Random makeup haul: Shoppers, Rexall, Faces, etc

By now you’re sick of my hauls, right?  I’m sorry, but you realize January was NO HOLDS BARRED month, and I just came off a yearlong dry spell, so every makeup item looked mighty tempting.  This is the LAST of the January hauls (until I receive the items I ordered online).  Here are some random bits and pieces I picked up that I haven’t covered in my previous posts:

Shoppers Drug Mart:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_4
Annabelle Blush-On in 48 Chestnut
Annabelle Blush-On in 51 Golden Bronze
Annabelle Blush-On in Spring Petal
These were all 50% even though there was no sign posted – the Shoppers SA said this line was being phased out at Shoppers in favour of Joe Fresh, but so far, Annabelle is still at Shoppers. Annabelle’s blushes are one of my favourite drugstore products.

• Joe Fresh Fine Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Brown $8
• Quo Back to Basics eye shadow Cameo $10
Revlon Super Lustrous Shine Lipstick in 825 Lovers Coral $4
• Essence Mountain Calling Translucent Powder 01 Snow Alert $3
Speaking of Joe Fresh, it’s finally set up at Shoppers. I wasn’t too impressed with the revamped line – I settled on this liquid liner pen.  The Quo eye shadow is yet another matte transitional type shade in my growing collection. This powder feels so silky and reminds of the high quality that Quo eye shadows were once known for. The Revlon lipstick was inspired by fivezero’s Megapost – I wanted to get one more but I just could not decide! So only Lovers Coral made it home with me (it’s a sheer formula). Next time there’s a sale I might pick up Rich Girl Red or Red Lacquer (they just seemed SO bright to me at the time). The Essence powder was in the clearance bin and I have no excuse for buying it. 😛

Rexall:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_6
Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Cheek & Lip in Berry Pink $4
• NYX Powder Blush in Bourgeois Pig $6
It seems that Rexall is clearing a bunch of old NYX blushes and I snagged literally the LAST one in the display (the products with the happy face stickers on them meant they were on clearance). When I spotted it, I thought, Uh oh, it’s going to be either opened or a tester, but nope, it was sealed AND it was a colour I had on my wish list. I’ve wanted Bourgois Pig for ages partly because of the name haha!  And I’ve curious about the PF BB lip / cheek thing for a while now – at $4, I couldn’t pass it up.

Avon:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_7
Avon Makeup Setting Spray $6
Avon True Color Eyeshadow Single in Satin Taupe $3
SuperShock Gel Eye Liner Pencil in Intense Brown $5
I mentioned that I found someone who sells Avon so besides some nail polishes, I also picked up an eye shadow single (I want to see if Avon’s Satin Taupe is like MAC’s!), a makeup setting spray to try, and finally the famed SuperShock liner (everything I got from Avon was on sale).

Well.ca
makeup_haul_Jan2016_8
• Onyx Professional Moisturizing Formula Nail Polish Remover
• Milani 01 Romantic Rose Powder Blush
• Pure Anada Pressed Eyecolor in Mirage
I’ve been wanting a Milani Rose for ages after seeing it on everyone’s blogs! I used to be able to buy that Onyx remover at Walmart but they stopped carrying this formula – it’s the best! And the Pure Anada eye shadow was on sale and well, you know how my Kryptonite is the word “sale”. 😉

Faces:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_9
Faces Metaliglow 03 rose bronze $15
Faces eye shadow #259 refill with compact $11
I’ve been wanting that Metaliglow liquid for literally years – I’d read that it makes a great eye shadow primer. Faces sells their cosmetics at kiosks in malls and I’ve always walked pass them without a second though. Someone commented in my Canadian Beauty brands post about Faces and it reminded me again about the brand.  I finally decided to get it, along with an eye shadow. The Faces website is atrocious though.

