MUJI to GO! [+ Giveaway!]

[THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED]

Exactly a week ago, I had the pleasure of attending an intimate Open House at the MUJI Canada HQ in Toronto. Imagine my excitement to get a behind-the-scenes look at where the busy bees make MUJI happen! And how timely, since I’d just visited MUJI in Japan, the mothership! 😀

The Open House was focused on introducing us to the MUJI to GO concept, which is all about travel essentials. Myself, along with 4 other Toronto bloggers and YouTubers, were given a hands-on demonstration of the MUJI to GO products.

Japanese Makeup Haul!!!

Yeah you were all waiting for this, weren’t you! 😛

Personally, I didn’t think I went completely overboard with makeup shopping. For one thing, I was supremely worried about wandering around Tokyo at night by myself to go shopping. Why I had to go shopping in the evenings was because my days were filled with sightseeing! And then, by the evening, I was so tired from walking around all day, I didn’t spend too much time shopping.  Also, I was shopping rather critically: lots of Japanese makeup is super sparkly and sheer. If it wasn’t something I’d truly use, I passed on it – so that left me with a more narrow band of items I’d spend my money on (not to mention, haul home).  Here’s what I got:

CANMAKE
Japan_makeup_haul2016_2
• Marshmallow Finish Powder in MO Matte Ochre and MB Matte Beige Ochre
• Cream Cheek in #05 Sweet Apricot and #14 Apple Cream Red (I swear I had another shade in my basket but it didn’t make it home with me!)
• Gokubuto mascara (volumizing)
• Gokunobi mascara (lengthening)
• Colourful Nails polish in #33 Pink Glitter
• Lasting Multi Eyebase WP (eye shadow primer)
I had some ideas of brands I’d want to look at when I was in Japan. I originally glossed over Canmake as being too girly for me. But it turns out their products are quite well reviewed and very reasonably priced! I ended up researching a lot on @cosme awards (which seems to be the Japanese makeup Bible) to find out which items to try and several of these were award winners. I do wish I’d gotten more cheek products – they have so many cute ones to choose from.

Project Focus 10: The Final Chapter

This is the final summary post of the Project Focus 10 collaboration! Firstly, I want to thank the awesome collab crew of Ingrid, Joy and Jodi! It has been so much fun doing this project with you! 😀
focus10_final_2
So, how did I do in the Project Focus? If I was to grade myself in terms of sticking to using the items I chose, I’d give myself a B. It’s a solid grade but it isn’t going to get me on the Honour Roll. 😛 Unlike some of my collab buddies, I did not finish any of the 10 items up during this project, but I intend to continue working on them! Here’s a recap and current state of things.

Collab: Project Focus 10

New year, new collaboration!  This is another brainchild of miss Ingrid (aka Curly.Spring.Blossom) who approached me with a 10 week long blog series called Project Focus 10.  The idea of this series is to focus on beauty products to try to either use them up, or give them more attention:
• 10 weeks
• 10 beauty products we have never reviewed, that we want to focus on or hit pan
• 10 different product categories
There are 4 of us doing this collab so that means we’ll be showcasing 40 products!  How awesome is that? 🙂

Today is the introduction to the 10 products! Mine are:

Best of 2015 discoveries

I posted my list of beauty discoveries in 2014 when I started this blog so I thought I’d continue the tradition this year. I consider something a “discovery” if it’s new to me, not necessarily something that was launched that year. Since I was on a No-Buy all year, I was either using up items in my stash or opening up unopened products that I had hoarded. I decided on the Top 15 since I saw it on Classic Maggie’s blog (I suppose next year I’ll need to list 16 items?)  I’ll differentiate the Rediscoveries with (R) and New discoveries with (N) on my list.

Where available, I’ve linked to blog posts where I’ve either reviewed or mentioned the products. In no particular order:

Evening cleansing routine

I take cleansing quite seriously.  In the morning, it’s not as much of a focus for me, since my skin is mainly covered with skincare that I applied the night before, and any sebum from my skin from sleeping.  However, by nighttime, my skin has gone through a full day of external elements including skincare, makeup, sebum and any environmental pollutants / dust that have coated my face for 16+ hours. I need to remove all of this thoroughly before applying my evening skincare.

I use 4 key cleansing products:
• Oil cleanser
• Eye makeup remover
• Micellar water
• Toner

Here’s a more in-depth look at what I’m currently using.

Muji haul

I’ve been semi-naughty and bought a few things from Muji.  Nothing is outright makeup, but it’s all beauty related items that I don’t really need.  In my defense, I’ve been after these Muji items ever since they opened their first Canadian store last November.  But it was mayhem after the opening: line-ups to get into the store, crowds, and out of stock / empty shelves for months.  Finally, it seems things have quiet down and when I stopped into the store yesterday, they had everything I wanted in stock, and I didn’t have to shove anyone out of the way or “accidentally” bump into them with my shopping basket…
