Stash Dash: Nov 13 – 19

It was nice to have a slightly slower pace on the blog this past week! I’ll be continuing with 2 or 3 posts a week until the end of November.

Here are the posts that when up last week, in case you were too preoccupied with watching the Super Moon:

Project Pan: MAC Powder Blush in Cubic

Using this blush daily has really made me appreciate it again! After Project Pan is over, I’ll likely not touch this blush for another 6 months though, since I’ll be so tired of it! 😉

So many Pretties!

• I went into the COS store for the first time – the stuff if so pricey for what they are!  In case you’re not familiar with COS, it’s a clothing store owned by H&M. It’s higher-end and has a very minimalist Scandinavian / Japanese aesthetic. I did eye this glass bobble necklace:

The bobbles are made of hollow glass like Christmas ornaments and feels so weightless and floaty.  Even though it costs C$70… I can’t stop thinking about it. I might get it – what do you think?

• Went out for dinner on Thursday with some girlfriends I haven’t seen in a few months. It was really good to see them! We chatted about so many things (the election, jobs, relationships, clothes, and MAKEUP) and I drank a bit more than I should on a weeknight. 😉 My voice was a bit hoarse the next day.

Source.  We were seated at the right side along the mirrored wall.

We also had amazing food at a still fairly new restaurant in town called Piano Piano.  It’s the second time I’ve been there but their first – I would describe the food as unpretentious comforting Italian fare: we ate pizza and pasta.

• My SO and I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and it was fairly entertaining. It’s darker than Harry Potter films (especially the earlier ones) and I felt there were some pacing issues, but the movie sets up the new world and characters well for future films. One gripe I have though: Eddie Redmayne annoys the heck out of me! He’s a mumbler and I find him creepy, not endearing. 😛 Also, the term “No-Maj” was the best they could come up with as the American word for “Muggle”?!! Really!  What about “Naybler” or “Boolee”. I just made those up in less than 15 seconds and they [subjectively] suck less than “No-Maj”! Overall, I give this film 7/10

• I finally got my flu shot for this year – I’ve been getting a flu shot every year since I was in high school.  It’s not a miracle cure but I typically do not get full-blown knocked-on-my-ass sick during the flu season. I find it funny that it is always the people who say they “don’t believe in it” and never get the flu shot, who are sick as a dog every flu season, without fail.

How was last week for you?

    1. Lol, I know people go nuts over Eddie Redmayne. The movie Jupiter Ascending was on tv last night (terrible, terrible movie) and when Eddie Redmayne came on screen, my SO would turn to me and mumble incoherently, lol!
You make a solid point about the colourless necklace going with everything! I think I’ll stop by the store on the way home today…

  2. I’m glad I watched Doctor Strange instead of Fantastic Beasts yesterday. Seems like the latest Harry Potter book is more interesting than this movie. That necklace has “conversation starter” written all over it. I’d be eyeing it too, but not sure about that price…

    1. That necklace is a conversation starter, for sure! I actually considered hacking it but when I looked up suppliers online for those glass bobbles, I’d have to buy 100s at a time.
You made a good choice to watch Doctor Strange over Fantastic Beast.

    1. COS is new to North America, I think. The COS store in Toronto only opened this summer. COS stands for “Collection of Style”. 🙄 It was launched over in Europe in 2007!
Surprisingly the glass feels pretty sturdy on that necklace. It would break if dropped on hardwood or cement floor, I imagine though!

  3. Ahhh, I really, really want to watch Fantastic Beasts! Why do they even need an American term for “Muggle”….why can’t they just use Muggle? haha.
I’ve looked at the COS website before and all of their clothes are bleh! You’re right, very Scandinavian/Japanese, which I guess just isn’t my personal style. But umm, yes you need that necklace in your life.
I get my flu shot every year too (although I haven’t this year, whoops). I also roll my eyes at people who say they don’t believe in the flu shot. Like why does it matter, just get it anyways, it comes at no cost to you.

    1. I know. They could have just gone with Muggle. So silly.
I’ve decided I’ll wait until at least Friday to check out that necklace in case COS has a Black Friday sale. If it’s still there, I’ll pick it up regardless if it’s on sale or not. 😛

I don’t know why people don’t get flu shots but then I was trying to think like the average person (ever since the America election, I’ve been making more of an effort to step out of my head space to try to understand things from a different …) and then it hit me. I think they equate the flu shot with over-usage of anti-bacteria products or the over-prescription of antibiotics. Just think about it, if all you hear is that anti-bacterial products and antibiotics make bacteria more resistant, they probably think flu vaccines fall into that camp. But try to educate people the differences between bacteria and viruses… that’s another challenge! People are just inundated with conflicting messages. And heck, I’d rather not jabbed in the arm with a needle annually too. 😛

      1. Hmm, how interesting. I’ve never really thought of that argument against getting the flu shot before, but it does make sense that some people may think that…except for the fact that the flu vaccine ISN’T AN ANTIBIOTIC 😦 I know a few people who say they don’t get it because they always get sick from the shot, and another that says that the vaccine is just a shot in the dark because the vaccine is usually a different strain of the flu than whatever is going around. Oh well, to each their own, I guess.

          1. LMAO that’s exactly what I was just thinking when I read “let nature do its job”. In that case, guess we don’t need vaccines for stuff like polio, hepatitis, and tetanus – we’ll just let our bodies build up immunity to those diseases!

  4. That necklace is a stunner!!! I probably wouldnt be let myself buy it, being little clumsy here and there, i would probably break it soon after the purchase :))
Im dying for a date night, that would involve a movie or two 🙂 Great recap xox

    1. That glass bobble necklace should probably come with a warning – no clumsy people or kids allowed! 😆 I’m clumsy but I’ll take my chances.
You need a date night – mommy and daddy sans kiddos! Get a babysitter!

  5. Your review of fantastic beasts strongly indicates to me that you are in the wrong career field. I need you to quit you job and go review movies for a living, hehe. Yeah, I’m not going to go see it because the ads aren’t sucking me in. I agree that no-maj is quite dumb, though. I just don’t want anything to ruin Harry Potter for me!

    1. Haha! I don’t think I’d make much money doing movie reviews! Yes, avoid the movie if you don’t want to spoil your Harry Potter purity. I just feel like they’re trying so hard to tie in some random background story and force it down our throats. The movie is more eye candy than real substance.
