I was in the mood for a bright fun colour since the weather forecast for last week called for thunderstorms and rain.
Delhi Dance was part of Essie’s Resort collection for 2016, here are the rest of the colours from the small collection:
This was a recent addition to my collection, as part of my birthday haul, I got this for $2.99 at my favourite salon supply store in downtown Toronto, called Toronto Barber & Beauty Supply, or TBBS for short. It’s a favourite haunt of fivezero‘s as well!
Essie calls this shade “silky sari pink”. I call is a bright milky pink. The colour is teetering on neon territory but there’s enough white in it that it’s not full-on neon. Neon polishes often dry with a matte finish but this polish doesn’t do that. BUT, neons are notorious for being difficult to apply, and same with pastels. This polish exhibit the worst qualities of both neons and pastels. I had to reapply multiple fingers more than once due to streaks and bald patches. I was cursing this polish! 😦
Here’s what it looks like with 1 coat, I had to reapply my ring finger twice:
Here’s the second coat, I had to remove and reapply both coats of my index and middle fingers once each:
The pink is neutral and the brightness is a nice contrast for my skin tone, especially with the tan I currently have. My friend who hates bright polishes, actually commented, “Hmm it’s bright but I don’t hate it.” Well, there’s that! 😛
I tested out the Essie Gel Couture top coat with a regular Essie polish, as some of you requested in my review post. It wore quite well and the shine lasted all week:
I only had a tiny chip on my right hand index finger, and on my left hand middle and ring fingers. Compared to the Essie Gel-Setter top coat, this one is better, but compared to my beloved Poshe top coat, I still prefer the Poshe. I will be testing it with non-Essie regular polishes in the future.
And this week’s “hand holding random object” shot features a pack of gum I bought in Japan:
The name Xylitol sounds like medicine! It’s by Lotte, a large Japanese confectionery company. 🙂 I was excited to try Japanese gum but it wasn’t that good – not a lot of flavour and the gum didn’t last. Thanks for all your input on what random objects I can be holding from last week – I’ve got a long list of objects that will last me until the end of the year! 😆
I’m debating whether I’ll keep this polish – I don’t own a lot of bright pink polishes but the formula was such a pain to apply. What’s your favourite bright pink polish shade?
Oooh, this looks nice on you! And I don’t tend to like bright bubblegum pinks either, but somehow it works.
One would actually never be able to tell that you struggled applying this polish, because the application in the up-close shot looks perfect!
Lol, if you hadn’t said that you were holding a pack of gum, I would’ve thought Xylitol was a brand of cough medicine/cough drops!
Arghhh, we ran out of time and I never got the chance to check out TBBS even though you showed me where the store was – need to go back to Toronto so I can do more shopping!

In real life the polish was streaky in the first coat but that’s looking at them closely.
Yes Xylitol could totally be cough drops like Halls, lol!
Aww that’s too bad about not getting a chance to visit TBBS… maybe next time! But definitely go without your SO… 😆

It’s a shame the formula isn’t the best, ‘cos that colour is gorgeous! It’s bright but really nice😊 z

Yes, I was surprised how nice it looked. I might keep this until I find a replacement for it. Although, there’s no promise that the formula would be any better!

Your nails are so perfect! I love the color. So perfect to perk you up on a gloomy day. Question-how do you shape your nails? Are you diligent about filing them or are they naturally that perfect?!?!?!

Um, I don’t have a template to shape my nails or anything. I guess it’s just with practice! 😛 I file my nails probably ever other manicure so that’s every 2 weeks.

It looks great on you! I’m not one for pink nails, so I don’t have a fave.

I didn’t figure you for pink nails! 😆

Piggy pink! And it really looks nice with your tan! Too bad the formula is awful…
I think I don’t own a single item of clothing that’s pink (or orange) but I looove hot pink (and fuchsia!) nails.

Haha yes piggy pink. A BRIGHT piggy!
I do have some pale pink clothing. I do own an orange BLAZER. Every time I wear it, I get positive comments but it’s just so in your face.

Whenever someone mentions orange jackets, coats or blazers, I’m thinking of Fran Drescher and her fluffy orange coat. 😀
I’m sure you look fab with your orange blazer. I think most people can wear bright colours. But I just can’t bring myself to wear orange or pink because both colours clash with my ginger hair.

