Wet n Wild Yo Soy

I mainly became interested in this polish after hearing from fivezero that some WnW polishes are made in Luxembourg so I have to find out for myself!
wetnwild_yosoy2
I don’t often buy nail polishes that come packaged with a cardboard backing – I think these were repackaged specifically for Dollarama – as you can see, this cost $1.50. The bottle contains 12.3ml of polish.

The first thing that struck me was how odd the bottle shape is! I don’t even know what to call it.  It’s kind of like a sailboat.

The cap isn’t one of those with a outer “sleeve” that reveals a smaller inner cap – this is what you use to hold it. And surprisingly, it wasn’t too awkward to use.

The second thing I had to verify for myself that yes, indeed, this polish is also made in Luxembourg and filled in China (I assume the bottle is made in China):
wetnwild_yosoy4
That is crazy the polish is made there, considering the standard of living is super high in Luxembourg, and WnW is so inexpensive!

I did notice that the brush wasn’t evenly cut and was a bit splayed out:

The colour is a light beige creme – this is the quintessential “palate cleanser” as they say in the nail polish circles. And like most light creme / pastel shades, this applied with streaks on the first coat:

It looks fine after the second coat and top coat:

Despite being so inexpensive, this polish wore really well. I had no chips or tip wear on my left hand and only a small chip on my right thumb:

I wasn’t sure about this colour at first because I felt like it made me look like I had lobster hands – that is to say my hands looks ruddy and pink.

But when I got to work, my coworker proclaimed this the best colour for me, ever. 😛

I’m still not sure what the shade name “Yo Soy” means? If it’s a play on words, I’m not getting it.  I think the WildShine polishes are now discontinued, and Wet n Wild now has the MegaLast polishes which has great reviews. Have you tried the MegaLast polishes? Any shades to recommend?

And this week’s random object is my electric toothbrush:
wetnwild_yosoy11
Sadly, this one is on its last legs – it doesn’t hold a charge anymore. I’ve had it for about 3 years so it’s not bad. What I loved about this one is that there’s a light indicator if I’m applying too much pressure while brushing. The replacement version doesn’t have that.  What kind of toothbrush do you use? Manual or electric?  What brand?

  1. Yo Soy is Spanish…”I am”, I think? Technically, you don’t need the “Yo”, but…if they just called it Soy, it wouldn’t seem Spanish. Anyway I think it’s a play on the color of soybeans, as well! And that’s my 3 yrs of high school Spanish.

Love this on you! 😀 And yeah, like a sailboat is a great description.

I was reading about how there are these companies setting up fancy nail polish factories in Luxembourg. IDGI considering how tiny and rich that country is!

    1. Oh good to know about the Spanish translation! I was racking my brain! I never took Spanish in HS so I would not have guessed. I did think the “Soy” aspect was about the colour… now I know! Thanks!

So crazy about nail polish factories in Luxembourg. I guess that’s how certain places build up their niche products… there must be some sort of tax exemption / credits associated with it or else I can’t see how it works cost-wise.

  2. Your colleague is right though, the shade looks pretty on you. Then again tons of shades compliments your skin tone/ hands. I own 2 of these wet n wild polishes and both shades have lasted decently on my nails after a couple of days. And for the price I was quiet surprised too.

  3. Wow, what a great polish, especially considering the price! I would’ve thought this colour would make you have corpse hands because it looks like foundation in the bottle, but it looks very pretty and classy on you. Yo Soy sounds like the name of a soy milk brand, lol.
It’s astounding they made this in Luxembourg…how?!
Electric toothbrush user here! Although mine doesn’t have a light indicator telling me I’m using too much pressure…that would actually be really handy!

    1. I find light cremes can sometimes make my skin look really pink. I kind of teeter between being warm toned and neutral. When I compare my skin with my Asian friends, they’re more yellow than me.
Now I want to visit Luxembourg. Sounds like it would be a boring city though… but very laid back and expensive! Like friggin Stockholm where Starbucks coffee costs $12 CAD! 😮
For years I resisted electric toothbrushes because I was worried they’d be too rough on my gums but now I can’t go back! Do you use Oral B?

      1. That makes sense, your skin does seem more pink-toned compared to most Asians!
Starbucks in Stockholm is $12 CAD? AHH! As if SB isn’t already expensive enough…
I felt the same way about using electric toothbrushes! Manual just isn’t the same anymore. Yes, I use Oral B too!

  4. You haven’t seen lobster hands until you’ve seen me wear a nude polish. I might actually do that again… just for fun! 😀

I agree with your co-worker, this shade looks nice on you.

As for the toothbrush… I use a manual toothbrush. Yes, I’m doing all the work myself…

    1. So do you ever wear nude polishes? What type of ‘nudes’ work for you?
I resisted the lure of an electric toothbrushes for ages but now I’m so lazy about using a manual toothbrush. But I do still use a manual one for the mornings – I prefer it also for tongue brushing! 😀

  5. The Wild Shine polishes haven’t been discontinued. That bottle is actually the new redesigned bottle WNW came out with a year or 2 ago. All the old shaped bottles I see at Dollar Tree & Family Dollar (which is awesome as I’ve scored lots of limited edition & discontinued shades for $1 or less). Here in the US they have both the Wild Shine & MegaLast polishes. The Wild Shine are around $1 & MegaLast are $2.99 I think.

