Trash Stash: June and July 2017: Part 2 (Body and Hair Care, Makeup)

And here’s part 2 of my June and July Trash Stash:

This is the balance of what I used up in the past couple of months and includes body and hair care, plus makeup!

Body Care

I’ll be showing some “before” photos of the products before I finished with them.  I often think it might be useful to show the actual products than just show the empty containers in these Trash Stash posts, but I don’t always remember to take photos beforehand! 😛

Etam Bulleuse Paresseuse (Perfumed Body Sorbet)
I received this in a swap ages ago and finally cracked it open. I’ve not used a body moisturizer like this before – it has the consistency of a yogurt drink.  It’s such a silky feeling moisturizer – it just sinks into the skin without any stickiness at all.

The scents are listed as bamboo, jasmine, lotus, lemon and green apple – I mostly smell the jasmine and green apple – a really fresh combination for right after the morning shower. I’d love to get this again but it came all the way from Belgium. 😛

This cream is made in Switzerland!

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream – $20 for 300ml
I received this as a gift from Polished & Inspired and I LOVE it! I’m slightly addicted to the scent. It’s fizzy lime mixed with a soft vanilla scent that isn’t overpowering.

The consistency of the body butter is light and fluffy and doesn’t leave any greasy feeling on the skin – it’s the perfect summer body moisturizer. I worked through this jar in about 3 weeks. I’m getting a replacement as soon as I justify in my head why the other 20 body lotions in my closet can wait their turn. 😆 Thank you P&I for this!
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Nova Scotia Fisherman Salt-N-Sea Body Scrub – $13.95 for 141g
This was quite a grainy scrub which I liked. But I found it to be extremely greasy on the skin – it also left a film on the bathtub, so after every single use of this scrub, I had to wash the tub because I didn’t want my SO to take a flip in the shower! The scent of this scrub wasn’t what I was expecting – it is part lemongrass, part green onion. It took me 4 uses to finish up this jar.
Stash worthiness: 6/10     Repurchase: No

Bath & Body Works Kitchen Lemon Foaming Hand Soap – $6.50 for 259ml
This is a staple for our kitchen sink. We tend to prefer citrus scents for kitchen and leave other scents for the bathroom. We’ve probably purchased this a dozen times over the years.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Bath & Body Works Juicy Georgia Peach Foaming Hand Soap – $6.50 for 259ml
The SO has a thing for peach scented stuff. I bought this to appease him when BBW temporarily stopped carrying the Peach Bellini scent (his fav). I personally liked the Juicy Georgia Peach more than the Peach Bellini – I find this to be sweeter.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: No (LE scent)

Bath & Body Works Sweet Summer Kiss Shower Gel – $12.50 for 295ml
This smelled like passionfruit and berries – I liked it enough and I’m sure I just grabbed it because it was 75% off during one of the semi-annual sales and the smell didn’t offend me.  I do like the thicker consistency of BBW shower gels.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: No (LE scent)

Bath & Body Works Cactus Flower & Coconut PocketBac Sanitizer – $1.50 for 29ml
I don’t particularly love the idea of hand sanitizers but these do come in handy if we’re away from washrooms and our hands become sticky or dirty, as temporary fixes. This particular one smells like tulips mixed with coconut water.  The crab holder is my favourite – I’m a crab! (Cancer in the zodiac 😉 ) I’m not tossing the holder away – I just wanted to show it off here. 😉
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: No (LE scent)

Onyx Moisturizing Polish Remover (lavender) – $4 for 473ml
One of my favourite nail polish removers. It works well to remove all traces of nail polish (including glitters) without stinking like strong chemicals or stripping my nails. It’s not easy to find anymore ever since Walmart stopped carrying this type but I’ve been seeing it at Winners lately.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Bath & Body Works Wallflower in Peach Bellini and Waikiki Beach Coconut Refills – $6.50 each
I decided to include home fragrances in my Trash Stash posts since I have included candles in the past.  I typically go through one Wallflower per month – we only use them in the bathroom (both for the scent benefit – ahem! – and for the night light aspect of the plugs).  The Peach Bellini one has great throw whereas the Waikiki Beach Coconut is weak (sadly!). I really like the decorative designs BBW puts on some of their seasonal refill bulbs.  I goes without saying that I never pay full price for anything from BBW – they constantly offer discounts in the form of coupons and qty bundles.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes for the Peach Bellini

