Blogmas Day 4: Snow Themed Makeup
Today is another coordinated Blogmas post where we’re pulling items from our makeup collections to create a snowy makeup look.

To me, a snow themed makeup means 2 things: white and sparkly!
Today I’m excited to announce the launch of my first ever BLOGMAS! Ingrid of Curly.Spring.Blossom came up with this idea and asked if I’d be interested! So, Ingrid, Kaily of Hello Kaily, Sharon of Sharon Beauty Prime and myself (we’re calling ourselves the Babes in Blogland) will be posting 25 consecutive days for the holiday season. Our Blogmas will be primarily focused beauty topics with a Christmas spin. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday all 4 of us will be posting about the same topic, so be sure to check out each of our take on the topic du jour! 😀
Our topic today is RED & GREEN stuff (or Red & Green sh!t as the classy Kaily called it). I’m interpreting this topic as a showcase of red and green makeup items from my stash.

It would have been a bit of a cop-out to just feature nail polishes so I did make an effort to include actual makeup stuff. 😛
I’ve been wanting to start some Throwback Thursday (TBT) posts for a while now, and I figured I’d start with a fun one: Internet Archive Wayback Machine

If you’re not familiar, Internet Archive Wayback Machine started in 1996 to archive the World Wide Web, page by page. You just type in a url into the Wayback Machine and it will display a timeline with every instance that a snapshot has been made of the site:

What’s great about the Wayback Machine is that it retains a fully functioning website with links and images (where available) as if time stood still. I’m fond of nostalgia, so I could honestly spend hours looking up old versions of websites. For fun, I dug up some old makeup sites!
Since I’m guilty of buying new foundations instead of using up my current open bottle(s), typically I have at least 12 different ones on the go. Some of them are better suited for the summer, while others are only used during the winter months. My skin tone often straddle between light and medium shades, so I typically mix 2 different shades to get a suitable colour match. In addition, mixing different foundation formulas helps to get a finish that works better for my combination skin type.

Typically, I like to mix foundations to both colour match and improve on the formulations to my liking.
On this Labour Day holiday, I thought I would examine where in the world our cosmetics are made. It’s something that I always take note whenever I buy a product – I like to turn over the compact or box to find that fine print: made in xx / fabriqué au xx. For me personally, of the typical cosmetics producing countries, here’s how I rank them in terms of quality, from high to low: Disclaimer: this post in no way is a reflection of all qualities of products made in each country. I understand that there are high and low quality products made in every country. This is a generalized overview, and as such, there will be exceptions.
France – most notable for perfumes and skincare. Certain brands exclusively produce in France, staying true to their origin, such as Guerlain, Chanel, and Bourjois. I feel that these brands focus on controlling both the heritage and integrity of their products. There are also excellent pharmacy skincare brands like Nuxe, Avene and Bioderma – luckily in Canada we have easy access to these brands!

Interestingly, I noticed that my Benefit Boxed Powder Blush changed from “Made in USA” (in the shade Dallas) to “Made in France” (Hervana) and 4g less product!

As I’m laying out all my lip stuff in preparation for photography in today’s post, The Boy asks me, “What’s the purpose of all these pictures?”
“They’re to show my whole collection on the blog.” I reply.
“So it’s like… makeup porn?” he asks.
“YUP! You got it!” 😆
My lip stash is probably the least exciting of all of my stashes – the majority of my lip products can fit into one frame:

I’m just not that into lipsticks. I feel bold colours don’t suit my face. I’m also not into matte textures or shimmer, or overly glossy finishes – so it leaves me with a fairly narrow band of comfort zone, as you’ll see in my stash. And I only own 5 MAC lipsticks! (of which 3 are retired) It’s relatively small by comparison to my eye shadow stash (600+) or nail polish stash (400+) That said, I have amassed a lot of lip balms and butter butters.
Immediately after I did The Lipstick Tag, I thought – hey, why isn’t there an Eye Shadow Tag? I’m not really a lipstick girl, but I love me some eye shadows! I’ve seen a Perfect Palette Tag on YouTube but I’m not really a palette gal either, so I decided to make some modifications to The Lipstick Tag and came up with The Eye Shadow Tag! 😀
Here’s the motherlode. I’ve mentioned many times that I have a lot of eye shadows – over 600 – it is the most abundant makeup category that I own. I just love eye shadows and it’s the area of my face that I spend the most time applying makeup. I’ll keep this introduction brief and just let the pictures do the talking.
It took me over 2 hours just to sort and photograph the whole eye shadow collection and probably another 4 to edit everything. Usual disclaimer: this isn’t meant to show off. It was actually quite a beneficial exercise for me to display all my eye shadows visually. Warning: photo heavy post! (50 images)
I picked this up while Revlon was clearing out the ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel and replacing them with the ColorStay Gel Envy version. I have yet to try the Gel Envy but the bottles look nearly identical and I suspect the “new” polishes aren’t really all that different.

Bare Bones #300 is a slightly yellow / green (khaki?) tinged tan cream shade. It’s a bit ugly in the bottle but what drew me was that it was an unusual but still neutral (read: work appropriate) shade. For $3, I thought why not.
In keeping with the Easter and Spring theme, I thought I’d showcase 5 pastel nail polishes from my stash:

Thumb to pinky: Essie Pink-a-Boo, Revlon Apricot Pastry, Illamasqua Milf, Mary Kay Blue Lotus, Essence A Lovely Secret.
