July 2016 Low-Buy Accountability

July was supposed to be the start of my 3 month “No-Buy” since I had overspent in May / June. But wouldn’t you know it, my birthday happened to be in July and I rained birthday gifts down upon myself! 😀

It happened. And it was magnificent. 😀  I did also place an order from the Body Shop for some skincare because for once, I’m actually in need of some items!

A little while ago I went into the Body Shop store for a free skin analysis and they recommended a few items for me to try. I walked away with a shopping list and a sample of Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Sleeping Cream and the corresponding Facial Oil.

I remember Adryana liking the Sleeping Cream, so I’m excited to try it.

Then there was a 40% off sale online so I took the plunge:

I got:

Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask
Finally succumbed to the sleeping mask rage. Let’s just call it for what it is – a more intensive night cream. I will try this for once or twice a week to start off with.

Vitamin E Aqua Boost Essence
Not to be confused with the Aqua Boost Sorbet, which I’ve used and disliked (dried out my skin). I plan to try this essence with those Muji DIY sheet masks I got.

Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream
I’m out of night creams and going through samples. This has great reviews and I’ve enjoyed most Vitamin E products.

I chose a sample of the Vitamin E Day Cream as my free sample.

I managed to stay away from Winners / Marshalls as much as possible last month even though I was faced with this:

😮 But this is the only item I bought from Winners:

COLAB Volume Extreme Dry Shampoo travel pack trio in Rio, Paris, and London. This is my favourite dry shampoo that I take for travelling.

I randomly picked up the CoverGirl Plumpify blastPro Mascara because it was on sale, and this was a recommendation from Dal of little beauty loves.  Since I’m no longer counting mascaras toward my makeup Low Buy, this isn’t a cheat!

Lastly, here’s a fun little makeup related, but not actual makeup item  – Paperchase makeup stickers!

I know, I’m a grown adult and I still love stickers! Would it be too meta to stick them onto my makeup products? 😛

August and September are going to be really tough. No excuses. No loopholes. Well, unless there’s an Optimum Redemption Event. 😉

  1. Oooooh, the nail poishes look very tempting. I don’t think I could have resisted! 😀
I love stickers too. Cute ones. These Paperchase stickers look fab! There’s a Paperchase store near my workplace and I’ll check if they have those make-up stickers.

    1. I love going by the Paperchase shop! I also bought a notebook there recently. It’s quite plain though – for work.
It was very VERY tempting to check out the nail polishes but I didn’t even stop, just took that picture and ran away. If I’d looked, I know I would have bought something!

    1. Oh he’s so sweet! What a good man – he’s definitely a keeper. I highly doubt my SO would ever consider buying stickers to put on my gifts. As it is, he barely wraps them in tissue paper and then tosses them into a gift bag! 😛 He tries!

  2. Omgawd. Look at all them pretties…and on the first month of your 3-month no-buy too! Hehe.
I’m interested in knowing what you think about the Shu palette! Not that I’ll be getting it or anything, but man, is that thing beautiful to look at…it would be interesting to find out whether its performance matches its looks! 😉

    1. I haven’t cracked open the Shu palette yet even though I did take pictures of it already so it’s READY to go. I might play around on the weekend!

  3. Thank you for taging me into your post! 😄 It was such a nice surprise! 💕🌼 I saw you got the sleeping cream tester and the sleeping mask. They are both so good! I’m curious what you think about them. Which one you prefer in the end. 😊

    1. I always like to mention where I get my influences from, it’s only fair! 🙂 Thanks so much for taking the time to explain the difference of the two. Now I get to try both! 🙂 I will let you know for sure.

