Hauluary 2018 – Online Orders

These are an accumulation of online orders from since late December until now…

Some parcels were shipped from local sources while others came all the way from China and Japan. 🙂

Well.ca

• CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in 932 Nude Beige – $15.49 $9.06
• Cake Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme – $17.98  $7.19

The site offered a few post-holiday deals so while I was ordering toiletries, I snagged these.

I showed the CoverGirl Vitalist Elixir Foundation in my previous Hauluary post and commented that the shade I picked up seemed to be dark. These are the same shade names but see how the Elixir is darker than the Outlast? The Outlast foundation is a great match for me – I’ve also read that the Elixir tends to oxidize… I guess the Elixir foundation will be a mixer!

Sephora

These are from 2 different orders. One was to use my $25 off $50 code back in December and the other was during the clearance sales.

• Burberry Brush No. 11 Small Eyeshadow Brush – $36
• Sephora Collection The Pointer – Blending Sponges – $15
• Bobbi Brown Luxe lipstick in Neutral Rose (2.5g sample) – 100 points

I had a “difficult” time figuring out what to redeem my $25 off $50 code. I didn’t really need anything and wanted to order something right at the $50 mark.  I really like those Sephora sponges so I decided to stock up, and bought the Burberry brush on a whim (because another brush, why not?) So my total was $51, and with the code, I only paid $26. The Burberry brush is very similar to the MAC 239 Eye Shading brush – the Burberry brush is made in France whereas the MAC one is made in Japan.

• ColourPop Semi Precious Shadow Palette – $33.00   $20.80
• Sephora Collection Micellar Cleansing Water & Milk in Yuzu – $10.00   $4.80
• Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Fall Leaves – $13.00   $4.00
• Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (2.3g sample) – 100 points
• Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray (30ml travel size) – 100 points

I almost didn’t buy anything at Sephora during their post-holiday clearance sale.  I waited until January 1st, the last day of their additional 20% off “SALEONSALE” code to get these.  I saw that ColourPop palette on fivezero’s blog and added it to my wish list and pulled the trigger when it went on sale. 🙂 The other items were pure impulse purchases simply because they were in the sale section on the site.  😛

Glambot

• UNII Empty Palette Light Purple – $27.55 USD  $23.42 USD
• Bobbi Brown Empty Palette 4 Square – $9.50 USD  $8.08 USD
• MAC Pro Colour X4 Compact Empty Palette – $7.60 USD  $6.38 USD

Ever since I posted the Megapost on custom palettes, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on another UNII palette, which are no longer available. I googled “UNII palette” and one of the results was Glambot.  I’ve heard of Glambot before but didn’t feel entirely confident about buying used makeup on there – I’d much prefer swapping makeup with people I know, or who are part of an online community, rather than with complete strangers (If you haven’t heard of Glambot, have a read here)  But, I felt that buying an empty palette would be safe.

My old UNII palette (left) and the “new” one from Glambot (right)

The UNII and Bobbi Brown palettes show slight signs of usage but were nearly new looking, whereas the MAC 4 pan compact was actually brand new in the original box. 🙂  This is the discontinued style of the MAC empty palette, which I find to be more compact compared to the current model:

Photo from my Custom Palettes Megapost.  Old compact model on the left, new version on the right.

I was pleased to snag another one of the older style as a backup.

I’ve been wanting the Bobbi Brown empty palette for ages but every time I inquire at the counter, they’re sold out.  Here’s what it looks like with a pan popped in:

The Bobbi Brown eye shadow and blush pans are identical in size – the eye shadow shade is Camel (hauled here) and the blush is Nude Peach (shown in my most recent Hauluary). Now I just have to get 2 more pans to complete my palette! 😉

This is how the items were packed. The card reads, “Hey Babe! The item(s) in this package have been cleaned and processed by a Glambot Team Member. Enjoy!”

There was an additional 15% off coupon using the code “DROP”.  Shipping cost $5 USD if under $100 for international orders, so the discount paid for the cost of shipping.  This shipment took forever to get here – I ordered Dec 27th and it arrived Jan 30th (from San Fran to Toronto) and the tracking # they provided was useless (every time I checked, the status would read “information unavailable at this time”).  I’m unsure if I’ll order off Glambot again.

