Marshalls. Winners used to be the only game in town but now we also have Marshalls (I don’t really understand the differentiation between the two?)  For Canadians, Winners is probably a bigger deal than TJMaxx is in the US – we don’t really have a lot of options for discount stores… or department stores in general. Lots of people treat Winners like another department store since they stock pretty much everything.  Personally, I go to Winners for the beauty products, and sometimes footwear / accessories. Here’s my January Winners / Marshalls haulage:
Winners_haul2016_2
These were all acquired between Jan 2 and Jan 31st! 😀  I also had a couple of gift cards that I’d been saving so those went to good use!

Winners_haul2016_4
Anna Sui Tempting Sweets in 02 Sugary Sweet (from 2014 Holiday collection)
$39 originally – got it for $20
I honestly don’t even remember seeing this collection at the stores in 2014. I initially wasn’t sure if I was going to buy this but eh, I do really like Anna Sui makeup in general. At this Winners they also had a couple boxes of the Anna Sui loose powder but I already own it.  This set includes: Creamy Eye Color in Pink Almond, Creamy Cheek Color in Strawberry, Moisturizing Lip Color in Pink Cherry, and a Lip Balm Jelly.

Winners_haul2016_5
Sukin Micellar Water $10
I can’t wait to try this – if it’s anything like their toner, it’s going to be awesome!

Winners_haul2016_8
Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Blush in Feather $6
I’m not sure what the regular price of this but I have a feeling $6 for this blush is a great deal. I have one of her eye shadow palette from when Sephora was clearing out her line – I suppose there’s still some lingering stock they needed to clear out. I noted that this blush is made in Canada!

Winners_haul2016_6
Sekkisei Clear Cleansing Oil $20
I saw that some Shoppers carries this line and this product retails for $45 but I scored big at Winners! I’ve been quite curious about this luxury Japanese skincare line – I hope I hate it because I don’t want to pay full price for it. 😛

Winners_haul2016_11
Antipodes skincare
I’m beyond shocked that I found this skincare line at Winners! I paid $17 for each of the items.  The first item I spotted was the Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream (reg $54), randomly abandoned by the check out area with the candies. On a separate visit to another location, I found the other 2 items in the natural skincare section: Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream (reg $55), and Joyous Protein-Rich Night Replenish Serum (reg $53). They have the expiry dates stamped on them: all in 2018. And the jars are shrink wrapped sealed too. I’m so excited to give these a try! 😀

Winners_haul2016_7
Bobbi Brown Camel eye shadow
I’m a little regretful about buying this single eye shadow for $20. I think I was just excited by the colour (very much a MAC Uninterrupted mustard baby poo colour) and finding Bobbi Brown at Marshalls.  But I honestly didn’t need this, nor is it really a super deal ($9 off from regular).

Winners_haul2016_12
Bourjois Little Round Pot Trio Smokey Eyes Grey Eyeshadow Collection $8
I *really* did not need this but it was such a good price for THREE Bourjois eye shadows! I’ve owned a handful of these little baked eye shadows and they’re great. The trio includes: 90 Blanc Diaphane, 25 Argent Pailettes, and 14 Gris Delicat.

Winners_haul2016_14
Japonesque 150 Angled Eye Crease Brush $8
This brush felt really substantial in my hand and the natural hairs are soft. I’m curious about the idea of an angled eye shadow brush. I’ve used angled liners and I find them to be really handy to get right close to the lash line – let’s see how this goes!

Winners_haul2016_13
Tokyo Milk Bon Bon lip balm in Opera Mint $8
I remember Jodi (a brash attitude) saying that she really liked the Tokyo Milk lip balm and then I spotted them at a Winners! I wouldn’t have even given it another glance if she hadn’t mentioned it. They had 2 scents available (the other was Iced Green Tea) and my friend and I liked this one better – it smells like sweet vanilla mint.

Winners_haul2016_9
Yoksine Enzymatic Anti-Wrinkle Peeling $8
I love looking at random skincare brands at Winners – there are some amazing gems with odd unrecognizable names but I could spend hours reading ingredients on boxes. This one was made in Poland and contains a decent ingredient list – I also love that the box was shrink wrapped.

