Trash Stash: May & June 2016

Happy July 4th to my American friends! Hope you’re enjoying the extra day off. We Canadians just came out of a long weekend and are cursing you guys right now… 😆

Since I missed May’s Trash Stash, this is a combined empties post for both months. Hold onto your hats!
trash201606_2
I finished some long-time favourites and items that have been with me for years.

I’m going to limit my commentary to 1 to 2 sentences max per item, so that you’re not forced to spend an hour reading this post (plus it saves me from typing… but mostly, saving you. 😛 )

Skincare:

trash201606_6
Tony Moly Pocket Bunny Moist Mist – $14 for 60ml
This was a disappointing product both in terms of the content and the bottle – sadly I will not be keeping the cute bottle to refill because the spray nozzle sucks. I did a review on it here.
Stash worthiness: 5/10     Repurchase: No

Yves Rocher 3 Detoxifying Teas Micellar Cleansing Water – $19 for 200ml
This is still my HG even with so many micellar water challengers on the market.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Bourjois Express Eye-Makeup Remover – $20 for 200ml
This almost eclipsed my previous HG, Biotherm Biocils, but it leaves just a tiny bit of a film on my skin. Also, I’m also holding a grudge because the little ball on the cap top broke clean off after about a month of use, so I had no leverage to open the flip top cap!
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201606_10
Kibio Pureness Radiance Mask – $32 for 50ml
This is a great mask that helps to control oil. Unfortunately, it is discontinued but I have one more unopened jar.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: No (discontinued)

Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Contour Cream – $68 for 15ml
I’ve been using this specific jar since 2013 – mainly only during the winter months (mentioned here as a “Love”). I love this for deep hydration that doesn’t cause milia!
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201606_8
Kibio Ki-Crème – $37 for 50ml
Provides great hydration due to shea butter content but it does leave a bit of a shiny look to the skin so I only use this at night. I have another unopened tube.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: No (discontinued)

Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum (now rebranded as MicroTargeting Spot Corrector) – $143 for 30ml
I’ve been angrily using this up – pumping 5 pumps of product when only 3 would probably suffice. Useless and overpriced – (mentioned here as a “Loathe”)
Stash worthiness: 2/10     Repurchase: No

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral SPF50 – $33 for 50ml
I really liked this when I first started using it but it increasingly started to react with my moisturizers and foundations by balling up in little bits on my skin. Also, I found the tint colour to be too dark and orange – I showed a swatch of this here.
Stash worthiness: 6/10     Repurchase: No
trash201606_9
Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum – $32 USD for 30ml
This is so ooold. I can’t seem to tolerate the retinol concentration in this serum as my skin always reacts when I try to use it. Time to toss.
Stash worthiness: 6/10     Repurchase: No

NeoStrata Hydra-Infusion 24 Hr Hydrating Serum – $39 for 30ml
Still my favourite serum for daytime usage. It just works underneath everything and plumps up my skin for the day – ingredite details and review here.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Benzagel Spot On 2.5% – $12 for 15ml
Effective and did not irritate my skin as long as I don’t over-apply.  Most Benzoyl Peroxide products are 5% which are too harsh for me, and I’ve not been able to find this 2.5% anywhere lately! I’m going to try out the Oxy one that I found at Dollarama next.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201606_12
C.O. Bigelow Supreme 2X Lip Shine in Spearmint – $8 for 14g
My HG nighttime lip balm. This particular flavour is my second favourite after the Vanillamint version, but they all work the same – review here.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Shadow Primer – $21 USD for 15.3g
One of my top 3 eye primers, except I can’t get it easily. I bought this one ages ago at a Sephora Black Friday sale.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Boscia Vanilla Blotting Linens – $13 for 100 sheets
The vanilla flavour isn’t available anymore but it kind of doesn’t matter what they smell like. These work well except I wish the size was larger – some days I need more than one sheet to deshine my face.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201606_4
Up&Up Exfoliating Rounds – $2.69 for 45 pcs
I bought a whole whack of these when Target was closing shop. I love how these can get rid of flaky skin without being too harsh on my skin. Even though it’s now difficult to get these, the Joe Fresh ones are the same.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

MUJI Cut Cotton Ecru – $3 for 140 pcs
I probably should have gotten the white version instead of the ecru one. I did a thorough review of this for my Project Focus, go check it out.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: No

