Taking a Break

Happy first day of Fall / Autumn! 🍁🍂🍃 It’s been unseasonably warm here (weekend high is 32ºC / 90ºF) so it doesn’t feel like Fall / Autumn at all.  What’s the weather like where you are?

I didn’t think I’d be announcing another break so soon but lately I’ve been unmotivated to blog.  I also feel guilty about not blogging. My post frequency has diminished recently and it’s due to several factors: more social activities, starting a new job, and generally being less interested in beauty stuff.  Wait, what? Not interested in makeup?!! 😮 I know, it’s strange to type that out, but I just have nothing to contribute relating to beauty stuff right now. 😳 Maybe it’s a phase and I’ll get back into it, who knows – has this happen to any of you?  I decided instead of feeling obligated, I’m going to give myself permission to take a break.  I do still enjoy reading and commenting on your posts, but I won’t be contributing to my blog for at least a month to gauge how I feel after that.  Thanks for your understanding! 🙂

  1. Enjoy your break Stashy! ❤ Don't feel bad, sometimes it's really good to relax and enjoy life rather than worry about something on the internet. Sometimes I applaud bloggers who are able to post so frequently, but at the same time, there may be some underlying health issues that we know nothing about. (I'm only saying this from watching a few YouTubers who have gone through this. They take lots of time to post/film but never enough time for themselves.)

As for being disinterested in beauty…I think that's okay. You can always blog about things outside of beauty too! Don't limit yourself if you still enjoy writing. 🙂

    1. Thank you! 🙂 Yes, I like to spend the time to make my posts and photos as good as they can be and it can be very time consuming (although I didn’t view it as “work” because I enjoyed it so much). But over time I started to feel like it was a chore and procrastinated more and more. I think it’s a natural cycle – by giving myself some time off to not think about it, I will likely miss it and feel more invigorated.

  2. Oh I wish it was still warm here, it’s been autumn since about July! We’re well into jumper weather!
I went through the same last year, feeling unmotivated by makeup/beauty which is why I started branching out to other areas as my brain was just too saturated with beauty! But there’s no point blogging feeling like a chore, come back when you’re feeling passionate!

    1. You hit the nail on the head – it does feel a bit like a chore and I need to build back that passion. I do think it comes and goes – it’s better to just step away for a bit instead of bashing myself for “not feeling it”.

    1. You know me, wanting to do what’s “right”. When I started the blog, I committed to posting once a week minimum and I’m not holding up that promise. But yeah, I’m still around. I love interacting with people. 🙂
Yes I *think* we only have one life…

  3. Blogging should be fun—when it gets to feeling like a slog, it’s time to reassess priorities! I slacked off on the blog most of the summer and while I feel badly about it, I don’t regret it. Had a fun summer with less stress 🙂

Do miss you around, though! 😀 I love your detailed blog posts and comments.

    1. I slacked off this summer toooooo. 😉 Tis the season for slacking. I just thought that come September, I’d be in a better frame of mind. I am looking for my blogging mojo, I guess.

  4. Awww, well I hope you enjoy your break! Your posts will be missed but I completely understand, I go through so many phases where I’m less motivated and just consumed with guilt- it’s the worst! Take care babe xx

  5. I can’t believe it’s 32 C in Toronto. It snowed in Calgary yesterday! Can we trade, pretty please?

Do NOT make yourself feel guilty about taking a break from blogging. I always feel guilty too each time I take a break, or skip a week…but we shouldn’t. Blogging should be fun, not feel like a chore! We all have a life outside of blogging, and sometimes it’s hard to have a balance of work/blogging/social activities/etc. I’m also going through a makeup “phase” right now…we all have our moments.

You always tell me that it’s my blog and to do what I need to do, and the same goes for yourself 🙂

    1. Haha… well, I’ll be experiencing it firsthand myself soon enough! 😉 It’s going to cool down here by end of this week too.

