Guest Post: Sleek Solstice Palette – Rough Condition Review

Today we have something different on the blog – a guest post by Joyce of Local Girl Foreign Land! Her blog is primarily about travel, with smattering of lifestyle and snack subscription boxes. Back in July, we got chatting about the possibility of doing a cross-over type of post, whereby she reviewed a makeup item on my blog, and I post about a travel destination on her blog. And here we are! Here’s Joyce, in her own words:

Sleek Solstice Palette – Rough Condition Review

The colours are BEAUTIFUL and beam like there is no tomorrow. All 4 are metallic highlighters.

  • Ecliptic – champagne (cream), brow bone & cupid’s bow friendly, finger application is the best friend, easy to blend
  • Hemisphere – purple/lilac (baked powder), HIGHLY pigmented, hard core mirror-like metallic finish & not easy to blend, use with caution, animal hair brush recommended
  • Subsolar – yellow (feels like pressed powder), fine but bright metallic finish
  • Equinox – orange (baked powder), a very flattering soft highlighter *Sleek recommended this for cupid’s bow. If you do use this for cupid’s bow, re-apply is necessary after drinks / food.

PP12: KATE Stick Concealer in Natural Beige

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving Day today! Happy Turkey Day to my fellow Canadians. Yes, we celebrate Thanksgiving way earlier than the US. Find out why here.  Onto regular programming – an update on Project Pan!

KATE is a Japanese brand that I had some exposure to when I visited Hong Kong about 5 years ago.  It is owned by Kanebo, the conglomerate that also owns Lunasol and Sensai. KATE is their lower-end drugstore range. Today I’m showing the Stick Concealer in Natural Beige:

I got interested in this product because people raved about how it is a cheaper alternative for the cult favourite Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer. For those not familiar with that – it is supposed to be The Concealer to End All Concealers.  It also has a hefty price tag to match – it costs $70 USD (approx C$90 at current exchange rate), while the KATE Stick Concealer costs only ¥1,000 (approx C$12.50) for 3.1g of product.  I was intrigued so I ordered this online in early 2014.

September 2016 Low-Buy Accountability

I decided not to do a Trash Stash (empties) post for September since I’m so backlogged with posts but I definitely want to squeeze in my accountability for the month. Here are some of the items that got added to my stash:
lowbuy_201609_2
To refresh, for the month of September, I had -$91.68 balance left in my budget. Yup, you read that correctly, I was in the hole. No makeup spending for me. But luckily, I went on vacation in September so the “Vacation Clause” kicked in, as is universally known. 😉

PP12: Shiseido Luminizing Satin Face Color in High Beam White

I’m playing catch-up with the Project Pan items so that’s why I’m doing two PP12 entries this week.

Today we’re looking at the not very well known Shiseido highlighter called High Beam White.
project_pan_2016_shiseido_high_white_beam_5
Shiseido does not call this a highlighter per se, it’s inconspicuously grouped in with their Luminizing Satin Face Color range, which are their blushes. Shisido also offers a golden highlighter shade in the same line, called Soft Beam Gold. At last check on both the US and Canadian website, I do not see High Beam White listed anymore so I’m fairly certain that this is discontinued! 🙄 Typical! I paid C$38 for this compact, which contains 6.5g of product.

Mediterranean Cruise Makeup Haul

You know, I really didn’t set out to haul makeup during my cruise trip but then Ms Polished and Inspired reminded me that makeup purchases made while on vacation do not count toward my Low-Buy, so thoughts of makeup seeped into brain while I was vacationing in the Mediterranean. I blame her. Here’s the damage:

Honestly, not too bad. 😛

Project Pan 12: Anna Sui Eyebrow Color Compact in Ash Brown

I’m playing catch-up this week with my Project Pan updates since I was delinquent while on vacation! I’ll do 2 products this week and 2 next week to get caught up with the rest of the PP12 crew! If you don’t remember what Project Pan is, here’s a refresher (I’ve nearly forgotten, myself! 😉 ) My first Project Pan item showcased was the Sephora Colorful Jumbo Liner 12 Hr Wear in 07 Brown.

Today, I’m reviewing Anna Sui Eyebrow Color Compact in 03 Ash Brown:

Like all Anna Sui products, the packaging is absolutely adorable! But how’s the product inside?

PSA: My Comments are in Your Spam Box!

It’s happening again! I’ve been leaving too many comments it seems. Please check your spam box to release my comments – I’m in spam jail right now! 😦 I’ve sent a note to WP – hopefully this will be sorted out by the weekend.

Sometime around 10 this morning, my comments on other people’s blogs started to not post.  When I hit reply, the comment would disappear – leading me to believe that they were going into the recipients’ spam box.  Thanks to Jodi of A Brash Attitude, who verified for me that my comments were indeed going into her spam box.  It’s also been verified on a few other blogs that for some mysterious reason, my comments are being flagged as spam! I’m no spammer, I’m Stashy! 😛

So, I’m asking for your help.  On your blog, please follow these steps:

1) Go to your WP Admin Dashboard, it is located here:
https://yourblogname.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php
(replace “yourblogname” with your blog’s name! 😉 )

Or you can click through from the WordPress “My Site” (where it shows your stats), scroll all the way to the bottom:

Mediterranean Cruise – Trip Photos

Hey! I’m back from our cruise to the Mediterranean. 🙂 It was a fantastic trip! But I’ll start out with the not so good: our flight home from Venice was delayed by over 5 hours because of a careless remark by a fellow passenger. What was an otherwise seamless transport from sea to air was marred by what the captain of the flight called “an asinine comment”. Apparently during the check-in process, someone on our flight made a comment about airport security – we never found out who it was or what the person said or if the person was detained afterward. We were kept in the dark about the situation until after we reboarded the plane. We had all originally boarded the flight on time but the plane just sat on the tarmac for over an hour until we we told that due to a “technical issue”, we had to to take all of our stuff and deplane. Then we had to go through security screening again – we thought it was a mechanical issue with the plane so we all joked that we were going through screening again to provide us with “something to do” while they fixed the plane. They had one screening station for the entire flight! 😡 The Italian police and fire department were called and the cargo hold thoroughly checked. Our flight was scheduled to depart at 11:30am but we did not leave until close to 5pm. It wasn’t the worst thing by any means for us, we just got home later than we had anticipated. But for many fellow passengers who had connecting flights, they missed their flights and were put on the next available flight – some were rebooked for flights departing 2 days later! 😮 So, please please even if you think it’s a funny joke, don’t utter any comments about airport security while in the airport / airplane. They take this stuff seriously! 🙄 I said to the SO, “Imagine if this had happened when we were flying out to Venice and missed the cruise ship?” Ugh!

Here’s a picture to thank you for reading the above. 🙂 It’s a shot of our cruise ship from a hilltop restaurant in Santorini, Greece.

Now, with that out of the way, onward to the good stuff! 😛

Ciao!

cruise

I’m off on a Mediterranean cruise! 🙂

I will truly be unplugged so I won’t be updating the blog or posting social media for the duration of my trip. But I’ll be sure to share my experiences and photos once I’m back at the end of the month.

See you!

Travel Makeup and Skincare: Cruising

I’m going on a Mediterranean cruise coming up this week and we’ll be gone for 10 days. 😀 I want to pack super light for this trip since it’ll be fairly casual, and since we’re going to warm places, I don’t anticipate wanting to wear too much makeup.

And I’ve just started the Project Pan so technically I’m supposed to be focused on using those products, so I’ve tried to incorporate a few items on this trip.  I’ll be listing skincare here too.