Hair Care

L’Oreal Matt & Messy Shine-Free Salt Spray – $10 for 150ml
Found this on clearance and decided to give it a try. It does give a tousled look but it also leaves the hair crunchy and feeling dried out. I did like it for the underside of my hair at the back though – gave it extra oomph and body.
Stash worthiness: 6/10     Repurchase: No

Curl Keeper Original – $17 for 250ml
You must be sick of seeing this. It’s a staple! I did switch to another product (Tigi Bed Head Foxy Curls Extreme Curl Mousse which I used up last month) but came back to this. I just noticed it reads “pH 4.4-4.8” on the bottle, I suppose that’s a good pH level for the hair?  It took about 5 weeks to get through this bottle.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo – $75 for 1L
Finally I’m finished this 1L bottle. I’ve been decanting this into the small bottle (shown) and I’ve been working through this for the past couple of years. I like rotating my shampoos so that’s why it took a while. I’m definitely stocking up again when Kiehl’s has their Friends & Family sale. I love the scent of this – a mixture of baby powder and coconut. Plus, it’s a great clarifying shampoo that doesn’t dry out my hair.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Makeup

I managed to finish a bunch of base products this month! 😀

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard – $36 for 6ml
I won’t go too much into this since I did a detailed review here but I will say that the colour match during the winter months wasn’t the best – it was too peach and dark on me so I had to stop using it for about 4 months.

In total, I would say this tube lasted me about 6 months with regular use. I’m curious to try the A’Pieu Moist Creamy Concealer, which is supposed to be pretty comparable, for only $8.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

KATE Stick Concealer in Natural Beige – ¥1,000 (approx C$12.50) for 3.1g
One of my all time favourite stick concealers to use for redness or spots. It’s pigmented and creamy and blends well into my skin. I’ve tried this under my eye but it’s a bit tricky – read my review here on how I managed to make it work. I listed this as my top discoveries in 2014 and have been focusing on finishing it up in the last 18 months. It’s finally finished!
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

W7 HD Foundation in Buff – $5 for 30ml
I’m conflicted about liking this foundation so much because it is made in China!  But, at least it didn’t carry an inflated price tag. What I liked about this foundation is how effortless it was – easy to apply with either my fingers or a sponge. The coverage is medium with a satin finish. It wore well on the skin and matched my skin tone.  It behaved like a much more expensive foundation – the packaging is even made of glass!  I found this at Winners while doing the $20 Makeup Challenge and I haven’t seen it at the stores lately. I’m not in a hurry to replace this since I have so many other foundations to finish up, but I would definitely repurchase it.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Sephora MicroSmooth Baked Foundation Face Powder in #15 Light – $27 for 7g
This is just like MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder. They’re both my favourite face powders. Price-wise, this is slightly more expensive than MAC’s ($3.86 per gram vs MAC’s $3.40) but when this is on for 15-20% off during the VIB sale, it brings the price down below MAC’s. What I love about this powder is the finish – it is very natural, and not a flat matte. It has a nice blurring effect and feels lightweight on the skin.  The coverage is good but I don’t use this as a powder foundation, just as a finishing powder dusted on top of my foundation or BB cream.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

As usual, I finished a few mascaras – I typically use a mascara for 2 months and rotate between 2 to 3 different ones.

Joe Fresh Fine Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Brown – $8
I listed this in my favourites earlier this year – it wears really well and the brown colour is perfect for everyday. One of the few felt tip liners that I would consider repurchasing (I normally prefer brush tip liners). This pen lasted me about 7 months in total.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara in Black – $4 USD for 9ml
I received this from Gym Bag Makeup since I’ve been pining for this cult product for ages! It applies really well – very volumizing and provides good length. It did get progressively more clumpy as it got older. The plastic bristles with the smaller head reaches into the small corner lashes. The sad part though, is that this smudges like a mofo on me! 😦 BUT, I used a mascara topper with this and was able to make it work. Surprisingly, this is made in Italy and it’s so inexpensive.  Thank you to Gym Bag Makeup for popping my Jordana Best Lash Mascara cherry! 😉
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Avon True Color Wide Awake Mascara in Black – $10
The wand has a twisted shape featuring natural bristles, which got me excited thinking it would be very volumizing.  This turned out to be a decent everyday mascara – it didn’t provide too much in the way of length or volume but it held my curl well for a defined look. The main downfall was that it smudged underneath my eyes.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: No