I hear you. Blogging SHOULD be fun. It’s not my job nor is it something that I’m trying to parlay into something more. It’s just difficult to shake that regimented approach even for my hobby. You’re right, I should listen to my own damn advice! 😛

  6. It is understandable and most of all, it is your blog. I think most people feel uninspired sometimes. Hope you have a nice break and enjoy the weather before the fall comes. I don’t think we had a day over 20°C this month here (the UK)😪

    1. I would not mind some UK weather right now – it’s so suffocating lately. I think with the humidity, it feels more like 40C… there’s a heat warning in effect from the government! 😮
It’s true, this is my blog but I did make a commitment when I started the blog that I’d post once a week, I hate going back on my word. 😛

  7. I think we all need a break sometimes, don’t feel bad about taking one! It can be overwhelming trying to keep up post counts and quality, but if you aren’t feeling it it’s best not to push it and burn yourself out. Enjoy your time off!

  8. I went through something like that. You need to be able to take a break and focus on other things right now and come back to it when you’re ready and inspired! That’s the nice thing about blogging!

Enjoy doing other things for now! Have a great break 🙂 ❤

    1. Glad to know I’m not alone in feeling uninspired (well, I knew it at the back of my head, but still, it feels isolating). I mean, it’s about one of my absolutely favourite topics – why don’t I feel like it? I’m looking forward to getting to that point where I miss it so much and can’t wait to get back to it. Here’s hoping! Thanks. 🙂

  9. Hey girl, enjoy your break! I think I’m in the same boat, just no desire to talk about makeup/beauty these days. I don’t enjoy it as much and it was starting to feel like a chore. There are other aspects and interests to our lives that also need to be pursued. A break is much needed.

    Take care 😘

    1. I hate that feeling of blogging as a chore. I get home from work I’m so uninspired – in the past, I would enjoy the break from work and have my hobby to turn to. For some reason, blogging became like a second job or homework? I don’t want to feel like that! I hope the break will give me some perspective. I hope you get your blogging mojo back too! 🙂

  10. I totally get it, I took a break for quite a bit of this year and posted infrequently when I felt like it. I think my personal life was leaving me super drained and unmotivated to blog so I’m finally getting back into it now. Enjoy your break! It definitely does help get the motivation flowing again.

    1. I always believe that real life away from the blog takes priority, so I think it’s good to set the blog aside if it’s getting difficult to balance the two. I just hope the excitement to blog will come back to me! I used to really enjoy thinking about blog ideas and plan time to photograph and write – lately, it’s been really trying. I’ve got a bunch of posts in my draft folder but I don’t want to finish them… it’s like homework or something. 😛

  11. 100% understand where you’re coming from. Your readers will still be here when you get back. 🙂 Everyone needs a break I think! It can get overwhelming! I started a blog just because I love to write but I don’t do well with schedules and time constraints so it can be very difficult maintaining the blog. I say, do what makes you happy! xo

    1. Thank you! Just what I needed to hear. I mainly didn’t want to disappoint my fellow bloggers since I’d committed to write at least once a week. For now, I am more enjoying READING everyone’s blogs rather than putting out my own content. Which I think is ok! It’s really a challenge to balance everything.

      1. I think that can be half the fun of blogging – reading other people’s contents!! I love it. And you have lots of support so I’m positive your readers will still be here when you’re ready to write again! 🙂

  12. I think it happens to us all at some point. I’ve been blogging for well over a decade. I take many breaks, but always return. I guess I just love to write. Whether it be about beauty or randomness.

Good luck with everything though! And here’s to hoping we start experiencing some Fall weather soon!

    1. Wow, you’ve been blogging for so long! Good to know that you’ve taken breaks and always came back. I even started toying with the idea of stopping to blog entirely… but that seems like such an abrupt thing. I just need to find my new groove.
Yes, I suspect when the weather cools down and we’re all hibernating, I’ll be more inclined to blog. Thanks so much!

  13. this is completely normal and often happens when you pressure yourself to blog. it’s your hobby, right? only do it when you feel like it. I can keep my schedule mostly because I tell myself I don’t have to keep it. weird, right?
have fun during your break and do things you enjoy. 🙂

    1. You already have so much on the go with work / relationship / holidays, it’s natural to want to go live life rather than blog. It’s fine! I hope you’re finding the balance too instead of getting burnt out.

