Optimum Points Redemption Beauty Event Haul

Yippee! Another opportunity to get free makeup! The Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points Redemption event last weekend was all focused on BEAUTY – so what choice did I have but to get more makeup? 😉

I had $200 to redeem. Yeah yeah, I just did a makeup purge and here I am, getting more stuff… (My stash was getting dangerously low with all the decluttering LMAO! 😆 )

I set out with a short list of items I’d wanted: a concealer, a foundation, and a lipstick (since I’d purged a bunch recently!) and I wanted to focus on drugstore brands.  However, I wasn’t finding everything I wanted from the drugstore brands so I ventured into higher priced brands.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation SPF15 in 20 Classic Ivory
This was recommended by KazzMarie and has really good reviews online. I was further encouraged about the formulation when I found out that the sunscreen is physical (titanium dioxide) rather than chemical. I had planned on getting the 25 Nude Beige but it looked too peachy in the bottle. Oddly enough, the ivory shade had more yellow to it. I’m never the ivory shade. I hope it matches!
EDIT: I had to go back to exchange the concealer (below) so I decided to exchange this shade for the 25 Nude Beige instead. I didn’t use this but I based my decision on 2 posts: Nouveau Cheap, who found the 20 Classic Ivory to be too light for her NC20 skin tone, and Allura Beauty, who found the 25 Nude Beige to match her despite looking dark in the bottle. I think my skin tone is really similar to hers.

Joe Fresh Blush in Hydrenga
This retails for only $6 but looks much more expensive, doesn’t it? I hope it wears well.

CoverGirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Roses
I saw these swatched on YouTube and they looked really good! I don’t have a lot of rosey coloured eye shadows and I saw a gorgeous pink eye shadow look by Polished and Inspired so I decided to give this a try.

CoverGirl Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Vitamin Infused Balm in Caramel 3
I’ve been eyeing these since they launched. I love me some tinted lipbalms and these are meant to be a dupe for the Fresh ones.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Lipstick #45
Rimmel makes one of my favourite drugstore lipsticks and I’ve been eagerly waiting to get the Kate Moss nude collection. Then I saw swatches on Curly Haired Messy Mane’s blog and I knew I had to pick up #45, which looks like a non-corpse looking nude. 🙂  I’m still eyeing #43 which is a peachy nude.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rapture
It was a toss-up between Liar and Rapture, and the MUA recommended Rapture because she said that Liar was too brown-toned which would “bring out the yellow” in my skin (WTF?) I still wanted Liar but in the end it was sold out so I got Rapture after all.

Anna Sui Lipstick G in 350 Powder Pink
I mainly wanted this to complete my collection of Anna Sui lipsticks! 😛 I already own Lipstick V and M – the G range with the ruby coloured caps were calling out to me… even though “G” stands for GLITTER. I tested all the shades and 350 is the least glittery one – more of an opal sheen. I’ll be using this to lighten up lipsticks.

Rimmel SuperCurler 24 Hr Mascara
I don’t NEED another mascara right this very moment but I succumbed to the advertisements for this mascara that shows the model tossing her eyelash curler. I so want that claim to be true!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Medium Light Neutral
I was going to get the Joe Fresh Illuminating Concealer but I noticed that it’s made in China. 😦 So I decided to get this which was recommended to me by Glam Necessities. Wait a second, I just looked at my tube and it’s Medium DARK Neutral – the MUA picked up the wrong shade for me! I’ll have to go back to exchange it. 👿
EDIT: I went back last night to exchange this and another MUA assisted me. She matched me to Light Neutral instead. When I compared Medium Light Neutral against the Light Neutral, I can see that the Medium Light is too dark and too ochre against my skin tone. It wasn’t a hassle to exchange this at all – I had my receipt and the item was unopened / unused.