Haircare:

trash201606_5
Nexxus Therappe Luxurious Moisturizing Shampoo – $14 for 400ml
I received this for free from a friend and it was ok. Smelled fine and didn’t weigh down my hair but I wouldn’t seek it out.
Stash worthiness: 6/10     Repurchase: No

Curl Keeper Original – $17.50 for 240ml
Still the best for keeping my wavy hair frizz-free and defined. I’ll keep buying this unless I find a cheaper alternative!
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

L’Oreal Studio Line Silk & Gloss Curling Spritz – $3 for 200ml
I’ve got 3 more bottles of this discontinued product in my stash – it’s great for creating piece-y waves.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: No (discontinued)

Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak – $36 for 235ml
This specific jar has been going strong for 2 years! I use this about once a week as a treatment for my ends – I love that it doesn’t weigh down my hair – I talk about it more in this post on my Winter Hair Rescue products.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Body care:

trash201606_3
Body Shop Brazil Nut Beautifying Oil – $14 for 100ml
This smells like roasted caramel nuts and feels very silky. I only use this on my body and it absorbs quickly, similar to a dry oil.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Vaseline Intensive Care Extra Strength Unfragranced – $10 for 325ml
I found this to be runny and didn’t absorb well – left my skin a bit tacky to the touch. Also wasn’t a fan of the unfragranced version – just because there’s no fragrance added, it doesn’t mean it’s unscented – it smelled like raw dough.
Stash worthiness: 3/10     Repurchase: No

Biotherm Beurre Corporel (Intensive Anti-dryness Body Butter) – $37 for 200ml
I’d forgotten how much I love this particular body butter from Biotherm – it smells like oranges and feels so light but hydrating, and leaves my skin soft and silky. I just wish it wasn’t so pricey!
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201606_7
Trind Nail Balsam – $19.95 for 9ml
This was in my last favourites and I’ve already repurchased it! I only wish it was less expensive.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Kiehl’s Richly Hydrating Hand Cream in Coriander – $29 for 75ml
Also in my last favourites. I got this for the scent (I loooove the Kiehl’s Coriander perfume oil) but the formula of this hand cream impressed me so much! It’s very hydrating but absorbs quickly and truly protects my hands – I’m hooked and will definitely repurchase (I believe this formula is only released at holiday season so I shall be sure to stalk the counters around then).
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Bioderma Cicabio Creme – $15.95 for 40ml
I call this my “magic cream” now. It just soothes every skin issue I have – it reduces itching, keeps the area hydrated and helps to heal. I’ll never be without it – already repurchased. Review of this here.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Makeup:

trash201606_11
MAC Studio Sculpt Defining Powder in Light Plus – $37 for 10g
I really liked this powder – my full review is here. The compact case is going in my Back to MAC pile.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

Yves Rocher Second Skin Effect Foundation in Beige 300 – $25 for 30ml
I love this foundation but there’s no point talking about it since it’s long discontinued. This shade is too dark for me but I used it as a mixer.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: No (discontinued)

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Buff – $12
It’s my favourite drugstore highlighting pen – this is my 2nd tube. Just be aware that on its own it’s likely not enough coverage to act as a concealer.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes
trash201606_14
Rimmel Supercurler 24HR Volume & Curl Mascara – $7.99
Really disappointing product! Its promise of no eyelash curler required is completely false – even using an eyelash curler, it doesn’t hold a curl. It also doesn’t produce much volume despite its name.
Stash worthiness: 2/10     Repurchase: No
trash201606_20
Maybelline Lash Sensation Mascara
This mascara, on the other hand, is awesome! I was pleasantly surprised because I don’t normally get on with Maybelline mascara but this one delivered on volume, length and curl. My main issue with this is that it does smudge on my lower lash line area.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

Wet n Wild Mega Protein mascara – $3
I bought this as part of my $20 Makeup Challenge and I didn’t like it – no length or volume at all. Too bad – it would have been nice to find a HG mascara for $3.
Stash worthiness: 2/10     Repurchase: No

trash201606_13
Cargo Lash Activator Night – $29
I did review on this, and it appears this product is now discontinued. I’m now testing out the Etude House Dr. Mascara lash serum to see how I like it.
Stash worthiness: 6/10     Repurchase: No