  14. I will totally miss your posts! Especially since I’m actually getting back into actually reading other peoples posts O_O But I totally get the need to take a break. I have a lot of different interests and demands on my time and there truly isn’t time to do everything I want to so there’s always something that has to give. I hope you do lots of awesome stuff on your break and I hope you come back rejuvenated 🙂
Dude. I miss fall. It is still stupid hot here and probably will be for at least another month. I’m thinking of taking a road trip to somewhere with actual season changes 🙂

    1. I totally thought I’d replied to your comment… or am I going nuts?
I’m itching to get back to doing more crafty things like knitting and jewellery making – I seem to go in cycles where I gain and lose interest in my hobbies.
Yay for Fall finally descending upon us! 😀

  15. I know how you feel! The past month has been very hectic for me with school starting and work, and I haven’t actually had time to work with my makeup collection or try new products very much. It’s been very hard to make time for the blogging and if I have to do it by squeezing it into a busy schedule it starts feeling like a chore. Taking a break this past month has really helped and now I feel more like blogging!

    1. That’s good to know that there are others in a similar situation. I want blogging to lure me in, rather than feeling like another form of homework. Are you finding a better balance now?

      Liked by 1 person

  16. Absolutely take a break. It is so hard to blog when you are not feeling it. I go through stages where I blog more and sometimes not so much. It is all good. Honestly, I run out of beauty products to talk about, and I don’t want to go out and buy more. Take care and go an experience life and do other things. 🙂

    1. Thank you! It’s be great to allow myself some distance from the blog. I have a lot of ideas swimming in my head but just wasn’t inspired to actually post. I hope that I’ll find an optimal balance.

  17. I was only thinking last week I hadn’t seen a post of yours in a while!

Enjoy your break and I can’t wait to read your posts when you return. I know what you mean about makeup, some days I love it and others I’m not really interested. We all go through blogging ruts and feel unmotivated but I’m sure it will pass 🙂

    Miss you already! 😛

    1. I’ve been trying to keep tabs on everyone during my blogging absence and reading posts when I’m around. 🙂 Sometimes I just enjoy being an observer rather than a creator.
My makeup rut is still lingering a bit – for a few weeks I wore the same makeup look daily which is unusual for me. Now I’m trying to rotate my looks again – I’ll be back posting soon!

  18. Hi there! I have recently found your blog and really like your posts, but I definitely think that it’s important to take a break from time to time. It can be really refreshing and of course as humans, we have other priorities outside of blogging! Cannot wait to see more posts when you get back 🙂 x

  19. Enjoy your break 🙂 Everyone’s entitled to take time away from the screen; if it isn’t making you happy then don’t do it! We’ll all be here when you come back 🙂 Besides, blogging is such a creative endeavour that you can’t CONSTANTLY be inspired and sometimes you just gotta focus on real-off-screen life!xx

    1. It’s true, it’s difficult to be “on” all the time. A big part of the challenge for me is that I have all these ideas swimming in my head, but the desire to execute them is lacking… 😛

  20. It’s been too hot here as well and I don’t like it! Fall is my favorite season and part of that is the chillier temps so I’ve been patiently waiting.
I completely understand the lack of motivation. I’ve had phases before where I find I’m not as into beauty and just wear the same look over and over again out of routine. But I find I always come out of them more in love with makeup. Enjoy your break and don’t force the passion! Let it find you. We’ll all be here if it does 🙂

    1. I’m in that phase right now! I’ve been wearing the same look for the past few weeks – and I’m quite enjoying it. I’m sure I’ll get tired of it eventually but for right now, it works for me! 🙂 Thanks so much!

  21. Hi there!! I do understand you, beacuse I’m also in a break…even though it’s not announced 😉 I’m still doing makeup but then to put it on a photo and start working on it, just takes too much time from me right now. If I get the right inspriration back hoprfully I’ll do a post once in a while. Before I loved doing it but I must have lost something on the way… 😦
I hope to see you back on the blog in the future. But sometimes a break is what you need. ❤

  22. I go through spurts like this as well and a I find a break definitely helps. You’ve always been really consistent with your blogging – something I’ve always admired about you because I totally lack that motivation! I can totally relate to the guilt thing too, I was getting really bad with that until I finally realized I blog much better when I do it because I want to, not because I feel I have to. It still creeps up there sometimes though. Anyway, enjoy your well-deserved break! 🙂

    1. That’s a good observation, about the quality of posts when you want to blog rather than feeling obligated. I still would like to have a regular posting schedule which I still haven’t figured out yet – just need to find a good balance. 🙂

The weather in the mountains can be so varied! When we were out in Alberta a few weeks ago, we had snow, then followed by sunny days with temps of high teens!
