This week is dedicated to all the beauty items that haven’t worked for me. I didn’t purposely plan this but when I assessed my upcoming posts for the week, I realized every one of them scored less than a 5 on my Stash Worthiness scale. These posts will be filled with rants and possibly some snark. You’ve been warned! First up:
The official name of this UD concealer is Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer:
I have the shade Light Neutral. I redeemed for this item during the Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points event in February, so it didn’t cost me anything, but it normally retails for $35 CAD for 5ml of product.
I didn’t really plan on getting this concealer so soon. I wanted the Nars Creamy Concealer originally but since Shoppers doesn’t carry Nars, and I had points to redeem, I figured I’d give this one a try. This concealer claims:
• Ultra lightweight
• Luminous, demi-matte finish
• Looks like second skin
• Buildable coverage
• NEVER settles into fine lines no matter how much you apply (caps emphasis taken from website)
I take that last bullet as a challenge! 😛
The first day I wore this, I thought I was imagining things – when I got to work, I noticed that my under eye area looked positively orange. I asked my coworker and she politely said, no no it looks fine! But I knew better, the concealer was oxidizing on me. The colour appeared fine initially but when it dried down, it turns at least 2 shades darker / more orange. Here it is freshly applied:
And BAM! This is 10 minutes later:
It’s no illusion, here’s that same dried swatch with another freshly applied swatch beside it to the left.
😮 And if you recall, I was initially matched to Medium Light Neutral and the MUA accidentally put the Medium Dark Neutral in my bag. Can you even imagine how that would look?!
Urban Decay spews out a bunch of other benefits:
We loaded Naked Skin Concealer with lots of ingredients that are good for your skin. Matrixyl 3000 contains anti-wrinkle peptides to improve skin’s youthful appearance and elasticity. Japanese green tea revitalizes and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. Litchiderm™ (derived from lychee fruit) protects against dehydration, resulting in a brighter, more radiant complexion. And sodium hyaluronate helps skin attract and retain moisture.
Not true! This concealer looks dry and settles into fine lines! I asked another coworker if my eye area looked dry and she admitted yes it did, and said that’s not how they normally look. Thank you! Because this concealer made them look dry and crepey. I even used my night eye cream during the day to compensate for this concealer but it didn’t work – this concealer just insists on sucking all life and moisture from my under eye area.
Worn alone, this concealer also doesn’t provide enough coverage to conceal my dark under eye circles. The only way I was able to make this work was to wear the Becca Under Eye Corrector underneath it (see swatch 2 pics up). The Becca acts as both a moisturizing primer and neutralizer to minimize the oxidation. I’ve used this concealer for other areas around my face for light concealing and it’s just ok, I find it doesn’t last well on the skin.
And lastly, to add insult to injury, the packaging is rubbish, UD claims:
The modern flocked applicator lays down just the right amount of product, and it’s soft enough to use on the delicate skin under the eyes.
Basically the wand is a mini floppy spatula and it feels like I’m slapping a dead sardine on my face. The opening of the tube is also too narrow for the wand to fit through easily, so I’ve accidentally flicked concealer everywhere while attempting to dislodge it from the tube. Every time I use this, I have to carefully wiggle the wand out of the opening. The only thing I like about the tube? It has that satisfying “click” locking mechanism. That’s IT. 🙄
Here are the ingredients of this awfulness:
Cyclopentasiloxane, Aqua (Water/Eau), Butylene Glycol, Silica, Cyclohexasiloxane, Glycerin, Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Sodium Chloride, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylene Carbonate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexyl Laurate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1
It is made in Canada. (sorry!)
Pros:
• Natural looking finish
• Not cakey
• Wide range of shades
Cons:
• Oxidizes a lot
• Doesn’t provide enough coverage
• Makes under eye area look dry
• Settles into fine lines
• Wonky wand and tube
• Does not perform well on its own
Stash worthiness: 3/10
I’m not the the only one who experienced these issues, so did Annie of Annie’s Beauty, check out her post on this concealer. If you’re really hellbent on buying this tube-o-crap, it is available at select Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques, and at Sephora. I’m glad I didn’t pay actual money for this, or else I just might have returned it. I’ll use this up – and thank goodness for the Becca – but I would not repurchase. Have you ever tried this concealer?
Nice review.. nice post..