Beauty Bay

• Anna Sui Kaleidoscope Makeup Coffret – $63.66   C$45.50
• Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Pan in Prom Night – $7.95   C$7.90

I debated on this Anna Sui Holiday kit since Black Friday and finally decided to grab it – I’m so glad I did,  it’s prettier than I pictured!  I picked up MUG Prom Night just because… taupe! (and I said that I would in my MUG haul, plus, I saved $0.05? 😆 )  This order also took ages to arrive. I placed this order on Dec 31st and it arrived on the same day as the Glambot one – on Jan 30th. That’s pretty much expected since my previous orders took about the same time – this actually had to cross an ocean (from Manchester, UK) so I can forgive it. 😛

NailPolishCanada.com

• Trind Nail Balsam – $19.95
• ILNP The Magician – $17.95

I had put up an alert on the site for the Nail Balsam to come back in stock since I’m running low of my current bottle. I love that stuff as a pre-polish nail prep. And of course, while I was on NPC’s site, I had a browse around and saw that the limited edition and sold out everywhere ILNP polish in The Magician was in stock on their site! 😮 What are the chances? If you don’t know about this polish, read more about its legend here (aka “Unicorn Pee” polish).  This had been sold out since last April…

It doesn’t look like much in the bottle but as a topper applied over a dark polish, the polish really shines with a spectrum of rainbow hues (check out this blog for a great example).  Best part about this order? Fully paid for with my ebates rebate. 😀

BeautyBoutique.ca

In mid-January there was a bonus Optimum Points redemption event where the highest tier was worth an additional $40 ($210 instead of the normal $170 value) so I jumped on it (with a little reminder from fivezero! 😉 )

• Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Nail Colour in Black Perfecto – $28  $0
• Dior Vernis Long Wear Nail Lacquer in #257 Incognito – $33  $0
• Chanel Longwear Nail Colour #08 Pirate – $32  $0
• Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in #54 Boy – $43  $0
• Lise Watier Portfolio Professional Correctors in Beiges – $36  $0
• Lancôme Grandiôse Liner in Brun – $40  $2

I own Dior and Guarlain nail polishes already but this is my first Chanel nail polish and lipstick! I’m not sure why, but Chanel makeup has never had much appeal to me. I’ve heard a lot of raves about the lipstick shade in Boy so I hope I’ll like it!

My total was $212 so I had to pay the $2 difference, plus tax (13%) on the full amount.  Yes, we pay 13% sales tax here.

This was my first time ordering off BeautyBoutique.ca – the experience was very good!

The day I placed the order, it was bloody cold outside so I opted to stay indoors rather than trek out to my local Shoppers Drug Mart (really, not that far 🙄 ).  A huge plus with ordering locally: I placed the order on a Sunday and it arrived the next Wednesday! The packing and presentation were excellent – I will definitely order from the site again.

AliExpress

The larger brushes came shipped with brush guards over the brush heads, and extra brush guards were included for free.  From left to right:

• W212 Squirrel Hair Angle Eyeshadow Brush Ebony Handle – $15.19  $14.43
• W216 Pony Shadow Brush Ebony Handle – $11.79  $9.34
• S-105 Goat Hair Eyeshadow Brush (red handle) – $7.39  $6.09
• M05 Goat Hair Shadow Brush (blue handle) – $10.69  $8.89
• K05 Goat Squirrel Highlighter Brush – $14.99 $12.74
• W207 Goat Blusher Brush Ebony Handle – $28.99  $22.94
• Y01 Goat & Synthetic Powder Brush – $21.39  $17.11

I’ve ordered off AliExpress before and recently I’ve been reading online boards about this particular AliExpress shop called Girlstory that sells good quality makeup brushes at affordable prices.  They’re not knock-offs – they’re unbranded or random unknown brands.

They’re not dirt cheap but much less expensive than comparable quality of branded lines. And guess what? These brushes are freaking awesome!  They’re really well-made, feel super soft, and have no weird odour.