Winners_haul2016_10
Pulanna Bio-Gold Essence Eye Cream $9
Another random skincare brand with good ingredients (witch hazel, panax ginseng, hyaluronic acid) – box states it was made in the EU. I mainly bought this because it looks holographic with the little colourful specks.

Winners_haul2016_15
Cake Supreme Body Mousse in Milk Made and Creamy Coconut
I was so stoked to spot these at Marshalls! Unfortunately I didn’t find the Lemon Chiffon scent but ah well, these 2 scents also smell divine! And only $13 for 1 litre bottles (funny, now I noticed these products are listed on Cake’s site, including Lemon Chiffon, but for a “promotional price” of only $36).

Winners_haul2016_3
Laura Geller Baby Cakes Baked Blush Palette
Before this, I only owned one Laura Geller baked blush (Blush-n-Brighten in Berry, also acquired at Winners) and I love it! I was really happy to find this in the clearance section for $15. The shades included are: Sugar Free Raspberry, Pink Grapefruit, Golden Apricot and Sunswept.  And it comes with a retractable brush.

Winners_haul2016_16
Bourjois Soir de Paris Eau de Parfum
I knew nothing about this perfume. I spied it peeking behind a bunch of men’s colognes and decided to do some on-the-spot investigation (how many of you stand in front of makeup displays and google products swatches / reviews on your phone? Hands up!). It turns out that this perfume is based on the signature scent by Bourjois launched in 1928 – its notes are violet, iris and rose. I took a page out of fivezero’s book and bought this perfume untried!  I figured it was only $10, I don’t have much to lose. It’s a soft floral scent that reminds me a bit of the Guerlain Meteorites – I hope it works with my body chemistry.

Have you tried any of the items I got?  What memorable beauty deals have you scored from Winners / Marshalls / TJMaxx / TKMaxx / wherever? 😉

    1. There are no less than 6 Winners / Marshalls near where I live / work, it’s pretty insane. Just on my way home, I pass by 3 of them! So it’s really easy for me to pop into them to have a glance – I’d say I buy something every third visit so it’s not just luck! I’ve been surprised lately at Marshalls – some of the beauty items are kind of hidden so I was able to score some awesome deals.

  1. At Winners in November I scored a Philosophy Hope in a Jar gift set containing a full size day cream, medium sized night cream and small eye serum for $40! Its so hit and miss, but when it’s a hit it can be amazing (especially for someone with knowledge of so many different brands!)

      1. Yeah, they’re pretty good. This set didn’t feature the latest formulas, but still worth using. I got some samples from the counter in the Bay that were even better.

    1. Low-buy kicks in now! These were acquired in January. I’m so backlogged on posting. I also ordered some stuff online which takes a while to arrive.
I saw a UK blogger show off Illamasqua items from TKMaxx and I was green with envy! 😛

  2. Weee you got some great deals there! Lots of stuff I haven’t seen at my Winners (but it is a smaller one, after all). I really need to trek out to the bigger ones sometime.

I’m not a skincare maven, so I tend to skip that aisle unless I see something I normally use. I love reading about the stuff you get – just gives me random lemmings!

The Bourjois perfume sounds really pretty! Nice score. I’m always seeing frags that are on the expensive side at Winners (like, it’d be cheaper if I bought from FragranceX). Ugh.

The Tarina blush is so pretty! I bought some TT eye pencils from Winners last year; haven’t tried them yet but the prices were too good to pass on. Funny it’s made in Canada.

My fave deals at Winners are usually bags/clothing and home stuff. I love some of the old random Italian leather bags I’ve gotten there (usually at the Bloor St location when I used to go there more often), and a couple years back I scored some Italian boots that I am in love with. RM & LP bags, DvF dress, Missoni duvet set, Le Creuset frying pan…(HomeSense, same company). So many deals! Oh and nail polish, of course.