Lise Watier Simply Nudes 12-Colour Eyeshadow Palette (Spring 2016 Variations de Nude Collection)
I spotted the new set up of the Lise Watier Spring collection and tested the eye shadows and I was sold! The shadows have almost a cushiony feel to them, and just look at the colours!optimum_points_redemption_Jan2016_7
This is my favourite item that I got from this redemption event! Maybe I’m turning into a palette girl! 😮

This “haul” cost me zilch! 😀 The items I had on my list that I couldn’t find at this particular Shoppers location were: Garnier micellar water, L’Oreal Color Riche Mono shadow in Pain au Chocolat, Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon in Lavish Lavender, and something from NYX but they did not carry NYX.

Have you tried any of the items I got?  Let me know what you’d like to see a review of… I’m knee-deep in products that I need to test out and review! 😉

  1. Aww lucky!! I wanted to go to last wknd, too, but DH got what appeared to be a stomach bug, so I stayed in 😦 (Turned out it was just food poisoning, so I should’ve just gone! Ahhh! I was wanting some Soap & Glory stuff.)

Love the haul! I can’t wait to see how you like the lippies, and the Lise Watier eyeshadow palette looks fantastic.

Don’t you hate how there’s not one beautyBOUTIQUE location that carries all the brands?! When I wanted a UD palette, I then couldn’t get any Lise Watier, etc. Wish they’d let you redeem the points online, then you could get everything.

    1. And yeah, I’ve learned to double check all my stuff from SDM. I had an annoying case where the very nice SA switched up two of my four products and I had to go back. Luckily they’re good about it.

      1. So funny thing, I went back to Shoppers last night but didn’t get a chance to update this entry. But another SA helped me. I told her I should have gotten the Medium Light, not the Medium Dark. And she looked at me and said, no, you shouldn’t even be Medium Light, you should be Light Neutral. She swatched them for me (the other SA didn’t even show me that shade) and the Light was WAY better. Go figure! She was really nice – I find as long as you have a receipt, you don’t get hassles.

    2. Aw too bad about DH having food poisoning! I’ve never experienced that but it sounds horrible! I hope Shoppers has another redemption event sooooon! What Soap & Glory items were you eyeing? I’ve tried a few items from the line but I really dislike their signature scent so that’s a limiting factor!
I know, so annoying BeautyBoutique brands are inconsistent. It’s like Sophie’s choice!

      1. I kind of need a body scrub, but ahhh that’s good to know that you didn’t like their sig scent. Maybe I should see if there’s a tester I can sniff.

And yeah, projectile vomiting is NOT FUN. I got food poisoning for the first time a few years back and since I’d never had it before, I wasn’t sure what was going on and thought I was gonna die. XD HORRIBLE.

  2. Love your picks! The packaging of the Anna Sui lipstick :O The shade you chose for the Rimmel lipstick is gorgeous. I haven’t heard of the Covergirl Colorlicious balms yet but now I may have to head to Shoppers at lunch to check this one and the Rimmel lipstick out!
Let us know your experience with the UD concealer! Haven’t quite decided yet, but I think it’s the next one I want to try.
The Lise Watier palette looks right up your alley with the taupes! The formulation sounds lovely and makes me want to go swatch the palette!

    1. I’m planning on doing a brand overview / my collection of Anna Sui beauty! I just love the packaging. 😛
I can’t wait to try all the lippies! I’ve held off so I could take more detailed pics… ah the life of a blogger!
The CG Colorlicious balm smells SO good – just like the Fresh ones.
I’ve had SO many recommend the UD concealer to me recently, and since SDM doesn’t carry Nars, I figured I’d get this one first.
And the List Watier palette, omg I need to take pictures TONIGHT so I can dig into that baby. 😀

      1. Oooh, yes please! I always see Anna Sui at department stores and noticed how cute their packaging is, but always walked right by it because I never heard much about the brand until I started reading your blog.
I went to Shoppers at lunch and the CG Colorlicious balm section was COMPLETELY EMPTY *cries* The Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick has an awesome formula and the shade is so pretty, but I think it would be too light on me 😦 It’s the darkest shade in the range too, boo!

