Blogmas 2016: The Christmas Beauty Tag

Even though I decided to do a shortened Blogmas this year, I was quite challenged as to what topics to write about, since last year’s Blogmas pretty much covered all the major Christmassy topics like Christmas music, movies, gift ideas, etc. So I was excited when I spotted this tag on The Life of Kristyn blog. 😀 Problem solved! Well, for one day at least…

1. Have you been naughty or nice this year with your skincare routine?
I’ve been NICE! I always wash my face before bed (ahem, A!). I wear sunscreen. I exfoliate.
IPL_4
I even did IPL this year. So I’ve been GOOD! 😀

2. What’s the go-to beauty, makeup, or skincare product you would gift to your family and friends?
It’s so difficult to pick beauty products for other people but I do tend to stick to what I know best. So if I love something, I’ll buy the identical thing for someone else because I can vouch for it.

So usually those would be eye shadows and blushes! 😛  I have given Burberry cosmetics as gifts since the packaging is so impressive and they are great quality.

3. Do you mind gifting high-end products or rather gift drugstore products to others?
I would prefer to give mid- to high- end products since they have such pretty packaging. (see above!) I figured drugstore products can be bought at any time, and are often on sale, so higher end stuff from Sephora or department stores are more special.

4. What are the beauty products you’re hoping to get to see under your Christmas tree this year?
blogmas_2016_day19_3
Every year we have to provide wish lists to the family and this year I asked for Zoeva brushes, a MAC brow brush, and soaps / lotions from Bath & Body Works and the Body Shop. The bath products are always on my wish list since they’re “safe” items for anyone to buy! 😛

5. What is the beauty product that you’re dreading to receive for Christmas this year?
blogmas_2016_day19_4
I’m very specific when I ask for bath products when it comes to the scents. I prefer fruity, sweet or floral smells but I hate anything musky. But sometimes people don’t pay attention and I have in the past received some truly headache inducing scented bath products! The worst culprit was Bath & Body Works Mahogany Woods shower gel and body lotion – it’s for men but both my SO and I hate it and we’ve received it 2 years running now. 😦

6. Are you participating in Blogmas this year? If so what is the post you’re most proud of so far?
This is my first Blogmas post this year! So this post is my favourite so far! 😆

7. Do you remember the first beauty product you received as a Christmas gift? What was it and did you enjoy it?
blogmas_2016_day19_6
I honestly can’t remember the first beauty products I received as a Christmas gift! I did remember getting an Avon set when I was a teenager – it may have been the first! Nothing as impressive as the set shown here but it allowed me to experiment with different colours and application techniques. I felt so grown up!

8. What mini size product would you recommend as a great stocking stuffer?
tarte_tartelette_tease_1
I think a mini palette would make a fabulous stocking stuff and the one I recommend is the Tartelette Tease (Reviewed here).

9. Would you rather your friends and family ask you gifts you wanted to receive or have them surprise you?
blogmas_2016_day19_5
I like to do a mixture. What we do is provide a wish list that is about 10 items long, but with the expectation of only buying 1 or 2 items off that list. So it’s kind of a surprise but a controlled surprise, ya know? 😉

10. What is your favorite way to show Christmas spirit through your look or outfit?
Makup-wise, I add something sparkly on the eyes, and a bit of a stronger lip. Clothing-wise, I will add a pop of red to my staple of black and grey head to toe outfits! Last week, I wore a red sweater that was quite festive of me! 😛

I’ll still be linking to my blogmas posts from last year!

  1. Christmas sneaks up on me every year now. It gets worse with each year! I literally don’t have my shopping done and it’s less than a week now. Thank goodness for online shopping.

I can’t believe you got B&BW Mahogany Woods stuff 2x in a row XD! Their scents are so hit/miss for me. Some are divine, some are just NO.

    Burberry and Zoeva: yes please!

