Sephora VIB Shopping List April 2016 Edition

It’s that time of the year again. The time when desires take over common sense, when the line between “Needs” and “Wants” blur – it’s Sephora VIB sale time! 😆

I know that in previous years, my shopping pattern during Sephora VIB sale has been this: I do some online browsing, mentally prepare a list, then I brave the crowds to go to a Sephora store and pick up the bulk of what I want. Then I come home and do some more online browsing, read some blogs and watch some haul videos to see what other people bought. And then around the final couple of days of the sale, I go nuts and buy a bunch more stuff online. I can’t be the only one does this?

But I won’t be getting the tote because this year I’ve decided to make just ONE order, and shop online only so I can also take advantage of ebates.  Here’s my list, rated with % likelihood that I’ll buy during this sale.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard $36
I’m in dire straits right now with my under eye concealer situation so this is truly a NEED. I’ll be doing a review on my current concealer next week and you’ll know what I mean.
Tarte Tartelette Tease Palette $25
Been wanting to dip my toes into either Tarte or Too Faced and this little palette seems to be a good starting point.

BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Natural $30
I’ve heard nothing but raves for this and I’m going through my night lip balm quickly so I would like to give this a whirl.
Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops in 03 Morning Light $19
I always make a point of buying a Sephora branded item during VIB sales. Their private label brand is often overlooked but they have some amazing products at reasonable prices.  I originally wanted to try the Beauty Amplifier Afterglow Primer & Luminizer but it’s out of stock, so hopefully I’ll like this.

Viseart Eyeshadiow Palette in 01 Neutral Matte $100
I just saw on beatfacefridayy that Viseart released 6 pan palettes called Theory Palettes – the whole line can be viewed here. THOSE appeal to me much more than a 12 pan… I’m hoping the 6 pan will become available at Sephora eventually!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light $52
I don’t have an immediate need for a pressed powder but this has been on my wist list for ages. I’m thinking possibly of getting the tiny travel size one to use on my trip (but per gram, it’s SUCH a rip off!)

Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette $55
I’m a bit paletted out for now. And while this one comes with high recommendations, I find the packaging to be a bit large and unwieldy for my liking. Between this and the Viseart, I prefer the Viseart.
Nars Audacious lipstick in Anita or Vanessa $39
Still lemming this, yup.

I’m really happy with my current foundation situation so this is on the back burner for now.

Bésame Boudoir Long Hair Finishing Powder Brush $62
This caught my eye while I was browsing online a few weeks back. It’s such a weird brush but I want it! It looks SO soft! Check out the review by Dustin Hunter.

I might be a little broken? Only 4 items that I’m definitely 100% purchasing! I think part of the reason is that when I went back into my Lemmings post, I realized that I’ve actually knocked off quite a few items on there during my January haulage.  Most of the items still remaining on the list aren’t available from Sephora.  Trust me, I browsed the Sephora site through and through to find stuff to buy!

I don’t have any immediate need for skincare, and since this VIB sale is 15% while the Fall one is 20%, I’m willing to wait another 6 months to get the additional discount on things I don’t NEED. 😉  Lastly, I’m keenly aware that I’ll be hauling like a mad woman when I’m in Japan (Low-Buy rules do not apply when I’m out of the country! I didn’t make up that rule, agirlwithpinkcheeks did!) so I’m going to show some restrain at present time. 😛

Also, there’s another Optimum Points redemption event this Saturday at Shoppers Drug Mart – I feel like they’re more frequent this year?  Can you believe that I have enough points for the top tier again! I’m going to save my points though, so I won’t be redeeming this time around.  I do have a separate wish list for items I can redeem for at Shoppers, including:

    1. I’ve been conditioned to save (mostly) my Sephora purchases to 3x a year: the 2 VIB sales, and the $20 off $50 coupon. It’ll be a good challenge for me perhaps next year to NOT buy a single thing during VIB… wonder if I could?