I especially like the ebony W-series ones with the pointed handles – they have a solid feel to the handle and the brush heads are very silky.

If you muttered to yourself, “Hey, the red and blue handle brushes look like the MAC 217 brush” then you would not be wrong!  The MAC 217 is like the love child of those two brushes. 😛

Also check out the handles of these!  I want a nail polish colour like that blue / purple handle. I’m having such a love affair with makeup brushes right now…

There was a 7-day sale in January with 5%-25% off depending on the item.  The items arrived lightning fast from China – less than 2 week (and shipping cost was only $2.66 flat rate). If you’re unsure of ordering off AliExpress, I can vouch for this seller – I’m going back for more! (I also heard good things about the brushes from this seller: Makeup Cat. Will likely try some brushes from them too)

CDJapan

• Chikuhodo R-C2 Cheek Brush – ¥4500 (~C$50)
• Koyudo Saikoho Blush Brush Japanese Cherry Birch Handle (Mizume-zakura) – ¥4200 (~C$46)
• Koyudo Macaron Kabuki Brush in Violet – ¥4800 (~C$53)

This is my first time ordering off this site and I know it won’t be my last! There is a promotion for free shipping from Japan so I took advantage. This shipment arrived to me (Toronto, Canada) from Japan in just 6 days! 😮  Japanese brushes are simply top-notch – all of these brushes are so incredibly silky and soft.

The Chikuhodo R-C2 Cheek Brush is made of grey squirrel hair like the Surratt Artistique Cheek Brush (my review on it here), but it feels a bit softer than the Surratt (and more in line with the Yojiya due to the silkiness). And, the Chikuhodo is less than half the price of Surratt!  (I watched this video comparing Surratt and Suqqu brushes and that’s how I learned about the Chikuhodo brush). I chose the Koyudo Saikoho Blush Brush to use as an under eye setting brush (it is made of goat which is more durable) but it turned out to be too dense and too large for that purpose. It’s actually quite similar in size, shape, and softness to the Surratt Cheek brush too. See how the 3 brushes look side by side:

Top to bottom: Chikuhodo R-C2 Cheek Brush, Surratt Artistique Cheek Brush, and Koyudo Saikoho Blush Brush

I’ve inadvertently acquired 2 brushes almost identical to the Surratt and I’m not at all mad about that! 😀  I would say though, if you’re thinking of shelling out for the Surratt Cheek brush, look into Chikuhodo or Koyudo options first.

Would you just look at this cute little mini mushroom Macaron brush? 😍

(I wish I’d put something beside it for scale. It measures approximately 5cm around)

The Koyudo Macaron brushes come in 2 other colours – pink and orange – with pink being the most popular.
Purple is my favourite colour so I knew I had to have that first… but I can see myself getting the pink one eventually.  I’ve used the Macaron brush a few times now and it is softer than all my other kabuki brushes.  I’ve mentioned before how much I like collecting kabuki brushes.  Now I have my eye on several other mushroom-style Japanese brushes:

Upper left clockwise: Koyudo Somell Garden Lemon x Walnut, Cat Flat Top Kabuki, White Kinoko Ebony Wood, and Docomo

I’ve officially caught the Fude Fever! (Fude means brushes in Japanese)  I plan to transition my brush collection bit by bit over to higher quality ones. 😀

And that concludes my Hauluary for 2018. 🙂  Have you bought anything online lately?  Would you ever buy stuff off Glambot? Or off AliExpress?

  1. The Anna Sui lipstick looks soooooo pretty! But also hard to use. I would totally make a mess with that. Way to go on your 5 cent savings though, haha. And holy mother of brushes! I hate buying brushes but I’m trying to make it more of a priority this year.

    1. I have a couple more Anna Sui lipsticks shaped like that. At first I didn’t want to use them but I did… why pay good money for makeup and not use them? (that’s a rhetorical question 😆 )
I love buying brushes, it is a real problem. I need to get rid of the cheapo ones I got off Coastal Scents…

  2. The Magician has long been on my list to get – it’s such a good polish that can be paired with so much!
Oh that Anna Sui collection is so pretty, I remember seeing the pictures of the palette on BB but not what the packaging itself looked like.
The Glambot site sounds intriguing, glad you managed to snag the palettes you were after.
Those brushes from Ali Express look amazing – I did a little analysis of my brushes last night and some of mine are getting tired, I feel like I can justify a few of these, I’m off for a gander!

