Burberry Nail Polish No. 200 Steel Grey

Since the weather is turning a bit cooler, I thought I’d finally wear this polish which I bought in January during one of my crazy no-holds-barred hauls:
hudsons_bay_haul2016_7
Steel Grey caught my eye because of its greige tone and golden shimmer.

And let’s be frank, that Burberry packaging suckers me in every time.

The full name of this polish is Burberry Icon Colour Nail Polish. ย I’m surprised that this isn’t called a Nail Varnish or Nailย Lacquer since that’s what all the high-end brands prefer… Nail Polish is so, pedestrian. ๐Ÿ˜›

The outer cap removes to reveal a plastic cap that’s much easier to handle.

The colour is quite eye catching in the bottle – the base is a neutral grey, but it is warmed up by a golden shimmer so the overall colour registers as an olive-y grey.
burberry_steel_grey_5
The formula is a bitย goopy but I didn’t experience issues with the formula. It is nearly a one coater.
burberry_steel_grey_6
A second coat evened out everything, but where did the shimmer go?!!
burberry_steel_grey_14
This polish reeled me in with the fine golden shimmers as apparent in the bottle. Part of my brain already knew that the shimmer wouldn’t register as strongly on the nails but I still had to try it for myself.
burberry_steel_grey_9
Yup, the shimmer is non-existent on the nails. I really should listen to my brain more, huh. ๐Ÿ˜›
burberry_steel_grey_7
The hidden shimmers are somewhat apparent under certain lights.
burberry_steel_grey_12
Despite the case of the missing shimmers, it’s still a very chic looking polish. ย My coworkers gushed over how this colour looked on me. I felt the colour was just ok – nothing terribly unique.
burberry_steel_grey_15
Similar to fivezero, I found the brush to be lacking. The blunt shape isn’t the best to nestle against the nail bed. The width was also problematic – I had to turn the brush sideways to apply to my pinkie fingers. ย Also, I found the nylon material Burberry used to create the brush to be a bit stiff and dragged the polish slightly during application.

And to add insult to injury, I experienced significant chipping. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The random item today is a mechanical pencil that I picked up in an Asian stationary store nearby.

It has a poop-shaped topper and reads:

Oh you!*

This polish is made in Luxembourg, which is apparently a hub for nail polish manufacturing now.
burberry_steel_grey_8
This costsย C$23 for 8ml. ย This bottle almost feels like a mini nail polish rather than a full sized bottle – it’s quite deceptive with the big metal cap on. This is the only Burberry nail polish I own, and I’m unlikely to buy another unless they revamp the brush and give me more than 8ml! Given there are so many nail polish options out there, both high-end and lower-end – I’m not too sad about not getting more Burberry polishes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you have any higher end branded nail polishes? Did they deliver on expectations?

* ย And “crazy shit” is also quite apropos for today. This isn’t a political blog, but I want to wish all my American readers a good Election Day. Please go out to vote! ย I sincerely hope everything will turn out well. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Just goes to show how different products work on different people! My one coworker loved this so much I’m half tempted to just give it to her. ๐Ÿ˜› Perhaps if I found an interesting colour at TKMaxx (Winners) I’d consider picking one up!

  1. LMAO at the Crazy Shit! And yeah. I can’t look.

This color is so pretty in the bottle. Very Illamasqua-like. Too bad the shimmer doesn’t show up well, but this is a really nice dark grey. Not too cool-toned, which is why I tend not to like a lot of greys on me.

Burberry packaging is glorious! I find high-end polishes I’ve tried are so hit & miss. The “worth it” really good ‘uns have been Chanel (new formula) and Dior.

    1. I’m always a sucker for the Burberry check. Not sure why!
I’ve tried Dior but not Chanel, I’ll have to make it a point to redeem Optimum Points for one, next time there’s a points event! I did really like Dior.

Yes, you’re right, the colour in the bottle is really Illamasqua-like. Greys are chameleons, I find. I did like the warm tone of this one.

    1. It’s overall really nice but I’m not sure I’d shell out money for another Burberry polish. There are so many cheaper options! Like the Milani you showed. I hope I can find those here.

  2. Ugh, SO disappointing that the shimmers did not show up! You’re right, it’s pretty on the nails, but nothing special without the shimmer. Certainly does not warrant the price tag, especially with the way it lasted on you. And the blunt brush…what??

This shade reminds me of an Illamasqua polish, for some reason! I was just telling a coworker a few weeks ago that grey polishes are so chic, and she looked at me like I had two heads.

    1. Yeah, I bought the polish based on how it looked in the bottle. It’s probably going to just sit in the box for years now until I do a declutter and probably pass it to a friend. That’s how it always happens!

Grey polishes ARE so chic! I’m all about it this year. I’ve still got at least 6 more to try out that I bought this year. ๐Ÿ˜† Your coworker will see the errors of her ways when you rock the grey polishes!

  3. That colour looks beautiful on you!

I feel like almost everything I’ve read or heard about Burberry is that while the packaging is stunning, the amount of product you get is so minimal. I remember seeing KathleenLights talk about a blush (I think it was a blush..) and it was 50% blush, 50% empty space inside. Then the product itself was just okay… it’s too bad because their packaging is just amazing!

    1. It’s so true, the packaging almost overwhelms the product inside. I have half the mind to depot the blushes but I couldn’t bring myself to it! I have 2 Burberry blushes and one I really like the other is meh… I’m sure the packaging costs more than the product inside!

  4. I kind of like it without the shimmer Stashy!
Nice colour but shame about the chipping.

Yeah – Good luck to our American friends for the election! Apparently “move to Canada” searches on Google have dramatically risen in the last few hours!

    1. I do like the base colour, but I’d love it if the shimmer peeked out a bit like a peekaboo…

*sigh* now reading this comment after the fact, it’s all feels so naive. They crashed the Canadian immigration website before the winner was announced. My knee-jerk reaction was, no, you can’t just move here. You voted him in or allowed this to happen. You stay there and FIX it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  5. I’m pretty sure Markwins (the actual company behind the brand Wet N Wild) makes Burberry’s cosmetics. Markwins used to make Calvin Klein’s beauty products too (until a few years ago when their contract ran out and CK chose a new manufacturer).

    1. Really? I have heard of Markwins – I did not know they make high-end makeup? I thought they did cheap makeup only. I have one CK eye shadow and it is excellent! I wish I’d bought more before they were discontinued…

  6. I recently had a chance to try out nail polish and really, I cannot stand wearing it! I kept knocking everywhere and constantly chipping it!!!! The friend that painted my nails gave me an annoyed look every time I’d show her the damage to be fixed… ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›

  7. ๐Ÿ˜‚pedestrian wahahahaha

Sorry to hear about the logic defying purchase. (lol listen to your brain cracks me up) Better luck next time. At least you can have a pretty packaging as part of you stash ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Well, in cases like this, I get so annoyed that I end up wanting it out of my life! I know some of my friends would probably enjoy this so I’ll likely pass it onto them. Yes, it’s an expensive lesson to learn! ๐Ÿ˜›