    1. Yes, that powder brush is really unnecessary (but really, what makeup really IS?) I just want it, because. 😛 I’m SO excited for the bundle of goodies!!! Hourglass dupe? WOW, now I HAVE to get the Hourglass then! I can’t wait! 😀

  3. Aren’t you currently using the UD concealer right now? I’ve always loved the NARS concealer, but my dark under eye situation has been more severe than usual as of late, and I’m finding the NARS concealer is not doing the best job covering them (hence me turning to correctors). Hopefully it will work better for your purposes.
    I just learned about the Sephora luminizing drops in a YouTube video yesterday! They sound so appealing…but part of me is afraid I might end up just chucking it out like I did with the Benefit High Beam.
    Hah, I did the same thing as you with scouring the website to find things to buy. Good call on restraining yourself now so that you can go all out in Japan!

    1. You are correct, I’m currently using the UD Naked concealer… it is all kinds of wrong for me! 😦
      Maybe adding a corrector will help with the Nars – I had the Maybelline Fit Me concealer which people say is similar to the Nars concealer – I found the Fit Me wasn’t covering my dark circles enough. BUT, when I added the Becca corrector, it made the Fit Me work SO well. I was shocked.
      I’m kind of waffling on that Sephora luminizing drop now… I really had my heart more set on the Afterglow primer thing so maybe I’ll wait until that is back in stock.
      I’m trying to apply a BIT of discipline to my Japan hauling so I’m doing some research on Japanese brands, stores and specific items (and prices) I might be interested in getting there. Posts to come in early May! I leave the end of May for 2 weeks… ahhh so excited!

        Hmm, good to know…I’m definitely curious about that Becca corrector now, plus I like the packaging better than doe-foot applicators.
        Always better to do research beforehand! I went to Asia without having done any research on products and it was beyond overwhelming. Man, your vacation is coming up so soon…so excited to see what you get there, and to hear about your trip! We’ve never booked a trip so last minute but we’re 90% sure we’re going to Toronto second/third week of May, although I’m trying to convince the SO we should go to Asia to get cheap wedding stuff…I don’t know!

            Heh, yes the flights would cancel the cost savings on shopping, BUT we would get a vacation out of it anyways. Not that Toronto wouldn’t be fun (I’ve never been), but it’s not as exotic, ya know? 😉

  4. Awesome list! I’m so curious about the Nars foundation. I keep adding it to my cart but then end up taking it out. Hopefully Sephora starts to carry those smaller Viseart palettes! They all look SO pretty.

    1. I’ve heard lots of great reviews on that Nars foundation but I’ll hold off for now so I can use through some of my current foundation stash! And YES, I am crossing my fingers for those 6 pans Visearts to come to Sephora!!!

  6. I’m not going to get anything from Sephora, but I don’t blame you for taking advantage of the Ebates! Plus I’m sure it would be crazy busy in the store! I’ve got to agree that the packaging of the KVD palette is quite large. I don’t mind it, but I totally get why someone would.

      I’m thinking if I end up getting the Viseart Neutral matte palette, I don’t REALLY need the Kat Von D one – just how many matte palettes do I need? 😛

      1. I agree, a lot of people are asking me to buy it and compare the two on my channel and I want to cause I know it would be popular I just KNOW from looking at it they are too similar and I don’t want to spend the $80, haha. But yeah, one or the other and you’ll be set 🙂

  7. Surprised to see all the eyeshadow palettes on your list! There are some great ones out there at the moment, though – can’t blame you.

    I didn’t realize there was a SDM redemption event this weekend! I didn’t get an email 😦 They’ve taken to calling me on the Friday, though. It’s kind of weird and annoyign. JUST SEND AN EMAIL, geez. I am dying to get my hands on one of the new Guerlain nail polishes; was waiting for an HBC sale but SDM redemption will do, too!

    I think I’m skipping the Sephora sale this time. Don’t need anything and they don’t have the Guerlain polish yet.

    You need that NARS lipstick, btw.

    1. I found out about the redemption at Shoppers when the SA told me about it (I was there to pick up the Lip Smacker lip balms LOL). I see it’s in the flyer now:

      I’m surprised at all the palettes too. I’d say 2016 has been the year of palettes for me. I’m holding back from getting the super large scale palettes – just keeping them small. I’ll probably go back to quads soon.\

      I haven’t looked at the Guerlain polishes – anything special about them? I know the bottles are cute and that’s about it!

      Ugh, I can’t decide about the Nars lipstick – I worry I have too many lipsticks on the go right now and they’ll spoil. Also, still unsure which shade is better (they’re SO similar) I might go to the Bay and have them apply it on me. I have some HBC points to redeem too.

