Lancome Haul – May 2016

Ok, back to regular programming on the blog for a bit. I’m really backlogged from my May posts. I did a bunch of makeup hauls right before my vacation that I need to catch up on before the end of the month so I can get back into my groove. 😛

Lancôme isn’t a brand that I normally get too excited over, and I’m not sure why. But one fateful Sunday in late May right before my vacation, I went into Shoppers Drug Mart to buy some shaving gel for the SO and stumbled upon a beauty event where there was a live DJ and mocktails being served. They were having a bonus points weekend and there was also a gwp at Lancôme. So I ended up with these:

Yes, yet another palette! What’s happening to me?!  This was a completely unplanned beauty purchase. I blame the lychee mocktail they plyed me with. 😉

Juicy Shaker in Berry in Love – $28
lancome_may2016_3
I’ve been seeing these cute little lip shaker things all over social media and since I like the lip oils that I’ve tried (Clarins and Sephora), I decided to give this one a whirl. I debated between this shade and the Mangoes Wild (reddish coral shade) but the SA convinced me this was more unique (she knows me too well, I always gravitate toward the same colours over and over) – I think this cool toned berry shade will look striking in the summertime with a bronzed look.

Auda[City] in Paris Eyeshadow Palette – $89
lancome_may2016_4
I’ve seen this online but don’t know much about it. There are 16 colours in this palette – I can’t even figure out what looks to create with this yet. 😮 But I like the colour range and finishes – they swatched really well on the skin.  When I was at the NYX store with Jodi and Cat back in our little meetup, I was eyeing a Prismatic eye shadow single called Punk Heart. When I swatched this palette, I saw that the purple shade called Zip Me Up looks remarkably similar.  Now, that wasn’t the only reason why I bought this palette, of course! This palette was developed by none other than beauty artist extraordinaire, Lisa Eldridge.  She is the creative director at Lancôme now! I’m excited to try out this palette (and I think 16 pan is the largest palette I own!)

Here’s the Lancôme gwp I received:
lancome_may2016_5
Included samples:
• Rénergie Life Multi-action Lifting and Firming Cream
• La vie est belle perfume
• Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate
• Bi-Facil Double-action Eye Makeup Remover
• Hypnôse Drama mascara
The best sample is the mini version of the Color Design palette in Taupe Craze, but I already own it… and I love it (it’s listed as one of my favourite pre-made palettes). Here’s what the gwp looks like beside the full size palette:
lancome_may2016_6
The gwp is 2g while the full size is 4g. I’ll be passing the gwp to a friend to enjoy. 🙂

In addition to the Lancôme gwp, Shoppers was giving out a clutch with additional skincare samples inside:
lancome_may2016_7
The clutch is actually quite cute and very roomy – unsure if I’ll keep it or pass it along. The samples inside:
lancome_may2016_8
• Dr. Roebuck’s FACE Super Hydrating Repairing Cream
• Dr. Roebuck’s PURE Super Hydrating Repairing Cream
• Lancôme Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector
• Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate (another bottle!)
• RoC Pro-Define Anti-Sagging Firming Fluid
• Biotherm Blue Therapy Ultra Blur
Samples galore! I saw this article on The Onion recently and it made me laugh:

Oh yes, I did also pick up the shaving gel for the SO! 😉

  1. Ooo some nice products you got there! I haven’t actually tried anything from Lancome, their mascaras sound really good though! That palette looks gorgeous though and the fact it was created by Lisa Eldridge makes it sound even more dreamy!

    1. I’ve been curious to try their mascaras. I’ve only tried samples in the past.
Can’t wait to dig into that massive palette… I need to find instructions on how to use all the colours – I think some of them are toppers at the bottom row.

      1. They are always so popular so they must be good haha! Of course, I know there is so many shades where do you even begin lol! Have fun! I wonder if Lisa Eldridge did a video or something on it?

    1. I bought it without doing any research and it seems that most people say it’s a good basic palette but nothing special… which I DO NOT MIND at all. I like a workhorse type palette. Oh, I didn’t know that shade was well reviewed – good to know! I only gravitated toward it because the swatch was pretty.

