NEW Tag: The No Buy / Lo Buy Tag!

NoBuyLoBuytag
The idea to create this Tag came out of a discussion with StyledWithJoy in the comments section of one of my posts a couple of weeks ago.  We’re both on a No Buy for 2015, and we decided we needed a place to commiserate.  If you’re on a No Buy or a Lo Buy, please join us in answering these co-authored tag questions – it’s cathartic!

1. When did you start your No Buy / Lo Buy? How long is your No Buy / Lo Buy going to last?
2. Why did you decide to go on a No Buy / Lo Buy?
3. Have you ever attempted a No Buy / Lo Buy before? If so, how did it go?
4. What do you hope to achieve with your No Buy / Lo Buy?
5. What product(s) have you hit pan on since starting the Makeup No Buy?
6. Do you have more empties because of it? What product do you miss the most?
7. Do you think you can survive the ban from makeup?
8. What is the one product you envy right now but can’t get? For eyes? For lips? And for face?
9. Have you cheated and bought something already?
10. After your No Buy / Lo Buy, are you planning a big haul? What are you going to buy?

My answers:
1. When did you start your No Buy / Lo Buy? How long is your No Buy / Lo Buy going to last?
Officially I started it on January 1, 2015. But I had to “restart” it on January 19th due to Targetgate®.

2. Why did you decide to go on a No Buy / Lo Buy?
I devoted a whole entry on this topic but it boils down to this: I have. so. much. makeup. You’ve seen my stash, right? At the tail end of 2014, I also came to the realization that I really like the majority of my collection and I didn’t need to be on the quest for the next best thing.  I sometimes compare makeup to drugs: I’m always chasing that high, but the next high is never as good as the first high. (Don’t do drugs, kids. Makeup. Not even once!)

3. Have you ever attempted a No Buy / Lo Buy before? If so, how did it go?
Yes, last year I went for a No Buy starting in January and I lasted 2 months. Then in March I hit up the Illamasqua counter at the Bay to check out the Spring launches, and it went downhill from there…

4. What do you hope to achieve with your No Buy / Lo Buy?
Use up and enjoy what I have. What good it is to have makeup if they go bad before I get to use them up? I also wanted to channel the money that would otherwise be spent on makeup into doing other stuff (like my other hobbies such as jewellery making or knitting).

5. What product(s) have you hit pan on since starting the Makeup No Buy?
I haven’t hit pan on anything yet, sadly.

6. Do you have more empties because of it? What product do you miss the most?
I’m not sure if I have MORE empties, but I am surprised that I’ve seemed to be finishing up quite a few products in January and February.  I’m not sure if it was due to the No Buy or just a coincidence in timing.  I also created PUFU, which stands for “Project Use it the F*%@ Up!”, in which I’m actively trying to use up a couple of products, you can read about it here and here.

7. Do you think you can survive the ban from makeup?
*sigh* It was a tough go in February when the weather was terrible and it seemed like winter would never end. I needed some retail therapy to get me through the dreary time… but I somehow managed (I think this blog helped!) I’m already bracing myself for the upcoming Sephora VIB / Friends & Family sale in April. My friends are asking me to pick up stuff for them with my 20% off, which I’m excited about, but I just hope I’m not tempted to pull a “one for you, one for me”…

8. What is the one product you envy right now but can’t get? For eyes? For lips? And for face?
I really want to get a few concealers (Nars, Cle de Peau, Armani) – I partly blame Bree, but I’ve had these items on my wish list for a while now. For lips, I’ve been curious about the Nars Audacious lipsticks ever since they launched last year.  For eyes, I’ve been wanting to try the MakeupGeek eye shadows, since everyone raves about them.

9. Have you cheated and bought something already?
Yup, see Targetgate® and my 28 Days update.

10. After your No Buy / Lo Buy, are you planning a big haul? What are you going to buy?
Hells yes. Well, maybe not a BIG haul – I’m not going to go crazy and buy a year’s worth of makeup and negate the whole purpose of the No Buy. I’m probably going to buy those concealers I mentioned and maybe a special spendy eye shadow, like Addiction by Kose in Flash Back 030 ME, which has been on my wish list for eons, but $40 for a single eye shadow – ouch.  I also have this irrational lemming for the Burberry Eye Shadow in Pale Barley, even though I already own and love MAC’s Patina (they’re supposed to be quite similar).  I have several Burberry eye shadows and they’re lovely, but I’m not sure if it warrants seeking out Pale Barley now that Holts doesn’t carry Burberry cosmetics anymore.

Whew, that was cathartic – please check out StyledWithJoy’s post for her answers!

    1. Phew, I’m glad you’ve stopped on your concealer purchasing rampage, it’s been very trying on my willpower, you know! lol… I’m such a sheep sometimes. But honestly, that last combo you have with the Armani + Nars = magical no dark circle potion!
