Sephora VIB Sale Fall 2016 Haul

And here’s the reckoning. Truth time: I placed 3 orders online and made 1 in-store purchase. 😀
sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_2
I requalified for VIB Rouge for next year again! But, not because of my own purchases, but my friends pooled their purchases with mine (I’d say the breakdown was 30% me, 70% them). At this rate, I’ll requalify for VIB Rouge every year! 😆 I’ll just showing the items I bought for myself, not ones for my friends.

For the most part, I stuck to my list.

Viseart Eyeshadiow Palette in 01 Neutral Matte
Yeah, this is FINALLY mine! *Rubs hands like Mr. Burns*

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anita
I’m a doofus and dinged the tip when I swiveled up the lipstick. You’d think I’ve never used a lipstick before in my life.  Also, how did I not know that the cap of this is magnetic? 😮 Hours of fun await me.

Surratt Beauty Revelee Lash Curler
This is a back up so only photos of the box.  Read my review on the original I bought to see the naked curler in action.

Surratt Beauty Artistique Blush in Se Pomponner
It’s so bright, I can’t wait to slap this on my cheeks!

Shu Uemura Murakami x Shu Uemura Collection:
Blossom Nova Eye Trio – Cosmikawaii
Clarifying Cleansing Oil
I’d originally listed the Drawing Pencil in M Purple Black 04 but decided I didn’t “need” it right at this moment. That particular shade is available in Shu’s regular lineup. But gah, how cute is the packaging of these?

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Coconut

Bésame Boudoir Long Hair Finishing Powder Brush
Yessss, I bought this! And it is delightful! I’m cuddling with this in bed.

Things I didn’t list / intend to purchase, but ended up in my basket:
sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_10
Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow in 05 Banana Split and 10 Rolling in the Grass
These were on clearance. 😳 They’re not colours I’d wear regularly but I saw reviews online for these shades were positive so I decided to go bananas and roll with it! (see what I did there 😉 )

sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_11
Clinique Cheek Pop in Heather Pop
I blame my friend for this. She ordered the Pink Pop colour and it reminded me that I’ve wanted to redeem for Heather Pop at Shoppers Drug Mart during Optimum Points events but they don’t carry it. I also blame Shoppers then.

Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (forgot to take a picture so here’s a stock image)
I’m so fed up with all of my current eyelid primers! The Prestige one I’ve been using is just getting old and separating in the tube. And all of the ones I’ve picked up recently are el sucko. I had a couple of deluxe samples of this Nars one ages ago and I loved it. But I swore to myself that I’d not buy this until they changed the packaging because if Urban Decay can finally change their iconic Primer Potion to a squeeze tube, surely Nars will too, one day? That day hasn’t come and I’m sick of waiting around. 😛

Sephora Favorites Beauty Sleep Set
I went into a physical Sephora store because I wanted to check out a new location that had recently opened (it wasn’t a net new location, it just moved up the street). And I wanted to see if they carried Surratt Beauty (I was on the hunt for the out of stock blush shade in Rougeur). The new location turned out to be just ok (it seemed smaller than the previous location) and they did not carry Surratt.

sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_13
I thought $38 isn’t bad for this.

So instead, I wandered around the store looking for something – anything – to buy.  I spotted this set tucked away near the entrance – I wanted this primarily for the Farmacy, Sunday Riley and Korres items. I bought just this one thing at the store – go me! And they gave me this tote:
sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_14
I think I’ve got 5 or 6 of these Sephora totes now, collecting dust. Does anyone actually use these?

It was only after I’d placed all 3 of my online orders that I realized I didn’t choose any samples with any of the orders. I missed out on 9 samples in total! 😮 I was more concerned about remembering to use my ebates than anything else. I also noticed that ebates for Sephora was 8% in the days leading up to the VIB sale but on the day of, it dropped down to 4%. They must time these thing, huh! 😉

Is it me, or does it seem that a lot more people who are VIB Rouge lately? It’s as if the percentage of VIB Rouge members have doubled in the last 5 years:

sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_16
I have no idea of these percentages hold true, I just really wanted to incorporate pie charts in this post!

I guess it makes sense since the prices of makeup are increasing every year, so it’s probably easier to attain VIB Rouge nowadays. Or are people just buying more makeup, and / or buying higher end makeup these days?  I do wonder if one day Sephora would increase the limit to qualify for VIB Rouge in order to keep the perceived “prestige” level.

So, did you pick up anything from the Sephora VIB sale?  Please link  your haul post in the comments below if you did – I love reading them!