  2. Oh those Juicy Shakers! I have to check the web of their color selection and a background on this cutie. I’m not quite sure if it’s already available here. But the SA gave you a pretty color very fit for summer.
My first lipstick was Lancomè but I haven’t repurchase since then. I would also love to try their mascaras.

    1. The Juicy Shakers are so cute. I like that they’re small and portable! Definitely check them out if you find it there.
I have a few random Lancome items – I like them but hardly ever follow their new launches. But I’m excited now that Lisa Eldridge is their creative director!

      1. Hmmm, is this the new summer trend now in lipsticks. The bi-phase oil. For a sec when I saw the word “oil” it instantly reminds me of “gloss” . I know it’s not as bad as that but I see this will work on me. 😊 The reviews are so promising. I don’t mind the sheer color, the natural healthy looking lips really appeals to me.

    1. Isn’t that mini palette the cutest? I was tempted to keep it for travel but the full size isn’t THAT much bigger so it’s fine for travel too. It’s better that it goes to someone who will use it. I can’t wait to dig into that palette! 😀

    1. The shaker is really nice! Not sticky at all and moderately hydrating. They’re supposed to replace the Juicy Tubes but they’re nothing like those – JT were much goopier and glossier. These give a faint tint which I love. You do have to shake them up really well before using to get the pigment to mix.

  3. Having gone to buy shaving gel and ended up buying a whole lot of beauty. What a story! And, you are not the only one as we are all sailing on the same boat and I agree that it is a perfect side effect of a beauty blogger (like me).
While coming back to Lancôme, I have used their cleanser, toner, eye shadow palette, eye kohl pencil, nail polish, lippies and mascara. I know it is a lot of them and I totally love their quality and it is certainly worth the buy

    1. I know… I always have good intentions going into the drugstore but I get distracted, as you can see!
Glad to hear you like Lancome’s quality overall. I just remembered that I have one of their eyeliners and I really like it!

  4. Like you, I’ve also never gravitated towards Lancôme. I think my brain processes it as an old lady brand (possibly because my mom used to use it when I was little?), even though that’s not actually the case.
The Audacity palette looks amazing. I’ve been eyeing it left, right, and center since it came out but I don’t really need another palette! It’s good to hear it swatches well, though. I’ve tried a couple of Lancôme shadows in the past and they were a bit sheer.
How do you like the Juicy Shaker lip oil? Sounds fascinating! When it first came out, the name reminded me of their Juicy Tubes lip balm, which I absolutely hated – sticky and little to no colour. This looks much more promising!

    1. Yeah it registers as old lady to me too. My hierarchy for old lady brands: Elizabath Arden > Lancome > Estee Lauder
I think they’re trying to change their image though. If you’d asked me a few years ago I would have ranked EL higher on the old lady ranking but they revamped their line and it’s much more youthful now. 😛
I don’t know what came over me with that Audacity palette… I normally don’t go for such a massive format (16 colour!) but I feel like I can get a lot of use out of it. I’d never take it travelling since it’s such a large size, but I can see it being a good vanity-worthy staple.
The Juicy Shaker oil is great! Very lightweight compared to the Juicy Tubes. The colour is mostly a tint on the lips, very similar to the Sephora lip oil. I do love the delivery system and the little shaker – very portable. You do need to reapply it frequently because the texture if quite thin. I succumbed to marketing, mostly! 😛

      1. LOL, I agree with your hierarchy for old lady brands! EL is definitely much more youthful now, especially with the Edit line, and it seems like Lancôme is trying to be more up to date as well. Elizabeth Arden – still an old lady brand!
The packaging is too cute! Out of all your lip oils, which one do you like most? I’m kinda contemplating getting one – still on the fence because sometimes I want some colour on my lips, but I don’t often wear lipstick. Afraid the tint won’t show up on my lips, though!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Oh you pose an interesting question about the lip oils! Perhaps I should do a comparison review?
I’d say if you want some colour, the Sephora ones might be better for you. The one I got in Bubbly Grenadine provides noticeable colour on the lips. The packaging is a bit fiddly on that one though – the long slim tube kind of annoys me.
I do love the formula of the Clarins lip oil but the one I have is not tinted – the oil is really comforting on the lips though. And now I see they’ve released some tinted ones! Methinks I need to get one of those to compare… for the blog, ya know! 😉 I think if the tint on the new Clarins ones are noticeable on the lips, it would be my first pick for you.
The Juicy Shaker falls somewhere in the middle – the colour is definitely more faint (and actually, depending on what shade you choose, some of them are even LESS pigmented, I chose Berry in Love because it has more pigment).

