November 2016 Low-Buy Accountability

Ouch. November Low-Buy was more like a Go-Buy… I mean, what was I expecting? Sephora VIB sale and Black Friday – why did they have to be together in the same month?
lowbuy_201611_2
I also bought some stuff from Winners and Avon. 😳

Sephora VIB Sale Haul
sephora_vib_haul_nov_2016_2
Counting only makeup items, with the 20% off discount, this came to $204.80. My savings was $51.20 though! 😉

Black Friday Haul
blackfriday2016_2
Total came to $172 but I saved $133.50! 😮  I’m actually pretty impressed by this.

Earlier in the month I went to Sally Beauty Supply to stock up on some nail and hair care stuff:
lowbuy_201611_10
I’d recently finished up the big bottle of cuticle remover and nail polish remover so these are replacements.
lowbuy_201611_11
Nail buffers, pumice stuff – no makeup – so this counts as $0. 😀

Avon stuff:
lowbuy_201611_3
• Makeup Setting Spray
• Anew Clinical Eye Lift Dual Eye System
I needed to replace the setting spray since I used it up last month. And the eye cream was on a special deal for less than half price. I’ve been obsessing over my under eye area lately. 😛  Also no makeup, so $0.

Winners stuff – I found these over the course of a few visits:

Sukin Antioxidant Eye Serum
lowbuy_201611_12
Read above re: under eye area (it’s been really dehydrated lately). Jodi of A Brash Attitude really liked this so I had to try it for myself too!

I was really psyched for the China Glaze Rebel collection and I was pleased to find these at Winners!
lowbuy_201611_4
• Don’t Mesh With Me
• Heroine Chic
• Pearl Jammin’
These were $5.99 each. I’m still on the hunt for “Dope Taupe” from that collection… NEED it!

W7 The Naughty Nine eye shadow palettes in Mid Summer Nights and Arabian Nights ($6.99 each):
lowbuy_201611_5
I was SUPER excited to have spotted these at Marshalls! I’d first heard about these little gems from Rachael of Helpless Whilst Drying and I was curious about the quality (plus, I’d been so impressed by the W7 foundation I tried as part of my $20 Makeup Challenge). These are supposed to be dupes for the MAC Eye Shadow x 9 palettes. The store only had 1 of each palette and luckily the safety seals were all intact and none had been tampered with! They also had the Bangkok Nights palette which was all purples but I passed on it because it’d be gluttonous to buy all three, right? 😆

Clean Sweep Makeup Brush Pad
lowbuy_201611_6
Another item inspired by Rachael! That girl, she’s the worst enabler! 😉 This is a copy of the original Colour Switch which sells for $25. I’ve used this a few times now and it’s pretty good. It won’t replace a proper brush cleaning but it does remove powder products better than just using a tissue.

The Brush Guard Cleaning Kit
lowbuy_201611_7
I was surprised to find this at Winners and excited to try it out. I’m a fan of Brush Guards and use them every time I wash my brushes (see how I use them here). This kit contains a brush shampoo, a drying cloth, a washing cup, a slotted drying vase, and 4 Brush Guards in various sizes. I like the illustrations on the box:

And THEN, I got this awesome polish, from none other than Miss fivezero herself: MAC Style Matters ($6)
lowbuy_201611_9
I’d commented on her blog post that I was thinking of buying this for the name alone. 😛 She’d bought a back-up bottle of this and she offered me hers – how sweet!  So we met up again – the day before the American election (I remember it so well, ahhh, it was a more innocent time, wasn’t it?).  It was so great to see her again – plus her Peanut (he’s a gummy candy monster) and lil’  baby Olive were in tow! 🙂

Grand total of my makeup purchases for November comes to… gulp… $414.75 😳  I saved $184.70 though! 😉 My November budget was $196.38. 😮 I was over by $218.37. My December budget is $200, which means I’ve already used that up entirely and then some! And this is not including what I hauled on Beauty Bay since I’m still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I’ll deal with that in December! 😛 How was your spending this past month?

Hey, let’s distract you with a blogmas post from last year! 😉 On day 6, I posted about Christmas Cards:
blogmas_day5_cards_banner
A neat story about that post. I had asked if anyone wanted the extras of the Gingerbread Zombies cards and I ended up sending them to Caryl of The Caryl Edit who lives all the way in Australia! I’d like to think she put them to good use! 😀

    1. I still have my nail polish challenge for December! 😉
Shu Shu still in the basket… I probably won’t even get to it until 2017…
You can try taking biotin for nails – I take this dissolving thing that tastes like cherry candy – I will see you and your NAILS later!

