Blog Tour Award

As instructed by StyledWithJoy, I’m to post this today, I’m complying because I don’t want to get scolded! 😛

Rules:
• Pass the tour on up to four other bloggers.
• Give your nominees the rules and a specific Monday to post (please, post your story on Monday June 1st or let your followers know when you post).
• Answer four questions about your creative process which lets other bloggers and visitors know what inspires you to do what you do.

1. How does my work differ from others in my genre?
My blog is mainly focused on my yearlong challenge of not buying more makeup so I approach the subject differently than my peers, in that I’m not as focused on new collection launches or shopping hauls. Another difference is that I do not post photos of my face for privacy reasons, so it does pose challenges when it comes to reviewing beauty products.  But I view it as an opportunity for me to better describe products based on factual, objective attributes – as well, it allows me to dabble in some product photography and illustrations / graphics.  Lastly, I also try to approach the subject with a sense of humour! 😀

2. How does my writing/creative process work?
Sometimes I’m just inspired to write and I will just hammer out a post quickly as the flow of thoughts is poured out of my brain.  Other days, words don’t flow as easily so I will default to one of the ideas I have previously brainstormed and noted down in a Word doc.  I often think of ideas when I’m actually doing my makeup in mornings, or cleaning / prepping my face in the evenings – those are both relaxing “me” times when I can be alone with my thoughts.  I’ve mentioned this before, but I maintain an Excel calendar where I plan my upcoming posts – this helps me to be organized in terms of prepping the items I want to photograph, or doing research to support the subject I’ll be writing about.

3. Why do I write or create what I do?
I do this blog as a hobby for me to fill time when I would otherwise be watching YouTube videos to fuel wish lists for my makeup purchases, or actually going out and shopping.  The process of examining my makeup stash has helped me realise how much I really do have, and what I like and not like in my collection.  This blog will mark a significant turning point in my “makeup journey” – from starting to learn about makeup, to practicing applying makeup, to collecting makeup, now to sharing my experiences with wider circle of people than just my immediate friends. I feel a sense of accomplishment in the blog I’ve created so far!

4. What I’m working on at the moment?
I’m quite behind in my stash photos – I’m planning on a blush stash, lipstick stash, eyeliner stash, foundation stash… that involves me lugging out ALL my makeup and taking pictures of everything.  It’s both a daunting yet a super fun exercise! ❤ I also want to do some brand focus series, especially on less talked about brands like Anna Sui or Yves Rocher.

4 Nominees:
• Dominique of Style Domination
Sarah Hearts Beauty
• Crystal of nerdylibrariangirl
• Sandy of Lippie Obsession

General question: is there anything you’d me to cover on my blog?

  1. I wondered why I’ve never seen your face before 🙂 That makes sense and I totally respect your choice. I can only imagine the challenge to review products though!!!