Haha the line ‘it feels like I’m slapping a dead sardine across my face’ made me laugh😂 very good. U can’t believe how much this oxidises. Now I’ve seen this, I wont ever be purchasing x

I’m not saying it’s the worst thing ever – lots of people seem to like this! But it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe if I went 2 shades lighter it would oxidize to match my skin tone? 😛

Haha one of the reasons I can’t wear liquid foundation is that it oxidises really bad on me. No matter how light the colour starts I turn orange😂 no loads of people love this concealer but if the colour changes that much, it’s not for me x

Yikes, considering the Bourjois I’ve got is meant to be a dupe of this I’m glad it seems to have none of these qualities! I’ve never seen a concealer colour change so much how disappointing!
Don’t you like slapping dead sardines on your face?! it’s my favourite past-time.

Hahahaha – let’s make dead sardine face slapping a meme! 😛
I sure hope the Bourjois performs better! I could NOT believe how much it oxidized – photos do not lie!

I TOTALLY agree! I hated this concealer so much, I looked like I was 20 years older 😛
On me, it was so cakey and unnatural !!! 1/10 Ingrid worthiness 😀

Aw you’re more critical than me then! I tried to find good things about this… I mean, it is impressive they have so many shades… but if they all oxidized like this, they’d have to offer it in WHITE to match anyone normal skintoned. 😆
Have you tried it over the Becca? It REALLY helped it to look decent…. otherwise it would be in the garbage by now.

I gave it away a long time ago !!! I don’t understand how it can be rated 4 stars on the Sephora website 😖
I didn’t make a review on it because I would have demolish this poor concealer 😀

I don’t get it either… are those reviews on Sephora being monitored so that they’re not too harsh? I would have loved to see your scathing reviews! 😀

Oh dear! Sounds horrendous. And I can’t believe how dark it got and how dry it looked. Not good at all.
I love your witty writing. A dead sardine… haha!!

Yeah, really unacceptable, given the bold claims the product makes! I can’t believe the colour change though – whatever technology they used, they should make that into a colour changing product lol!
I try not to be too snarky but I can’t help myself when it comes to bad products… I’m not getting sent any free products, that’s for sure! 😆

I was thinking about buying this concealer. Good thing I read this review. Yikes. Thank you!

I see lots of rave reviews for this concealer so I might be in the minority. If you’re able to try it in the store and see how it wears on you, maybe it will work for you? I was disappointed because it came highly recommended!

Yeah, concealers could be tricky. It’s been hard for me to find a concealer that works with my skin. The last product I tried had great reviews, but it didn’t look good on me.

I’ve got this concealer but I’ve not had much wear out of it as my shade is so off! Although the formula was pretty decent for me but the coverage isn’t the best and I definitely still love the Nars one! I definitely recommend the Nars one, it is much thicker and the coverage is so good!

Yes I remember you showed it and I asked if you found it to work for you since I wasn’t having much success! I’m glad that I have the Becca corrector to save the day. Worn on top of the corrector, I’m able to make this work! Such a disappointing product though.

Yes of course! I do remember you saying it wasn’t working for you! At least you can make it work in some kind of way!

I actually love this concealer, it’s hands down my go-to and my favorite of all the ones I got! Sucks that it didn’t work for you at all haha. Once I switched the original shade I got for a lighter one, it worked perfectly for me!

Makes sense, my recommendation would be buy a shade lighter in this, for sure! I just don’t like the formula either so I couldn’t even bother. I’m glad it worked for you though – I’ve read countless raves for this so I’m not surprised.

Hilarious that your colleague tells you that you look alright. I guess it is just one of those awkward questions that people will try to be nice.

I think so! But she’s one of those coworkers who I can normally rely on to tell me if I have a piece of lettuce between my teeth so maybe she honestly didn’t think it was so bad. Who knows!

Turning orange is something else though. People may think that it is your latest self tanning effort lol

I haven’t tried this one, and I probably won’t now!

IF you really want to try this, I’d recommend doing at least a shade lighter so that it would oxidize to match your normal colour. But the formula is so unforgiving… I wouldn’t recommend to try it for under your eyes!

My main concealer usage is for undereyes, so I’m definitely skipping!

Interesting! I actually love and use the naked skin UD weightless foundation and it is perfect! So, I would assume that the concealer would also work well but good to know that not everyone raves about it..Thanks for the review!

just by looking at the swatches, you can already tell that they aren’t that great. It looks like they’re “cakey” and might even dry out after a while. great post once again! 🙂

I was really hoping this would have worked for me! But I picked up the Nars one during VIB sale so I’m excited to try that soon! 😀

I’ve been going back and forth to get the Nars one but every time I reach the counter, I ended up putting them aside..hehe maybe will finally splurge on one soon..