  2. Wheeee that is some haulage! The Bésame brush is beautiful.

The Surratt blush is SO PINK. Holy. Did you get a case, too?

So glad you got an Audacious lippie! Yes the cases are magnetic – I kinda hate it but it’s cool, too. The Burberry lipsticks are also like that.

I placed 2 Sephora orders as VIB and will post them as soon as the 2nd order arrives. 🙂

    1. I do have the Surratt case from when I hauled that brand before:

But I don’t love it. It’s kind of flimsy – I’d rather just put the blush in a z-palette.

Can’t wait to see your haulage! 😀

      1. I feel like at the price point, Surratt stuff should come in nice, individual cases! But the products themselves do look gorgeous.

My 2nd order actually arrived first! My 1st order is in Richmond BC after 5 days. Argh, what is up Canada Post?!

        1. Surratt seems to follow Japanese makeup in terms of packaging. They all seem to favour refill pans with compacts sold separately.

I know Sephora has a Canadian warehouse now, is that where the Canadian depot is located?

  3. Those shadows are great I’ve got a super bright yellow from MAC – I love the look of that green, bet it would look pretty under the bottom lashes.
Yay for finally getting an Audacious lippie, I pulled mine out and totally forgot it was magnetic, I love how it twirls down!
Interested to hear your thoughts on Blue Moon, I’ve heard so-so reviews.
That brush still looks like a dustpan brush to me, looking forward to finding o ut how you get on with it!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m going to try wearing the yellow on the center of my lids to see how it looks. The green is stunning! I think I could get away with wearing it on my lower lashes even for work.
I am hoping I hate the Sunday Riley stuff since they’re so pricey! 😆
I can’t argue that the face brush doesn’t look like a dustpan brush – but it is SO soft. You know that ecotools Face & Body brush you have? This is like that, but way less dense. I have that ecotools brush too so maybe I’ll do a comparison.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Hmmm that sounds intriuing since we both agree that eco tools brush is basically useless. If I do manage to place a black friday order I may check out getting that green shade if it’s still available it looks so pretty and I’m really loving jewel tones at the moment.
That’s how I felt about Luna, don’t wanna like it but do! Good Genes I still haven’t decided on, I’ve used it for 2 weeks then forgot about it for a month several times – I feel like I’m coming to the end of it before I’ve properly tried or made up my mind on it!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I don’t think the ecotools is completely useless – it’s just not good for bronzing. I like to smooth over my whole face to blend out any powdery finish or harsh lines. I actually use it fairly regularly!
I’m still unsure about the whole sleeping mask trend… it’s just another name for NIGHT CREAM!

  4. It starts all neutral and then these two Sephora’s eyeshadows !!! Are you planning an exotic trip by chance … Such fun shade – you go girl !
You were very good and you bought such great products. So what about Viseart?????
I was bad … so bad $$$$$$$$$$$$$! (Skincare Bad)

    1. Skincare at Sephora is ridiculously pricey! I don’t buy skincare there at all. I don’t trust all these niche brands they have there like Tata Harper and Tatcha.
I still haven’t tried the Viseart yet – possibly this weekend! Hah yes those crazy colours are just for fun – maybe on the weekends. No plans for anywhere exotic.

  5. Ahmazing haul! I am so jealous of that Sephora favorites set- I was all set to buy it and a few other sets and then I realized I wasn’t even vib ( not sure how that happened) 😫. I should have asked someone to purchase for me but didn’t even think of it!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Aw man! That sucks. I honestly would not have achieved VIB status if not for all my friends pooling our purchases together. I hope you get a chance to get that set!

  6. Yay, you got these Shu Uemura products! Cuuuuuute!

The beauty sleep set looks really nice too!

I like it that Sephora gives away these tote bags. I’m with you thinking “who uses these?”, but I’ve got so much waiting-to-be-photographed make-up and skin care stuff in bags that I’m thinking these totes could be useful! Or you could store your empties in these bags. Or give them to a charity shop. 🙂

    1. I just could not resist those Shu Uemura packaging. It’s not the first time that I’ve succumbed to their cute LE packaging! 😛

Hmm yes I could use these to hold stuff – right now I have my to be photographed items stowed away in baskets. My SO gets really antsy seeing things laying about in bags. 😛