Etude House Dr Mascara Fixer Longlash Up Curl Fix – $9
Just LOOK that close-up shot of the wand and tube! 😡 I tried this out for a week and I had to set it aside – the fibres irritated the heck out of my eyes. This Longlash version is not for me, but I love the Volume Up version which doesn’t contain any fibres.
Stash worthiness: 4/10     Repurchase: No
trash201606_19
Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil in Seal Brown – $29
Natural looking brows that lasts all day. I’ll be repurchasing but in the shade Acorn next instead – now I’m focusing on finishing the brow:sword.
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Prestige Waterproof Eyeliner in EW04 Suede x 2 – $7
This used to be my HG lower lash liner mainly for the colour, but it wasn’t as long wearing as its replacement, the Make Up For Ever Aqua liner in 24 Light Taupe (which was recently discontinued in favour of the Aqua XL liner – grrrr). Both of these are being tossed because they’ve dried out and the leads are loose in the wood casing.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Sana Super Quick Matte Liquid Eyeliner in 02 Dark Brown – $15
I don’t find this particularly matte but I don’t have much of a preference either way. I do like this brown colour and it lasts quite well on my lash line, no smudging, just some fading. I can only find this online.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Samples / Travel Size:

trash201606_17

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara – this is a great mascara for volume, sometimes a bit clumpy and flaky.

Hourglass Film Noir mascara – I’m an idiot and had this in my drawer too long and the darn thing dried out even though it was never opened. This product is now discontinued so I’ll never know if it was awesome.

MUFE Aqua Eyes in 0L Matte Black – I don’t wear black liners enough to use this up and it’s dried out too.
trash201606_16
Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream – I love this stuff and have a full size jar of this, unopened.

Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase – I’ve had another sample of this before and I love it. Still unsure if I want to shell out $59 for the full size.

MAC Lightful C Marine-Bright Formula Cleanser – for some reason I got it in my head that this was a moisturizer sample. So imagine me applying this cleanser to my face like it was a face cream and wondering why it was lathering up rather than absorbing in. 😆 (it was nice as a face wash though)
trash201606_18
Neostrata Oil Free Moisture Infusion Lotion – I didn’t care for this – doesn’t really hydrate and felt sticky on my skin.

MAC Cleanse Off Oil – perpetual favourite but a pricey indulgence.

Shiseido The Skincare Extra Gentle Cleansing Foam (L) and Shiseido Benefiance Extra Creamy Cleansing Foam (R) – I used to get these 2 confused all the time and buy the wrong one. The Extra Gentle one is good but not great, the Extra Creamy one is awesome – it cleans well and doesn’t strip the skin. Of course, it’s also more expensive! 😛
trash201606_15
Consonant Organic Body Lotion – Good no-nonsense body lotion.

COLAB Volume Extreme Dry Shampoo in London – I love this stuff!

Neutrogena Rainbath shower gel – this once was full, then I used it up… garpy shumo zzZZZ…

o_O

I need a nap. You might too.

  1. Crikey, you’re making me fear tackling my three months of empties – really don’t know what to do with them the bag is massive! I was going to film them as there’s way too many even for 3 blog posts I think 😁
I’ve heard such good things about the Bourjois makeup remover, we can’t get it here for some reason! The fibres in Etude House look way too long! not suprised it irritated your eyes, can’t imagine it even looked great on did it?
Going to have to check out the dream lumi concealer, that sounds up my alley!

    1. The Etude House lash primer did look good – it made my lashes look longer. But it wasn’t worth the irritation!
What, that’s odd you can’t get that Bourjois remover there! And yes, the Maybelline Dream Lumi is awesome.
You have THREE months of empties? Oh good luck you – knowing your average monthly empties are already hefty enough… yes, better separate them into at least 3 posts LOL!

        1. You have a beauty ROOM! I have a beauty CORNER. LOL. MY SO is always shaking his head at the piles of stuff I have: one for empties, another for hauls, another for items waiting to be photographed. It’s a mess!
That’s a good idea to separate them into likes / dislikes rather, rather than by product categories!

          1. Technically it’s our spare room – but the cupboard in it has all my makeup/shoes in it, my wardrobe and dressing table is in there. And Ben doesn’t get a say in how it’s decorated, and it only gets slept in about 3 times a year – so basically yeah it’s a beauty room lol!
That’s what I thought people might skip past haircare because they’re not interested – but you always want to know what’s good or bad!

            Like

            1. Yeah our spare bedroom is half his, half mine. Although he’s taken over my desk which used to be my makeup station, now it’s for his gaming. We need a second spare bedroom so we each have a room on top of the main bedroom, lol!

