Avon Calling – June 2016

I’ve fallen into the trap of ordering Avon again. They’ve got the cycle down pat: when I receive my items, they always include the latest Avon catalogue – and of course, I always flip through the catalogues – who doesn’t like to look through a mini magazine of makeup? Here are my recent orders:

I ordered these in May and received them when I returned from my trip.

Ideal Luminous Blush in Earthen Rose, and Heavenly Pink – $5.99 each
avon_may2016_3
These are ripe for a depotting! Soooo much wasted packaging on these.  These are well reviewed and you know that I’m a sucker for blushes.

Eyeshadow Primer – $3.99
Extra lasting eyeshadow Ink in Totally Taupe, Forever Bronze $4.99 each

The primer has good reviews online, and if I end up disliking it, I will simply use this as my primer for swatching.  The Eyeshadow Inks are also well reviewed – I hope they last on my lids. These, along with all of the makeup items, are made in China.

Elements Skin Revitalize 2-in-1 Brightening Eye Roller – $9.99

This thing vibrates! 😉 I’ve been on the hunt for a replacement for the discontinued Mary Kay eye roller.

Perfumed liquid deodorant – $2.89
avon_may2016_7
It’s an aluminum-free option and has good reviews online – seems a bit messy to use though, but hey, for $3 I’ll give it a whirl.

Mega Effects mascara – $7.99
SuperShock Brights Mascara in Violet Shock – $5.99
avon_may2016_8
I got the Mega Effects mascara mainly out of curiosity! This configuration of the bristles look like a medieval torture device – have you SEEN this thing? Behold:

😮  The other mascara I got to try out a coloured mascara – it seems to be a trend right now. I nearly got the Royal Shock which is a bright blue but I think I’d get more use out of the purple one, which is more subtle.

Anew Power Serum – $12.99
avon_may2016_6
There was an offer in the catalogue to buy this serum at a greatly reduced price (the regular price of this is $40) if I spent over $10 in makeup. I did some online research and it’s decently reviewed by Paula’s Choice.

I only buy Avon items on sale, so there’s that. 😛 I told the Avon girl that I’m not looking at the new catalogue, in hopes I’ll break the cycle!
Are you an Avon fan? Have you tried any of these items?

  1. That mega effects mascara looks insane…I wouldn’t even know where to start with it haha
It’s been awhile since I ordered through Avon, but the best product that I swear by is there eye makeup remover. It’s so good and removes everything completely!

    1. That mascara IS insane! I haven’t used it yet. I feel like I need to ease myself into it 😆
Oh is that makeup remover the creamy one? I remember using that AGES ago and it was pretty good!

  2. I’ve forever been curious about that mascara! It does look like a torture device I agree – and so does a vibrating eye roller! That taupey eyeshadow ink looks really pretty – please show me a swatch when you come to use it!
I’ve not bought anything from Avon in years, I think the last time I did was when the Supershock gel pencil liner launched and everyone was raving about it!

    1. I’ve heard great things about that mascara aside from the crazy configuration. I’ll have to see if my eye shape works with it.
I will definitely do swatches. I’m SERIOUSLY contemplating shutting myself in for 2 whole days to do photos and swatches… the backlog is stressing me out right now!
Oh I have the Supershock gel liner pencil too – so much hype around it – and I don’t like it. It’s WAY too slippery / slide-y and migrates all over. It’s really smooth and easy to apply and blend… I will give it that much.

  3. Those eyeshadow inks look beeeeautiful. Good colour choices!
The liquid deodorant…how interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen liquid deodorant before! At first, I thought it was perfume.
You’ll have to do a review on that mascara! The brush is fascinating, lol.
Where do you even go to order Avon stuff? Or I guess since you get the newest catalogue with every order, the better question is, how did you first start ordering from Avon? I haven’t seen an Avon catalogue in forever!