        AFAIK there’s nothing special about the Guerlain polish apart from the bottle! But I loooove the bottle cap and will not be splurging on a new bottle of Mitsouko or L’Heure Bleue edp anytime soon, so the nail polish will do. I totally forgot about HBC points! I could probably go get it with my gift card!

        And yeah, I had a hard time picking an Audacious lipstick, too. The colors are similar so it helps a lot to see them in store. I guess you can test drive them that way, too.

  8. First of all I just put the Viseart Neutral Mattes back in the 100% category !😈
    The packaging of the Tarte Tease palette is so cardboard cheap, I would buy The Tartelette in Bloom way before … If you STILL go with the Tease at least pickup the set at 30$ with the Mascara & the Tarteist Lip Paint ! 😏
    You know I LOVE my Buxom White Russian … Katie & Pink Lady are great choice too !!! You should also consider Nars Chelsea Girls or the STUNNING Marc Jacobs Sugar Sugar or Moonglow or go with Sephora Favorites Give Me Some NUDE Lip😋

    1. Oh there’s a set for the Tartelette? I don’t mind cardboard packaging… the Bloom palette is MASSIVE! More isn’t necessary always MORE, ya know? 😉 I don’t see the Tease set listed on Sephora!

    Great picks! I have the Hourglass powder and at first I liked it but I use it as a very subtle highlighter now. Makes me greasy. 😔

    Can’t wait to see what you ended up getting. I lose all self-control once I get in-store. #buyallthethings 😉

  10. The Nars foundation is really good. Only reason I don’t but it is the price tag. And I loooooove the KVD palette.

    I was hoping to get the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette but it’s out of stock online & doesn’t hit stores til after the sale is over. So I’m going to get one of the Hourglass Ambient Strobe highlighters for sure. Not sure what else. I also got a 20% everything (including high end) coupon from Ulta I need to use before Sunday. Gonna grab a new Hoola bronzer as my current one has hit serious pan.

    1. I wonder if Sephora purposely make new releases “out of stock” so they don’t have to sell them discounted right away. I know some stores pull all of their new stuff off the floor when they have store-wide sales.

  11. I am holding out hope that the Urban Decay Naked One and Done will come in stock befor the sale ends. Might pick up Chelsea Girls lip gloss though, I have heard so many good things about it.

    1. Oh I’ve not heard of UD Naked One and Done – I just looked it up, interesting concept! I need to stay up to date on beauty releases haha! I haven’t paid much attention to Nars lip glosses – I recall they had a weird plastic smell to them so I tuned them out.

      1. The powders really are worth it-just too much for my skin type at the moment. The blushes though are great for me and they have the highlighting powder swirled in. Go figure. I may just pick up another Nars concealer too. Love that stuff.

    1. Some people only use the Nars on the face, not the eyes, and some people only use it under the eyes. The product copy doesn’t specifically state it’s mean for under the eyes but the key features are about it not creasing, diminishing fine lines and eliminating look of fatigue. So my assumption is that it’s meant for under eyes. *shrug*
      Once Fall comes around and VIB sale is 20%, that Besame brush is moving over to the 100% likelihood of purchase! 😀

  17. Great picks!! I put through my Sephora order this morning for the VIB sale! It’s definitely a highlight haul (and one blush) just as I predicted it would be… I’ll be posting my picks when they arrive next week! So excited!!

    I’ve been eying up that Tarte palette too… It looks beautiful! I haven’t really tried Tarte eyeshadows yet so it looks like a great way to test them without committing to a bigger, pricier palette!

  18. Such a short list indeed!:P I bet you are going to add more items aren’t you lol! I have white Russian and I love it!! I also have the nars concealer and the anita lipstick! Sooo recommend the lipstick it’s such a great product ! Though I’ve heard the new bite beauty amuse bouche lipsticks are very similar if not same formula as the nars audacious. And they are much more affordable you should get one!;) I also want the kat von d palette it looks gorgeous 😍

    1. I made my order last night – bought a few items for friends. MOSTLY stuck to my list. You’ll see! Of course, there’s still another 6 days of the sale left so never say never! 😉 Oh I want to try the new Bite lipsticks – if they’re the same as the Nars then I should go for the Bite provided they have a shade I want!