    1. I was so shocked to see The Magician available! I thought my eyes were deceiving me…
Beauty Bay is so dangerous but also god-sent because they’re my only source for Anna Sui now since all local stores stopped carrying the brand.

I hope you’ll find good replacements for your tired brushes on AliExpress! Be sure to check out the reviews and measurements for each brush – that’s always the risk of shopping online. But I was so impressed by that seller.

    1. I go back and forth about ordering online. It’s risky due to the potential import duties but I’ve been fine. I also worry about things getting damaged or lost – I was so worried about the Glambot one.

      1. It depends where I place the order whether I worry about that. I have had bad experiences with Colourpop. But generally, if I stay under the legal threshold of a whopping €22 excl. shipping I am generally okay. And I love how some websites such as Sephora will calculate all the fees when you order. No surprises there.

    1. I think it’s the difference between the US and other countries. Here in Canada, online shopping is now just getting more popular as there are more options available to us. But we often get dinged with customs charges and exorbitant shipping fees!

  3. I’m living vicariously through this massive haul!

Nice job taking advantage of all the deals in January! What an amazing deal to get all of those luxury makeup products from SDM for free! I’ve also heard nothing but amazing things about Chanel Boy, so fingers crossed it’s beautiful!

Oooh, I could tell in your featured image that the lipstick and compact were from Anna Sui – that brand just has the most whimsical packaging! You can’t ever use that lipstick…it must always remain pristine.

The purple/blue handle on that brush from Aliexpress reminds me of the Surratt brush handles at a glance! Girl, I don’t think you picked up enough brushes. Hehe! The only time I’ve ever purchased from Aliexpress was for bridal/bridesmaid robes for my wedding – the first order never came but the seller was reasonably good about resending them. But I guess 8 months later the first order decided to show up, because I ended up with two of everything, haha.

    1. I kind of wished I’d saved more of my points for the January redemption but ah well. I don’t “need” anything, really… 😛 I wore Chanel Boy just yesterday and I really like it! There’s some shimmer which gives it more interest and looks different than my other MLBB type of lipsticks! It’s like a more pigmented tinted lipbalm – I can actually see myself finishing up the whole tube. So yes, I recommend!

I have a few other Anna Sui lippies with that design and I have used them! Because… remember my new mantra? “Makeup isn’t for collecting, it is for using…” 😇

Oh man, I always worry every time I order something that ships from China. But, I’ve been lucky so far… *knock on wood* Glad that you ended up with what you needed… times two! 😉

      1. Do we ever “need” any makeup? hahah! Oooh Chanel Boy sounds nice!

Haha, glad to hear you’re following your mantra! I suppose when you can get your hands on pretty packaging like that again (although it’s harder to access), it doesn’t hurt AS much to use it…

I feel like for the most part, the sellers on Aliexpress are pretty good about resending purchases that never arrived. The quality of the products is a whole ‘nother issue! I always have problems with how long it takes to ship, though – sometimes it can take 1-2 months!

I forgot to mention that those Macaron brushes are adorable! Especially the one with the cat!

  4. You can never have too many brushes. 😀 haha They especially come in handy when brush-washing time is limited.
That Anna Sui holiday set is stunning! I can imagine it making for a beautiful display. I have such a bad habit of using make-up as props to decorate certain areas. :’D
Ah, and you finally got a Chanel lipstick! I hope you like it. I am obsessed with their lipsticks! There’s such a luxurious feel to them. 🙂
I haven’t tried the Rouge Coco Shine formulation yet but I have heard amazing reviews.
And now you have made me want to scour through AliExpress’ make-up brushes and break my bank account too. :’D Whenever you recommend something I trust that it’s excellent, therefore, I need it. 😉

    1. I’m so guilty of buying more brushes just so I don’t have to wash them as frequently! 😳

I’ve amassed quite a few Anna Sui items over the years and they are all worthy of being display pieces! Why not… our world can be so drab and colourless.