  2. Great job scoring those W7 Palettes, I keep meaning to go back and get the burgundy dupe one, I kinda want to get all the MAC ones to compare against the . I have noticed the MAC palettes have dropped in price from £30 to £25 – I’m guessing there were complaints against quality, because when have MAC ever dropped a price?! Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on them – I think Arabian Nights is the one I have – I never listed it in my review will have to check when I get home!
Going to hunt down ‘Don’t Mesh with Me’ looks like it has a beautiful glow!
That brush cleaning kit looks like a good find as well!
Sorry (totally not sorry) for enabling!

    1. I have seen MAC drop prices on a few palettes since last year – and of course, their eye shadow refill pans from $12 to $8. They realize they need to be competitive with all of the alternatives in the market especially the likes of MUG and ColourPop. I’m super excited to try these W7 palettes – you should have seen my face when I spotted these! 😀 I actually went back to your post while in the store to see which palette you had – I think it was the Summer Nights? Let me know!
Yay for Winners / TKMaxx finds! (and enabling…) 😛

      1. Ha refills have dropped for you but are still crazy expensive here, They’re like double the price of MUG here – it’s so stupid, that’s why I really struggle to say any MAC shadows are worth splashing out for, there was one I wanted when I was in at the weekend but they were out of stock in Pan and normal (was even willing to go that far!) Just looked on their website, definitely Arabian nights – it’s the only one which has golden shades in 🙂

        1. I think I have the palettes switched around! 😳
I think we discussed this before but the MUG refills work out to more expensive than MAC’s for me. I still need to try MUG though… for science!

    1. That’s not typical prices for an eye shadow palette here. It’s a really good deal. W7 is an inexpensive brand that “copies” higher end makeup and their quality is surprisingly good! I can’t wait to try the palettes!

  3. Oh my, you really went to town this month! Lol! But I’m loving everything you picked up! Those W7 palette are a gem! And those nail polishes made me drool! The look so pretty!
And if that box from the brush guard kit doesn’t make you want to clean your brushes, I don’t know what will! So cute!

    1. In the back of my mind, I thought to myself – you don’t need those polishes or the W7 palettes… but I’d be so mad at myself if I left the store without them! 😛
I’m very so lazy about washing my brushes – there’s a huge pile waiting for me and I can’t wait to try out that Brush Guard kit!

  4. Omg! I wish I went to homesense/winners because I ended up paying way more for the colour switch from Sephora!! Darn it! I have been tempted to try W7, I always see it on Amazon. The 9 pan palette I have from Mac isn’t the best so hopefully these are better than that.

  5. You know, even though you went over I feel like you’ve done a really good job of keeping yourself accountable this year. I don’t know what you spent in 2014, but it seems like you’ve made progress! And nice distraction, haha. I’m surprised none of y’all are doing Blogmas this year!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. It’s true, half the battle was accountability! Yes, 2014 was definitely worse than this year – I was shopping daily! 😮 Now, I at least have a ballpark dollar amount in mind and “try” to not over spend. 😛
I didn’t do blogmas so I can focus on reviewing all the crap I hauled this year LOL – see this post for the explanation!

      My December 2016 Goals

That’s why I’m linking back to what we did last year. It was so much fun!

  6. Ahhhh I haven’t seen those China Glazes at my Winners!! Poop. I WANT. They’re beautiful.

I also do not count things like nail polish remover in my monthly budget. Hehehehehe.

I look forward to all your reviews of your new goodies!

And yeah, my haulage was pretty bad last month, too. I’m not even gonna do a big haul post…too embarrassing XD I mean, I still have stuff coming in the mail…

And no, I don’t want to talk about the election. *@#&*§¢^!

    1. I saw the China Glazes mixed randomly with some OPIs so be careful to check thoroughly!
Nail polish removers are replacements – they shouldn’t count! It’s a universal rule. 😛
These accountability posts are kind of embarrassing for me too haha… self reported public shaming! 😛 In the mail I have the Beauty Bay order, the Sephora coupon order, MAC order…. 😳
Ugh… American politics. Now it’s like watching a train wreck.