  2. It’s interesting to hear you didn’t get on with Rimmel’s Supercurler mascara. I found it to be average but it has dried up a lot quicker than my other mascaras in the past. I’m planning to keep it to show in my next empties post then throw out.

    1. I tried it out for 2 weeks and I didn’t see the point of continuing to use such a horrible product! Also, what was really annoying was the wand size meant I had to be super careful about not getting getting product on my lid. I tend not to think twice about throwing mascaras out quickly if they don’t work for me… and on average I keep a mascara about 2 months max.

    1. I first got into Kiehl’s by trying their hair care and I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything I’ve gotten there. The mask is well worth the money as you only need a small amount. It smells really nice too!

      1. Oh really! I definitely need to try it out, I’ve seen a few products pop up that seem appealing so I will definitely need to look into it!

  3. I am just getting a sample of the MAC oil in an order – can’t wait to try it, now!

I have a sample of that YR micellar water you like, should dig it out and give it a go. For some reason I bought a full-sized different micellar water from them, in a pink bottle.

I have never seen that black YR foundation bottle before! How old was it?

Too bad about the Etude House macara fixer – I am currently using that one and yeah, the fibers are quite annoying. I guess my eyes aren’t terribly sensitive, so I’m OK using it. It just annoys me that the fibers don’t go on evenly, so some lashes end up longer and some don’t. Can look weird if I don’t do enough coats to make it more even. It does work nicely otherwise, though. I just picked up the Volume Up version which I hope is much better.

So many empties – I don’t know how you do it! I’m still working through a neverending deluxe sample of moisturizer!! Aargh.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’ve tried all the micellar waters that YR offers and none are as good as the 3 teas one – I hope you’ll like the sample!
Hmmm that YR foundation is 3 years old! 😛 But it smelled fine and performed well! Um, I think I have one more in my stash unopened. 😳
I did find the Etude House mascara primer to provide good length but yes I found the fibres didn’t look even or line up. I love the volume up – hope you’ll like it!

      Like

  4. Holy moly, woman. Haha. My empties from April-June aren’t even a quarter of what you used up in the last two months! I blame it on my small face and body 😛
I’m in the market to try out a new drugstore mascara, and the Maybelline Lash Sensation looks promising.
I also want to try that Kiehl’s hand cream! Think I said that in the favourites post where you first talked about it…I always have a hard time convincing myself to splurge on hand creams, though :/
Have also been meaning to try the Dream Lumi Concealer but never got around to it. Would you use the Becca Corrector, a concealer, and THEN the Dream Lumi on top? Or do you not need the Becca corrector if you’re using the Dream Lumi concealer (or vice versa)?
Hmm, do you think it’s the fibres in all of the fibre mascaras that cause a reaction to your eyes?
The two Shiseido Cleansing Foams are the bomb! I agree that the Extra Creamy one is better, but wish The Skincare line was still around, just because it’s a less expensive but still great alternative!

    1. Hey did you just call my face and body BIG! 😛 I always knew I had a moon-face, thanks for reinforcing it! 😮
I wholehearted recommend that Maybelline mascara – all the raves I’ve read about it, it’s true. Although you need to watch out, it will smudge a bit under the eye area since that’s been your concern.
I looked up the Kiehl’s site for that formulation of hand cream but it appears they do not carry it regularly – so keep an eye out for it at Christmas time. They had a grapefruit and a lavender scent.
I’ve worn the Dream Lumi with and without the Becca underneath – when I look REALLY tired, I use ALL of the products: Becca, Nars, then Lumi! But thin layers so it’s not cakey. I’ve also worn just the Dream Lumi by itself on casual days.
Yeah it looks like Shiseido revamped their line-up recently? I think the Ikuki Gentle Cleanser is probably this one, renamed (it’s $38 vs the $45 for the Benefiance).
I’m not 100% sure it’s the fibres. It could also be the waterproof-ness. I’ve reacted badly to a few super waterproof mascaras before (not sure how to describe the sensation, except that they gave off a fume or something and my eyes would sting / feel fatigued). That’s why I tend to stay away from the waterproof formulas. I should really try to narrow down the culprit… I’m a bit apprehensive to test out the new Japanese ones I got!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. LOL! Clearly that is what I was trying to get at 😛
Eeek, the smudging was my one concern too after reading your post. Guess we shall see!
I will keep my eye out during Christmas for the coriander scent. In the meantime…grapefruit sounds awesome!
Hmm, good to know that using 3 products together in thin layers doesn’t look cakey. I need them layers! Dream Lumi DOES look like it would be good if you just want to brighten up the under eye area without doing the whole concealing routine.
Yep, I remember talking to an SA at the Shiseido counter and she said that the Ibuki line was replacing The Skincare line. I don’t like the Ibuki line nearly as much, though! So I keep using items in the Benefiance line even though I think we might not be the target demographic for it.
Yikes, fingers crossed that the Japanese ones won’t give you a bad reaction…that would be so upsetting (not to mention a bit painful).