    1. It’s a girl at work. Her mom sells it. I found out over Christmas through random conversation (I think I complimented her on her nail polish and she told me it was Avon – one thing led to another). So she brought in a catalogue the next day and the rest is history…It’s still all old school style – word of mouth!
I’ve seen liquid deodorants, mainly with all natural type of formulations. I might put it on a cotton pad to apply it (hey! maybe those maxi pad style ones I got from TheFaceShop! 😛 )

      1. Ahh, that would do it. A couple of years ago, my dad brought an Avon catalogue home from work because one of his coworkers sold Avon products as a side gig. I didn’t end up getting anything and I’ve regretted it since, lol!
Hah, those are some fancy pads you would be using on your pits! 😉

  4. At an old job, a coworker sold Avon. I was always buying stuff from her. And I had a friend who used to sell it and I’d order from her too. Been ages since I’ve used Avon though. Need to give them
    A try again.

    1. I really like the Avon stuff that I’ve tried so far, and they’re always on sale, I don’t even mind if occasionally I get something not stellar. Hope you find a new source for Avon again!

  5. I love looking through the Avon magazines too, but I’ve never never ordered from them. I remember my grandmother being a Mary Kay fanatic though 🙂 Last week someone passed me buy and I could tell they were wearing a Mary Kay lotion she used to wear just by the scent! It made me smile 🙂 Anyways, rant done, I didn’t realize how affordable Avon was!

    1. That’s a cute story – scent is the memory trigger! One of my friend sells Mary Kay and I like their products too – they’re pricier but they’re generally great quality. Avon is definitely much cheaper – I don’t dabble too much into their skincare typically, I mostly bought their nail polishes before.

  6. The mascara looks psychotic lol 😀 I also watch out for ‘made in China’ products. I am okay with made in China for low price products that are not for the lips. E.g. Sleek = made in China is okay. Anastasia Beverly Hills = made in China is NOT okay.

    1. Yesss! I feel the same thing about the made in China. I do not like using lip products made in China but I’m ok with other parts that I won’t ingest. 😛
And yes, I hear you on the money grabbing brands that charge high prices but their costs are so low – do they think we’re stupid?
Have you seen this post I did on where things are made:

      Where was it made?

  7. I can imagine the looks you’d get if you were to use that mascara in public. Haha! The only time I ever used an Avon product was when my mom bought their Skin So Soft oil for use as insect repellent. One of my cousins used their Sweet Honesty fragrance, which I thought smelled ah-mazing.

    1. Oh yes, the Skin So Soft stuff as insect repellent! I never tried that but it would sure beat the stinky bug sprays!
Haha, I’m just going to focus on NOT poking my eye out with that mascara… fingers crossed.

    1. I think I’ll start up with Avon come fall / holiday time – they have some good stuff then too, not to mention the sales!
And I’m debating if I should open the Avon mascara first or the new Revlon ones… I’m due to a new mascara this week.

  8. Between this post and the nail polish post that you linked for me with the CG Nail Slicks, I’ve transported back to my awkward pre-teen years! Lol I didn’t even realize that Avon was still around, its been years since I’ve seen one of their catalogs. I look forward to your reviews!

    1. Yup Avon’s still kicking. They’re still very much stuck in the past but they’re trying to keep on trend with some of their makeup. I really like their nail polishes from the Nailwear range.

  9. The Mega Effects mascara is kinda gimmicky but it works well. I wrote a review on it a few years ago when it first came out and I remember laughing because the mascara came with a little fold out of instructions on how to use the product. That was first for me! 🙂

  10. That mascara “wand” looks like an instrument of torture! Hehehe. I haven’t ordered Avon in ages (not since they got rid of normal online ordering – now you must go through an Avon rep, I believe?). I kind of want more nail polish, but eh. I prefer less hassle. Their products are always so hit/miss for me. I’ve never liked their eyeshadows or most lip products, though I loved their nail polish, Glosswear lipglosses, and there was one sheerish lippie that I used forever and adored!

    1. Oh I didn’t know they stopped the online ordering. Hmm I suppose that isn’t in keeping with their business model of face to face consultation and ahem, sales pressure. I just think they’re missing a big chunk of the segment who are online shoppers… but maybe that’s not their demographic anyway. Oh I remember I liked a Glosswear lip gloss from them, it smelled like coconut! It went bad super fast though.
