Born Pretty Newbie Nail Stamping Haul

Yes you read it correctly, it’s a HAUL. But I’m in a No-Buy month…

…these were ordered back in January and only arrived recently! 😮  Remember I mentioned in my “Last Hauluary” post that I was expecting 2 more parcels in the mail? One was the HauteLook TheBalm order, and the other one was this! 😉



This haul from Born Pretty has been brewing for a while but I was pushed over the edge after Cherry’s Beauty Blog posted “Top 10 Nail Art Items for Beginners” (after I pestered her) which featured her top recommendations from the site. I placed my order on January 14th and was notified that my order shipped on the 18th. I waited. And I waited. And I waited some more. Finally on March 4th (7 weeks after I placed the order), I decided to send a message to their customer service. They replied quite promptly, the next day:

We will check it for you, please do not worry.

I felt reassured. However, I did not hear back. But, luckily for me, the parcel showed up on March 22nd. So I’m not sure if it really took 63 days to ship the parcel from China to Canada, or if they realized the parcel didn’t ship out originally and shipped out the parcel on March 5th. 😳 Whatever the case may be, I got my loot! Here’s what I got:

• Red Metal Nail Art Clear Jelly Silicone Stamper – $3.99 USD

Cherry advised that this was her best find from Born Pretty so I had to give it a try! It came with 2 scrapers:

• Born Pretty Holographic Holo Nail Polish #12 Teal – $6.99 USD
• Born Pretty Nail Art Stamping Nail Polish #3 Black – $3.99 USD

The holo polish is teeny tiny! But the colour is pretty and the holo is strong. The black stamping polish was another recommendation by Cherry!

• Born Pretty Star Tree Nail Art Stamping Plate BP43 – $0.79 USD
• Qgirl Flower Texture Pattern Nail Art Stamping Plate Pattern #Qgirl-057 – $0.99 USD

These were from the “Under $0.99” section. I have no idea if I chose wisely but I liked the sample “inspiration” photos of these. Let’s see if I can try to recreate them.

• Silicone Stamping Mat 28x21cm – $7.99 USD

This comes in 2 sizes, I got the larger one to cover my working surface better. I have spilled nail polish before… 😮  This was also a recommendation by Cherry.

I thought it was amusing that the black polish was shipped in a snug pre-formed Styrofoam casing:

The smaller holo polish was just loose in the parcel. The shipping envelope was padded, so both arrived in one piece. I’m happy with my order, save for the delay in receiving my parcel but I wasn’t in a huge rush to get these items. Did I mention that shipping is free internationally, regardless of the order value? 😀  In the future, I’ll manage my expectations of the shipping time when I order off Born Pretty.

  1. What cute stuff! I’ve never tried nail stamping either, though I was sorely tempted the last time I was at Trade Secrets and saw some MoYou stamping kits.

    1. I’m not even sure I’ll look the look of stamped design on my nails. I love looking at nail art on other people but I don’t think it’s going to be for me on a daily basis. Maybe I’ll try to do subtle designs / colour combinations. I know that might defeat the whole idea of stamping but I’ll want to put my own spin on it…
      Personally, I think I’m more interested in the process / learning / attempting something new – rather than the result. 😛

    1. I have a cheapo set I got from a discount store – I’ve heard it’s decent so I’m going to try that set and these new gadgets to see how they all work. I need a chunk of time to experiment… 🙂
      Yes, that mat would come in handy for anyone who applies nail polish!

  4. So we should expect to see some nail art from you in the near future??
    This is all so fascinating to me, because I know absolutely zilch about nail art – do you put the stamps into that silicone stamper? Looking forward to see how everything comes together!
    Ordering from China is such a shot in the dark. I’ve ordered some things and they take two weeks to come. Then I order something else from the same company and it takes 3 months to come. Arghh!

    1. I will definitely ATTEMPT some nail art haha! I might just play around and not actually keep them on my nails. I just don’t know how I feel about seeing my nails all jazzed up. BUT, I think a huge part of the fun is the process!
      Yeah, China to Canada, or Korea / Japan to Canada even, is a crap shoot! I’ve experienced similar – 2 weeks no problem, and then months… 😳

  5. Oh wow! Finally!! Looks good Stashy. You’ll have fun 😍 but please put liquid latex or tape around your cuticles when you’re stamping. That polish is very pigmented, don’t want you sitting there cleaning for ages 😌
    The plates look good too!

    Well, glad that you’ve finally got your parcel. The stamp thing looks like fun. Wonder how it works. Nails are not flat surfaces? 🤔

    Okay, with that amount of waiting/shipping time, I’d rather not buy from them 😅

    1. The stamp itself is slightly domed and you kind of roll the image onto your nails – plus, it is rubbery so it can conform to the shape of the nails. I’m only speaking based on videos – no actual experience! 😉
      We’ll see how these work out – in the future, I will know to plan out my purchases well in advance!

        You cannot stamp entire coats of polish onto a nail. But you can make decals on your stamping mat. 🙂

        Whilst I’ve never used any matte or mattifying nail product, I would say that you could try to sponge the different toppers onto your nails. Google rainbow nail art sponge and when you see the sponge you’ll know what I mean. Just replace the rainbow colours with two toppers. I’m sure you’ll have to sponge (=apply) several coats onto your nails, and the finish won’t be super smooth, but this would be the first thing that I’d try.

        You could also try to make a clear shiny/matte ‘gradient’ decal on your nail art mat. But in order to get the tonal finish right, you’d have to sponge the toppers onto the nail art mat as well (again, I’m pretty sure you’ll need several coats of topper, so you’ll be sponging a lot)!

        I’m sorry I can’t give you THE answer with this one. I’ve never been into matte nails and I’ve never experimented with matte toppers. So I can only tell you what I’d try.

        Anyway, Stashy, I think you should order a bunch of nail wheels. Consider them training wheels (literally). That way you don’t have to try anything on your own nails. 🙂

          The sponging technique sounds interesting but messy – do you put liquid latex or protect your cuticles in some way?

          I do have a bunch of nail wheels and single nail sticks off AliExpress:

          1. Ahhh, I see what you mean! I think it’s possible to stamp a clear image onto a coloured base – no matter if matte or shiny. But I’m not sure if you’ll see much of it. I once stamped black onto black – it was visible if you looked closely, but that was actually it.

            But yes, play with your nail wheels and nail sticks!

            I don’t use latex barriers because I’m allergic to latex (it won’t kill me, but it’ll give me a nasty rash and an angioedema). I’ve seen latex-free barrier products, but so far I’ve managed to do without these products. The sponge thing doesn’t have to be a total mess. Just cut the sponge so that it has the same width as your nails, and it should be OK. But have q-tips ready, just in case. 😉

            But yeah, play with your nail props! Every stamp or ‘nail art idea’ will lead to ten new ideas. You’ll be Stashy the Mani Fairy in no time! 🙂

  14. Can’t wait to see how your nail stamping turns out! I love the look of nail stamping but I’m so intimidated by it – I can barely apply a few coats of polish decently so it’s probably not for me.

    Love that blue/green holographic polish – so pretty!

    1. I’m going to test stamping on those nail swatching sticks first to get the hang of it. I’ve read so many how-tos and watched so many tutorials! Fingers crossed! 😛