  7. Teehee, I’ve been waiting to see what you picked up! On a total items level, it doesn’t look like you went CRAZY, but on a dollar level, I’m sure it made a huge dent in your low-buy budget (hellooooo Viseart palette)!
Omg, that Surratt blush is glorious. The shade will look so nice on you!
Haha, you will actually WEAR those two Sephora eyeshadow shades? I actually love that Rolling in the Grass shade!
I agree that more people are hitting Rouge status in the last year or two. I’ve wondered why too. Maybe the increased prevalence of beauty YouTubers/Instagrammers? Even with the price hikes, I would never be able to buy $1,000 at Sephora for myself!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes, the dollar amount will be what will be painful. 😛
I totally will wear those colourful eye shadows! I’m thinking the yellow paired with plummy tones. And the green wont’ register as GREEN if I smoke it out. That’s what I’m envisioning, anyway!
I don’t know if I could reach $1,000 myself either. I did get kind of “close” on my own back in 2014 but I couldn’t justify spending another $300 to reach it. It was tempting but… meh. It’s just so funny that 2015, my No-Buy year, was when I reached Rouge! The power of group purchasing, I guess.

  8. Wow! Lots of great stuff! I’m super curious about the viseart palette and almost got it- but I have palettes I haven’t even used so I couldn’t justify it.

I got the Shiseido cotton pads! I totally thought of you. I can’t wait to to use the crack cotton haha! I ordered both at VIB rouge and VIB but I honestly can’t remember what I got haha

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh trust me, I have palettes that I haven’t even used too! 😛 I just have been wanting the Viseart for ages!

Ha, I’m so glad you got the Shiseido facial cottons at 20% discount, it’s totally a responsible thing to do with the discount! Will you post your Sephora sale haul?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I figured if I was going to get the cotton pads saving a bit of money would make it more worth it which it did 🙂

I was too impatient when I got my Sephora stuff – I already started taking things out if the packaging and separating what I keep at my home, my parents place and work (yup! I do that) so it’s not worth posting anymore

  9. That face brush is a total winner 😍😍😍 Your haul is full of wins.

Surely you do ‘need’ that Shu Umemura pencil? 😂 Good self control over there? 😉 Have you seen the Shu Umemura Xmas palette and that new cushion foundation? What do you think of them?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I think that face brush is my favourite item from this haul! I just love it. ❤

After my brown eyeliner swatch fest post, I had a moment of realization that I don't need to buy another eye liner for probably 3 years. 😛

Hrm, I'm not a fan of cushion foundations. I just don't understand the point of them! I got one earlier this year and have held off doing a ranty type of post. Maybe it's time to post that sucker.

    1. I’ve worn the Nars Anita a couple of times now and the colour is great but… I don’t love LOVE the formula! I find it a tad drying! I will do a full review once I’ve worn it more.

The Viseart better is as awesome as everyone says it is!

  10. I’m drying to try Surrat products (ANY!) and the Viseart palette! I swear though, how can I buy yet another palette? I need help justifying it. I must have 100 palettes, it’s ridiculous and I have to hide anything now because my husband is onto the palette thing. Yet I feel I need more. Like, you know…. life would be more complete if I had more, especially this one (and I want to try Violet Voss too)

    1. I think I need to stop with the palette buying too. Before this year I owned maybe 3 palettes. And it’s gotten out of hand, very quickly! I’m still a die hard singles fan, I’ve realized. Palettes are so enticing but I’ve never been 100% satisfied with all the colours in any of the palettes I’ve tried.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I’m not sure how many palettes I have but I know it’s way too many. I gave some older ones away too. I really need to stop buying them. I saw this after I went to Sephora today and bought …. yet another palette. But this one was different. It was the Estee Edit palette with the gritty shadow and the highlighters. I was trying to decide which one to get and realized you get both for 59.00 – so how could I not get that? OMG

        Liked by 1 person

          1. Well, I stood there swatching both of the palettes for like 20 minutes and staring trying to decide which one to get. And then there was only one box left so I was like…. OH EXCELLENT – the choice is made. And I picked up the box and realized it was both palettes and they came together so I felt like I won a prize or something. LOLOLOLOLLL

            Liked by 1 person

            1. I love it when something is the LAST ONE, because I always think, “well, it’s meant to be then!” Little do I know they probably have another 10 in the back stockroom. 😆 Yes, you won a prize of being the best consumer, ever! 😉

              Liked by 1 person

              1. Not even the stockroom – the drawer next to my feet! There were probably 40 more! LOL! My bag is still ripening on the my dresser, maybe tomorrow, I’ll crack it open and swatch it again. The colors were gorgeous in the palettes. But I really do need to stop buying them.

