Birthday Haul ft Charlotte Tilbury and Shu Uemura

You didn’t think I wouldn’t take advantage of my birthday as an excuse to buy makeup, right? 😛 I’ve been busy the past couple of weeks:
birthday2016_2
I haven’t gone back to the Charlotte Tilbury counter since my last birthday, so I suppose it’s an annual tradition?

First though, my friend gave me these:
birthday2016_3
• Body Shop Italian Summer Fig Shower Gel
• Body Shop Limited Edition Blueberry Shower Gel
• Flower Beauty Nail’d It Nail Lacquer in Cosmopolitan
It was so sweet of her to get me these – the blueberry shower gel smells amazing, and I never got a chance to try any of the Flower Beauty stuff. I heard they’re being pulled from Walmart in Canada now!

And now for the birthday haulage. I had some gift cards that I used toward these. First up, from Holt Renfrew, the Charlotte Tilbury loot:
birthday2016_4
• Luxury Palette in The Sophisticate
• Bronzer Brush
• Powder & Sculpt Brush
• Eye Blender Brush
I’ve been wanting to get an eye shadow quad from CT since last year but held off until now. I know the Dolce Vita palette is popular but the one shimmery shade was too chunky for my taste. This one is an all matte palette – excited to try it!  And I wanted to get some of her brushes since I read raves on them, especially the Powder & Sculpt one. I’m planning on phasing out some of my lower quality brushes that I don’t use much anymore.

Next up, I went to Sephora to collect my birthday gift:
birthday2016_5
• Sephora birthday gift Marc Jacobs (Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Blacquer and Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang)
• Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner in S-50 Satiny Taupe
• Marc Jacobs The Bronze – Bronzer Brush No. 12
The Marc Jacobs birthday gifts are really nice! I’ll be giving the eyeliner to a friend since I don’t wear black eye liners. I decided to give the new MUFE eye liner one a try since I purged a bunch of my liners. I am currently using the old MUFE Aqua liner in 24L Light Taupe which I love for my lower lash line. In the new range, the closest taupe shade is this one but it has shimmer so I’ll see. And the Marc Jacobs brush was a moment of weakness – I’ve had this brush on my wishlist for ages and I decided I wanted a large fluffy bronzer brush for the summer!

At Hudson’s Bay, I hit up the Shu Uemura counter:
birthday2016_6
• Eye Primer
• Point Cealer (concealer)
• Drawing Pencil (eye liner) in M Dark Brown 83
• Hard Formula brow pencil in Seal Brown 02
• Blushing Beige Eye Shadow Palette
The eye primer was somewhat of a need since my current one from Prestige is separating in the tube (and now I remember I got an eye primer from Japan, doh) – it was just launching when I went to the counter. I don’t know what possessed me to get yet another concealer. On the day I visited the counter, I was wearing the Too Faced concealer.  It was after work and I saw in the mirror at the counter just how much it had faded. Honestly, I mainly went to the counter for the brow pencil and the eyeliner… but I positively lost my mind over this eye shadow palette:
birthday2016_7
It’s limited edition and it is glorious!

Those were the splurges, then I got random stuff from various places:
birthday2016_8
• Burt’s Bees lipsticks in Sunset Cruise 523 and Lily Lake 530
I’ve been wanting to try these for ages! I was so excited to see them on sale.

birthday2016_9
• CoverGirl TruNaked Eye Shadow Palettes in Nudes and Goldens
• CoverGirl TruBlend Blush in Medium Rose
I showed the palettes on IG when they went on sale for $9.99 – how could I possibly pass them up? You know I love the Roses version and vowed to get the other 2 colours… what better time than for my birthday? 😛 And I’ve read good reviews online about the blush and it looks like a cheaper alternative to MAC Mineralize Blushes.

birthday2016_19
• e.l.f. Cosmetics Blush Palettes in Light and Dark
I’ve been living under a rock and did not know that Old Navy now carries e.l.f. Cosmetics in their stores? I’ve wanted these since I first saw them on IG. And the only place I know these are sold is online – really pleased to have gotten both palettes!

And then, after I heard that Flower Beauty was on clearance from Walmart, I stopped in to have a look. Almost everything was gone but I spotted this neat blush:
birthday2016_18
• Flower Beauty Transforming Touch Powder-to-Crème Blush in Tickled Pink
Powder to crème blush? I’ve never heard of that! It has really good reviews online so I’m hoping I”ll like it too.

