Essie Maximillian Strasse-Her

I have to give full credit to Anne of Doves and Roses for putting this nail polish on my radar.  I had never heard of this colour until I saw it on her blog, just look at this pretty thing:

Essie describes this shade as a “cool Grey-Green”, which is fairly accurate. This shade was part of the Spring 2013 collection called “Madison Ave-Hue” with shades named after shopping areas around the world. Names in the collection include “Go Ginza” (Tokyo), and “Avenue Maintain” (Paris). The name of this polish refers to the shopping area in Maximilianstraße, Munich. It appears that this particular shade made it over to the permanent line as it is still readily available.

Essie is one of my all time favourite nail polish brands. I’m always drawn to their neutrals shades, and also their red cremes – I feel that Essie makes the best on the market in those colour families. But I haven’t delved too much into the other colours and now I know that I’ve been missing out! Maximillian Strasse-Her is stunning:

Application was a breeze, here is the first coat:

It’s slightly sheer but no streaks or patchiness typical of pastel shades – I wouldn’t call Maximillian Strasse-Her a pastel really, more of a lightened creme.  Here is the second coat:

I find this colour to shift depending on the light – sometimes it’s a blue-y grey, sometimes it’s a greyish-green.

I would describe this colour as if the Colour Engineers at Essie (I’m not sure if such a position exists, I just made that up 😛 ) took the colour of a hospital scrub, mixed it with a feather of a Mourning dove, and then added a dash of a robin’s egg:

Don’t you think?

This colour registers as a neutral to me – I think it would suit either warm or cool toned skin, and it would look great on fair or deep skin!

I also love that this colour is seasonless – it’s suitable for any time of the year and I plan on wearing it whenever I want something chic that’s not my typical nudes or sheer pinks.

  1. Love this shade so much! I have it on my nails right now thanks to you for reminding me I need to dig it out again! Also very interesting to read about the meaning behind the name, it always confused me so that was nice to know thanks!

    1. When I first heard of the name, I was scratching my head too! But in context of the collection, it makes a lot of sense! It’s such a great shade, no wonder it made your list of top polish shades!

  2. Wow that’s a really cool color, never heard about it! It looks so good on you nails!!
Believe it or not, I don’t even own an Essie nail lacquer… I should really purchuse a few and try them out. Do you know if they also got the treatments like for stronger nails, that you can use as a basecoat? My nails are terrible and often breaks…

    1. Hiiiiii! So nice to see you around here! 😉
Thanks, I had a great birthday. I’m extending my birthday for the whole week because I haven’t gone birthday haulin’ yet! 😆

        1. I think I’m off cake for now… maybe ice cream! I just had Moose Track ice cream – have you ever had that? It’s got mini peanut butter cups in a vanilla and chocolate swirl ice cream!

  3. Pretty! I agree that this is one of those shades that could work for any season!
I actually haven’t tried a ton of Essie polishes, usually cause I tend to cheap out on polishes and buy really inexpensive ones. I’ve been eyeing some of the shades in their Gel Couture line, though!

    1. Ahem, I may have picked up one of the Gel Couture polishes today… the birthday hauling has begun! 😀 I got the top coat to try too. I might try to wear it for 2 full weeks to see if it works as claimed! 😛
Winners carries Essie sometimes – you should check!

  4. Beautiful colour! I’ve never really been a fan of Essie’s nail polishes. I own a few and the colours are gorgeous but they wear terribly on me! 😦 I may try this one though because the colour is stunning and actually seems original (which is rare given the massive size of my nail polish collection lol)

    1. I remember you telling me that you’re an OPI fiend! I’m the opposite – I have way more Essies than OPIs. Although, with all the OPIs I got earlier this year, I now have a lot of OPIs too.
I was trying to think of a dupe for this shade and I couldn’t! That’s definitely rare!
