bareMinerals The Regal Wardrobe Palette

Finally! After owning this for more than a year, I got around to trying it and now reviewing it. 😛

Although this particular palette is no longer available, I hope my review of the products will help get a sense of bareMinerals pressed products in general.

I’m most familiar with bareMinerals from their loose makeup, especially the mineral foundation. However, I’ve heard that their pressed products are great quality so I put this item on my Christmas wish list for 2015 and received it as a gift.

The palette is made of a sturdy cardboard that’s fairly compact (13 x 8 x 1.7cm / 5¼ x 3½ x ¾”) when closed, although the cardboard does add some bulk. It folds up like a folder:

There’s a good sized mirror which makes it ideal for travel.

A nit: why aren’t the eye shadows in the first portion of the palette when it’s unfolded rather than the second portion? I do my eye makeup first and then blush / bronzer / highlight – I need to access the eye shadow first! 😛

The palette contains 8 eye sahdows, 2 blushes, 1 highlighter and 1 bronzer.

Each individual eye shadow is 1.3g / 0.04oz of product, which is slightly less than the typical of a full size single refill pan (ie MAC, MUG etc).

The eye shadows contained are in their “Ready Eyeshadow” formula (ie. pressed eye shadows), and the official colour descriptions are as follows (I added the finish in brackets):
• Natural – light buttery peach (matte)
• Cognac – gilded bronze (metallic)
• Namaste – sandy brown (matte)
• Treasure Hunt – shimmering taupe (shimmer)
• 500 Thread Count – airy pink (matte)
• Romp – iridescent lilac (metallic)
• Flash – matte purple clay (matte)
• Regal – velvet plum (shimmer)

Another nit: I feel it’s a bit redundant to have both numbers and names for each of the shades? 😕

The 8 eye shadows are evenly divided into 4 mattes and 4 shimmers, with the top row being warmer-toned and bottom row more cool-toned.  Out of the 8 shades, 4 are limited edition; these shades can be found elsewhere: 500 Thread Count and Romp (both were part of The Dream Sequence quad), Cognac (part of The Top Shelf duo), and Namaste (part of The Enlightenment duo).

“Natural” disappears on my skin.

I’ve been using this palette since January (on and off, not daily – are you nuts? 😛 ) – these eye shadows are outstanding! They’re smooth, pigmented and last incredibly well through a full work day and then some (I estimate around 12 hours!) without fading or creasing.

The colours coordinate well with each other – I typically use the top row and bottom row separately to do different eye looks.  The only slight issue I experienced was that some shades are slightly more difficult to blend, especially the deeper matte shades like Namaste and Flash.

It should come as no surprise that the taupes were my favourites – Cognac and Romp are amazing! For me, the 2 light matte colours are repetitive – I would have loved to have seen a matte transition colour instead.  After playing around with the palette, I realized that I can use the included bronzer as my transitional shade.

Which brings me to the face products, included are:
• Ready Blush in The Summer Fling – creamy peach (matte) (2g / 0.07oz)
• Ready Bronzer in The Skinny Dip – light tan (matte) (3g / 0.1oz)
• Ready Luminizer in The Brilliant Sunset (shimmer) (2.8g / 0.09oz)
• Ready Blush in The Love Letter – warm mauve (matte) (2g / 0.07oz)

The Skinny Dip is a permanent product that’s available as a compact, which retails for C$32 for 8.5g. The other face products are limited edition. For me, the blushes are a bit disappointing – I would consider myself somewhat of a blush connoisseur and these blushes are quite powdery and they don’t last well on the skin. :/

The bronzer is nice for an all over warmth but I mostly use it as a transitional eye colour. The highlighter is great and subtle enough to wear on the daily basis. As an added bonus, the highlighter can be used as a brow bone / inner corner highlight since both of the included eye shadow highlight shades are matte.

Interestingly, the blushes and highlighter are made in Canada and the rest of the products are made in the USA (yay NAFTA!).  This palette retailed for C$56 / $39 USD bareMinerals claim this has a value of $126 USD.

Besides this palette, I do also own the bareMinerals duo in The Phenomenon – which was a Black Friday set from 2014. I thought I’d throw in a quick comparison to see how the quality of the holiday palette compares to a regular duo:

The Phenomenon contains:
• Azure Isis – prismatic lavender (shimmer)
• Golden Iris – illuminating amber (shimmer)

I’d say the quality are pretty comparable – they are pigmented, blend well and last a long time on the lids.  These 2 shades are more of companion / accent colours – I’m not able to do a complete eye look with just these 2 colours. They remind me a bit of how Nars duos are – the odd pairing of colours.