And… the rest are nail polishes! 😉
birthday2016_10
• Smith & Cult nail polish in Gay Ponies Dancing in the Snow
• Teeez Chain of Stones Nail Lacquer in Amazing Amethyst
Oh Em Gee, the Smith & Cult nail polish! 😮 I finally got my hands on it! The shade name slays me every time. 😆 The Teeez one was only a matter of time since I really enjoyed the Melted Copper one… I had to get this colour before it disappeared when they launch their new seasonal collection.

birthday2016_11
• Revlon 934 Untamed
• Revlon 150 Desirable
• Revlon 165 Romantique
• Maybelline Color Show Better in Buff 031
The Revlons were 50% off and I couldn’t refuse! Ever since I tried the few that I had hauled online, I’ve been wanting to get more Revlons. The Maybelline was on clearance for $2 and this looked to be a possible mannequin hand type of shade.

birthday2016_12
• Essie Gel Couture in Pinned up and top coat
I’ve been itching to get my hands on these. They retail for $14.99 each here and when I saw them on sale for $10.99, I jumped on them. I’m currently test wearing them for 2 weeks to see how to fare. Stay tuned!

I actually went to my favourite downtown beauty supply store first to find the Essie Gel Coutures but they weren’t available there yet. But, they had regular Essies for $2.99 in the clearance bin so I went to town!
birthday2016_13
• Essies Macks
• Essies Shall We Chalet
• Essies Haute Tub
birthday2016_14
• Essies Exotic Liras
• Essies Delhi Dance
• Essies Miss Fancy Pants
• Essies Apres-Chic

birthday2016_15
• Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Karamel
• Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Slay Grey
• Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Prosecco
• Mineral Fusion nail polish in Nickle & Dime
The first 2 Sinful Colors are from the “King Kylie” (Jenner) collection. But the most exciting of all is Prosecco. I’ve had this shade on my wish list since learning about it as part of a limited edition release in 2014. And I found it at a side walk sale for $2! The Mineral Fusion is a brand that I saw mentioned ages ago on Chic & Polished (ahem, update your blog, girl) and when I spotted it on sale at Whole Foods while buying coffee, I grabbed one. 😛

Speaking of sidewalk sales… I “stumbled” across another side walk sale with SpaRitual and OPI polishes for $3 again!  What am I supposed to do? Walk away?  I got SpaRituals in:
birthday2016_16
• Improvisation
• Intuition
• Imagination
All 3 are from the Illuminate collection which have stunning blue / fuchsia shimmer flecks suspended in sheer jelly bases. Hmmmmg!
birthday2016_17
• OPI My Twin Mimmy (Hello Kitty collection)
• OPI mystery colour – ugh I almost didn’t pick this up because it was unlabeled but it’s so pretty for summer. And only $3!

Geez, that’s another boatload of nail polishes! I swear I’m going to stop buying nail polishes for a while. At least until October! And um, I’m not counting any of my birthday haulage toward my Low-Buy, so there. 😛 I’m back on the No-Buy till October now. 😥 Have you tried any of the items I got?

PS. I didn’t get to the MAC store on the weekend to do my Back to MAC – it’ll likely be next week!  Thanks for all your input. I’ll be sure to post what I do end up with.

  1. First off, happy birthday ❤ 🙂 ❤
Everything looks so beautiful! Definitely jelly. I'm having some nail polish envy.
Are those Kylie polishes matte? I picked up a couple during my last drugstore run and they were all matte. I ended up not really loving them because I found them hard to work with.
All those Essie polishes look great too! 🙂

    1. Thank you! 🙂
No, the Kylie polishes aren’t matte, but I did see that they has some now that are called “satin mattes”. They look interesting but I didn’t love any of the colours to pick up any. What did you find about them that was difficult to work with?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh cool! I’ll have to go back and see if I can find the ones you have. I found that they dried funny and I had to work quick with them. The polish got really clumpy. I’m just not really a fan of matte polishes though.

  2. Happy birthday!! Suchh a great haul, all the products look amazing. I love the CT palette, and the Essie Gel couture nail polish packaging looks soo cute!

    1. Thank you! Yes, the Essie Gel Couture bottles are quite different, aren’t they? At first I wasn’t sure about them but now I like how they look!

  3. My god what a haul! how do these go into the low buy scheme, I see some gift cards covering some bits! I still haven’t picked anything up from CT, there’s not a counter near me to see things in person which I always like to do with new to me brands! You’re right that Shu Uemura palette is gorgeous!
There are so many polishes here that I spy that I want/need – that Teez, Essie Haute Tub in particular! Excited you got Gay Ponies! Good luck with the Kylie polishes, I did not get on with the two I got at all 😦

    1. I remember you saying you didn’t like the Kylie polishes, but I still wanted to try them out! I’ve had good luck with Sinful Colors before so I’m not sure what it would be able these formulas that would be different?
I’m in nail polish heaven right now. I need to appreciate what I have so that’s why I need to focus on reviewing my collection instead of acquiring more! 😛
These don’t count toward anything. That’s the magic of making up the rules as you go along! LOL 😆

      1. I really want to check out CT makeup, but I’ve already blown through my beauty budget for the year. I’m trying to be good but it’s so hard :).