    1. I know, Christmas sneaks up on me too! But I don’t have a ton of shopping to do and it helps a lot to get a shopping list to work off of. I feel so bad for all the courier services right now – rushing to deliver everyone’s parcels!

Mahogany Woods is nasty stuff… I can’t even re-gift it in good conscience.

    1. Haha are you one of those crazy people running through the mall last minute! 😆 I worked in retail way back when, and once i worked Christmas Eve and it was the easier day of selling – literally anything you showed to a shopper, they will buy. 😛

  2. I agree with you on gifting mid-to-high end makeup to others! I like buying things for people that is a bit of a “treat” that they wouldn’t necessarily buy themselves. People usually don’t have problems justifying a makeup purchase from the drugstore.

How interesting, I don’t think I’ve ever even see Mahogany Woods as a body scent! Bleh, definitely not for a girl. I bet that one is strong! I keep receiving the Japanese Cherry Blossom scent and I hate that one – it smells like a grandma!

Oh man, it’s so good that you and your SO still try to somewhat surprise each other even though you have a wish list. My fiance and I have resorted to just buying each other stuff while we do our Christmas shopping. So bad! Anyways, I hope you get that Zoeva brush set…all of the brushes that are included look so handy!

    1. Yes exactly, it’s more of a treat whereas drugstore is more justifiable for people to purchase at any time.

Japanese Cherry Blossom is not my favourite either. Same with Sweet Pea and Moonlight Path. All of them are granny!

It’s funny that we still try to surprise each other. I’m running out of places to hide stuff! We toyed with doing lame things like, let’s buy a new vacuum and say it’s our present to each other. But he usually is the one who will say, “we needed that vacuum, it’s not a present! Let’s still buy each other presents” LOL. I think he likes getting presents. 😛

      1. You’re right, Moonlight Path is a no-go too. I actually don’t mind Sweet Pea, although it’s not a scent I go for as it smells kind of plain to me.

Hahaha we do lame stuff like that all the time now! :/ What’s not to like about getting presents, though? Especially because it’s fun to open them together on Christmas Eve/Day. We’re thinking next year we’ll give the wish list thing another try.

      1. I think it’s not necessarily a bad thing that your SO wouldn’t swing by a make-up store. He might compare what they have with what you have… and then he might say… “You should be selling to them!” My husband once said I could sell my toiletries to my local Superdrug store because their toiletries aisle lacks choice!

  3. I’m with you on liking a mixture of surprises and guarantees ha – there’s certain family members I do circulate a list to because they would have no idea what to get me otherwise, this year it’s all super snazzy items like a new kitchen bin and bedside lamps. People like my mum and dad I trust them to go off piste and end up with lots of things I would never have asked for but love. It’s boring if you know everything that you’re going to get!
I like this tag, will be doing it I think this week – I didn’t get myself blog ready this weekend was too busy shopping!

    1. Kitchen bin and bedside lamps are fantastic things to ask for! I once asked for an air purifier and I use it nightly! 😀
There is always an element of surprise… some people prefer going off the list but I don’t mind. They knew my interests and try to buy something associated with it.
      Yes, do this tag! 😀

  4. I want that minion gingerbread house! Did you do another one this year? I loved your answers! I agree with the mini palette as a stocking stuffer. I had a hard time finding something I would NOT want to get as a beauty product but you made a really good point about the fragrance. My sister and I have totally different taste when it comes to fragrance and she often gets me body sprays for Christmas. Slowly but surely they make their way back to her throughout the year, lol.

    1. No I didn’t bother with another gingerbread house this year. Christmas just snuck up on us and I wasn’t ready. Ah well. Maybe next year!
Haha that’s funny how you just sneak back your sister’s gifts to you… I guess in some ways, we all buy stuff for other people of things that we personally like!

  5. That Zoeva eye brush set is on my wish list too 😍😍 that rose gold gets me. Still hesitant to buy, scared of the rose gold will change colour after my vigorous washing routine 😂

I saw that Rachael did this tag too. You’re definitely good at getting people together.