But, good job bareMinerals on keeping the quality of your seasonal limited edition product quality on par with your regular products. And not made in China.  😉

Here’s how I rate the bareMinerals The Regal Wardrobe Palette:

Pros:
• Eye shadows are pigmented, smooth, blendable formula
• Highlighter and bronzer are good
• Can create complete eye / cheek look
• Compact palette size
• Good value
• Made in Canada / US

Cons:
• Inconsistency between finishes
• Blushes not as good as eye shadows
• Packaging a little cumbersome

Stash worthiness: 8/10 (eye shadows are 9/10 but the face products brought down the overall rating)

I do like this palette as a travel option – it’s nice to have eye and face products all together. I actually don’t think I own a palette that contains eye shadows, blushes, bronzer and highlighter in one (I do have the Carli Bybel palette which contains eye shadows but highlighters only – and the palette is too large to travel in my opinion).   3. I’ve always been a fan of BM eyeshadows – I find them seriously under-rated. I’m absolutely loving the two purple shades in that palette (Romp & Flash) – those are stunning! Too bad about the face products though. 😦

    That Phenomenon palette is such an odd combo of colours….

    1. I agree, BM is so underrated! I wish they had more social media presence. Or maybe people just don’t think the brand is “cool” anymore… it was so “early 2000s”. 😛

  6. Oh my gosh, this is a beautiful palette! I can’t even decide which shade I like most…probably Treasure Hunt or Romp! Too bad the blushes are meh. Love Letter is such a pretty shade. And that highlighter :O Bare Minerals has always been one of those brands that I know have high-performing shadows, but I always end up foregoing it for another brand. I really need to just take the plunge.

    1. The eye shadows are all very wearable. I was so impressed by the formula – some are better than MAC for me in terms of longevity. I just wish the blushes were as good as the rest – ah well, I guess you can’t have everything. 😛 I highly recommend the pressed eye shadows – have a look next time you’re at Sephora, they’re definitely work a look.

  8. I’ve o my tried the BM loose shadows. I have a bazillion of those. Only pressed product I’ve tried is the pressed powder foundation. It’s ok. The original is still their best. I used it exclusively for like 10 years. Not even kidding.

    1. I don’t think I have any BM loose shadows – I’ve always wanted the colours Queen Tiffany or Nude Beach since people rave about them.
      What made you move off from their loose foundation? I used to use loose mineral foundation ages ago too but found them messy – then I discovered BB creams.

  10. I read this while I was on my lunch earlier and didn’t get chance to comment and I’ve been thinking about it all afternoon.
    I LOVE the look of this palette, I’m kind of glad I didn’t see this whilst it was still available as I need another palette right now like I need a hole in the head, but these are gorgeous, glad that the pigmentation is better in these shadows than my last BM one, Romp is gorgeous and a very you shade! I do have one BM blush and have only used it a handful of times I’ve never really paid too much attention to it’s wear, I’ll have to dig it out and test it!

    1. Haha I know what you mean, I’m realizing I have too many palettes now and I only got into palettes last year. I *just* cracked opened the 2 palettes you sent me! 😳 I’m doing a test of them for a couple of week and will post my thoughts on them. 😉

  16. I finally got to try Bareminerals for the first time. My best friend spoiled me quite a bit for Christmas. I got an eyeshadow duo, which I really like! Also the mineral veil, and the moxie lip gloss. I was really impressed with eyeshadow.

      1. The duo is called The Magic Touch. It contains the shadows Presto and Flicker. She also got me the Too Faced peach palette! I was freaking out in a good way when we exchanged gifts lol. I did gift her with the ABH Renaissance palette on her birthday in September lol. We just are so much alike! You might follow her on here, She is Beauty by Brooke LeAnne. We’ve known each other and been friends for over a decade now lol.

  17. I’m pretty sure I have a palette that contains everything from eyeshadows to blushes – I don’t know which brand it is, but I think that I know what it looks like and I know it’s gotta be around somewhere…

    And Stashy, don’t let any (perceived) inavailabitlity of a product deter you from writing a review. I write reviews of lots of discontinued products – because even the oldest products can still be found online (ebay, amazon, specialist end of line retailers, etc) or in bargain stores. Last March I bought two Herbal Essences Fruit Fusion conditioners from a 99p Store that closed down. These HE conditioners were discontinued in 2007 – but guess what? They’re still awesome and they make my hair feel and smell amazing. I cannot even begin to describe how much I love preservatives in cosmetics!