  3. Awesome haul! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone build up that many points in any business’s system. Glad you were able to pick up the Better Skin Foundation! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!

    1. The points aren’t that hard to accumulate really. I mainly bought staples we needed like razors, shaving gel, vitamins etc to rack up the points. I was really shocked I had reached the top tier so soon.
Can’t wait to try the foundation. Thanks again for the recommendation! 😀

    1. I just HAD to have that Lise Watier palette as soon as I tested it and saw the colours. I didn’t even hesitate! 😛 I’m planning on doing a review soon so people can grab it before it’s gone since it’s LE.

  4. I am not a huge fan of that Maybelline foundation. It doesn’t totally set on me (even when using powder) and it transfers. I’m just trying to use up the bottle so I can put the pump on my Fit Me foundation (which I like much better).

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh no! That’s no good. I heard the concealer doesn’t set properly. I really wanted to try the corresponding concealer because Maybelline concealers typically work for me – have you tried the concealer?

  5. The Lise Watier palette looks incredibly awesome as the palette features so many hues where you could easily make golden, rose or neutral themed makeup look and the cool banana shade is perfect to use as a inner corner highlighter which could ideally finish off your makeup look like a pro

    1. It REALLY is! I was so amazed by all the possibilities. There isn’t a single shade in that palette that I wouldn’t use. I was SO pleased with it – it’s like I palette that I would design myself! 😀

  6. All of these products for free – that’s good going! I love the look of the Rimmel lipstick you selected – I’m a sucker for Rimmel. I hope you like the mascara, I have it and I like it, it probably doesn’t curl lashes as much as it claims to but I don’t mind 🙂

  7. I guess this is what comes of not paying attention — didn’t know there was a redemption event! Luckily I don’t need to replenish anything right now but I need to keep on top of at least this one thing, lol. Good haul!

  8. I’m always so impressed by your free SDM hauls – I need to download the app but I don’t shop there that often.
I’m totally coveting the CG roses palette too, I’ve heard good things!
I picked up one of the Oh Sugar! balms a few weeks ago in Petal (I think?). It’s very sheer with almost no colour so that was a bit of a mistake. I do find them moisturizing and similar in some ways to the Fresh version but definitely a thinner formula. I always found the Fresh ones to be over-priced though so I’m not sure I can justify buying those again.
    Looking forward to your reviews!

    1. I do a lot of my shopping at Shoppers since there are so many locations close to me – I don’t tend to shop at Walmart or Superstore.
I tried the Oh Sugar balm and I like the level of pigmentation on this shade but I think it’s because it’s a slightly deeper tone. Yes, I agree the formula is thinner compared to the Fresh ones. I did always love the tube design of the Fresh ones though – metal and the screw cap!

      1. Fresh does have great packaging for sure. The more I use the CG version the less I like it – any moisture it leaves behind is gone in about an hour. Think I’ll stick with my Lipsmackers! 😉

  9. Haha – your clutter running dangerously low. That covergirl palette looks lovely, reminds me of my make up revolution dupe for UD Naked 3! I hate it when they put the wrong shades in – once asked for a MAC foundation in London and they gave me NC45, when I went back they were like are you sure you didn’t ask for this – I responded with a point to my face!

    1. Haha MAC is notorious for putting in the wrong item! I’ve had that happen so many times with them. I always check now. I think whoever does their stock must mix things up in their drawers. Or they’re just ditzes. 😛 Don’t joke though, I had a MAC MUA straight face try to convince me I was NC40… I’m like um… I’m normally NC20 and I know it’s summer time but I’m not THAT tanned!