Body Shop:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_3
Body Shop Moisture White Shiso BB Serum Inside $25 regular but on clearance for $12.50
Body Shop Glazed Apple Feel Good Tin $25 regular but 75% off for $7.50
I’ve been wanting to try more items from the Moisture White Shiso line (I’d only tried the cleansing oil and I quite liked it) but unfortunately, the Body Shop is discontinuing the line. I couldn’t resist on picking up this BB cream since I read some good reviews on it. And the Glazed Apple seasonal scent is amazing! I bought some items as a gift last year and I kicked myself for not getting it for myself.

The Face Shop:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_10
The Face Shop Essentials kit $29 reg, got for $17.40
The Face Shop Volcanic Lava Pore Mud Pack $25, got for $20
The Essentials kit includes 7 of the most popular products from FaceShop, ranging from nail polish to sheet mask to cleansing foam. This was on clearance for 40%. And the SA convinced me to try the pore pack (which is just a clay based face mask) – I’ve been curious about skincare with volcanic ash for a while. Volcanic ash is the 5th ingredient in this product. And I got it for 25% off.  For spending more than $30, I got their new makeup blender sponge for free (a $5 value).

Here’s the inside of the Essentials kit, I just noticed that it’s missing the mascara and I can’t seem to find it. I wonder if it was missing from the pouch when I bought it. 😦

Truly random:
makeup_haul_Jan2016_12
Suki Wonderland Cheeky Cheek in #2 Lovely $11
A random buy from an Asian beauty store called Jealousy Beauty that I rarely visit – this was on their clearance table for 50% off and looked really cute.  Everything else in the store is a rip-off though. (I’ve since found through google that this blush collection was based on Alice in Wonderland – this is the Queen of Hearts!)

I will note that I took a special visit to the new NYX store in town the last weekend of January, but shockingly, I left empty-handed! 😮  It was just so crammed in the store, with so many customers crowding every display. Plus, a lot of items were out of stock. And everything just looked so… cheap. I’m not a makeup snob, but seeing a whole store full of NYX made the products look less appealing, for some reason. The only 2 items I toyed with getting was the pot concealer, and the mascara topcoat which I’ve heard good things about. In the end, I decided to wait.  I was so excited to visit the store but… my makeup mojo was gone! Has that ever happen to you?

Have you tried any of the items I randomly bought? 🙂

    1. Oh most definitely I’ve gotten more than I’ve used! I’m just opening some items I received for Christmas! I’m trying to get to doing some reviews soon but need to thoroughly use the products first!

  1. I’ve tried Bourgeois Pig before but had to pass it on to a friend. I’m very heavy handed with my makeup application and it was VERY pigmented. But the formula was nice and it was very blendable.

      1. I didn’t swatch it before putting it on for the first time because I thought surely it couldn’t have pigmentation that would make it look just like it did in the pan, but I was wrong. The most wrong I’ve ever been in my whole life.

    1. The mango scent is one of my favourites! I love smelling like a tropical fruit punch lol. Currently I’m using the Body Shop White Musk Libertine body butter which is a lighter version of their White Musk scent – really lovely and I don’t normally like White Musk.

  2. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of your hauls! Although I am now looking forward to some of the other types of blog posts you’ll have coming up 🙂

Great find on the 50% Annabelle blushes! I’ve never heard of the brand Faces (don’t think I’ve seen a kiosk for them at any malls here before), but the Metaliglow looks crazy pretty.

You’re right, the Glazed Apple scent is delicious! I passed it up this year and wish I bought it 😦 haha. The Body Shop has awesome deals on all of their gift sets once Christmas has passed.

    1. Oh yes, I am personally sick of my own haul posts LOL! I want to get back to comparisons and reviews. 😛
I’m not sure how I heard about Faces but I know that their products are made in Canada. Their products used to look a lot like MAC’s but their kiosks can sometimes be a little dated looking:

  3. The Annabelle blushes look amazing, especially Spring Petal.

Revlon lipsticks are some of my favorites, very good quality for an affordable price- I also like their Matte lipstick line, I find them to not be too drying on the lips in my opinion.