  5. OMG… how do you ever finish any products O_o This is a LONG list of empties. lol

I totally agree with you on the Rimmel mascara. That was totally rubbish. Plus, it smeared when I used it. Straight to the trash after 3 uses.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’ve speculated in the past that perhaps I apply a lot of product on my skin when I use it. I mean, who really knows just how much face cream one is supposed to use per application? 😕
Yes, it smeared on me too – to add insult to injury. I lasted longer than you – I was going to write a review post devoted to that mascara but in the end decided to scrap it, but I did manage to use it for a couple of weeks in varying conditions. Bah, they got me good with their marketing, that Rimmel!

      Liked by 1 person

    1. You’re tempting me to buy the full size. I haven’t a clue what the ingredients are but all I know is that my skin feels SO soft and looks radiant the next morning whenever I use it.
Yes, very much looking forward to getting rid of my bag of trash!

  6. Oh I really need some Shiseido in my life!! The Benefiance WrinkleResist24 sounds so good I read your reviews post! The advanced super revitalizing cream could be really good for me in the winter! They are just so expensive, I’ll have to start saving now!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’ve been using those 2 Shiseido creams in the winter every season. They just never fail me. No flaky skin in sight and they last SO long. Do you save Optimum Points? Maybe redeem for those next time they have a redemption event!

  7. So many wonderful products an I can’t believe you’ve managed to use so much in two months time. Brilliant! As expected, Maybelline lash sensational is the best mascara on the high street range and TBS beautifying oil sounds good as I love to use dry oil onto the body

    Liked by 1 person

    1. It helps when I try not to have more than one of each category of products open at the same time – so only ONE face wash at a time, not multiple. 😛 I was so impressed with the Maybelline Lash Sensational! Yes, definitely check out TBS oil – it’s multi purpose, so it’s good for hair, face and nails too.

      Liked by 1 person

  8. I still reach for the Maybelline LashSensation Mascara til now, I really like it. And I used to enjoy the Maybelline Dream-Lumi concealer when I first purchased them but it just didn’t work out after few uses. I love the Maybelline Fit Me concealer more. (I can’t believe you’ve finished all of these in a couple of months! That’s crazy..😱)

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The Maybelline Dream Lumi isn’t a concealer though – I wish Maybelline would remove that word from the product name. It’s more of a highlighting pen similar to YSL Touch Eclat.

      Liked by 1 person

  9. So glad to hear you liked the Maybelline Lash Sensational! I loved it and currently miss having it around! I’m currently going back and forth between using the Revlon Drama Eyes (I think it’s called? Too lazy to get up and check lol) and the Essence Get BIG Lashes… I like them but I think I liked the Maybelline Lash Sensational more…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m just about to open the Revlon ones! I’m looking forward to it. I’ve heard really good things about the Essence mascaras but I’m always iffy on their stuff because they don’t have safety seals…

  10. Wow this is a serious empties post! I thought mine was big but wow! I bow down to you. Haha!

I’m super intrigued by the Kiehl’s end treatment, might have to check that out for the winter months. Also I’m going to add that Body Shop Brazil Nut Oil to my shopping list, I don’t shop at the body shop too often but that sounds like something I need to try, if only for it’s scent!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I wholeheartedly recommend that Kiehl’s hair treatment – I’ve been using it for years. At first was balked at the thought of spending that much for hair product but it lasts such a long time, it’s worth it.
I haven’t been able to find the Brazil Nut oil at the Body Shop lately so it’s possible that it’s a seasonal scent. I hope you’re able to locate it!

  11. Man I cannot stand mascara with the fiber things. Who thought “i know what people want to put on their eyeball, tiny pokey hairs!”?
I seriously laughed at the image if angrily using up the shiseido toner lol.