  4. Awww girl I feel you. My no-buy last month was hard but I made it though. My only “cheat” was my boyfriend bought me some makeup brushes last weekend. But HE was paying for them, not me. Loophole! I’ve already started my birthday haulage and I’m planning on doing a bit of damage (thanks to gift cards & rewards points so it won’t be too bad a dent in my wallet). I have a feeling September will be another no-buy month. 😂

    1. Aw that’s a good loophole. My boyfriend would never in a million years buy me makeup! He knows I have too much already. He gets so happy when I do the makeup purges!
I save my gift cards up for my birthday too, it’s like a gift that keeps on giving! 🙂 I can’t wait to see what your damage haulage will be! 😀

    1. I’m looking forward to tryng that mascara! It’ll be my next one to open – I didn’t even know it’s waterproof? I find in general that CoverGirl mascaras don’t smudge on me. 🙂

    1. The smell is soft like shea, isn’t it? I just smelled it at the store so I will have to see how it is on my face right next to my nose! 👃🏻
And I love stickers, I still have my collection from when I was younger…

  5. Don’t feel guilty, it was your birthday and you deserve to treat yourself! What a fun haul, I loved the picture of those stickers you posted on Instagram and I can’t wait to hear how you get on with all of the items from The Body Shop! 😀

  6. Ahh the stickers are adorable! Taking me back to being a kid with my sticker collection that I housed in a 3-ring binder and the trades I used to make with friends. The good old days.

I was not a fan of that mascara but I’ve never found a CG mascara that I’ve liked.
The humongo brush drew me in but it smudged on me and gave my lashes that spidery look. Look forward to hearing how it worked for you!

    1. I had an album full of stickers too. And yes trading with friends were so fun – fuzzy ones and scratch n’ sniff ones were premium! 😛
I guess we have opposite preference when it comes to mascaras – I’m a fan of CoverGirl mascaras. Fingers crossed on this one!

  7. I purchased that Covergirl mascara a while back but just opened it this weekend. I’ve only used it once so far and I’m not impressed but I’m going to reserve final judgement until I’ve tried it a few more times. How did you resist those nail polishes?

    1. It was very tempting with those nail polish, let me tell you! But I’ve got bins and bins of nail polishes that I haven’t even worn yet. I really need to go through those before I get more. :/
I’ll be opening that CoverGirl mascara this week – fingers crossed!

  8. I *adore* The Body Shop, but the Oils of Life range is one that I haven’t gotten much of a chance to try yet since I usually only buy TBS products on sale, and they haven’t been including the new products in their sales :(. I’d love to hear what you think of them!

      1. SO, my WordPress.com account ran out of free photo storage and I wasn’t sure how to best fix it (ideally for free), so I just stopped posting. It didn’t help that it happened about a month before my university graduation! And then this summer I’ve been traveling, so I kind of forgot about this corner of the internet for a while. BUT, I’ve been good! One graduation, a successful apartment search, and two vacations later, I’m about to start my new job in a few weeks. Don’t be surprised if you see me going back and commenting on all of your posts that I’ve missed!

        1. Hmm you must have uploaded all your images full size? It’s time consuming but you may need to go back and resize all of your images. OR another option is to open a free photo hosting service like photo bucket and link the images to your blog if you post new images.
Glad to hear you’re out there enjoying life though – traveling and being off the internet is a GOOD thing! Congrats on your new job! Looking forward to seeing you back on WordPress! 🙂

  9. The packaging on that Drops Of Youth Sleeping Mask is so aesthetically pleasing! I don’t know why, but sleeping masks sound so dang appealing! You’re right, it’s moisturizer, but it sounds so special when they call it a sleeping mask! In any case, I’m interested to hear what you think of the Body Shop one.
I’ve been hard core resisting the urge to take up using copious amounts of stickers in my planner (I love my planner. I am a child.). So far I’ve resisted on the basis of keeping things uncluttered but stickers are fun! And those makeup stickers are ADORABLE!

    1. I’ll be opening up that Body Shop Sleeping mask soon! Just finishing a gwp night cream right now.
In Japan, planners are SO fancy. They come with stickers! And the stickers are amazingly cute. I’d buy the planners for the stickers! They sell refills / additional stickers too. Ahhh.

      1. I can only imagine how divine the Japanese planner scene must be. It must be like a whole new world!
I “may” have just arrived back home from a trip to Michaels. Planner stickers “may” have been purchased. Possibly. O_O