  4. Haha, happy belated birthday, again 😀 And OMG I might have to go seek out your sidewalk sale source. LMAO! SpaRitual for $3!

I love Essie Macks! I was at that beauty supply recently (I didn’t see their buy 4, get 2 free deal anymore?) but their clearance didn’t have all those great shades! Just a bunch of stuff I already had. Boo. Now I must return.

Gorgeous hauls from CT and Shu! And where may I ask did you get the Smith & Cult? Haven’t seen them apart from online.

    1. I was so shocked to find Essie Macks in that clearance cart – it’s that shopping cart they have near the side cash register. I stood there and dug through the whole thing, I don’t care! 😛
The side walk sales are in the PATH, this particular place I found the SpaRitual and OPIs is a salon right in the RBC plaza near the food court. (I have no idea the name)
And I found Smith & Cult in the PATH, again. It’s a salon called Dean Delmonte & Company in the Sunlife building (I only took note of the name because Cat asked!). I literally walked by it while getting lunch and there was a whole display of them! They have the Smith & Cult lip glosses too. The nail polish cost $24 each, ouch.
I’m so psyched about the Shu… the quality is like BUTTAH. ❤

  5. Amazing haul! Of course ya gotta treat yourself on your birthday especially to Charlotte Tilbury! Never tried her brushes before so intrigued to see how you get on with them particularly the sculpt one! Also the name of that Smith & Cult polish is amazing haha!

    1. Even if that’s the ONLY Smith & Cult polish I ever own, I would cherish it forever! 😛
Those brushes, I tell you – first thing, so interesting is that they’re made in GERMANY! What, I’ve never seen a makeup brush made in Germany. I’ll be reviewing them for sure! 🙂

  6. Oooh, look at all them goodies! All the brushes you bought look amazing! I want that CL Powder & Sculpt brush now…
Your nail polish picks are spot on. So glad you went back for Amazing Amethyst! Haute Tub, Prosecco, Exotic Liras and Imagination are my favourites. Don’t know how it will compare on the nails, but Prosecco reminds me of H&M’s Cashmere, which I think you also own. I can’t believe you found SpaRituals polishes for $3!!
Let us know how those Burt’s Bees lipsticks work out. I’ve heard so much about them and have been curious!
Dang it! My birthday was in May. I should’ve just written off my Toronto purchases as my ‘birthday haul’, then I wouldn’t be in the predicament I am in now with being over my low-buy budget! XD

    Liked by 1 person

    1. You totally should retroactively declare your Toronto purchases your birthday presents to yourself! 😛 I highly recommend doing that! Say Stashy said. 😛
I thought the CT Powder & Sculpt brush would be pointier but I do like that shape for blushes. The big one I got I’m planning to use for powders, not bronzers.
Oooh I didn’t even think about H&M’s Cashmere for a possible dupe to Prosecco! I just did a search and guess what, nope:

      😀 It’s darker!
I think the SpaRituals will look stunning over a dark creme base. That’s likely how I’ll wear them. Definitely will be featured on one of my weekly nail polish posts. Hmm trying to think of a catchy name for the recurring series. Or perhaps it doesn’t need one? 😛

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Is it bad that I’m seriously considering taking my May purchases out of my low buy budget?! 😏 Stashy makes all the rules, so…😁
Ooh, you’re right, they aren’t dupes! Prosecco is a lot more taupey than Cashmere too. Looks gorgeous! So lucky you got your hands on a LE polish!
All Stashy series need a catchy name, you always have one! With that being said, I have no suggestions for you, lol. Not so good with the clever names like you are!

        Liked by 1 person

  7. Happ Birthday again Stashy!!!🎂 And I have my eyes on the CT blush and lipstick for so long but I really need to see them upclose. My goal is to get one before I visit home this October (we’ll see 🤔). I also have the Burtz Bee’s lippies but havent used them yet.. Been hoarding more new products latety.. Just need time to edit the post! Haha and those nail polishes girl.. I always think of you everytime I see nail polishes on sale here.. They sell so cheap!😱😬

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes, CT has to be seen up close in my opinion. I probably wouldn’t have committed to the brushes without feeling them firsthand.
I did take pictures of those Burts Bees lippies so now I can use them! Then I’ll post about how I like them. 😛
I think I’d be in DEEP trouble if I lived in the US with all the sales! This is why I’ve committed to 1 nail polish post per week going forward!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Haha!!! I agree with you.. I now have a good stack of new polishes that I’ve been hauling and im dying to try them. Wish CT is accessible to purchase. 😟

