Trash Stash: February 2016

And in a blink of an eye, February is gone!

Here’s what I used up this month.

trash201602_6
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter – $46 for 226g (Kiehl’s stores and online)
I reviewed the Coriander version of this last year where I mentioned that I’ll likely get around to opening up this one next winter (ie now) and true to my word, I opened this on January 2nd and finished it in February!  I have this tub in the limited edition Craig & Karl design but Kiehl’s sells this scent in their regular line / packaging – the soy milk & honey scent is a very soft, comforting smell.  I felt this version of the body butter felt more hydrating compared to the Coriander one – I wonder if the ingredients are slightly different depending on the scent? It’s very luxurious feeling but quite expensive and only lasted me a little over a month – I may repurchase as a treat.

TRESemme 4+4 Extra Hold Hairspray  – $8 for 311g (Sally Beauty Supply)
I’ve only seen this formula at Sally Beauty Supply – it’s different from the regular TRESemme that is sold at drugstores. The scent is lighter and the hold is stronger – I use this to tame my flyaways. Unfortunately, mine had a wonky nozzle that would get clogged up all the time. I constantly had to run it under warm water to unclog it. I found this on clearance for $2 so I bought 2 cans. I hope the other can doesn’t have the nozzle problem.

Original Cocunut Source Shower gel – £1.15 for 250ml (Boots, Tesco, Asda, etc)
I received this last year in my UK / Canada swap with Nicola. She had indicated this was one of her favourite items and wow, she’s not kidding! It has a fantastic authentic coconut scent and leaves the skin feeling soft and nourished. I’d say the only weakness of this product is that it doesn’t lather a ton. I can’t believe what a bargain this is for UKers. It’s quite expensive for me to buy online though.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Lise Watier SUN SMART Universal UV Shield SPF 30 – $39 for 30ml (Shoppers Drug Mart and Lise Watier online)
At one point, this was my HG sunscreen but I’ve since found one I prefer more (the Consonant Perfect Sunscreen mentioned below). This one is still a great daily sunscreen that looks invisible under makeup. It does leave a slight white cast but it’s not noticeable in the winter months.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe
trash201602_4
Muji Sensitive Skin Cleansing Oil – $14.50 for 200ml (Muji stores)
I can’t deny it anymore – this cleansing oil has shot up to the top of the list of my favourite cleansing oils! It is effective, gentle, and inexpensive. The first ingredient is olive oil. This bottle lasted me 4 months with nightly use – read more about it here.  The only downfall of this product is that it’s not readily available everywhere yet. I hope they will open more stores soon!
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Paula’s Choice Clear Regular Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution With 2% Salicylic Acid – $26 USD for 118ml (Paula’s Choice online)
I use this as a preventative measure for hormonal breakouts so I use this for a few nights each month only. This bottle has lasted me at least a year. The instructions says to pour this onto a cotton and apply over the face but I prefer pouring a quarter size onto my palm and patting it on. I mainly concentrate this on my t-zone.  With our current conversion, this $26 USD bottle now costs $36 CAD! 😡
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201602_9
Mary Kay TimeWise Targeted-Action Eye Revitalizer – $45 for 10ml (discontinued)
I use this nightly just on my eyelids to keep them from being puffy. I only have one more of this left in my stash! Panic time! 😥
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: No (Wah!)

C+M Intensive 3 in 1 Eye Repair Serum Roll-on – $5.30 for 10ml (Sasa.com)
And while I’m at it, I’ll get rid of this useless eye serum roll-on. I found this on Sasa.com and thought, why not, it’s cheap and looks decent. It smells weird and doesn’t do diddly.  It also oddly doesn’t absorb into the skin.
Stash worthiness: 2/10     Repurchase: No
trash201602_10
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye – $42 for 15ml (Kiehl’s stores and online)
One of my HG eye creams. It is lightweight but very hydrating – my concealer looks great on top of this. The biggest thing for me is that it doesn’t cause milia under the eye area. This tube lasted me around 8 months.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Consonant Skincare bar soap in lavender (Not shown) – $5 each (Consonant Skincare stores and online)
This was a nice bar soap that was very gentle on the skin. The scent is very soothing too. It’s a bit on the pricey side and the bar lasted me about 2 months.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201602_8
Rexall brand face blotting paper – $4 for 100 sheets (Rexall)
This stuff was basically like tissue paper… a slightly thicker, more premium tissue paper, but still just tissue paper! I typically had to use 2 pieces per blot since it was so useless. I did like the black pouch this product came in – I’m going to keep it for other blotting papers.
Stash worthiness: 3/10     Repurchase: No

