You’re thinking to yourself, “that Stashy is really running out of ideas for this Blogmas thing, isn’t she?” 😆 Well, hear me out! I think we focus so much on our sense of sight that we sometimes neglect our other senses. For previous Blogmas posts, I’ve already focused on the sense of hearing (Christmas music) so why not talk about how Christmas smells?
Yes, there will be talk of food… but also some fragrances too!
It’s common knowledge that scents are most strongly associated with memories so it’s only natural to be reminded of significant events like the holidays through certain smells. Here’s what I smell during Christmastime:
Maple glazed spiral ham
Ever since we discovered spiral ham a few years ago, we haven’t looked back. Who needs turkey when we can have moist delicious spiral ham with crispy outer bits?
Clementines
Since this is a winter fruit, and it seems to be more prevalent during the holiday season. To me, clementines smell sweeter yet more tart than oranges.
Gingerbread
I love ginger molasses cookies at any time of the year, but gingerbread cookies are in abundant supply during the holidays and I gobble them up!
Mulled apple cider
We like ours with sticks of cinnamon – so sweet and warm!
Prada Candy Perfume
I was surprised that I ended up loving this perfume after trying a sample a few years ago; I went out and bought the full size right away. I would describe it as a smokey caramel scent that isn’t cloying or juvenile. I enjoy wearing this during the winter months, especially around the holidays!
BBW Vanilla Snowflake candle
I received this for Christmas last year – I had specifically asked for this scent after smelling it in the store. The individual notes are described as: Creamy Vanilla, Iced Fir, Wintry Mint, Coconut Flakes. It is a comforting warm scent that isn’t overpowering – I’ve been burning this one all week (in fact, right now!)
What are the smells you associate with Christmas?
Last year’s blogmas post was a fun one:

Can you believe that it’s Christmas Eve already!?
I love a lot of the same smells! We like to do a ham for Christmas as well, though the non-spiral type, and I keep a pot of apple cider on the stove with cinnamon, cloves, and star anise. Cranberry sauce gets the same, plus it’s spiked with Grand Marnier. Sweet potato pie just gets a dash of cinnamon. Christmas Eve gets a roast capon with lemon & rosemary, parsnips, carrots, and brussels sprouts.
Chocolate ginger cake, pumpkin-bourbon sticky toffee pudding, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, chocolate crinkles, and Christmas-ified nutmeggy oatmeal raisin cookies are on my baking list today.
Oh, and we have candy cane eggnog, too!
My Christmas perfume is usually something creamy+spicy like Costume National 21.
Merry Christmas, Stashy!

Cranberry sauce spiked with Grand Marnier – fancy!
Hmm all the root vegetables – love them. I’m not a fan of eggnog so that’s off my list of smells! 😛
Are you still baking right now?
Merry Christmas, fivezero!!!

Nice idea. One of my favourite smells is the Christmas tree as soon as you walk into the room!

We don’t normally have real trees so we’re definitely missing out on this smell!

Great idea for a post, actually!
Anything that smells warm and cinnamony/gingery reminds me of Christmas. Mulled apple cider is one of my fave Christmas drinks!

I didn’t have any apple cider during the Christmas season this year! 😦
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Hm… That maple glazed ham is a winner 😄 I agree with you on the clementine. They’re more sweet than oranges. I am trying to recover from food coma and hang over. I try not to think about food smell for now. Let me zzz 😴 it out and I’ll be right back.
Merry Christmas again, Stashy. Hope you’re stuffed too 😉😘