  11. Those She Umera products have such adorable packaging!!

Also, yes, I do use any free totes that I receive – I lived in Germany for a couple years and during that time, I acquired the habit of using totes for my groceries. XD I also use totes to carry any binders that don’t fit in my already-full backpack. When I have clinical and only need my papers and a couple reference books, I use totes for that as well!! 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I do carry reusable totes around with me for groceries / shopping since some stores here charge for plastic bags (plus, bad for the environment!). That’s good you have so many uses for totes! I just mainly use them for groceries but I like the thin nylon ones that fold up into little squares.

  12. I’ve been on a haul kick within the past month or so. Stay tuned for future posts! Anyway, very nice haul. I actually didn’t take advantage of the VIB perks because I’m trying to cut back (yeh, right). But I’ve been curious about that deodorant brand and am now curious about that NARS primer.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The deodorant is my favourite of all the natural ones I’ve tried – really soothing and the texture is creamy unlike most others I’ve tried that are crumbly and rough.
Can’t wait to see what you’ve been hauling! 😛

      Liked by 1 person

  13. Your haul is making me jealous – mine was so boring. I was not into it this year.

That NARS lipstick looks so pretty – I wish I would have picked one of those up.

You got the dustpan sweeper brush – yay! 😉

If Sephora increases the limit for VIB Rouge I’ll lose my sh!t – if anything they should add more benefits for Rouges. Their reward systems suck. Although I’m not sure I’m actually going to hit Rouge this year.

I use my Sephora bags to tote things around for Maggie – they are kind of an awkward size tho!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I feel kind of uninspired by Black Friday this year – unsure if I’ll end up picking up anything.
True, I wouldn’t be opposed Sephora improving the Rouge benefits. Like, if Rouges are allowed to redeem their points for % or $ off, that would rock my world! I know they tried it as a pilot in the US – I’m not sure what became of that.
Yeah those totes are wide and slim so it’s good maybe for binders or files but not much else really.

    2. Wow, now that’s a haul! You got me beat, girl! I love that you got the Viseart Neutral Matte Palette. I have it and I love it. In fact, that was one reason why I wondered if I “needed” the UD Naked Ultimate Basics Matte Palette, but you know how it is. I love so many of your purchases: the Besame face powder brush, the adorable Shu Uemura cleansing oil, the gorgeous NARS lipsticks etc etc. Well done

And i still need to try that deodorant! 🙂

    1. Having 20% off the whole Sephora site is so good yet dangerous. It’s great to stock on staples, but then I start talking myself into buying things I don’t really NEED just because it’s discounted! But, a lot of these items have been on my wish list for ages so I’m glad that I’m finally checking them off the list!
The deodorant is fab, I cracked it open as soon as I received it!

I definitely think Social media has increased beauty spending. More and more regular people are getting into hauls to discuss over YouTube and blogging

    1. I agree with your assessment! Social media has created consumers of us all. I’ve already decided that I’ll scale back on the hauling next year. Last year I went on a No Buy for the whole year and this year I’ve more than made up for it with hauling!

  16. You went all out this time!! Your must be on a low buy forever now. lol. I dream of that Viseart palette!! The face brush looks so soft and luxurious. How cute is that Shu Uemura set? I really just went on Sephora looking for SHU stuff and they don’t carry it? I love Clinique blushes they are so pretty, versatile, and I love how they blend flawlessly. I am afraid of that Surratt hot pink blush, I would end up looking like your art, for sure. I can’t wait to see you wear the yellow eyeshadow with the pink blush but I know that will NEVER happen. I used to love Lavinilla but it turned my armpits brown and I was soooooo sad because it worked great! NARS….YASSS love Anita now you are speaking my language girl!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Only some Sephora locations carry the Shu Uemura, I’ve noticed. And some only carry a small selection, if they carry it.
The Surratt blush is pigmented but if you use a fluffy brush and tap off the excess, it’s totally manageable! Haha, I will never wear all those colours together, likely just a HINT of the yellow on my lid like a peekaboo effect!
Oh no! I didn’t know Lavinilla can turn armpits brown – yikes! I’ll have to keep and eye on that. Was it gradual or did it happen suddenly?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh that makes sense, I looked online but maybe my local Sephora has Shu.
I was joking, I knew you wouldn’t wear them together.
Lavanilla was so gradual that it took months and I had no irritation at all. I just lifted my arms in the mirror one day and they were dark so I kept checking and they kept getting darker! I panicked and ran for Google and it turns out that some deodorants can have that effect, especially if naturally formulated. I’m not sure what ingredient causes it. I’ll have check my current (Jason’s) deodorant and compare.