Tweezerman Folding Lash Comb – $12 each (drugstores)
Weird to see a lash comb in an empties post, heh. I’m not sure if it’s apparent in the photo above, but the teeth of this one is falling out. I keep having to push them back in, and if I’m not careful, they poke at my eyes. Ouch.  I really like this lash comb – it’s the sharpest of any that I’ve tried but the teeth are just ever so slightly farther apart compared to the Shishida Seishindo lash comb that I love a bit more.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

LUSH The Sacred Truth Fresh Face Mask – $7.95 for 60g (LUSH stores)
I got this and used it up all in the month of February. On the label it reads that it was made on February 5th and the expiration was February 22nd. I did a review of this here. I got 6 uses out of this pot (I marked the side of the pot with a marker each time I used it) which works out to be approx $1.33 per mask, so compared to single-use sheet masks, it’s really not that expensive. This is my first LUSH mask and I’m sold! I’ll definitely try more. I’ll be saving this container to be returned to LUSH in exchange for a free face mask (need 4 more containers).
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

Anna Sui Lip Balm – $24 for 16g  (Select Shoppers Drug Mart and Hudson’s Bay)
This isn’t just a pretty face! This lip balm is one of my all time favourites. It’s a non-waxy, non-sticky, non-glossy balm that really penetrates and hydrates my lips. It has a light rose scent and no flavour, and it’s made in Japan.  I keep this right beside my laptop and have been using it daily for the past couple of years. I do have another pot of this but it’s in the limited edition Minnie Mouse tin so I’m undecided if I should use it. I guess I could always keep the tin as a keepsake after I’m done. The biggest downside to this product is having to dig your finger into the tin.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Dr Hauschka Lip Care Stick – $16 for 4.9g (Select Shoppers Drug Mart, Hudson’s Bay, health food stores)
My HG lipbalm for the purse. This was recommended to me on MakeUpAlley years ago and I’m so glad I heeded their recommendation. It’s all natural with key ingredients of castor oil, rose hip fruit extract, jojoba oil and beeswax. I find it both hydrating (penetrating) and protective (occlusive).  It’s a bit pricey but a tube of this lasts me around 6 months. I’ve already opened my new tube of this.

Revlon PhotoReady Concealer in 003 Light / Medium – $13 for 3.2g (drugstores)
I love this concealer!  It made my top 15 of 2015 list. It’s pigmented without being cakey or dry looking. It has a creamy consistency that makes it perfect for concealing larger areas (I mainly use this around my nose and on my chin – I’ve tried it under my eyes but it does crease there) – it also applies well on top of makeup for touch-ups. The colour match for me is spot on. This tube lasted me just over a year and I’ve already purchased a replacement.

Sample / Travel size

trash201602_13
Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Serum – I used this under my eyes at night before my eye cream. It’s a nice silicone based serum that makes the area smooth and plumped up. I have the full size of this.

Consonant Skincare The Perfect Sunscreen SPF 30 – This tinted physical sunscreen wears really well under makeup. I have been using the full size bottle of this since last summer (read more here).  One odd thing is that nowhere does it state the expiry of this sunscreen – I inquired at the store and they advised 1 year from date of opening. I find that a bit sketchy. I understand physical sunscreens are more stable and the vacuum pump maintains the product better, but there should still be an expiry indicated.

Klorane Shampoo with Flax Fibre – Klorane was doing a big promotion of their products a while back and I received a few products to sample. I haven’t been impressed with any of them. This shampoo is really average and I didn’t notice the volumizing effects it claims.

Peter Thomas Roth Mega-Rich Body Lotion – got this from a hotel while on vacation and have been carrying it in my purse to use as hand cream. It’s nice and light and has a citrus scent. Apparently this product isn’t available in Canada, what gives?

Have you tried any of these products? What products have you used up lately?

    1. I go through phases with Kiehl’s. Sometimes I think they’re so pricey for what they are, but I’ve pretty much loved everything I’ve ever gotten from there… so there’s that. I’m trying to think what I absolutely didn’t like from there… oh yes, their BB cream, it broke me out. I was sad they discontinued their tinted moisturizer in favour of the BB cream, blugh.