Absolute Length & Curl Mascara in Black – $10 for 17ml
On its own, this mascara isn’t stellar – it doesn’t seem to want to build on the lashes, which I think was due in part to how far apart the bristles are spaced. It did provide a lot of length after a few coats and it didn’t clump, which was nice. But what really impressed me was how well this held a curl – so the mascara name “Length & Curl” is spot on! 😛 And it performed similar to a waterproof mascara – no smudging at all. I decided to use this as a mascara topper for smudgy mascaras (see above) and it worked wonderfully for that purpose. The tube contains a whopping 17ml of product and I ended up using this mascara for almost 6 months which is unheard of for me. 😛
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

And an update on Urban Decay Naked eye shadow single:

In my April Trash Stash I showed a newly formed pan peeking through on my UD Naked single. Just look at how much I’ve used since then! I’m trying to pan it completely this year so I’ve been using it nearly daily. 😀  I’ll report back later this year and perhaps it will appear as a trash item eventually.

We made it! The combined total for both June and July is 68 full size items and 18 samples for a grand total of 86 items in the trash!. My target was 62 empties for the 2 months (one product per day) and I did it! 😀  How about you, have you managed to use up some beauty products in the past couple of months?

Here is part 1 of the June & July Trash Stash, in case you missed it. 🙂

    1. I wasn’t sure about the S&G body butter but I fell so head over heels for it! I have to look for other products in that range!
My first products from Kiehls were hair care – I always considered them primarily a hair care company until I started to branch out into their skincare. 😛

  1. I find it so pleasing when I use up a product, there was a point when I was not wanting to use my products because WHAT IF I ran out… well you just buy another, I love that you have so many empties. You’re getting your moneys worth by using all these products up!

    1. I hear you! I used to try to savour a product as long as possible – I hated the idea of running out. But you’re so right, I would just buy a replacement (unless they discontinued the project – ugh!). Yes, I’ve decided in the past few years to finish what I started instead of waiting my money!

  2. YAY EMPTIES 😀

I’m so glad you liked the Jordana mascara! I repurchased mine as well, it’s soooo volumizing for me! I really like the new Loreal Lash Paradise mascara but it still doesn’t give me the volume that the Jordana one does. Plus the Jordana one smudges on me as well. The Wet N Wild lash primer stops it from smudging/flaking, though, so that’s good! I’ll be trying out that Etude House lash primer you mentioned, though, it’s in my next Jolse order 😀

Also I’ve heard a ton of raving about that Soap & Glory body butter!! I guess I’ll have to try it 😛

    1. I picked up that L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara recently but have yet to crack it open. There’s a lot of hype on it – fingers crossed that it won’t smudge on me.
The Soap & Glory Crushed Sugar is better than I even imagined it would be… honestly, I want to slather myself head to toe in that scent. 😀

  3. Great job! I had the NARS concealer in Custard too and found it too dark for the winter months. So I went with Vanilla when I repurchased it. I prefer a lighter concealer to begin with and I think this will see me through for the entire year.

    1. At Sephora, when I told them I found Custard to be a bit dark, they recommended the next shade down which is Honey. It’s even MORE peach than Custard so that was silly. I will have to check out the Vanilla shade.

  4. Surely you must go crazy when you’re holding onto so many empties just before a post? 😂

I’ve used the S&G Sugar Crush Scrub before and remembered that it smelt really nice and zingy! Haven’t used S&G in a while though but there was a phase where I adored their products, including skincare.

Well done with finishing some makeup bits! It’s even harder to finish than other things LOL I’m finally almost done with a concealer and powder (actually can’t wait, I want to use something fresh!!)

    1. Yes, it drives me a bit bonkers to see my bag of empties overflowing and I can’t toss them out yet! 😛
The Soap & Glory Sugar Crush is my new addiction! I have to seek out other products in that scent. 😀
I agree, makeup takes FOREVER to finish. I mostly finish mascara, liners, and base products. I’ve only ever finished ONE colour makeup item: a blush. It’s shocking!

  5. Oh my gosh, 86 products in two months? That’s more than I use in an entire year! lol! Granted, I don’t include hand soaps or wallflowers, but that would add maybe only 10-15 products a year.

The Etam Bulleuse Paresseuse sounds lovely! Too bad it’s not readily available here 😦

YEAH, I’m glad you liked the Soap and Glory body butter! It’s a perfect summer scent, but I wasn’t sure if you’d like it because the smell is a bit…fake? For lack of a better word. I think I might rebuy this for myself after I finish with all of the body lotions in my stash.

I like the thicker consistency of BBW shower gels too. Similar to the body butters, I’ve found that the Body Shop shower gels aren’t consistent – sometimes they’re thick and sometimes they’re runny. Boo!

