Trash Stash: May 2017

This month was the month of finishing up a lot of facial skincare:

I finished both my day and night creams, plus a bunch of other essential face product. So weird how that happens.

Trash Stash: April 2017

A couple of housecleaning items to kick off today’s post.  First: May the Fourth be with you! 😀 And second: I seem to be in spam hell once again. I’ve left a bunch of comments yesterday on various blogs and they all disappeared.  It’s so frustrating when that happens – can you please check your spam box? Onward to my April Trash Stash! This month turned out to be ok for empties – I thought I’d have only a few to show but I am on an ambitious plan to clear out my cabinets of items that just aren’t working for me.

It was fairly well balanced in terms of skincare, body, hair and makeup stuff, actually.

Favourites Lately: Mid-2016

I started doing quarterly favourites this year since monthly favourites don’t work for me, as my favourites tend to remain fairly static month over month. But with the changing seasons, I do find a shift in my skincare and makeup, so I’m able to pick some some seasonal favourites to share. My mid-year favourites focus on items I used in the Spring and when I went on my trip to Japan.

Your turn: Grade MY skincare routine

So it was suggested that I put my skincare routine up for scrutiny since I was so ruthless in my grading of my friends’ skincare routines.  No problem, I’ve not nothing to hide!

Skin type: combination (slightly oily t-zone, normal cheeks), with hormonal breakout on chin.  I also have skin sensitivity and tend to break out in hives randomly (allergies, cold/hot weather). My skin also doesn’t tolerate too much manual manipulation (ie scrubs)  I’m a delicate flower, what can I say? Continue reading

Anti-aging products

Let’s preface this post by saying that I’m not an expert on skincare – my opinions are just my anecdotal, personal experience.  I also don’t battle with too many skin concerns in terms of deep wrinkles or loss of firmness – I would say that I’m in more of a preventative and maintenance mode.

Don’t want this to happen!

My current primary concerns are:
•   Fine lines: laugh lines, forehead, and under eye area
•   Sun spots, aka my freckles – I get comments on them [from mostly Asian sales associates] but I’ve had my freckles since I was young, so I’m not sure if they really are a sign of aging?
•   Sallow / dull appearance

My key anti-aging arsenal.

I mainly use targeted anti-aging products at night before bed, for a few of reasons: typically these products are richer and I’d rather not have greasy skin during the day.  Also, when sleeping, the skin goes through a renewal process which lends itself to better absorb and utilize the anti-aging skincare ingredients.  Lastly, some anti-aging ingredients, such as retinods, cause sun sensitivity so I would rather avoid that if possible.  During the day time my primary focus is sun protection.
