Love is…

Does anyone remember the comic strip called “Love Is…“?  I remember them mainly because my parents had a bunch of prints of them and I always thought they were so cute, yet a little naughty.  I mean, they’re 2 butt-ass naked characters and it was acceptable? 😉

Love Is… was born out of the 1960s, unsurprisingly in the time of the hippie movement – a lot of the images have that cheesy kitschy nostalgia about them.  So in honour of Valentine’s Day, here are some of my favourite “Love Is…” comics.

Blogmas Day 8: DIY Stardust jewellery

Today’s Blogmas post is a collaboration topic – we’ll all be posting DIY projects.  My DIY will be a version of the Swarovski Stardust jewellery:

You’ve probably seen these being advertised by Miranda Kerr. They’re beautiful but the retail price for the Stardust necklace is $99 and the bracelet is $59 😮 I’ll show you how to make your own for a fraction of that price!

One month till Christmas!

Tick tock, it’s officially only one month till Christmas. 30 more days to finish (or start?) shopping.  I’m pleased to say that I’ve actually started my Christmas shopping!  I went to William-Sonoma when they had a 20% off Friends & Family event and bought a few things, one of which was this:
Williams-Sonoma Salty Nut Mix
The rest I can’t say because some people read this blog. 😉

I also mailed out my first Christmas card earlier this week – I don’t have many to mail out, thank goodness.  I have an idea about what I’m getting for pretty much everyone on my list – so it’ll just be a matter of buying the items.

And a bit off topic, but look what I just saw:

The long awaited Spend Your Points Event at Shoppers Drug Mart! Granted, it’s not the Super Spend Your Points Event but it’s better than nothing.  On Saturday only, 95,000 Optimum Points will be worth $200 instead of $170, and 50,000 points is worth $100 instead of $85. I’ll be redeeming for $200 worth of beauty products on Saturday. 😛

What about you, have you started to shop?  I guess with Black Friday coming up, it’ll be the official start of Christmas shopping frenzy. 😀

Michaels haul

Now for something entirely different!  I mentioned in my intro post to this blog that I dabble in crafts – mainly knitting and some jewellery making.  So I was pretty stoked when a new Michaels store opened up in downtown Toronto!  I finally had a chance to visit this past weekend and of course, I can never walk out of a Michaels store empty-handed:

In my defense all the beads were 50% off! 😉

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Yes, it’s already Thanksgiving in Canada.  We have it early compared to the US (second Sunday in October vs fourth Sunday in November).  People always ask me why, and I was told that it had to do with our harvest being earlier.  But now to my adult mind, I feel it’s not really true since our harvest is pretty much the same as Americans.  Turns out Canadians have been celebrating Thanksgiving longer than Americans – it goes back to 1578 in Newfoundland.  There are differences and similarities on how Canadians and Americans celebrate Thanksgivings:

East Coast Canadian trip

As you know last week I was away on a trip to the East Coast of Canada, for a good friend’s wedding.  The wedding itself was in Labrador, but we took the opportunity to travel to Newfoundland prior to the wedding day.  Here’s a map to help orient you, Newfoundland is the most eastern province of Canada and is about 2 hrs and 30 mins by flight from Toronto (A):

We spent 4 days in Newfoundland (B) and then 2 days in Labrador (C) for the wedding, in quite a remote place.  Today I’ll share photos from the 4 days we spent in parts of Newfoundland.

The Excellent Canadian Road Trip

Helloooooo! I’m back from our little road trip across our province! Firstly, THANK YOU for the birthday wishes here and on Instagram! I really appreciate it! 😀 I spent my birthday hiking through a Unesco World Biosphere Reserve, so it wasn’t a bad way to spend the day. 😉
