Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

I learned about this product from – who else – Ingrid. 😛  I’m constantly on the hunt for miracle products to cancel out my dark under eye circles. The Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector sounded like it could fit the bill:

I bought this during Hauluary, at $35 for 4.5g pot. Becca is sold at Sephora and select Hudson’s Bay stores – I bought mine from Hudson’s Bay.

I was skeptical when I first started researching this product. I’d read lots of rave reviews on it but what really pushed me over the edge was the perfect score it received from Paula’s Choice. Becca describes this product as:

This color correcting, under eye brightener works to eradicate under eye darkness by brightening and evening skin tone. It preps skin for smooth, even concealer coverage and doesn’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles. Infused with ultra-fine light-reflecting illuminators, this rich, luminescent cream is like backlighting for your concealer, adding light from behind.

All I’m going to say is: YES YES YES! It does what it claims to do! 😮 It’s still shocking to me when a product actually does that!

It’s a light salmon-toned cream concealer that acts as both a corrector and a primer for my under eye area.  This corrector only comes in one shade.

With the addition of this one product, I’ve been able to make a lot of my “meh” concealers work so much better for the under eye area. Since starting to use this corrector, I’ve been consistently using it (probably should have chose this for my Project Focus 10, huh!) and this is what the pot looks like now – look at how much I’ve used! 🙂

To apply this, I pat it on using my ring finger. I prefer using my fingers than a brush since the warmth of my fingers help to melt the product into my skin better.  I apply a thin layer of the corrector over my normal eye cream – then I apply whichever concealer on top and blend.  I’ve not found an under eye corrector to work as well as this!  If the Surratt eye lash curler was the best purchase of 2016 so far, this follows closely behind that.

I think what makes the Becca work best for me is its milky quality – it lends a highlighted quality to the under eye area. The formula is also creamier so it doesn’t make the under eye area look dry or crepey.

In terms of packaging format, the pot serves its purpose – I’m not sure if this product could work in a stick format, which would be preferable.

Despite Becca being an Australian company, this product is made in the USA.

Pros:
• Creamy without being greasy
• Does not crease
• High pigment
• Brightening effect without shimmer
• Smoothing effect

Cons:
• Only available in one shade*
• Pricey

Stash worthiness: 9/10

* I noticed that Becca has recently released a variety of corrector colours called Backlight Targeted Colour Correctors:

They’re not called under eye products – I’m not sure how the formulas differ – but the peach and orange shades would be fantastic for darker skin tones.

    1. I’m around NC20-25 in MAC, my skin isn’t too olive toned so the salmon shade works. I would recommend you check out the peachy shade. It’s not as BAM! in real life. 🙂 I compared the ingredient list and the first 5 ingredients are the same – I’d imagine the formula would be suitable for under the eye area. 🙂

  4. I’ve been looking into correctors in the last little while. Haven’t heard too much about the ones from Becca, but I’ll have to do some more research into these!
    The formula of this sounds lovely! Do you find it helps to correct the colour of your under eye circles (if you have any) better than if you were to use only concealer?

Yes, it most definitely helps with correcting dark circles – I’ve tested using the same concealer with or without the corrector and I’ve found that with the corrector 1) the area is more lifted / highlighted looking 2) the concealer lasts longer, without creasing or fading 3) I need to use less concealer.😀
      The other corrector I’ve been very curious about is the Armani Master Corrector – I’ve heard the orange shade is amazing. It’s $39 so only $4 more than this but I think the tube is teeny tiny – I also read that you only need a pinpoint size per use. Have you looked into that?

      1. Good to know about the Becca corrector…I’ll definitely have to check it out in stores!
        I have heard about the Armani corrector…the price scared me off, but I guess you’re right, if you only need a tiny amount of it then it probably works out to be the same.

    1. Yes I’ve found it to help prevent creasing too! The few mediocre concealers I’ve had tend to crease on me when worn alone, but when applied on top of the Becca corrector, they wear beautifully! I was shocked. I used to wear an eye shadow eye lid primer on my under eye area to help combat the concealer creasing – see if that will help you.

        I have yet to try the primer underneath the eye idea. Friend of mine swears by it, but somehow I always forget when applying makeup.

    At least I was right on this one. 😉 The brightening effect is really nice even on my fair skin … At first I had the great idea to apply it alone … when I looked in the mirror at work I had 2 bright white circles 😂

  9. Wow, you both are enablers! Have you tried using this without a concealer? I’m really intrigued but the idea of using TWO products instead of one has the cheap-o in me coming out.

    1. Yes I’ve tried it without a concealer on top, it’s too obvious looking on me. I’m all for short cuts but this is worth doing the 2 steps / products – correct, then conceal = under eye perfection!

        2. Kaily, if you’re looking for a one-step dark circle corrector, try the one from NYX. It has a mix of peachy and flesh tone pigment. I’ve used it both by itself and with my normal concealer on top (for more coverage) and it works either way. Plus it’s only like $6!

  11. Okay thanks alot now I want this product!!!!!!😅😅😅😅😅 I’ve been eyeing it for a while and I mean a whileeeeee.. but never seem to purchase it. I always find myself reading mixed reviews which is why I never get it but I think your review convinced me lol, although I love my tarte cc .. this one seems like it will cover and conceal much better due to the shade lol. Glad I’m Fair if not I doubt this product would work for me lol. I looooove how you said it doesn’t crease! I’ve heard that alot of undereye cc’s make concealers crease .. my tarte one creases a little -.- I’ll try and snag this up during the sephora sale!:D

    1. I think what made me love it even more was that it made that UD Naked concealer actually WORK for me. I’m doing a review of that soon… sorry I know you love it but it’s such a fail for me! 😦
      This one is SO smoothing, it’s amazing. I hope it will work for you as well as it has for me! (no guarantees though… you know how it is, everyone is individual! 😉 )

  14. A miracle product! That’s amazing. Sounds like it’s well worth the price tag. I don’t think I’ve tried any Becca – nor any undereye correctors – but I will file this away for future reference, ha!

    1. I like the idea of an under eye corrector but I always found them difficult to layer underneath concealers. So happy with this find!

      1. I’ve seen this before too! Either my undereye circles are way less intense than everyone else’s or I’m not using enough concealer. No way would that ever work for me. But it seems like the people using lipstick to color correct don’t look crazy when it’s all said and done. It’s probably magic.

        1. I TRIED using orange corrector (Maybelline Color Tattoo in Fierce and Tangy) and I looked like a fool! I think it works for people who are darker skin toned or more olive with BLUE undertone dark circles. But yeah, probably magic.