Haha Fran Drescher, now THAT’s a name I haven’t heard in ages!
I assure you the blazer isn’t puffy! Oh I think pink would look wonderful on redheads… like Molly Ringwald in Sixteen Candles! Even bright pinks I think looks great.

I wouldn’t have thought your blazer would be anything other than a classic blazer.
About Molly… I see what you mean. She’s wearing a lof of pale pink in this movie and she looks cute. But she’s not a real redhead, so she doesn’t have that typical redhead skin tone. Her skin tone works really well with pink. But she and I look nothing alike. I’ve got green eyes (well, one’s green, the other one’s green and dark blue) and I’m very pale. Think Marcia Cross but much, much paler.
I think that lots of dark and generally bold colours (dark green, dark blue, black, red, purple, yellow etc) work for me because those colours go well with my hair. But I don’t wear pink, orange (and pastels) because those colours really clash with my hair and they make my skin look paler than it is. Ah well…

It is, isn’t it? I only wear or own a lot of pink polishes but this was a great one.

The colour is so pretty and the name is adorable! I hate how much a pain in the neck pastel colours can be to apply! I have a pastel polish also by Essie called Romper Room and it is such a lovely pink but I hate applying it. You could be a professional nail polish hand model with all your practice haha 😛

I love the IDEA of pastels but in reality they are usually a pain to apply. I’ve probably come across only a handful that were good formulas.
Haha I find it funny that my child-size hands are getting praised – I am jealous of people who can reach more than an octave on the piano!

My hands are small too so I feel your pain! I quite like them though, they’re dainty and elegant 😀

Oh no. The colour is just lovely: nice and bright without being overly sweet somehow. But the application sounds like a nightmare. Not used to that from Essie to be honest.

Essie polishes are mostly good but I’ve experienced some challenges in the past especially with pastels and super bright shades. Just something about those pigments make polishes universally bad, I think. I guess the results are worth it.

Hahaha. This post made me laugh! Oh I felt the anger and frustration:)) I have been there so many times. Add crying baby that needs to be taken out of the crib as soon as you have nailed the application 🙈
Color looks great and modelling object is on point. I have to start doing my nail posts and have fun finding modelling objects :))

I canNOT even imagine painting my nails with a baby around! That just won’t ever end well! 😛 You definitely need a super fast drying top coat or else nevermind!

Milky opaque polishes are such a pain in the butt to apply! Looks like you did pretty well. I hate this kind of bubblegum pink (on me) but I can definitely see it being a nice antidote to thunderstorms.

I thought it’d look really juvenile but it wasn’t bad. I think the milkiness toned down the brightness. The photos are the result of a lot of swearing, let me assure you!

Wow, you have patience 😂 I can’t cope with reapplying my nails. Looks good on you. Your patience has paid off. 😉
The Canmake sugar collection pink is decent. More on the clumpy alert than streaky. I don’t know, bright pink is a hard colour to pull off.

I am determined once I start down a path. And I was going to wear this pink come hell or high water!
I did pick up a couple of nail polishes in Japan including a Canmake one – it’s a sparkly pink! I’ll use it as a topper I think.

I don’t own many bright pink polishes either..they usually give me Barbie vibes. While I do like the look of this shade what I love is the Indian take on the names!
Shame it isn’t easy to apply.

Ughh, sucks this polish didn’t work for you! I find some Essie polishes to be a hit or miss- mostly hits but there are definitely those random ones (like this one) that just don’t make the cut! It’s a pretty shade, although these types of pinks never look right on me- I think i’m way too pale to pull the bubblegum pinks off. Looks great with your tan though!
I love your random object at the end of these- i’m looking forward to see what you’re going to hold next:-)

Beautiful colour and I love the random object haha… I bought gum in Rome a few years ago because I needed some for the plane and it was I swear the worst gum I’ve ever had haha

I love trying local brands of gum. The best I ever tried was from Denmark! We seriously considered paying crazy prices to buy them online haha. Too bad about the gum from Rome – mental note: don’t buy gum in Rome!

I love the shade but I don’t know if I’d use the polish again if it takes so much effort to get a decent result. I just don’t want to take so much time to redo two or three nails.
What’s my favourite pink nailpolish? Hmm… I know I have few pink nailpolishes but they are more of a hot pink type. I’d have to check my stash because I don’t want to butcher their names here 🙈