I just wore Chanel Boy yesterday and wore it again today – it is so beautiful! It has some shimmer so it adds a dimension to the lips. Even though I own a lot of MLBB type shades, this one is different simply because of the shimmers. I’m really glad I got it! 😍

I think the AliExpress brushes are good value for the quality! There’s no minimum purchase… you could buy one or two to test out first. 🙂

      1. There really is something special about the Chanel lipsticks. They might not be the absolute longest lasting lipsticks but there’s something about them that makes them holy grail anyway. I am glad you love your purchase!

I will definitely be looking at some brushes on AliExpress then. 😊

  5. The Cake handcream sounds lovely! I like the look of that shimmery Colour Pop palette too 🙂 Anna Sui packaging seems very unique, but in a good way. I hope you enjoy the Chanel lipstick in Boy, the shade looks right up your street! I want to try something from Chanel one day seeing as it’s my name 😛

    1. The Milk Made scent is my absolute favourite smell from that brand. It’s like a mix of marshmallow and pistachio… so creamy and comforting!
I know, you need to try a Chanel product because of your name! I wore the Boy lipstick yesterday and today, and I really like it! It’s a MLBB type shade but it has shimmers. And the texture is like a more pigmented tinted lip balm. 🙂

  6. The Anna Sui products are gorgeous! They look too pretty to use. The Colorpop palette looks gorgeous, I’ve still tried none of their products but I need to! The Unicorn Pee polish looks awesome! I love that it got that title☺ x

    1. It’s not easy to get ColourPop items in the UK, I’ve heard. I only got the chance to try ColourPop from people sending to me and winning a giveaway… but now, ColourPop is available on the Sephora site! It’s not their full selection but I hope they expand more.
Hehe anything “unicorn” seems to be popular and sought after, I suppose. I’m looking forward to playing around with that nail polish topper.

    1. It’s funny, I only know of CDJapan as a place to buy Japanese brushes even though they mainly sell Japanese music, movies, books, comics… I mean, it’s in their name! 😆 I was really happy to get free shipping (EMS, no less) because I’m sure sure I saved at least $20 in shipping cost alone. I used to think that I understood what a soft brush felt like but my exposure to Japanese brushes have now opened a whole new world! 😀

  9. The Elixir is a mixer… was that an intentional rhyme? It was stuck in my head for the rest of the blog post 😛

The Guerlain polish bottle is so pretty and a bit OTT, but hard not to love. Those little brushes are so darned cute c:

I’m sure you would not be surprised, but the only online shopping I’ve done recently is polish. A few indie brands have come out with polishes based on stuff I like (Thor, The Princess Bride) and I can’t resist.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. LMAO! I didn’t intend that at ALL. Ok, now I can’t stop saying it in my head either… 😆

I agree, that Guerlain polish is so Extra… but so endearing too. I really like their old polish formula so I hope this one is similar.

I’m feigning surprise… YOU? Nail polishes? 😱 So, I had to google Thor nail polishes… is it the collection from Moon Shine Mani? 😮 Let me guess… you got the green ones? What brand did The Princess Bride polishes… that movie has been on tv a lot lately and we always feel compelled to watch it every time it’s on…

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yes, the Thor polishes I got were from Moon Shine Mani, as well as The Princess Bride ones! I wish I had been able to get both green polishes, but only one was available when I made the purchase 😛 otherwise, you know I would have gotten both!

    1. I hope you’ll like the Chikuhodo R-C2 brush! It comes in a black handle option too, but the red was really eye catching. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have just gotten the Chikuhodo and skipped the Surratt (and save myself some money!) 🙂

  10. Great Haul! You got lots and lots of brushes! Haha! I wouldn’t have ever bought brushes off AliExpress but I’ll have to see the store you mention if I’m ever needing any. I love collecting all types of blending brushes so for that price I could get a few! 😉

Isn’t beautyboutique so good! I love shopping if I’m too lazy to go to Shoppers (although I love the associates at my local shoppers, they are the sweetest!). Everything is always packaged so nicely, I reuse the boxes to store some of my stuff.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I go through a lot of brushes because I prefer to use a fresh clean one daily (then all the dirty ones end up in a container waiting to be washed for weeks) so that’s why I end up buying so many! 😛 Blending brushes are so useful! What’s your favourite so far?