Do you ever see the BBW plug-ins on sale? I also never buy from BBW unless there’s a sale, and while I often see the Wallflowers on sale, the plugs are always full price.

The Joe Fresh liquid liner is going on my to-buy list! I’m always searching for an affordable replacement for the KVD Tattoo Liner.

Yay, go you with UD Naked! That shade is stellar. I hope you can finish it by the end of the year – it feels like a huge accomplishment when you get through a shadow!

    1. Well I have to credit the 30 masks from June to bump me up to such a high number. WIthout them, I’d be at 56 for the 2 months. 😛

You’ve started a new addiction for me with the Soap & Glory Sugar Crush line! Yes, I guess the smell is a bit synthetic but it’s not overwhelming so it works. I’m glad they’re at Shoppers, I can possibly justify getting them with Optimum Points!

The Wallflower plugs USED to be included in the sales but they stopped including them about a year ago. They know we need the plugs! The rare time I see some limited edition design marked down… but they’re ugly ones that didn’t sell well. 😛

The JF liner surprised me – for $8 it’s really good quality. And it’s made in the US.

I’ve never ever finished a full sized eye shadow pan before! I really hope I can with the UD Naked!

  6. That Sugar Crush body butter sounds lovely? Can I ask how you got through it in 3 weeks? It’s takes me half a year to use a 200ml from The Body Shop :O Congratulations on reaching your target!!

  7. Awesome job on finishing up all of those products! I need to work on doing that…lol! Though I’m about to use up my Beauty Blender solid cleanser. It cleans my Beauty Blenders really well. I use it on any brand of blenders. Though I might try my bff’s idea of using a dove sensitive soap bar. She says it works really well too. It would be a lot cheaper!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Kate! 🙂 I’ve not tried the Beauty Blender solid cleaner but I have heard too things. How long do you find it lasts you, and how often do you wash your Beauty Blender? Ooh yes, if the Dove bar works, it would be a great alternative!

      Like

      1. Well, it’s hard for me to say how long it lasts because I don’t wear makeup too often lol…weird for being a beauty blogger! Haha! I did feel like it does get used up fast though. It’s pretty expensive! I try to wash my blenders after each time I use them, or at the very least every other time, depending how long it’s been between uses. I’m going to try the Dove soap and compare to see how that works. 😊

  8. Oh! My! Gawd! (in Janice’s voice)

The Nova Scotia salt scrub looks and sounds exactly like what Boots sells as sugar scrub over here. Boots sugar scrubs are super grainy and effective but they leave a sticky film on skin and on the shower / bath tub. Not very practical.

I was about to wonder why there are 1-litre shampoo bottles… but I just realised I bought a 946ml bottle just recently… 😀

A number of W7 products are made in China, but W7 doesn’t sell any products on the Chinese market.

I hope you get to finish the UD Naked single eyeshadow!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha I’ve forgotten about Janice from Friends! Her voice is up there with Fran Drescher`s! 😮
Yes, the Nova Scotia body scrub is not very practical at all. I was constantly worried about leaving the tub slippery!
Interesting to know about W7 made in China but not sold there – thanks!

  9. I have the W7 foundation but I never liked it that much.. I might have to give it another try coz it looks like it worked well for you. 🤗

    1. We all have different preferences – nothing wrong with not liking what I like. 🙂 By the way, I did finally try that Revlon ColorStay Creme Foundation that you reviewed a while back – it’s so good! I wished Revlon marketed it as a gel mousse foundation instead of cream – the texture is more like a gel mousse than cream to me. Now sadly, they discontinued it!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I agree.. and yes the Revlon is really nice but I just don’t like the jar… I’ve seen them being sold for only $5 and wanted to stock up but I couldn’t find my shade.. I’ve halfway through my jar and trying to keep the rest. I like it during summer time coz they stay on the skin well. I can’t wait to see your review on it!😀

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I likely won’t devote an entry reviewing the Revlon cream foundation since it’s discontinued now. It might show up in a comparison post though! And I agree, the jar packaging is its biggest downfall, I believe. They could have easily put that into a squeeze tube!

          Liked by 1 person

  10. Ahhh I’ve been wanting to try some of Soap and Glory’s body products, because I’ve heard such good things about them, and well, your good review of that might just push me over the edge. Definitely might look into picking that up! And I always love seeing empties posts! I’m so impressed that you finished so many things!

    1. I wasn’t so sure about the Soap & Glory at first but this one is amazing – better than any Body Shop or Bath & Body Works scent I’ve tried! See if you can smell it in person before committing, I know scents can be a really personal thing.