          1. Good to know, thank you! I’m going to go check out the Sephora and Clarins ones when I have a chance.
Yes, do a comparison blog! I love your comparison blogs 🙂 And of course, all your makeup purchases are for research purposes, am I right? 😉

    1. I think you’re right, that’s why I paid attention to the brand now, it’s Lise Eldridge’s touch that made the brand more interesting! The Juicy Shakers are so cute!

  5. I’ve only tried a few things from Lancôme. The mascaras I’ve tried are decent but didn’t wow me. But I loved the Tient Idole 24 Hr foundation I got a sample of st Sephora. It’s like a slightly thicker version of my HG Estée Lauder Double Wear.

      1. I have a revisit post on the Lancôme on my blog (I tried it a year ago but the shade I was matched with was too dark – this time I got the right shade).

  6. I can’t believe that you bought another palette !!! There is something wrong with this picture since I haven’t bought one this year or did I ???
I want to know your thought about the Juicy Shakers; I’m secretly hoping they are very bad 😉

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I know. What is going on that I’ve got a palette before YOU? The world is going mad… 😛
The Juicy Shakers are totally up my alley – moisturizing and a hint of colour. It might not be for everyone though! It’s so cute too… and perfect for the purse. 🙂 Sorry, I can’t say they’re bad!

    1. Yes it doesn’t last too long but I too, love the applicator (SO SOFT!) so I don’t mind using it. Plus, I love pulling out the cute little shaker and shaking it… it’s habit forming! 😆

    1. There are definitely pros and cons on the Juicy Shakers. For people who like long wearing, highly pigmented lip products, this isn’t it. But for someone like me who loves hybrid lip care and a hint of colour, this is the ideal product!

  7. I hope you’re keeping that clutch you got – that is way too cute to give away!

Love everything you picked up (shocking) – in particular that palette. The detail on the mirror is adorable! Not something I’d expect from Lancome.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Definitely not what I expected from Lancome either. I think since Lisa Eldridge became the Creative Director, they’re shifted gears with the brand. I’m liking what they’re doing!
The clutch is cute but I’m not sure when I’d ever use it! Still debating… might give it to my sister so it “stays in the family” 😛

  8. Oh that palette! I loved it when it came out but for some reason it was never launched here (or at least I have never been able to find it). Love the great gwp, lancome is so good at that.

    1. How sad they never launched it there! I didn’t search for it when it first came out but I just stumbled on it at this beauty event. Yes, the gwp was really nice – full of useful items!

  9. I’ve used their Hypnose mascara. To be honest, I wasn’t too impressed with it. It was a year ago so I don’t remember details anymore but I remember not being happy with it.
I love when brands give out little examples or gift bags. It is always so exciting. Great post! 👍 😊

    1. Good to know about the Hypnose mascaras – I mainly stick with drugstore mascaras so I don’t want to fall in love with an expensive mascara!
Yes, gwp is the best time to shop for makeup – I love trying out new items without having to commit!

  10. I love the Lancome Poeme perfume.. Just a classic scent.. Their eyeshadow is also very pigmented and yes.. Their mascara is one of the best out their.😄

    1. I haven’t tried any of Lancome’s perfumes! It’s just not a counter I visit often but I will make a point to. I’ve tried a few of their mascaras and they’re good but not THAT good that I’d pay the price! I still love my CoverGirl mascaras! 😛

  11. Oh man, the gwp offers get me every time. Dang sneaky marketing techniques!
This palette actually looks really lovely. It got such mixed reviews, but the shades are so pretty! I’m interested to hear what you think of it once you get a chance to play around with it a bit.

    1. I’ve since watched reviews on it (TaraBabyz) and most people seem to say it’s a boring palette – medium colour pay-off, for “safe” people. I guess I can be considered a “safe” makeup wearing person. I shall see! I still haven’t used it yet… this needs to be photographed! I think my months of no buying will be spent using the makeup that I bought. Ahem, I still haven’t really played around much with the stuff I hauled from Japan!