I’m not sure if I can go back to shopping at Shoppers’ stores after buying from online! There were items I had never seen in stores… it was tempting to go overboard. Yes, I couldn’t bear to throw that box out so for now it’s holding some nail polishes. 😉

  11. I love Girlstory! They’re one of my favorite brush vendors, and so far the only way I know of to get Shoushoulang ebony brushes without going through Taobao. From the SSL ebony series, I have three of the goat face brushes and I’m loving them like crazy. The hairs are so flippin’ glossy! The eye brushes while soft and pretty to look at, I never seem to reach for. Great haul!

    1. Oh so happy to know someone else who has bought from Girlstory! 😀 I’ve never heard of the brand Shoushoulang before and when I googled them, I landed on their Taobao site which was like doing down a rabbit hole! I assume the AliExpress site sells authentic Shoushoulang brushes? The W207 Goat Blusher Brush Ebony Handle is so silky, I can’t believe it’s “just” goat hairs. Next, I’ve got my eye on W201 Powder, W203 Blusher, and W225 Highlighter brushes…

Any other brushes you like from Girlstory that you would recommend?

And what other AliExpress brush vendors do you like? I saw a couple stores that look good:
      Energy: https://energy.aliexpress.com/store/2489006
      MSQ: https://msqlades.aliexpress.com/store/201788

And, do you have posts on your blog about your makeup brushes? ❤

All those brushes~~~(obsessed)!!!!!! Okay, that macaron / mushroom kabuki brush got me. I need it for my collection.

I never bought any makeup stuff from Aliexpress, ebay or Amazon. I get really scared. I have only bought cosmetics online from clarins.fr, clinique.fr, boots, sephora, yesstyle.com and MAC. Buying online freaks me out.

    1. I think I’m a mixture of lucky and persistent when it comes to getting my hands on hard to find items! 😛

True story, that Koyudo Macaron mushroom brush made my powder foundation apply SO smoothly! I had been having a challenge on how to apply the Shiseido powder foundation because it looked a bit cakey but that mushroom brush saved it!

I’ve had no issues buying online – I just do a LOT of research beforehand and I don’t go for the cheapest deal (often not the best deal!)

Yes, the CT brush took time to “settle down” but it is a good brush! The shape and size make it good for the kinds of blushes that act as contours too, like Nars Madly.

I’ve heard of the lure of the “unicorn pee” polish for ages… there’s something about the pigment being really hard to source and now it’s completely discontinued. So glad I got my hands on it – I feel like I’m part of an exclusive club!

  17. I picked up another bottle of that CoverGirl foundation and I’m going to be using it in March in my monthly makeup focus. It’s easily one of my favourite foundations at the drugstore.

I ordered from Beauty Boutique during that Spend Your Points event too and was so impressed with the service! I wish they’d expand their brands, I’d order from there a lot more if they did.

How do you like that Lancome liner? I’ve been eyeing it for months because I like the design and feel like it would be easy to apply (given that I suck at applying liner) but was wondering about it’s lasting power.

That little macaroon brush is adorable! Made me smile 🙂

      1. I’ve actually see that brush referred to as the macaroon brush too but I chalk it up to “lost in translation” from Japanese to English. 😛

    1. Glad to see another fan of that CoverGirl foundation! I’m curious, what’s your favourite higher end foundation? I don’t have one currently that’s not discontinued… I will eventually need something else!

I hope BeautyBoutique will include more mass brands on that too, to balance out the high end stuff. Then they can really edge out Sephora. They can become like what Ulta is!

I actually haven’t tried the Lancome liner yet. I am waiting for the weekend to give it a test drive. I hate trying new makeup to go to work in case they suck…
