Can saliva cure acne?

A couple of weeks ago I posted a snippet from the book, “Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm?” As mentioned in that post, the authors are behind the blog The Beauty Brains.

Today I’ll share another gem from the book for discussion here.  The question:

My grandmother always told me that putting saliva on my pimples before going to sleep was the best way to get rid of them.  Although a lot of people said it was an old wives’ tale, it always worked for me.  Is there any science to back this up or was I experiencing a placebo effect?

Ew, please don’t lick my face

Rain, rain, go away

I finally got myself a pair of proper rain boots, albeit not by Hunter, or the standard tall style. I have an aversion to wearing super heavy clunky boots – I’ve tried on Hunters and I feel like I’ve got cement blocks on my feet.  So I opted for something shorter (I mean, just how often am I wadding in knee-deep puddles in the city?) – they’re waterproof, so they get the job done. I haven’t owned rain boots since I was young:

Sonia Kashuk eye on neutral shimmer palette

Yet another Targetgate™ item up for review, the Sonia Kashuk eye on neutral shimmer 03 eye shadow palette ($20 Target).  I originally was on the hunt for the all matte version of this palette but since they were all sold out, I settled for the shimmer one.  The palette contains 12 individual shadows of 0.8g each for a total of 9.6g.  The shades range from a light champagne to a deep smokey charcoal.  The palette is aptly named as the neutral palette as it has a blend of warm and cool shades but overall, the palette is neutral.

Warning: do not use on lip area. (Click to enlarge for ingredient list)

The palette came completely shrink wrapped but for some reason there’s a smudge mark on the middle pan, top row.

Grading my friends’ skincare routines

I was scolding one of my friends via email last week after she confessed that she has recently been sleeping in her makeup. I know, right? Horrific.

Then the discussion turned into said friend (Let’s call her A) asking for me to provide her with a skincare regimen. I turned the table around and asked my friends to provide me with their current skincare routines so that I can critique and also provide recommendations based on their skin type. Without further ado, here are my friends’ current routines and my recommendations.*

Trash Stash aka Empties: March 2015

I’m officially renaming my Empties posts to Trash Stash. 😀  Once again, I’ve accumulated enough empty beauty products to post – I reckon this will be a monthly feature going forward.  I can no longer deny it – being on a No-Buy has definitely forced me to use up some of my stash!
