Review: Poshé topcoat

This post is dedicated to chicandpolished, who requested that I do a review on Poshé topcoat after I raved about it in my Essie gel-setter topcoat review.

It is by far my favourite fast drying topcoat that I’ve tried!  I push it onto all my friends and they love it too. 🙂

Review: Essie Gel•Setter Top Coat

By now you’ve probably heard about the Essie Gel•Setter™ top coat – it’s fairly new on the market and promises “cushy, rock-hard shine of a gel, in a foolproof formula”. I was living under a rock and had not heard about this but stumbled upon a display while I was doing some birthday hauling. I picked it up mainly because at the time I had just recently got gel polish applied and loved the shine of the gel polish. Also, the top coat was on sale. 😉

Today’s entry was prompted by THIS post from fivezero, showing the new Deborah Lippmann Fall 2015 collection called “Undressed”, which caused my face to go like this:

Belated birthday presents

I thought I’d post these belated birthday presents since they’re all beauty related!  Since I was away for my actual birthday in July, I received some of my presents later (not the givers’ fault!)  Here’s what I received (or purchased with the gift card that I received):

Untrieds: Illamasqua Purity nail varnish

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Untrieds nail polish post! Today I bring you Illamasqua Purity.
illamasquaPurity5
It is described on Illamasqua’s site as:

Peach.

Uh, ok. Short and sweet.  To add to this, I’d say this not a soft peach, it’s a bold peach if there’s such a thing. Almost a neon peach.

The Face Shop: Paraffin Nutrition Nail Pack

I was in The Face Shop store to stock up on more of my konjac sponges and came across some new mask offerings they had at the store, including this Paraffin Nutrition Nail Pack.  It was only $2 per pack.  I had recently removed gel nail polish which left them quite dry, so I thought it would be a great time for me to test the paraffin treatment to help re-hydrate my nails.

Back to school: Teen pack

I know you’re saying, HOLD UP, it’s not Back to School time yet, it’s only the beginning of August.  And you would be right.  But you would also be wrong.  Have you been in the mall lately?  Summer clearances galore, and Back to School merchandise are making the annual creep… and it gets me SO excited!  No, I’m not excited for kids going back to school – I couldn’t care less – I’m excited for the Back to School merchandise.

This is something you probably don’t know about me, but every year without fail, I buy a Back to School beauty pack from the drugstore.  I’m not even the intended customer for these packs, but I can’t be the only non-teen-aged person to buy these packs for themselves, right?  I’m uh, picking this up for my sister / cousin / friend (me).

This is the “Teen Pack” this year from Shoppers Drug Mart:

At-home gel polish removal

I’ve never attempted get polish removal by myself before – I’ve always gone back to the salon where I had the gel polish applied and paid the $10 to have someone else to soak off them for me.  I was curious in trying to remove them myself and found this wikihow article – it doesn’t seem that difficult!

First, this is what my gel nails look like exactly 2 weeks after I had them applied:

Not bad huh! I only had a tiny little chip on the tip of my right thumb where I caught it on a zipper accidentally.  I do have quite a bit of nail growth though. The method I’m showing you will also work for stubborn glitter nail polishes too!

It’s my birthday and I’ll buy if I want to

I went to Sephora with the intention of picking up my “free” birthday present. And maybe if they had the Surratt Relevée Lash Curler, I would pick it up, cause, you know:
sephora_mordor
The Surratt curler wasn’t in stock but the “Hot Now” display was screaming out at me – they were featuring the new hakuho-do + Sephora Pro brushes with the red lacquered handles:

Gel polish for vacation

A quickie post to show off my freshly painted gel nail polish!
gelmani2
The shade I got is called #117 Strawberry Kiss from the brand Bio Seaweed Gel.  I like getting gel nail polish applied at the salon when I’m going on vacation – I never bring along nail polish or remover with me so I’d rather have something that will last me a long time.  It cost me $30 for a manicure and polish application and will last at least 2 weeks with no chips.

Do you ever wear gel polish?

PS. I’ll be on vacation starting tomorrow – the SO stocked up on 3 bags of beef jerky so we’re all set for our road trip! 😛 If you are interested in my adventures, follow me on instagram (@stashmatters) where I’ll be posting pictures from the trip!  See ya! 😉