I’m not sure if you’ve ever tried Avon’s Eye Makeup Remover Lotion, but it’s amazing! Very gentle on the eyes, hydrates, doesn’t string (even if you open your eyes while its on) and really removes eye makeup- if you haven’t tried it, definitely consider ordering it at some point!

As far as NYX goes- I own the NYX pot concealer, and it’s my least favorite in my stash- it just sits there all lonely and I always skip over it, over my other concealers. I find that it creases easily, and has a somewhat greasy consistency.

NEVER sick of your hauls, I love seeing what you recently purchased!

    1. Yes, I have used the Avon eye remover lotion! But it made my eyesight cloudy! I’m over the makeup remover lotion / creams – I prefer the oil cleansers now. I agree though, it’s very gentle.
It’s good to know about the NYX pot concealer! Maybe I’ll put that out of my mind then. I’m in the midst of purging a bunch of foundations and concealers so that’s why I was in the market to try something.
Heh, I need to get going with USING all the stuff I got and providing reviews and swatches! I *just* opened that Buxom palette I got on January 2nd from the Sephora clearance sale! 😛

      1. Aww man, it hasn’t made mine cloudy (yet) haha you never know when or if it will strike! I can see how oil cleansers would be great for makeup removal though, once I find one that looks interesting i’m going to give it a shot.
Yeah I am not a huge fan of the NYX concealer pot, but i’m sure some people really love it..even if you do decide to try it, at least your not breaking the bank for a hit or miss.
With all of the products you buy I can imagine you don’t get to some of them for a while!

    1. Yes I’m starting to see their displays set up. A bit underwhelmed though because they don’t carry a lot of the single eye shadows. I saw at the NYX store they sell refill pans that are only $5. But 100% of their makeup is made in China… not sure how I feel about that yet.

      1. i bought a few at the shoppers on the danforth and returned the next day – singles – a goldy one and a pinky one – you know what xxxx i didn’t even open – i think that i like their lip stuff – but if i return something the day after – i dunno xxxxxx ❤

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Oh yeah, if you return the very next day… not a good sign! I bet you picked up one of their metallic / foil ones. Those were the only singles I saw. The rest were the palettes which I don’t typically like the quality of.

          1. yeah i did …. i thought blue eyes – shimmer shimmer ….. then i saw teenagers like loitering around the nyx area lol then i was reminded of my Loitering days at shoppers in high school ….. so funny xxx

  4. Ah you lucked out finding something on your wishlist and on discount! I haven’t tried any of these products – a lot are brands we don’t get, but I’ve been planning to delve into the world of blushes more this year (I have NEVER worn one) so I must look for dupes here of that shade.

  5. I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything from Faces! I do remember looking at their nail polishes once, years ago – and they were packaged in the same bottles that Too Faced polishes used to come in! But I balked at the price (I mean c’mon, it’s sold at a KIOSK lol) and besides, nobody came to help me. Jeeeez. I’m curious to see how you like the stuff, though.

I still have not seen Joe Fresh at SDM! Must go hunt for it. I hope they don’t stop carrying Annabelle, though, admittedly, I think I’ve only bought a couple Annabelle products over the last 10 yrs. Your blushes look über-pretty.

I have NYX Bourgeois Pig, too!!!! LOL I also bought it for the name. I saw the NYX clearance but I think I already had what I wanted out of the 3-4 shades I saw.

I’m so happy to hear Quo’s e/s is back to being good! I have a super old one called Mystery (a shimmery purple) and I loved it so, back in the day. I think I wore it on my wedding day.

Onyx np remover added to my shopping list!