  7. OMG, $415! :O hahah! I love the go-buy…can we do that challenge for next year?! 😛
Those China Glaze polishes…I need them in my life, right now! Especially Don’t Mesh with Me and Heroine Chic.
Awesome job scoring those W7 palettes, too! Between you and me, I think you should’ve picked up the purple palette too, hehe!
Love that Gingerbread Zombie card! I’m currently binge-watching The Walking Dead on Netflix right now, so I’m hugely into zombies at the moment.

    1. I know… I think a go-buy challenge would be huge hit! 😀
Heroine Chic was my #1 pick from the collection but when I saw the other ones, I had to get them too… no polish left behind!
Hahaha, I had all 3 of the W7 palettes in my hands and I walked around the store with them and debated whether I should get just 1, or 2 or all 3. I swear I have an angel and a devil whispering in my ears that whole time! ;lol:
Oooh the SO actually stopped watching The Walking Dead this year – he watched the season opener and then decided he was sick and tired of being jerked around, lol. Which season are you on?

      1. I’m running off to Winners this weekend to see if they have anything from this collection there. I bet you Don’t Mesh with Me won’t look at multidimensional as it does in the bottle (sigh), but Heroine Chic is going to be stunning.
Hah, the angel won out this time with the W7 palettes! 😛
Hah, I can understand why he quit…there’s so many shows where I just quit halfway through, too :/ I just finished season 2, but now I’m at a standstill, because I’m waiting for my fiancé to catch up. I watch TV while blogging, wedding planning, etc. etc., so I get through shows quickly, while he plays video games which require 100% of his attention, so he’s always behind. So frustrating! That show is a nail-biter and I want to keep watching!!

    1. Good to hear that you’ve been good – shopping-wise. I might not have adhered to my budget but at least I’m owning up to it… 😛
I’m so happy to hear that you still have your zombie card! 😀

  8. I have been seeing W7 palettes here everywhere, especially at Marshalls and Ocean State Job lot. I actually purchased the same palette and gave it to my sister as presents and she really liked it. ❤ And oh the VISEART is so tempting, I cannot wait to hear your in-depth thoughts. 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh I’m glad your sister liked the W7 palette you gave her! You’re so good – you didn’t even keep it for youself?
I’m going to put off trying the Viseart until the new year!

      1. I have a few that I purchased early this year and still havent had the chance to even open them, You know how that goes.. haha

  9. The Don’t mesh with me polish looks awesome! I’d love to see what it looks like on the nails. It seems like Marshalls/TJMAXX have a lot of awesome finds lately. I saw ABH cream contour palettes! Though they only had medium and deep. I was surprised!

    1. Ooh good luck with that! January is the toughest month to go on a no buy! I did a no buy all last year and that was the month I struggled with the most… all the sales and the winter blahs make me want to shop!

      Like

  10. Oh my goodness those are some serious hauls! Those W7 palettes look interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen those around. And I’d think a no/low-buy during this time of year would be hard for anyone. They make it so darn easy for us to fail nowadays lol.

    1. I do kind of lose my mind when it comes to makeup sales. I would kick myself if I didn’t take advantage of deals on makeup! 😛 I hadn’t heard of W7 until this year and now I see it everywhere – I think they’re primarily in the UK. I’d compare them to Elf or Wet n Wild.

    1. China Glaze is quickly becoming my 2nd favourite polish brand… it might surpass Essie one day!

I love the ickies on the cleaning kit! 🙂 They need to make a children’s cartoon out of those characters! 😆

  11. Aw, it is okay. It was sale time! ‘Go-buy’ makes a fab series though 😂

I have recently bought my first Sukin product, it’s a scrub. Your Sukin eye serum review is now highly anticipated. 😁

The Brush Guards, I must try that. You use that everytime? You are so good. I normally washes mine every week with regular shampoo 😅

    Liked by 1 person

    1. How do you like the Sukin scrub? I’ll be trying the Sukin eye serum SOON. My poor eyes are suffering!

Yes, I am very diligent about the Brush Guards! It’s now just habit. Regular shampoo works fine too – I normally use baby shampoo since it’s more gentle and don’t tend to have silicone and what-not.

      1. I’ve only used it once so far. Can’t tell whether it is working its magic yet. The beads are decent size. My skin is in dire dehydration mode *LOL* After 3 more tries, I’ll share my verdict with you 🙂

Alright, you have me convinced. I get some Brush Guards 😀