  1. Ooh, look at all those products gone! So satisfying, haha.

Seems like you finished a bunch of really good products this month, a lot of them had high stash worthiness and you would rebuy! I’m always looking for a good lip balm and both the Anna Sui and the Dr. Haushka lip balms sound intriguing.

    1. I got the Anna Sui lip balm from the Bay! 🙂 The downtown location has a cute little Anna Sui kiosk downstairs in the Beauty Underground – you should check it out! They have Becca and Vincent Longo there too.

  2. Wow u finished up so much!!! It takes me forever to finish body butter. I think I just need to stick to 1 lotion & 1 body butter for a bit, & stop rotating for the scent! 😅 Loved reading this review!

    1. I think I just apply a LOT of product haha! I am actually 2/3 through ANOTHER body butter right now haha! I like to apply so much that my body is SLICK with body butter. It’s been dry here! I do tend to stick to just one item at a time for body moisturizer though.

  3. The Paula’s Choice one sounds like something I’ll need to investigate. I figured being pregnant would mean less break outs, but boy was I wrong. Now it seems like I get them all freaking month long! That Lush Mask is def on my list as well 🙂

    1. Oh man, pregnancy hormones – I don’t envy you! Is your hair really full and luscious though? I really like Paula’s Choice BHA and AHA. If you’re in the market for a good exfoliant, try her weekly 10% AHA resurfacing exfoliant – it’s my favourite product of hers.

      1. No my hair is just as suck as it’s always been…. only the vitamins are making it grow faster I think. I’ve got a good exfoliant, it’s my daily cleanser that I think is killing me. I’m thinking of trying something from Michael Todd, have you tried anything from the line?

        1. Eh, I tried the Michael Todd eye serum and it was really meh. I bought it along with the little massaging eye vibrator thingy:

Total gimmick. It was at the height of all the Michael Todd social media campaign. I haven’t tried anything else but I wasn’t impressed based on the serum.

    1. Yes I’ve been a busy bee! 😉 I’ve been much better at only using one item at a time and focusing on fishing up things that are opened instead of opening new things or buying new items. It’s been a whole new experience for me!

  4. You should try the Lush “Cupcake” mask. it is so nice. It smells like chocolate and leaves your skin feeling soft. Also leaves me with a nice glow. It’s also fun if you put it on and don’t tell others around you and jump out and scare them because it is so dark brown like chocolate, people aren’t expecting it LOL.

    1. I was eyeing that – I love the idea of a chocolate smelling mask, however, it does contain peppermint oil which I’m sensitive to. I could ask if they could let me test it first. Haha, I scare my SO all the time whenever I put on a face mask… especially the sheet ones since I look like Michael Myers from Halloween! 😛

      1. Ask them for a sample! I get so many samples from Lush all the time. I have highly sensitive skin and they are usually pretty generous with their samples. I have a ridiculous amount of food allergies and since most of their products are made with natural food items, its necessary for me to try before purchasing.

    1. Yes I think Muji sells in the US. I’ve visited Muji in NYC. Here’s a list of where they’re located:
      http://www.muji.com/storelocator/?c=us&lang=EN&header=gl
(but nothing near you, I’m afraid!) I think they do online shopping:

I used to use a lash comb like that from Coastal Scents, but I like the foldable ones – they’re handy for travel. Morphe stuff looks good though – so cheap too! They do really remind me of Coastal Scents.

      1. Ooo yay!!!! 😊 thanks for the link!!! 😊😊 oh okay I see:) yeah I bet if you’d travel with the unfoldable one it would break! I’ve never tired coastal scents but I’ve browsed their website 🙂

  5. Great bunch of empties. Love the artwork on that LE kiehls jar.
You have Muji…very unfair, I really wish they would open a store here. the cleanser sounds lovely and they have so much lovely and convenient storage stuff as well.

    1. We only got Muji recently, but yes, it’s a great brand! I first encountered the brand years ago in Ireland, then in NYC and Hong Kong which travelling. SO happy now it’s in our city! If only Daiso (the Japanese dollar store) would open up here I’d be happy!

      1. I am secretly hoping Muji will open here soon. I loved the London store, but I just couldn’t fit anything else in my bags 😉 I don’t know Daiso, but it sounds amazing!
