Favourites Lately: End 2016

This is not my “best of” list for 2016 yet – it’s simply my final quarterly favourites for the year. I’ll be posting my full favourites list for 2016 in January!  Here’s what I’ve been enjoying from October to December:
favourites201612_2
Remember that for 2 of the past 3 months, I was essentially in makeup jail doing Project Pan! 😉

Skincare:

favourites201612_4
MAC Lightful Softening Lotion – surprised that I like this as much as I do. It’s pricey but it’s an effective toner with a citrusy scent. I’m unsure about the brightening effects after using it for a month. And I do love the holographic bottle!

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil – I’ll be doing a detailed review on this but this is effective and gentle. And I have a limited edition Alice in Wonderland bottle, which makes it even better! 😛
favourites201612_5
Farmacy New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains – I got this travel size from Cat, who raves about this product and the Farmcy brand in general. This is my first ever Farmacy product and oh my goodness – the hype is real!
favourites201612_6
It’s a powder that you simply mix with water to make a paste. This leaves my skin feeling so soft and clarified, and has a slight tightening effect. I’m definitely buying the full size of this when I run out! The full size isn’t even all that expensive at C$40 for 100g – that’s a LOT of product.

MAC Studio Moisture Cream – review to come!

Physician’s Formula Anti Aging Laser Resurfacing Serum – this is the second bottle I have of this and if I find it again, I’ll be sure to buy more. This makes my skin so smooth and radiant, and it’s so affordable!
favourites201612_8
The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ in Clementine – I got this as a present from a friend and it smells and tastes just like a juicy clementine! Since the weather has gotten colder and drier, my poor lips have been suffering. I’ve been using this scrub about 3 times a week, in the mornings. Aside from the sugar particles, it has oils in it that helps to moisturize my lips. Prior to this lip scrub, I had only ever used the LUSH ones – this one has larger sugar granules compared to the LUSH.

H&M Lip Rescue – It’s all about pampering my lips lately and this has been a great night time balm. I’ll always be a die-hard C.O. Bigelow Supreme 2X Lip Shine fan but this one from H&M ranks up there.

Body care:

favourites201612_3
Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Lotion – smells like grapefruit and sinks into my skin really well.

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Coconut – I like this scent even better than the Vanilla Grapefruit one.

Hair care:

favourites201612_7
Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotionreceived this from Rachael and it makes my hair voluminous but defined and tamed. And it smells like a coconut tropical cocktail.  The instructions say to use the size of a Brazil nut but I think I’m using slightly more than that!  I’m savouring every bit and I will need to find out how to get my hands on this locally!

Nails:

favourites201612_9
Leighton Denny in Message in a Bottle – I haven’t featured this on the blog yet but it’s a sheer pale grey with an opal pink glean. I need to buy a back up of this!

Cover Girl Outlast in Being Blonde – I haven’t featured this either but I need to buy a back up of this pronto too! It’s a metallic rose gold that applies like a dream – honestly, I think this is the best nail polish formula I’ve used all year. 😮

Makeup:

favourites201612_12
Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base – my favourite eye shadow primer that I’ve used so far.

Mary Kay Undereye Corrector – review coming up soon

Tony Moly Panda’s Dream Brightening Eye Base – I thought this would be a gimmick because of the cutesy packaging, but this works wonders under concealers, especially those tricky ones like the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer or KATE Stick Concealer.
favourites201612_15
MAC Smokey Mauve Extra Dimension Eye Shadow got this for my birthday and it’s a great for one shadow look

H&M eye shadow in Shiitakereview here
favourites201612_16
Buxom Eyeshadow in Bold Bling – this was part of the recent Black Friday set and it’s a stunning golden peach shade.

• ck One Color Powder Eyeshadow in 730 Driven – this is an old favourite. It’s sooty olive-y brown that’s highly pigmented, smooth and long wearing. I found this at Winners years ago and sadly this line is discontinued.
favourites201612_17
Tony Moly Eyetone Shimmer Single Shadow in S04 Latte Brown – a great formula and wearable bronzey colour – bought this in January in a Korean beauty haul and costs around $5 only
favourites201612_18
Surratt blush in Se Pomponner – from the November Sephora VIB sale haul. It’s scary looking in the pan (hot pink!) but it blends out so it looks seamless with the skin – this is lovely for winter months.

Clinique Heather Pop Cheek Pop Blush – also from the same Sephora haul as the Surratt blush but it is the polar opposite of the effect: this is very subtle cool pink shade that’s very easy to wear. This lasts really well on the skin.
favourites201612_19
Kiko Shade Fusion Trio Blush in 05 Marsala – review here. I actually wore this for Christmas Day. 🙂
favourites201612_13
Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick – this is a classic product that I’ve enjoyed for ages. It is a balmy lipstick formula that provides a wearable plummy hue to my lips. I’ve been wearing this quite a bit in December and also wore this on Christmas Day!

MUJI Lip Liner in Rose – I’ve been using this a lot as my “lip cheat” to even out my lips – it’s the perfect MLBB shade and the creamy wears well.
favourites201612_14
Chulip Tinted Lip Balm in Sweet Pink – this was part of my Japanese trip makeup haul, review to come!

Tools:

favourites201612_10
Bésame Boudoir Long Hair Finishing Powder Brush – review coming up soon!
favourites201612_11
Clean Sweep Makeup Brush Pad (aka Color Switch dupe) – this is a good in-between dry cleaner for brushes that you use often. I bought this in November and have been using it almost daily – if you encounter this at your Winners / TJMaxx, grab it!

What products have stood out to you lately? Stayed tuned for my Best of 2016 post, which will be posted in January! 🙂

    1. Hiiiii! Are you kind of back to “normal” (whatever normal means for you! 😆 )
Yes, the grains are so good. I was shocked at how affordable the full size was. Definitely getting it!

