China Glaze Shades of Nude Collection

It’s been a while since I’ve done a nail post! Today I’m showcasing a collection that was released for Spring this year, but I personally think a good nude collection is season-less. 😀 I’ve got 3 of the China Glaze Shades of Nude Collection to show:

• Minimalist Momma (sand beige creme)
• Fresher Than My Clique (mushroom taupe creme)
• Kill The Lights (deep mauve creme)

I received these China Glaze polishes from Nail Polish Canada (NPC) to review.


The full collection consists of 12 shades in a range of neutral tones to suit a wide variety of skintones.

All of the polishes have a creme finish – no shimmer or glitters in the bunch. I’m always on the hunt for the next work-appropriate manicure shade, so these were all right up my alley!

My first pick was Minimalist Momma, which has the blurb of “It’s not difficult to find the beauty in simplicity with this classic sandy tan”.

I would call this a slightly peachy tan shade with a jelly finish.


It’s a sheerer formula – after the first coat, there is some streaking and visible nail line (VNL):

The second coat still doesn’t completely erase the VNL:

I ended up doing 3 coats for this final shot.

I really liked how this looked against my skintone, which is tanned from the summer:

Next is Fresher Than My Clique, which is a cooler toned greige taupe shade:

China Glaze’s description for Fresher Than My Clique: Watch out for haters. This dope taupe is the freshest hue in the crew.


It has a thicker consistency which provides good coverage, I find using thinner coats to be better with this particular formula.



I’m not sure if this colour is flattering on my skintone, which I would estimate to be around NC25 with my tan:

Lastly, I could not resist the shade Kill The Lights even though it’s not really a skintone colour:

I just cannot help myself around these dusty mauve type of colours! 😉

China Glaze describes Kill The Lights as The chic comes out at night. This provocative pinky beige prefers to slay after dark.

The formula on this one is perfection! I could have gotten away with just one coat – it’s one of those self-leveling polishes that makes it almost foolproof.


I did find that it dried darker compared to how the colour looks in the bottle.

I wore this for a full week and I only experienced tip wear but no chips, which is typical of how China Glaze polishes wear on me.

The China Glaze Shades of Nude Collection is still readily available from NPC here.  Each 14ml bottle retails at $8.45 CAD.  Personally, I think these are classic shades that should be made permanent!  My favourite is “Kill The Lights” followed by “Minimalist Momma”. Which one do you like best?

  1. Minimalist Momma is definitely my fave of these – suits your skintone perfectly! The jelly finish on these is very interesting.

    I saw the brown S’More one at Winners…maybe I should pick it up if I see it again.

  10. I LOVE how Fresher Than My Clique looks on your nails, though I am always drawn towards greyer nuetrals. My favorite nude is probably Butter London Ta-Ta! although I’m not sure it actually counts as a nude because only dead people have skin that ashy. But it’s the closest thing to a nude you’ll catch me enjoying on my nails, I’m lucky to have a work environment that lets me wear whatever :]

    1. I really love greys but wasn’t sure about how Fresher Than My Clique looks against my tanned skin.
      Just looked up Butter London Ta-Ta and it is gorgeous! I’ve not tried those Patent Shine ones from BL – are they worth the extra $?
      To be honest, my work couldn’t care less what nail polishes I wear – it’s just my personal view that people don’t take me as seriously if I’m rocking crazy nail colours. Plus, I look really young for my age and I need all the help I can get… 😛

      1. I really like the patent shines because they have a nice paddle brush and all have a slightly “squishy” finish, but I really do not think they are worth the extra money unless you are a Butter London fanatic :]

  11. I love Fresher Than My Clique! I always get some sort of neutral color on my nails but I like to go a little creative with them too, using a neutral purple or brown. I always think it makes my hands look a little more exciting but still toned down! Lovely post!

    Oooh, love these nudes, especially Minimalist Momma and Kill the Lights (love me some mauves). Fresher Than My Clique is pretty too – not the most flattering of the three (that kind of shade looks a bit funny on my skintone too), but I would say it still looks great!
    It’s great that they came out with such a wide variety of nudes in one collection, instead of 12 versions of taupey-beigey nudes 😉

      Yes, those cool toned putty type colours are hit and miss – I think if my skin wasn’t tanned, it would look better.

  17. There are all amazing, but I have to say my favorite is “Kill the Lights”! I always liked those tones, and they genuinely fit my tan color, so I will have to buy myself one as soon as possible! Do you have any feedback on whether they are lasting for long? I see you put them 3 times, so I am very curious to know how long did they last? Thank you! 🙂

    1. Yes, I find those kinds of mauvey dusty rose tones to be so flattering on many skintones. And it’s a “colour” without being in your face.
      I did mention in the post that I wore Kill The Lights for a week and I experienced no chips, just tip wear. I find China Glaze polishes to last really well on me, although I do think it has to do with my base and top coat which are Orly Bonder (base) and Poshe (top).

    1. I always picture you with either just white (holo) polish or some dramatic colour (royal blue comes to mind). I think Fresher Than My Clique is growing on me – I do like straight up greys but mostly for winter months.

  24. I’ve never tried China Glaze before. I don’t think I’ve seen it sold around here :/ but I always hear people talking about that and OPI! How often do you throw out your nail polishes/decide they’re not good? I feel that I need to do a clear-out but at the same time I don’t want to throw anything (but I know I’ll have to). 😂

    Btw, I thought all the colours looked great on you! I can see why you’re unsure about the 2nd one; it is quite an unusual colour.

    1. I think Fresher Than My Clique clashes slightly with my warmer skin tone but maybe once I’m less tanned in the winter months, the grey colour would work.
      I have heard that China Glaze can be difficult to get a hold of in the UK – that is unfortunate.
      Last year I did a big nail polish purge and have been meaning to do one again this year – but lately I’ve been liking most of the polishes that I’ve been testing so I may not have too many to get rid of due to formula / performance issues. Although, I do likely have a LOT of similar colours in my stash that I don’t need to hold onto. I don’t throw my polishes away – I give them to friends or to my sister! 😉
