OPI Go With The Lava Flow

I’ve challenged myself to commit to one nail polish post per week, since I’ve got so many untrieds in my stash! I change my nail polish on a weekly basis but I’m not always disciplined enough to take photos of the manicure. I’m hoping to change that! This week I’m sharing with you the mani that I wore last week, OPI Go With The Lava Flow.

This shade was part of the OPI Hawaii collection from Spring 2015. I picked this polish up for $5 when I hauled a bunch of OPIs.

On OPI’s site, the tagline for this polish is:

You can feel the heat shimmering off this golden red.

I wouldn’t just call this a red. It registers as a bright red-coral, due to the golden shimmer flecks.

Application was a breeze, here’s the first coat:

I was also really impressed with the wear time, this is how the manicure looks on day 7, just before I removed it:

Some tip wear, a tiny bit of a chip on my thumb at the side (which is where I typically use to peel stuff off or dig into something, heh).  For reference, I use Orly Naitrition, then Orly Bonder as bases, then I apply Poshe top coat. These are my standard base and top coats.

I saw a nail polish blog that showed bottle / brush shots like this (sorry, I forgot which blog it was, I’ll link it if I find it) and I really liked how it showed the details of both the brush and polish – here I am trying to emulate it. 😛 I’d like to think the polish droplet shot a few photos up is my signature polish bottle image!

Here’s a close-up shot of the bottle and nails – it’s full of golden shimmers that really shines in daylight.  Removal of the polish requires slightly more effort due to the shimmers, but not at all as difficult as full-on glitters.

OPI Go With The Lava Flow is the perfect summery shade and looks especially striking on tanned skin.  What’s your current favourite summery nail polish shade?

  1. Pretty, I can’t really see that orange shimmer that’s in the bottle, just looks like a nice coral to me, pretty sure I have a mini of this somewhere!

I should really set myself this challenge too, I have a growing box of ones I want to talk about – haven’t painted my nails in about 10 days, which I think is the longest since turning 18!!

    1. I almost NEVER have bare nails. Come to think of it, I think so far this year, I’ve had nail polish on my nails every single day! Why haven’t you had polish on? Is it because of the puppy?
Yes, the shimmers on this is fairly subtle. It’s a pretty base colour even without the visible shimmer though.

      1. Just literally can’t find the time to do it – had a really busy few weeks and finding a solid 40 minutes to paint and wait for them to dry seems non existent at the moment! I’d probably do gels – but my gel lamp seems to need replacing as the manis aren’t lasting long as they should do (like 2 days, normal polish lasts longer!) and my pro friend thinks it’s the lamp not curing them correctly!

  2. Perfect summer shade! Too bad the golden shimmer flecks don’t show up on the nails as well as in the bottle…it would make for an interesting shade. Nonetheless, it’s really pretty!
Great idea doing one nail polish post a week! I don’t think I’ve done a nail post since…my very first one?! Eeek. Love your nail polish pictures (both your signature shot AND the bottle/brush shot 😉 ). For whatever reason, I find it really difficult to get good nail polish bottle shots!

    1. Um… your blog name has the word POLISHED in it girl! 😆 I still remember your first blog post. 🙂
I have to practice polish bottle shots – it’s like a balancing act to not get nail polish all over the backdrop. It’s only a matter of time that I will… 😛
The flecks do show up on the nails but mostly in sunlight. I found sometimes the gold shimmer looks blue under fluorescent light, which I ttink is neat looking. I don’t wear neons so this is as bright as I’d go!

      1. lol! When I made my blog name, I hadn’t meant it to be a play on words…my bad! In the podcast with Cat, you mentioned that my first blog post was about nail polish – I was so pleasantly surprised that you remembered!
You are quite good at them, but yes, I can see how it’s a risk to accidentally get any nail on the backdrop!

  3. Great color! I have never had luck with OPI polish. They always seem runny and need at least 3 coats, maybe the formula is different in minis vs full size? I may have to try a full size. ps love both shots of the polish bottles!

    1. I actually detested OPIs because they were too THICK and goopy! So funny how our experiences are completely opposite! I was off buying OPIs for years until I picked up a few this January and now I’m really impressed with what I’ve gotten so far. I typically stay away from mini nail polishes because I really hate the mini brushes! 😛

  4. Gorgeous colour! I could probably feature a nail polish a day for the rest of the year but my nails just can’t handle polish every week, I need to give them a break in between. I can’t stop buying nail polish though, I literally had to tear myself away from a few today. Its becoming a bit of a problem.

Looking forward to your weekly reviews!

    1. I am rarely without nail polish. I actually did try not wearing nail polish a couple of years ago and my nails broke even more. So now I keep polish on all the time.
I did the same thing the other day – at Rexall they had a bunch of polishes for $2 and I had about 4 in my hands and then decided against them and put them all back. I was wondering if security thinks I stole stuff when I walk off quickly… 😛

  5. I completely empathize with the whole being too lazy to take photos of my manicures. I almost always wear nail polish but I only remember to take photos before everything chips half of the time.
I have this nail polish! It’s so pretty! It’s really flattering on you as well!

    1. I just have to get into the habit of setting up my lights and backdrop every Sunday evening while I do my mani – it’s pretty routine now… 4 weeks in!
I wasn’t sure about this colour at first – too flashy – but definitely works for summer!