    1. I regularly hit up these locations:
Winners: Bloor, King & Bay (in the PATH), College Park, Stockyards
Marshalls: John & Richmond, Yonge & Dundas
      😀
I totally thought of you when I decided to buy that Bourjois perfume (What would Fivezero do? “WWFD”? 😛 ) It was scored from the Marshalls on Yonge & Dundas.
I really should pay more attention to the purses. I usually just skim over them – if I don’t recognize the brand, I tend to not trust my assessment of leather quality.
Oh speaking of nail polishes… just wait til tomorrow’s post (I’m somewhat embarrassed. Somewhat. 😉 )

  3. Man, do you shop at a magical Winners?? I’m never able to find anything good at the ones here, and if there IS something good, then the package has been opened (the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow would have been a goner).

I love everything you got your hands on, haha! The Anna Sui products look really cute – would be interested to know what you think after using them, since you initially weren’t going to buy it. The Laura Geller blush palette looks awesome, and I’m jealous you got your hands on a Tarina Tarantino blush! The Pulanna eye cream looks really pretty…haha.

    1. There are honestly SO many Winners / Marshalls near me that I have tons of options. The beauty of it all is that I can hit them on the way home so I try to pop in a couple of times a week if I’m in the mood. I don’t buy something every time, of course – I probably have a 25% success rate.
I didn’t know if anyone would be interested in reviews of these items since they’re from older collections but I can definitely provide my thoughts of the Anna Sui set!
Isn’t the price of that Tarina Tarantino blush crazy? I think whoever prices these don’t know what some of these products are – they see something cute / childish packaging – it must not be worth much?
That Pulanna eye cream (well, it’s more of a gel really) is SO pretty – it’s got swirls of holographic flakes suspended in the gel! I tried to capture it on camera but failed. I think it could be a good eye gel for the warmer months. 🙂

      1. Makes sense, 25% seems reasonable for Winners if you’re able to stop by often enough! Now I feel like I need to be creeping around Winners regularly to wait for their new stuff to come in 😛

Maybe it’s because Tarina Tarantino is a lesser known brand so whoever did the pricing just stuck a low price on it?

I can see the blue and orange flakies in your picture! It’s too pretty to use, haha.

Also, great job scoring the Antipodes skincare items! I’ve always wanted to try the brand.

  4. Laura Geller Pink Grapefruit is one of my favorite blushes !!! I hope we have this palette in Quebec soon (such a great deal) ! The other day I had the Anna Sui Tempting Sweets in my hands but I left it there 😦 I would have grabbed the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow too 😉 Great haul !!!👏🏼

    1. Aww why did you leave the Anna Sui at the store? They’re so cute! But I guess you didn’t want to use up all your monthly budget. 😛 I’m wearing the Pink Grapefruit TODAY! I think it’s my favourite out of the shades in the palette! 😀

    1. I got the eye cream at the Winners at King & Bay (in the PATH) and the other 2 at the Winners at Dufferin Mall! 😀 I suspect people don’t know what Antipodes is? 😛
Yeah it’s a mishmash of stuff but it’s the most FUN because look at the DEALS!

    1. I’m telling you, Winners has upped their game in their skincare selection, especially with the natural skincare stuff. I always head to that section first (even before nail polishes). I was FLOORED to have found the Antipodes. I had to look around to make sure that I wasn’t on Candid Camera lol! (as I reach for the Antipodes boxes, invisible strings slowly inch them away from my hands… I keep trying to reach for them but they keep moving further and further!) 😛

  6. You guys have a much better makeup/skincare selection than we do. I have no clue why you bought that eyeshadow though. I KNOW you have that shade in your collection already and your right $9 isn’t much savings. I probably would have flipped if I saw Bobbi Brown in stores too though. All we get is the Kat Von D stuff that’s already expired.

    1. I know! I really shouldn’t have bought it. It’s SUPER similar to the MAC one… I’m a loser. Thanks for the verbal spanking. 😛
I try not to get any liquid type of products like foundation, lipgloss or mascara – never know how old those are.