  10. Yay!!! Another haul lol!!!😍 wohooo!! I hope you enjoy the concealer!!!! It blends like a dream love love love it!♡♡ I have never heard of that eyeshadow brand!? But the colors look incredible, trust me you’ll get addicted to palettes in no time lol. I have become addicted myself in less than a year! I went from 0 eyeshadow palettes to maybe 15 in less than a year lol! 😅 I do own one urban decay lipstick I can’t remember the shade but it’s like a true pink. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on that foundation, I’ve been eyeing it forever but it’s just too darn pricey !! I’m afraid that it will be a let down and I’ll be stuck with it:( hopefully one day I find a nice coupon and get it at a steal 😛 Lol Oooooo I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with that cover girl palette! It’s amazing, well at least I’ve heard and seen on YouTube and all lol. I reeaaally want that Rose gold one and the other one can’t remember the name of it but it’s not the nudes one. They just look super buttery smooth! 🙂

    1. Lise Watier is a Canadian makeup brand! One of the few we have actually. Her stuff is usually really good – I’d say on par with Stila in terms of quality.
Wait for a sale on that foundation. I haven’t tried the foundation OR the concealer yet. I can’t test out TOO many new products back to back or all at once or else my skin will FREAK OUT.
The CoverGirl palette comes in 3: Rose, Nudes and Golden – you must be thinking of the Golden one! That would have been my 2nd choice!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Ooo no wonder! I don’t own any stila but I’ve swatched their stuff and its good:) 👍👍 hopefully it goes on sale soon! I’m probably the only person who hasn’t tried it lol! Tell me about it my skin is the same lol, can’t wait for your thoughts on them though:D Yesss!! I’m talking about the golden one!!😍

  11. Ooh I didn’t realize that the Covergirl tinted balms were supposed to be a dupe for the fresh balms! Now I need some O_O
Is…is it undesirable to bring out yellow tones in ones skin?! What the actual fudge?! I have Rapture though! And it’s lovely! But bordering on “too cool” for me so I was also contemplating getting Liar. I’m interested to hear what you think of Rapture.
Holy cow, that Lise Watier palette is gorgeous! I might just be sucker for mustard shades though 🙂
Free hauls are the best hauls!
I love that you linked to so many other blogs in this post, now I have lots of new reading material 🙂

    1. Yeah I have no clue what that MUA was talking about. I’m not jaundiced, jeez. I haven’t tested Rapture yet but plan to this week – I hope it won’t be too cool for school! (sorry I had to)
I’ve been wearing the Lise Watier palette to test it out, so far so good and YES that one shade is really similar to MAC Uninterrupted! Just slightly lighter. 😀
Glad you enjoy the links – I like to share… I’m always on the hunt for new reading material myself. Any blogs you love that I might not know about?

      1. Bwahaha! Too funny. Im interested in hearing what you think of Rapture, I can’t ever decide quite how I feel about it.
I’m always on the hunt for new reading material too! I suspect that you already follow most of the same blogs that I follow but here are a few I’ve been particularly enjoying lately:
https://headtofoot.wordpress.com she has very cool taste in nail polish. https://swatchbible.wordpress.com/ she does a lot of cool indie swatches. This is not makeup related but everyone should be reading The Blogess: http://thebloggess.com/ . I have a whole list of recommendations for blogs that are outside of the wordpress bubble as well. I need to start mentioning more blogs in my posts too though. Or do a “favorite bloggers and youtubers” post or something.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I wore Rapture for the first time today and I LOVE the colour! I doesn’t lean too cool on me actually. I find it right smack dab in the middle of neutral for me. 🙂 Maybe the MUA wasn’t on crack…
I’ve never heard of those 2 blogs so THANK YOU for them! 😀 I’ve followed them all! Yes please, do a post on your favourites – I love those posts that are link-fests.

          1. It definitely sounds like you got a crazy MUA! I’m glad it ended up being a shade you like! I think it’s one of those really versatile shades that is dark enough to make a statement and light enough to almost just be a MLBB kind of shade.

            Like

  12. You have such great taste in lipstick. I would try all of those. Can’t wait for the reviews 😀
Super irritating that they gave you the wrong color of the UD concealer. I think I have light neutral as well. Can’t wait to hear what you think of this one!