    1. I’m planning on reviewing the Essie Gel Couture next week! 🙂
And yes, that Marc Jacobs brush is insanely soft! I just want to brush my face with it all day… 😛

  8. Amazing birthday haul!! Can’t wait to see what your thoughts are on the MUFE eyeliner.. I’ve had my eye on the aqua one for awhile but I think I’m going to wait until I go to an actual Sephora store in a few weeks… I also had the same e.l.f. – Old Navy revelation as you, I was there waiting in line to pay during $1 flip-flop day and I was surprised! I had to refrain from buying anything though because $1 flip-flop day ended up turning into a “stocking up my summer wardrobe day”… that’s how they get you! lol

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha you’re so right about the e.l.f. display at Old Navy. The funny thing was that I didn’t even buy any Old Navy stuff while I was there, I literally lined up just to check out the e.l.f. display and bought just the 2 blush palettes! 😛
I’m crossing my fingers about the MUFE liner – I love the old one so much, hopefully it’s just an improved version.

  9. What a haul, but it’s your birthday so you deserve it! Your polish picks once again are on point, the eye shadow palette from Shu Uemura looks gorgeous – can’t wait for your review on this and the Burt’s Bees lip colours look lovely 🙂 Great Sephora birthday gifts too!

    1. I consider the Shu Uemura palette my top pick of my birthday haul. It was one of those surprise items I had no idea that it even existed. Now I have to muster up the nerve to use it. Just so many colours – hard to choose what combination to wear!
I think Sephora has upped their game with the birthday gifts. Does Sephora offer birthday gifts to ship to residents of NZ?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I barely know anything about Sephora (useless beauty blogger I know). I think people from NZ being able to buy from Sephora is a new thing, like the last couple months. I have no idea about birthday gifts but I’ll try and find out for you 🙂

  10. What a gorgeous haul!! Don’t even know where to start.
I have the sophisticate and I love it: very neutral and wearable shades. Still longing for dolce vita, but like you I thought it would be a little too glittery.
Would love to hear what you think about the new essie gel polishes: haven’t seen them around here yet but I am hoping they will launch in the fall.

    1. I remember seeing The Sophisticate on your blog! I was excited because it is all matte. 🙂
The Essie polishes are from older collections – for instance, “Haute Tub”, “Shall We Chalet” and “Apres-Chic” were all from their Winter 2015 collection. But I’ll be sure to review them!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Same here, I kept going back and forth between dolce vita and the Soph. but in the end I figured I would get so much more use out of the matte shades.

  12. Gay Ponies in the Snow got me again! 😂 What an awesome name!

K where do I start….the Shu Umera palette looks amazing, love the CTilburry brushes and palette, the Spa Ritual polishes are gorg, cannot wait to see a swatch of that Teeez nail polish – sigh! You’re giving me the urge to do some shopping even though I’m trying to scale back for a while!!!

    1. I HAD to have that polish. If that’s the only Smith & Cult polish I ever own, at least I’ll have that! 😆
The risk any time I’m out browsing is running into something fabulous and limited edition… like this new MAC Trolls collection. Ugh. I need to stay AWAY.

You know, that Shu Uemura palette is still UNTOUCHED. I’m so scared to use it lol. Don’t want to ruin the perfect surface even though I’ve taken pictures of it. SILLY ME.

I’m was just thinking of a twist for a challenge in 2017 … paying for everything in CASH. What do you think? 😉 I think I’m less inclined to fork over money when it’s cold hard cash. And, it will also eliminate online shopping! 😛

  14. Happy Birthday!!!
(belated…but better late than never right?)
I still haven’t gone to Sephora for my birthday yet this year. I already have Kiss Kiss Bang Bang from another sample set and while I really want to try Blacquer liner, I can’t really find anything to excited about at Sephora! A mixed blessing to be sure 🙂
OMG that Shu Umera palette looks glorious!
I complete forgot about that Flower blush. I actually have it and like it so I need to pull it out and use it more! It’s definitely a more summery shade so I should use it while the season is upon us (although right now, I feel like summer is going to last forever. SO. HOT.)
That Essie Haute Tub shade looks like a galaxy! And that SpaRituals Imagination polish! So shiny! I need it! lol

    1. Haha I see you’re getting caught up on my posts! 😛 Thank you!
I had never even HEARD of that blush and when I looked up reviews, they were really good. I kind of wished I had gotten my hands on the peachy / coral colour. It’s such a neat concept – powder to cream.
Yes, summer has been unbearably hot here too. The air is so heavy, I feel like I can’t even breath. I’m looking forward to cooler weather!