  7. you guys have great stuff. Our Marshalls here is great for house decors and other stuff but not on the cosmetics section. AND what happen to the $50 dollar budget STASH??? HAHHAHA

      1. HAHAHHA.. yeah.. I saw that.. I tried giving myself $40 a month as that’s what I allocate my self to carry cash.. But I’m not sure if I can keep the $40.. It’s not enough.. LOL

  8. OMG I love antipodes! Cannot believe you found those products on sale, you got an amazing deal. I love the kiwi eye cream and vanilla day cream, but I haven’t tried that serum yet. Can’t wait to hear what you think about all of them 🙂

    1. It’s amazing, right? That’s why when you posted about the Vanilla day cream and gave it such a good review, I was super excited! I’ll likely never find such a great deal as this again! The kiwi eye contains 30ml of product, double the amount of most eye creams! I have to finish up my current creams before I open them up but I can’t wait. 🙂

  9. Oooh looks like you got your hands on some bargains! I never go into TKmaxx in the UK as all the stores are so cluttered and I find the whole experience really stressful. All the makeup looks like it’s been poked and prodded and looks a little grubby!! I’m glad it seems better in Canada! I’m actually heading to Toronto in April so I may have to try and hunt one down 🙂 xxxx

    1. Some Winners stores are quite messy but I find lately they’ve been making a better effort to lock items up in security cases. Many of these items were inside locked cases so people don’t open and test them – I know, I hate that! Oooh you’re coming to Toronto! Are you visiting family? 🙂

        1. Niagara Falls is a fun place! It’s very touristy. 😛
In Toronto – gosh, you will have to go shopping on Queen Street West, I think you’ll love it. Visit the Eaton Centre downtown. Also for more touristy things, go to the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, the St Lawrence Market. The Distillery District is nice but a little bit out of the way. Same with Casa Loma. Hmm it’s been a while since I’ve recommended places for people – I shall get back to you with more ideas! 🙂

          1. Thanks! I’m only at Niagara falls for 1 day and night so to be honest, I want to be as touristy as I can and see it all!!! Oooh thanks for the suggestions! I will make a note of them 🙂 drop me an email if you think of anything else! Places to eat would also be a good one! xx

  11. Now I don’t know half these brands and products! Lol! That’s the cool factor in following international bloggers… Bobbi Brown, Anna Sui and Bourjois are common knowledge. I have heard of Japonesque, Antipodes, Tokyo Milk and Laura Geller but everything else *cricket sounds*.

  12. Nothing makes me happier than finding great deals @ Winners – ESPECIALLY in the beauty section. Looks like you got some great stuff, I’m jealous of the Anna Sui, Laura Gellar and Tarina Tarintino items! I picked up that Cake Shower Froth in Milk Made too – and I love it. That scent is just so comforting.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh so glad you found that Cake Milk Made shower froth! I’ve not tried that product from Cake – I have soooo many shower gels to go through first. I do love the Milk Made smell so much though. I’ll keep an eye out for it. Yay Winners! 🙂

  13. Love both the Canadian and US version of the stores..Though think the US Marshalls are the best ones, found an Ole Henriksen oil for just 12 dollars, and The Body Shop Body Butters for just 5:) If you go to NY you have to visit the Marshalls store there, the best one ive tried soo far:))) I always end up with way too many things when I leave from there/ Mary

    1. I’ve been seeing Anna Sui there quite a bit lately! Also Smashbox stuff and even Nars. Some of the colours are a bit crazy (no, I do NOT need blue eye shadows) so I guess they’re clearing them out at TJMaxx.

  14. So jealous of these great deals. One thing I miss about living in the U.S. is all the great discounts that can be found when it comes to beauty. Sigh. I suppose it’s better for my budget. Though living at home I mostly buy high end. 🙂

  15. Wow, you got so many amazing things! 😀 Congrats! I’m in the USA, but currently at college where there are no Marshalls or TJMaxx nearby. 😦 (But when I’m at home, there are some within driving distance!)

    1. Sometimes I wish I’m not close to so many locations because it’s tempting! The thing with TJMaxx is if you see something you like, you HAVE to buy it right then and there or else it’ll be GONE. I’ve bought things I really don’t need before and don’t end up returning because I hate returning things… so my friends get them instead! 😉