    1. Oh that’s good to know these aren’t discontinued. Normally Dollarma carries discontinued products so that’s why I thought they were. On my next trip to the US, I’m going to hit up a dollar store! I think I would lose my mind.

        1. Just seems like they carry lots of branded products that are discontinued! We have some here but not a lot. Most of the stuff at Dollarama are made especially for them.

  6. I love this colour! I must keep a lookout for it. 🙂
The colour looks stunning on you. Your co-worker was very right.
I have only ever tried their fast drying nail polish and it wasn’t my favourite since it chipped rather quickly but that was quite possibly because I only had it on my toes and I went to the beach wearing it. I would love to give them another try especially since they are affordable.
I don’t know if you are able to get Essence products there but if you are able to I think you would love a colour of theirs called Dare It Nude.

    1. Thank you! 🙂
I’m not a big fan of fast drying polishes – for some reason they chip quickly on me. But I do use a fast dry top coat which I love (and is responsible for how long lasting my polishes are in general – I use the brand Poshe). Give the Wild Shine a try. Or one of the Mega Last ones – I’ve heard good things.
Yes we have Essence here! I’ll have a look out for that shade – thanks for the rec. I own a few Essence polishes and they’re fantastic quality. Check out the Halloween nails I did last year with Essence:

      1. Top coats can be such a lifesaver!
I will definitely have a lookout for Wild Shine and the Mega last polishes. Wet n’ Wild seems to be a wonderful brand considering how affordable it is.
I also love the Essence polishes. Almost all the polishes I own are from them. You can’t go wrong especially for that price. I have never been one to spend a ton on a nail polish since it’s not really something that I generally gravitate towards when strolling through beauty isles so they are perfect for me.
That Halloween tutorial you did looks wonderful. If you want another Essence orange I’m sure you’ll love Redvolution. It’s a very pretty redish-orange which I love wearing on my toes in summer. 🙂

        1. I love how Essence polishes come in smaller bottles (not mini bottles, I don’t like those – the brushes always suck on those!) because who really uses up a FULL size bottle of nail polish? Thanks for the rec!

  7. That polish colour really struck me. I love it!! It looks so good on your nails.

I have an electric and manual brush- I use them both equally 🙂
The manual brush is mostly to use with charcoal toothpaste so I don’t ruin my electric one.

        1. I hardly ever shop on Amazon – I really should browse on there.
Activated charcoal! I took some capsules when I was having some stomach issues – I’m undecided if it helped much.
I’ve been wanting to try the coconut oil teeth pulling thing…

    1. I never wear straight up black but I do have some black cremes to use as bases for layering. I think plain black or plain white are too stark for my taste. And, they show wear / chips really quickly.

    1. You must have a fancy model! This one is Oral B too but I think it cost around $130 but I think the really good ones are $200+ Maybe I should invest in a more expensive one.
I’m still shaking my head about the made in Luxembourg nail polish that cost $1.50.

  8. When I saw the picture, I honestly thought this was a bottle of foundation. I was like, Why is there a brush in a bottle of foundation – hehe!

Your co-worker is right – great shade on you! Totally Lol’d at the lobster hands comment! 😀

    1. Haha, yeah it could be a foundation shade for someone who’s really fair! 😛 Hmm but that’s a good idea, a brush for a foundation. Instead of pouring or pumping it out, you just brush it on… 😛
Thanks! I think my summer tan is throwing off my judgement lately on colours…

  9. I think this nude looks great on you! I don’t think it would do anything for me at all though. I really love Wet N’ Wild polishes, but I haven’t tried any that are in this particular bottle. It looks pretty long wearing so i’ll have to give some a shot!
I was just in Luxembourg in July and lemme tell ya, never again! haha. I attempted to go to the City Centre for some walking around and shopping, but I could not find parking anywhere! There were all these signs for parking garages but I couldn’t find them at all- after about 45-60 minutes of driving around, I finally gave up and drove home haha!

    1. I just saw your WnW Megalast polish in I Need A Refresh Mint and it’s gorgeous! I’m going to get that colour one of these days! (but I do agree, not that minty looking, the shade)
Oh my gosh, what a weird thing about Luxembourg – no parking but signs for parking? So odd! Too bad you didn’t get to walk around! If we visit, I think we’ll just use the public transportation – I hope they have a good public transit system?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I know, I was disappointed that we couldn’t walk around and explore! I had my Mom in the car with me too, she was helping me look..and nada! We just could not figure it out haha.
I’m sure they do have good public transit system (haven’t tried it though). With there being so many people there in such a tiny country- i’m sure most people take advantage of it!

  10. I have this polish in the shade Blazed which I’ve used only once (2015) and I myself love the formulation but not a fan of the brush compared to the new WnW megalast polish.
    And this color is stunning!