    Oh, and I just googled this palette – on our side of the pond it’s available for just under £40 online. 🙂

    The colour combo in the small Phenomenon eyeshadow duo is indeed odd! 😀

    1. Aww thanks for the pep talk about reviewing discontinued products. I’ll never be one of those bloggers who can provide a review within the week that a product launches. That just isn’t my ammo. I do feel bad if people can’t get their hands on something – but you’re right, things can always be found online or at clearance shops.

      LMAO re: loving preservatives in cosmetics! I’m with you – they work wonders and I’m thrilled when I open something that I’ve stashed away for years and they’re completely fine! 😉

      Now you got me curious about that all-in-one palette – if you find it, do let me know what it is!

      1. Just like you, I’ll also never be one to review the latest products. But then, who does? It’s only those bloggers who get stuff for free, or its bloggers who buy all the new stuff just for review purposes because they want to become the next Zoella or… (I can’t remember any other famous blogger or youtuber right now… I tend to ignore them, and if it weren’t for the Zoella £1 lip balm I have, I wouldn’t even have known that girl’s name…).

        Anyhoo, when you review older products, you might remind someone of a product they used to love… and maybe they’ll buy it again. 🙂

Haha, if the only YouTuber you know is Zoella, then consider yourself lucky. There.are.so.many. 😮 And you make a good point about reminding people of what they already own. 👍

            About those youtubers… I’ve never even seen any of Zoella’s videos. I imagine they’re adverts… but even if they’re not… I don’t really care enough to find out… Oh, and I wouldn’t recognise Zoella. I know she has brown hair – but I really wouldn’t recognise her if I saw her. Like I said, I picked up a Zoella lip balm for £1 – and that’s why I know her name. 🙂

  18. Bare Minerals doesn’t really appeal to me as a brand. Never been a big fan of mineral make up. It just seems too fussy. I don’t own 1 can-do-it-all palette, but I bought a NARS cheek palette last fall and am using that for travel now. Works like a dream and very handy to have at least all of your cheek products in one spot.

    1. Mineral makeup was so popular and marketed as “healthier” – but you’re right, they are MESSY. I have so many loose pigments I bought from indie companies that I never use – such pretty colour but what a waste.
      Ooh that Nars cheek palette sounds wonderful – I’ve eyed some cheek palettes before. I agree they would be great to have every blush shade you need all in one place.

  23. Beautiful palette! I really like the Bare Minerals eye shadows. I used to be a hug fan of the mineral powder, but I just find my skin too dry now for a powder foundation. I like how all of their products are unscented and good for sensitive skin.

    1. Yes, I remember all the mineral makeup hype – how it was healthier / better for your skin. I was all about it for a short time – bought BM and from other online indie retailers. Now, they’re just so messy.

    1. I used to do my eye makeup last but I saw in some magazine to try doing it first to avoid fall out ruining concealer etc and since then I’ve never looked back! Also, I’m one of those people who would rather tackle the most difficult task and leave the easy ones last.

  26. Romp is so pretty!!! I have a few Bare Minerals palettes and really like them. There’s one that I used so often that it even has a bit of a dip. Which is big for me hahaha! I haven’t used them in such a long time though. I might have to dust them off. After I get through the pile of other makeup sitting on my desk…

Great post, I like the swatches the pigment looks great but I have to be honest I won’t be buying this simply because I’m so bored of neutral palettes, I wear them a lot myself but I see blogs go on about them a lot and I’m kinda over it, think that’s just me though I love a bit of colour now and then xxx

  31. I haven’t tried any of their pressed powder stuff *LOL* I have tried all their loose ones though 😛 Too bad that the blushes do not work out. You’re hard to impress though, especially for blushes.

    Totally well spotted on the NAFTA thing. Most impressive part is that this holiday palette is not made in China like so many other big brands that try to make extra margin. Big plus to BM!!!

    1. I’m not THAT hard to please about blushes – just blend well and don’t fade, that’s really it. I don’t even really care if it’s high pigment, I can work with those – some days I actually prefer lower pigmented blushes. *shrug*

      Trade agreements are those things that aren’t visibly apparent in most people’s lives but when they go away, people will certainly notice! We take them for granted.

      I may not end up reviewing every single thing I got in Japan… will probably focus on more of the experience of shopping for them than anything. I’m going to prioritize the Lunasol, Addiction and Esprique probably. Anything in particular you want to see reviewed?

  32. I’ve said it so many times that bareMinerals shadows are among the best of the best. Sadly the brand is so unpopular that they don’t get praised. I use Cognac (I own the full size) all the time!