Geez, the oxidation of this is horrendous! Not to mention the sinking into fine lines and looking dry…boo! I had originally wanted to try this after finishing the Nars concealer, but now I’m going to stay far away from this guy.
Thanks for the great review, as always!

I have the Nars one waiting in the wings next. What concealer are you thinking of trying next then, if not this? Or will you go back to the Nars?

Hmm, I haven’t decided yet! I do want to try a new one, but the Nars and UD ones are always the most talked about. I’ve heard good things about the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Concealer, so maybe that will be next on my list!

I just tried the Nars today and so far so good! It oxidizes slightly but it looks very natural. I wore it on its own today to test out – tomorrow I’ll try it with the Becca. I’ve heard mostly good things about that MUFE concealer – I really like that it’s in a squeeze tube instead of a doe foot applicator style.

I had the MAC Pro Longwear one but I hate the packaging, and also it is a pain to apply to make it look natural – I find it to look really heavy.

Yikes! funny, I was actually recently thinking that I should give this concealer a try since I’ve pretty much given every other brand a go. But…Having dry under eyes is my biggest struggle so I will DEFINITLY stay away from this! Thanks for the honest post 🙂

Oh yes if your under eye area is dry, stay FAR away from this! This is really only good for around the face, I find.

OMG! I have this and though I don’t love it, I don’t have as many issues with it as you do.
It is drying and does love fine lines, but mine doesn’t oxidize like this (and I even have the same shade). Strangely I am also not having any issues with the packaging: no floppy want or mess…. so weird.
Still totally agree with you that the coverage and dryness make this less than ideal, though I have been using it so I can finish it and not have wasted my money.

I’m so glad it works for you! I think maybe Annie and I got bad batches! 😛
I’ve been using this around my face and layered on top of the Becca and it helps. I’m trying to finish mine up so I don’t waste money either! (trying to be good)

We’re both so nice to keep trying to use this to make it work! Ingrid already threw it away LOL. I’m going to try the Nars creamy one soon so maybe I will abandon this one soon…

I still struggle to make it work, but I wouldn’t trust it for a special event or something!

What a let-down. I haven’t tried any of the UD concealers, but I’m usually a big fan of their products (especially the eyeliner). I really like the concealers from Smashbox, but I also have a pen concealer from Givenchy, I think it’s called Magic Wand or something similar (make-up lingo tacky) and to begin with I didn’t like it at all, but I’ve really learned to appreciate pen concealers. You just give it a twist and it’s ready to use.

I’ve not tried any Givenchy makeup. I might have to go investigate. I used to be addicted to those highlighter / concealer pens… I tried so many! One of my favourites is shockingly from the drugstore: Maybelline Dream Lumi pen.

WHOOOOOAAAAA! That got really dark! Jeez. Honestly, I’m thinking that the perfect concealer does not exist. I’m having a really hard time finding one. Right now, I’m using a creamy, thick concealer by MAC which I like, but it really settles into fine lines. I have super greasy skin and I hate makeup primers, so I guess my grease face is to blame. I’ll steer clear of this one. You ever try those by Charlotte Tilbury and Chantecaille? The latter costs the same as dinner out. LOL!
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ve been SOOOOOO curious about that Chantecaille concealer! But dang, the price of that is like what you said, the price of a fancy meal!
My problem is I want something pigmented that isn’t thick in texture – surely something exists out there?

I’m sorry this concealer didn’t work out for you. I absolutely love it! I cant purchase it all the time because it is pricey so I get the NYX dupe for about 22 dollars less lol. I did have to go two shades up to light medium because the fair and light were waaaaaayyyyy to opague. I didn’t even think translucent skin exsisted :X

Which is the NYX dupe? The HD concealer? I’ve been wanting to try that… ok, so I have to go 2 shades darker in that concealer, got it! Thanks for letting me know.

I had such high hopes for this one so it sucks that it oxidizes. Even with peptides, I don’t think this would deliver as much benefits as an actual skin care product as the main function is to conceal, and according to you, it even fails miserable at that. 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, it doesn’t deliver at all! I know peptides are good… but what exactly does it do?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Peptides are chains of amino acids that basically tell the skin cells what functions to perform. Some can stimulate collagen and elastin production and some can help relax the muscles on the skin reducing the appearance of wrinkles. 🙂