  2. Loving the post so much! So many item I want to try. Farmacy New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains sound so great and interesting. I have tried only one product from them so far and I love it. Cant wait to try some more.
As for nail polishes, I have never heard about Leighton Denny, cant wait to read your review as well as CG, how come I have missed the fact they make nail polishes :))
I wanted to try your natural deodorant brand so much, but then I was this one at the one of a kind show, using it now, still not sure how i feel about it. might try the one you recommend and then if that wont work, I give up haha

    1. I’ve also tried the Farmacy Rise n Shine day cream so far and I didn’t care for it (it was a 100pt perk at Sephora) – the cream balls up in little bits no matter how littler or much I apply! It just rubs off like eraser shavings! But this exfoliating grains is superb – highly recommend. I want to try that honey mask that you and Cat love. I just learned the other day that it’s WARMING? I had no clue!

The Legithon Denny polish I found at a Winners! I think it’s a UK brand. And CG dabbles in nail polishes here and there, not consistently. This particular one I got from the CNE a while ago so I’m sure it’s discontinued. Not sure how I’ll get a back up of it… 😦

I had to go gradually on the natural deodorants. It’s still not 100% but Lavanila is the best out of all the ones I’ve tried. At Sephora they sell a smaller tube of it so if you don’t want to commit to the full size, it’s an option. They’re usually located at the check out area.

      1. Yeah, I tried the mask when we had the heat waves and almost killed myself haha (I’m always hot and that unexpected heat from it didn’t help). Any season other than summer I like it haha

I will keep my eyes open for the CG and the deodorant for sure. Good to know they have a sample size

    1. I’ve gone through so many different eye shadow primers and the Nars beats them all hands down. For the amount of money I spent trying to find a less expensive alternative, I could have purchased several tubs of the Nars instead. My only gripe with it, is the wand tube. I would have preferred a squeeze tube!

The DHC Cleansing oil is fantastic but pricey. I think a better option if you have access to it, is the MUJI Sensitive Skin cleansing oil. It’s also olive oil based and very similar. Hope that helps!

    1. Black Honey is so underrated. No, it’s not discontinued – they even have a Pink Honey one now. I’ve been meaning to pick that one up. I just love the formula. It’s a classic!

  3. I need that MAC smokey mauve eyeshadow! OMG, that looks amazing! I agree with you on the Farmacy New Grains…. it’s very addicting. I love that product! And I’ve heard so much about the cult classic Clinique black honey but i’ve never tried it. NEED TO!

    1. I saw that MAC Smoky Mauve eye shadow on someone else’s blog and I HAD to have it. Now I’m just passing it forward! 😆
The Clinique Black Honey is a staple – and it’s not expensive either!

  4. Great post, so many things in there I haven’t heard of that I kind of want to find now. That Alice in wonderland bottle is so pretty, I’d be tempted just by the packaging, and that lip scrub sounds so good, I do love orange kind of things. I was the same with the Tony Moly Panda eye thing, I wasn’t expecting to love it but got it as something to try but it really does work to make a base for concealer, the cute Panda doesn’t hurt either 😆

    1. I’ve been wanting to try DHC cleansing oil for ages and when I caught wind of the limited edition packaging – the timing was perfect! 🙂 That’s the great thing about a lot of Asian cosmetics – the packaging is cute but the product inside is actually good!

  5. There is so much good stuff here!
The packaging of the DHC Cleansing Oil is SO CUTE. I get sucked in by anything Disney 😛
The Sara Happ lip scrub sounds yummy, haha…clementine is one of my favourite scents. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a Lush lip scrub. I usually make my own with sugar + olive oil, but have been lazy lately and my lips have suffered as a result.
Wow, the Covergirl Outlast has been your favourite nail polish formula of the year?! That is a bold claim! I have yet to try this line.
MAC Smokey Mauve is absolutely gorgeous. I already own too many shadows, but I really still want to try the Extra Dimension shadows. Same goes to the Clinique Cheek Pops! There are so many blush shades in that line that I want to try. Heather Pop is really pretty.

    1. The packaging really got me with that DHC cleansing oil! 😛
That Sara Happ lip scrub surprised me – I prefer it to the LUSh ones. The grains are larger and whatever oils they use is more nourishing so my lips feel like NEW. I’ve made my own before but this makes mine feel so lame. 😛
I actually said out loud “OMG!” when I applied that CG polish. That particular shade is outstanding and I tried another one earlier in the year (a deep navy) and it was great too. I don’t know if they’re still readily available as I found them on this site which leads me to believe they’re discontinued…

You HAVE to try both the MAC Extra Dimension shadows (get Stolen Moment!) and the Clinique Cheek Pop (for you, I think Heather Pop is best. I also own Berry Pop and Ginger Pop). Get thee SHOPPING NOW! 😉

  6. Nice! I just want it all but I really love the CK shadow and the lip scrub. Mandarine sounds delicious. The H&M shadow is looking pretty nice too! I have to get on board with MAC, man I feel so out of the loop with that brand!! Hope you had an amazing Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
    Much Love,

    1. Haha, maybe you can start small with MAC and just buy a single shadow (refill) – they’re like $6 USD so maybe you won’t feel robed if you hate it. I recommend the shade Satin Taupe! 🙂
I’m so bummed about the ck shadows being discontinued – I’m going on ebay to hunt some down.
      Happy New Year Kristy!

    1. I’ve started to dabble more into MAC skincare, they’re quite good! I think they recently changed the MAC toner to a spray bottle which is even better! Which exfoliator do you like from MAC?

      1. Just opening and closing it is fun! I constantly get questions when I carry it around. Some of my friends have begun referring to is as a sex toy (sorry if I just ruined it for you… 😛 ).