    1. I have the Quo eye shadow in Mystery TOOOO! I think that shade might be shattered though from me dropping it. I’ll have to check. I also have 2 other old school Quo eye shadows called Dusk, and Haze. This Quo Back to basics eye shadow is made in Italy. Smooth as buttah. 🙂
Yes, the Faces kiosk is hit and miss. Often, it’s sour looking ladies behind the counter and I don’t even bother. I did momentarily eye their nail polishes but oh my gosh, how DATED are their bottles – they’re so awesome and horrid all at the same time:

And yes, overpriced for what they were. The eye shadow I got is made in Canada though. Not sure about the Metaglow.

    1. Yes, they’re discontinuing both the Shiso White and the Nutriganics lines! If you like the eye cream, stock up now – everything is half price. Hmm now you make me want to get the eye cream! Is it rich – ie. more for night time? Or day time cream.

  6. You finally bought the nyx blush!!!yay:D and like ALWAYS you found more awesome deals lol!!!👍💪oooo and I see you found a milani product! I have yet to try those blushes but have been eyeing them! 😊 I can’t believe you got that body shop set so cheap!!!! :O how cool!!!!!

  7. Did you know that NYX website just did a $2.50 sale on their blushes over the weekend? I should have thought of you when I saw that.. BUT.. I love the Body Shop goodies you got.. Love it! 🙂

    1. Aw online shopping is often a rip off for us Canadians – even with a sale. First off, our exchange rate is horrendous right now. And then, the shipping charges are usually really expensive. Unless the site is a Canadian-based site, I rarely purchase from the brand’s sites.
I want to buy more stuff on Body Shop! There’s a few body stuff on sale that I want. Good thing my Low-Buy doesn’t cover body stuff. 😛

      1. haha.. yeah.. true! I rarely buy online too coz I like seeing the product up close.. And yes! that Body Shop is soo cool! 🙂

  8. Hahaha Bourgeois Pig – what a name! I was super excited last week as I noticed a Shoppers near me has started carrying Nyx! Except they were already sold out of most of the things I wanted to buy and there were barely any testers.

I’m just finishing up that nail polish remover, I agree it is good and it lasts forever. However my new favorite is Quo’s version – it took off my glitter polish like nothing.

All your haul posts make me want to go shopping!

    1. I came face to face with a NYX display this week at Shoppers and I was a bit underwhelmed! They didn’t stock the single shadows like how Rexall did. And yes, a lot of the items were already sold out.
Oh I haven’t tried Quo’s polish remover – is it in the pump bottle? I’ll have to check that out in the future.
Hehe, sorry about causing the urge to go shopping… that was like me with everyone’s hauls last year! 😛

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I don’t have a Rexall near me but London Drugs is the only other place that carries NYX here. Their display is extensive but they rarely get any of their new products in. I like that there’s some competition now at least!

Yup I bought the Quo pump and then I just plan on buying the bottles to refill it. 🙂

  9. Haha! You’re compensating a year-long of no-buy with some great hauls! The Body Shop Glazed Apple is a good choice: I loved that scent too!

    1. Thanks! I did see the candle too but I recently received a bunch of candles and I don’t burn them that much so I decided to hold off on the candle. Hopefully they’ll bring it back next year! 🙂

  10. OMG. I almost died at the Nyx store during my last visit to Toronto. While it wasn’t crammed, I went right at opening on a Sunday, the stuff was incredible. Unfortunately, all of their makeup brushes were sold out! That’s what I was really after. How great is that Milani rose blush?? I have it in a bright coral colour that looked really crazy in the pan, but is so universally flattering! I LOVE IT.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Awww that sucks the stuff you wanted were sold out. I hope Shopper’s will keep their NYX inventory well stocked! I’m still too enamoured by the Milani Rose blush design to actually USE it! I will try it next week!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Haha! I’ve had my Milani blush for about 3 months and I barely use it because it’s too pretty! Ok – there are no Shoppers’ in Ottawa that carry Nyx! We sooooo get the short end of the stick here. Thankfully, Rexall carries most of their collection (minus the brushes). xo
